True, that game's got all the emotional baggage wrapped in cute, sparkly packaging, so it’s way easier to digest. Though I'm not gonna lie, the Forgotten's quest line got me a bit in my feels. But yeah, if cooking was actually that easy in real life, I might be a five-star chef by now. Instead, my culinary expertise is basically "take this frozen pizza and hope for the best." I swear, one day I’ll master the art of not burning toast, but until then, I’ll keep relying on the miracle of delivery.
Oh, I've got DDV -- well, not the two DLCs yet, but the base game at least, I picked it up while it was in beta. Disneyfied trauma hits slightly differently then actual six-year-olds with anxiety disorders, and I appreciate the game's willingness to let me be kind of passive-aggressively bitchy to Mother Gothel and Ursula, ha. And that's another game where I can pretend I know how to cook -- why is it that real life cooking isn't like cozy game cooking? Let me toss random things in a cauldron, spend one coal and end up with a five-star meal, that's all I'm asking. At this point I'm pretty sure the local restaurant delivery community knows my address on sight and says 'not this disaster again' every time I place an order.

Somebody mark the calendar, because I don’t think this happens often. But yeah, The Book of Mormon just gets it, you know? It’s over-the-top, completely unhinged, but somehow still really well-crafted. Plus, if a song can make me laugh and get stuck in my head for days, that’s a win. Now, should I be concerned that you were fully prepared to roast me if I had picked wrong? Because I feel like I just narrowly avoided public humiliation.
I can’t even disagree with that, because ‘You and Me (But Mostly Me)’ exists, and also ‘I Believe’ is a fucking banger in the most hilarious way. Consider me pleasantly surprised and reluctantly impressed, Weston.

Modern Vintage is great, I'm sure you'll be able to find some amazing pieces to really make Miss Scarlet come to life! And yeah, multiple costumes should totally be a thing—honestly, it would be so much fun, even if it meant running around in between activities trying to squeeze in all those outfit changes. I already do the regular two costumes—one for the daycare kids during the day, and then another for any Halloween parties in the evening—but imagine if we could work in even more! Though, I guess by the end of the day, I’d probably be too wiped out to actually get in on the holiday fun!
The fraternal contingent voted yay to my quite frankly excellent suggestion, so Miss Scarlet it is. I’m gonna have to hit up Modern Vintage for accessories, but it should be fun, especially unleashing the FULL Schuester flair for the dramatic on the unsuspecting town — I should apologize in advance, but I’m not gonna. If changing costumes throughout the day were a thing, I would be an enthusiastic participant, that’s for sure, and I’m pretty sure the kids would LOVE it too.

Charlie laughed at Stella's reaction, a playful glint in her eyes. "Oh, you know, my growl is absolutely ferocious," she replied, her voice dropping into a comically low register as she attempted her best impression of a tiger's roar. It came out sounding more like a mix between a purr and a giggle, but she owned it nonetheless, her grin widening. "Okay, so not great," she said through a fit of giggles.
Stella's eyes widened at the tiger face mask Charlie indicated, complete with stripes and whiskers, and gave a low whistle. "Tiger face, that's commitment. I'm duly impressed, I'm over here looking at the baby face painting and you're ready to dive right on in." She grinned and shot Charlie a sideways glance of consideration. "I think you can absolutely pull it off. Just needs one of those cat ear headbands for the FULL effect, but in place of that -- how's your growl?"

Absolutely, Dogmeat is the epitome of Best Boy status in the gaming world. And hey, there's always time to explore new games with loyal canine companions, right? As for your weekend plans, pajamas and cereal sound like the perfect recipe for relaxation. Sometimes, that's just what the doctor ordered. Consider it your well-deserved downtime after saving the world one counseling session at a time.
Oh hey, if Dogmeat is actually a dog, then that automatically elevates him to Best Boy In Show, hands down. I feel like I'm probably playing the wrong video games, if none of them have a loyal canine companion like that. I appreciate you, and so does my license, tbh. I fully plan to sit around in my pajamas eating cereal for the bulk of the weekend, provided no nosy family members try to drag me out into public where I can embarrass us both.

I know all too well what it's like to get a little too caught up in work, and I love that you're so passionate about your job, but I do have to agree with your brother that a healthy work-life balance is important. So this social media soft launch sounds like the perfect first step! And your brother seems like a really great guy, so I'm sure he meant well. It's nice to meet you, Stella! I'm Blaine.
If anyone ever tries to tell you peer pressure isn't a thing in your 30s, they are a lying liar who LIES.
In related news, APPARENTLY my brother decided to show up and has declared that me being a workaholic with no social life is "problematic" and "a total downer Stells", so soft launching social media seemed like a valid compromise. Yay?
I'm Stella. Matt's my brother. I, unfortunately, refuse to apologize for that. He's an idiot, but he's my idiot.

Oh my gosh, don't even remind me that I still need to figure out a costume! We only have a month until Halloween and I haven't even started thinking about it. I always say I'm going to do better and plan ahead, and yet every year I find myself trying to throw something together last minute. Also I don't know who those people are... are they on Broadway?
Okay, so I already have two separate Halloween costume ideas half formed in my head, but I spent the first chunk of my staycation binge watching anything and everything the almighty algorithm put in front of me (plus a few of the recs I got a few weeks back, I said I would), and like.
If there were MAYBE a handful of ladies around town who wanted to coordinate as Agatha Harkness’ coven from Agatha All Along….
I could PROBABLY be convinced to be your Wanda Maximoff.
Just sayin’.
(Yes, The Ballad of the Witches’ Road IS stuck in my head, why do you ask? I blame Patti F*ckin’ LuPone.)

Ah, see and here I was about to suggest Dreamlight Valley to you, but it does kind of deal with unresolved issues and such, so I won't! But Animal Crossing, dude. That game is peak cozy games in my mind. If Stardew is anywhere near as entertaining, maybe I need to stick it out longer. I'm with you on the cooking though. My skills in the kitchen extend to grilled cheese and that's pretty much it. Thank god for takeout, you know? Otherwise, pretty sure I'd starve.
It gets kind of repetitive after a while, admittedly. I just kind of enjoy the low stakes of it all, my least favorite part is the combat -- and the fishing. OH MY GOD, I suck at the fishing, which is weird, because I am ACES at fishing in Animal Crossing. But yeah, I just like doing something where I'm not at risk for bringing up unresolved trauma or internalized phobias, I quite like retiring to a farm where all I have to do is water crops each day and can delude myself that I have any ability to cook.

Oh my gosh, I love both of those ideas! Wilma Flintstone would be so fun, and Kim Possible is such a throwback! But Miss Scarlet? Total icon. I can see why you're torn—each of those would be amazing. If you go the Clue route with your brothers, that could be such a cool group costume. It’s so hard to choose, though, isn’t it? Maybe we should just start a whole trend of changing costumes throughout the day—one for morning circle time, another for snack time, and a big reveal by nap time! That would solve our indecision for sure!
It's the best, and I like to think having to keep up with those leaps of logic keeps us young too -- at heart and in spirit, even if not in body.
Oooooh, I like this idea, and not just because I'm indecisive. Dorothy's a total classic too, especially because you're bound to come across any number of witches that you can have some fun with, ha. I was thinking Wilma Flintstone or Kim Possible, but I might have to pivot to work on a third option now, since my brothers are eyeing Clue characters and Miss Scarlet is iconic -- see what I mean about indecisive?

Alright, fine. If I had to pick one, I’d say The Book of Mormon. It’s got everything—hilarious songs, irreverence, and a ridiculous story that somehow makes you feel something. I mean, it’s like they took every rule and threw it out the window, and it somehow worked.
Your niece is a woman of taste, clearly. I don't know about all time -- I'm a Cabaret girl, myself -- but you've sufficiently distracted me from an indignant rant because now I want to know what YOUR greatest musical of all time is. Blah blah blah 'not super big on musicals' no excuses -- make your case, I want to hear it. Just bear in mind that if you say Spongebob Squarepants or Shrek: The Musical, it will be forever immortalized on the internet.

Kids really do have the most fascinating way of looking at the world. You’re so right—it’s always fun trying to trace back how they got there. Sometimes their logic is just pure magic.
As for Halloween, I’m still a bit torn. I usually pick one for work and then one for the party, which me and Teddy are trying to figure out how to top our costumes from last year (we went as the Barbie and Ken from Toy Story 3). But for work this year I’m really leaning toward a classic like Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz—it would be fun to wear those ruby slippers! What are your top contenders?
It doesn't happen often, just because families move or kids' needs shift as they get older, but good lord is it a kick in the heart when it does. It's always kind of fun to try to trace back their thought processes too -- like, something made them come up with that question, and sometimes when I ask them? The explanation is even more hilarious than the question.
Oh god, I have -- I've got my costume options narrowed down, I just have to make a final decision so I can work out the finishing touches before the kids start grilling me for hints. Do you know what you're doing for it yet?

That sounds so special, being able to watch them grow up like that and stay connected as they become teenagers. I imagine those bonds stick with you long after they’ve moved on. I totally get what you mean about those random, out-of-the-blue questions too! I love it when my little ones just come up with the most unexpected things—it’s like their brains are always working in the background.
Speaking of unexpected things, have you started thinking about Halloween yet?
I'm absolutely positive that they do -- you can see it in their smiles, every single time. I like working with slightly older kids myself just because of the conversations we can have. Littles are so sweet and tactile, but school-age is where they start to get to the point where they ask me in the middle of coloring what my third favorite reptile is and WHY, you know? Or tell me long, rambling stories about the caterpiller they saw on the playground that day. And the absolute best is the kids I have who stay with me until they age out as teenagers -- I get to watch them grow and develop and learn how to be comfortable in themselves as little mini adults. I've only had a few of those, and none here in Bearcreek just yet, but I always get the best hugs when those kiddos move on to bigger and brighter things.

Aww, that’s so sweet of you to say! It really does mean a lot to hear that. I guess even if my kiddos can’t draw detailed superheroes yet, I hope they feel a little bit of that magic in their everyday interactions. How is it working with older kids though? I've thought about maybe moving up to school aged kids, but the only real reference I have is my best friend who works in kindergarten. Do you like working with older kids?
It's the BEST, and 100% totally made me cry -- and I'm a stone-cold bitch half the time, tears don't come easily unless one of my kids is involved. You're still a HUGE part of their daily lives, and that's nothing to scoff at -- especially at an age where hugs and kind words can be so formative. Pretty sure that makes you their superhero too, if they were old enough to have the words for it (and fine motor skills with crayons).

The number of times I've started that game and just kinda.... stopped. I don't know what it is, but I can never go more than like a season before I lose interest. It was honestly so shocking to me because I am also the type to play Animal Crossing until there's literally nothing else for me to do.
Probably Stardew Valley. Matt is a dirty copycat, but I haven't actually done a full playthrough since they added Ginger Island (mostly because Skull Cavern gives me anxiety), so I bet I could stay fully entertained for a loooooong while before I started systematically marrying every eligible villager.
