It felt like the aftermath of the storm was finally settling. A calm was returning to the town. Well, everywhere except for the Ortiz home. They were in the middle of a highly contested game of twister, as the Flynn's and Ortiz's had a play date. Avie was teamed with Gen, and as Callum glanced at his daughter, he could tell from the smirk that she was cheating, but he couldn't move to check. Instead, he glared at her. "Right, you cheater. Where's my next move?" He chuckled.

Of course, it happened to be the right arm on blue, which meant the furthest stretch across the board and through Gen's legs. Callum turned to face Gen, trying to hide his laughter. "Uh -- do you mind if I just get my arm through there..." The man's cheeks flushed, mentally prepared to blame it on exertion from the game and not the fact their bodies were about to be entwined. He squatted down to keep his feet on the correct spots, then stretched his long arm to green. The back of his head rested on her butt to steady himself. Callum would have given her a gentle nudge if she were anyone else, hoping she would fall over, but instead, he sat there sweating it out. He couldn't cheat on her, especially when his daughter was working so hard for her to win. "Do you ever feel like you're being ganged up on?" He asked Gen as he heard the evil cackles of two kids wanting to torture their parents.

She had only come to the party at the insistence of her sisters, her stepmother and the promise from Cameron that he would be her date. She wanted to be curled up on her couch, fitting perfectly into the imprint her ass had left on it over the sheer amount of time she had spent on it over the last few weeks but instead she had been forced into a sparkly dress and heels. At least the champagne was free and apparently, limitless.

Sitting at the end of the bar, as far away from the party as possible and hoping she was blending into the dark wall behind her, Cali looked down at the bubbles fizzing in her drink. God, she was miserable. As she sensed someone stand at the bar next to her, she sighed a little. "You may want to go to the other side, I hear party pooper is contagious." Taking a sip of her drink, it was only then that Cali glanced to the side, out of the corner of her eye. God, not now. "Or I'll just go, so this doesn't get real awkward, real fast."

“This is an exciting next step, Gen.” Cam smiled as he shut the door behind her. She had asked him to watch Juliana while she went house hunting, and he was genuinely thrilled for her. He knew how much independence meant to Genesis, and it was good to see her in a place where this was finally a possibility.

Juliana had already scampered off to her bedroom, leaving her parents alone for the first time since New Year’s—with so much unspoken between them. The silence carried a weight Cam hadn’t felt since he first moved back to Briar Ridge after their divorce. He wasn’t sure if he should acknowledge the elephant in the room just yet, so instead, he stuck to safer ground.

Val had taken to walking Billie to school on her drop off days. It was a super short walk and starting the morning off with a bit of exercise never hurt anybody. "¡Adiós, niña! ¡Te amo!" she called as she watched Billie scurry off to join her friends. Picking up her phone, she quickly took a selfie and was typing out a caption along the lines of, "Avoid the drop of lines, walk your kid to school today!" to post on her story when she caught a glimpse of a familiar face saying goodbye to her daughter. With all the kids yelling and parents calling out about forgotten lunchboxes, there was a lot of background noise, so Val didn't hear what Genesis said to Juliana, but that was definitely her across the parking lot. Stuffing her phone into her cross-body bag, Val quickly made her way over to Genesis. "Hola chica!" she greeted, once she was within better hearing distance from her friend. "Please tell me your week has gotten off to a better start than mine?"

There was a difference between knowing your privelege and your privilege jumping up and smacking you in the face and as Jiya looked at the array of light bulbs in front of her, hers did just that. She had been lucky enough that growing up, and even in her own apartment, she'd always had someone who had changed the lightbulbs. At her parents place, it was their housekeeper and when she had moved in with Alex, she had assumed it was him seeing as she had never done it. He had moved out but considering she still hadn't ever changed one, she assumed her cleaner had taken pity on her.

As she stared at them now, not knowing which she would need for the rental she was shortly going to move into, it felt like her brain was going to explode. "You have an MD, you can choose the right damn lightbulb." Did there really need to be this many? Gingerly reaching for a box, Jiya glanced behind her as she heard a voice. Her eyes quickly scanned around them to make sure it was her that was being addressed before she looked at the paint chart. "I'd go for sunset petal, pink lemonade on a whole wall might give you a headache." Replacing the box of bulbs on the shelf, Jiya stepped over to the woman, glancing at the colour chart. "Yeah, definitely the petal one. The other one is giving pepto bismol, you know?"

The fluorescent lights buzzed faintly overhead as Genesis stood in front of a towering wall of paint swatches. Each square was a slightly different shade of pink, ranging all the way from blush to magenta, though some had names so pretentious she couldn’t bring herself to say them aloud. At least not without laughing.

Holding two swatches in her hands, Genesis squinted between them like the fate of the world depended on whether Juliana’s new room would be 'Sunset Petal' or 'Pink Lemonade.'

“Why are there forty-seven versions of the same colour?” she muttered to herself, exasperated and amused all at once. While she hadn't been talking to anyone in particular, some movement to her right caught the woman's eye. "Sorry to bother you but woman to woman, which do you like more? My daughter requested pink and I’m trying to find a shade that says ‘seven-year-old's dream room’ without screaming ‘bubblegum explosion.’ She’s growing up so fast. I want something she can grow into, but I swear they all start to look the same after the third row.”

There was an obvious tension in the air, and Callum sat across from Gen, mind racing and trying to figure it all out. Everything had been different since the drunken kiss. They laughed it off like it was nothing, but weeks passed, and they hadn't spoken. She had also tried to set him up with Kira out of nowhere. Not that Callum had an issue with that, but it felt forced. Something was for sure up, and now he was sitting there a little panicked that he had fucked a good friendship up.

He took the coffee from her with a smile and mumbled thank you, then wrapped his hands around it as a means of comfort. "So, uh -- yea... what's up?" He paused momentarily to glance at her, locking eyes with her before quickly looking away and down at his drink. "This Carter fella seems to have ruffled a few feathers." They had agreed to talk about Carter, so he respected that agreement and started there.

In their own ways, each of the friends had been through hell in their romantic lives and even though it wasn't the reason they were friends, it had bonded them more than Kira could comprehend. As much as she knew her friends wanted her to be happy and would help her when she was putting herself out there, she also knew they wouldn't push her, just like she wouldn't to them. "I have never gone up to someone and just started flirting, literally never." Her head tilted a little to the side at the prospect of two more drinks and she quickly glanced between her friends, her lips pursing slightly. "Practice?" Her jaw dropped slightly as Genesis smouldered at her and it took everything in Kira to not laugh. She was truly lucky to have friends like this, but before she could speak, she simply clutched Emil's arm. "Em, she's flirting with me." Pressing her lips together to stop herself from laughing, Kira cleared her throat before trying to sound flirty. "Hi there.. Yes sure, I'd love a beer. You're very handsome, you know?" Glancing between Emil and Gen, Kira raised her hands. "Was it awful? You're a guy, would you continue flirting with me or would you roll your eyes and walk away?"

Emil's features morphed into an exaggerated frown, and his eyes rolled toward the sky. "I think I'd survive." He deadpanned, "I have other friends, an' owe a dance to someone so-" the man shrugged his broad shoulders only to be swiftly betrayed by his usual lopsided smile. A laugh fell from his lips at Kira's excited reaction to his movie reference. "See, I pay attention." Though, he definitely wasn't sure if he needed any more of their Pop Culture influence. "I don't know about that," Emil nodded his head over her shoulder. "He's still kind of glancing over here," his gaze shifted between himself and Gen as Kira gestured between them. "Ah, no I can't... my success rate is pretty high, if I flirted with someone right this second they might try to come steal me away." He tossed up his free hand, "Just the truth."

Since the very second the hurricane warning had been issued, Cameron had had one thought nagging at the back of his head - Juliana. He'd tried to find Genesis in the crowd to see if she had managed to contact her mother yet, but in the frantic rush to get to the school it was impossible to track anyone. By the time he got through the front doors he was soaked to the bone and frantic, and he couldn't help the frustration that leaked out into his voice when he asked the first responders at the entrance if they'd by any chance seen someone matching Genesis' description and they responded with an incredulous look, as if they hadn't just witnessed hundreds of people enter this building all at once. With a groan, he began the arduous task of storming through the school halls, scanning every person he passed, desperation and fear - over not only Juliana but also Genesis - now making him clench his fists together.

"You know, I think you might be right. Ice cream might be needed." he agreed with a grin, eyes shining with pride as he looked down at Juliana, waiting for her reaction. He was still so focused on his daughter, he hadn't quite taken a good look at the woman in Genesis' chair. But as his daughter asked her to talk to her daughter for her, Cameron's attention was dragged in her direction. His brows came together in confusion, there was something oddly familiar about the woman, something that made him feel like he'd seen her before but couldn't quite place where. When she spoke, her voice only confirmed that feeling further. And Cam couldn't help but study her, transfixed for a second as he tried to figure out where he knew her from.

Suddenly, it hit him.

Was this the woman he'd spent the evening of the masquerade ball with? The awkwardness of the whole situation hit him like a ton of bricks and his gaze ping-ponged back and forth between his ex-wife and the woman in the chair, who he'd gone on a raffle date with and kissed just a couple weeks ago, wondering if he was the only person who had connected the dots.

Thankfully, Juliana snapped him out of his spiral when she said a quick, "Thank you!" to the woman and then ran back over to Cameron. "I'm ready for my ice cream now, Daddy!" Cameron offered her a shaky smile. "Sure thing, kiddo. Uhh..." he paused, glancing back at the woman again. "Guess I'll- I'll be seeing you." He said it in the direction of his ex-wife, but he couldn't help but wonder if the woman in the chair would remember it from the end of their date that night. @genortiz

Before Genesis could take the time to respond to any of Leyla's comments, the sound of her ex's voice filled the room and she watched as their daughter left the stack of picture books she had been flipping through in order to greet Cameron. While these interactions had become rather routine, today's pickup was sure to have an interesting plot twist. Not only had she forgotten that Leyla's appointment would coincide with his visit, but Gen wondered just how long it would take for the other woman to recognize her date. At least she wouldn't be the one to break the news.

With an awkward laugh, the woman did her best to focus on Juliana's excitement along with how proud the little girl had made both of her parents. "I know! I was telling her you might have to go for ice cream to celebrate."
