Hands on Fujinon XF50mm f1.0 Portrait Lens @ Fujifilm Workshop

IvanYolo Once again, I am delighted to share my experience of joining the second portrait photoshoot Fujifilm workshop held at Saloma Bridge in Kuala Lumpur. This incredible event was organized by YL Camera in collaboration with Fujifilm Malaysia and Fujifilm X-Photographer, Joie Koo, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it once more. Do check out some photos shot with the Fujifilm X-H2S from the previous Fujifilm workshop event held in Kwai Chai Hong.This time around, there was a pleasant surprise awaiting me at the workshop—I was able to get my hands on the highly anticipated Fujinon XF50mm f1.0 R WR lens! During the first session of the Fujifilm workshop, this lens was in high demand and had been rented out, so I had to explore the photography possibilities with a different lens.However, this time, I had the privilege of using the Fujinon XF50mm f1.0 R WR lens, and let me tell you, it was an absolute joy to work with. From the moment I held it in my hands, I could feel the solid build quality and appreciate the attention to detail that Fujifilm put into designing this lens. The lens exuded a sense of reliability and craftsmanship, which heightened my excitement to put it to the test.

Exploring The New Lens

Equipped with my trusted Fujifilm X-T4 camera, I embarked on the photoshoot armed with the extraordinary Fujinon XF50mm f1.0 lens, a combination that proved to be a match made in photography heaven. Throughout the entire session, I had the pleasure of capturing stunning images using my latest own carefully crafted Fujifilm recipes, namely Ethereal Street and Reverie Noir. I recommend exploring the newly developed Fusion Obscura, a meticulously crafted photography style that excels in capturing muted yet captivating film-like portraits, as well as achieving a cinematic look for street photography.What sets the newly created Obscura recipes apart is its ability to achieve these stunning results without relying on additional lens accessories like diffusion filters. If you are looking to get some lens accessories, the 50mm lens have a 77mm filter thread size.

Exploring The Fujifilm's Fujinon XF50mm f1 R WR Portrait Lens

Fujifilm X-T4 // Fujinon XF50mm f1.0 R WR As a personal travel photographer in Malaysia, I am always on the lookout for lenses that can truly capture the essence and beauty of my subjects. And I must say, the Fujinon XF50mm f1.0 R WR lens exceeded my expectations. With its wide maximum aperture of f/1.0, I was able to achieve stunning depth of field effects and create beautifully blurred backgrounds that emphasized the main subject of my photographs.Shooting at f/1.0 allowed me to explore new creative possibilities and experiment with various techniques. It gave me the ability to isolate my subjects, ensuring they stood out in the frame while the background melted away into a dreamy bokeh. The lens performed exceptionally well in low-light conditions, enabling me to capture sharp, detailed images even in challenging environments.What impressed me the most was the lens's ability to produce tack-sharp images even at its widest aperture. The level of detail and the overall image quality were outstanding, showcasing Fujifilm's commitment to delivering exceptional optics. The lens also exhibited minimal distortion and chromatic aberration, further enhancing the overall image quality and allowing me to achieve accurate and lifelike renditions of my subjects.I found myself falling in love with the Fujinon XF50mm f1.0 R WR lens throughout the workshop. It became evident that this lens is truly one of the best portrait lenses that Fujifilm has ever produced. Its outstanding performance, combined with the renowned Fujifilm color science, resulted in images that were not only technically excellent but also visually captivating.

Conclusion

In conclusion, getting the opportunity to test out the f/1.0 aperture on the Fujinon XF50mm f1.0 R WR lens was a remarkable experience. It allowed me to push the boundaries of my portrait photography and unleash my creativity in new and exciting ways. I am grateful to YL Camera, Fujifilm Malaysia, and the organizers of the workshop for providing me with this chance to explore the capabilities of such an exceptional lens.

Fujifilm X-H2S: Portraiture Series @ Fujifilm Workshop KL

IvanYolo Have you ever attended a photography workshop and loaned a new camera to try out? That's what happened to me at the recent Fujifilm workshop in Kuala Lumpur, a collaboration of YL camera and Fujifilm Malaysia, where I had the chance to use the Fujifilm X-H2S with the X-Trans V sensor and Fujinon XF23mm f1.4 lens for an outdoor portrait shoot.Although it may seem unusual to use a wide-angle lens for portraits, it was my only option as all the portrait lenses were already loaned out. But I was open to the challenge and excited to try out the 23mm lens, especially as I had been considering it for shooting street photography.As I got my hands on the Fujifilm X-H2S and the XF23mm f1.4, I was amazed by the camera's performance. The X-H2S delivered stunning image quality, and the 5-axis in-body image stabilization system ensured sharp, blur-free images even in low light conditions.After attended the Fujifilm workshop, I will share my first impression of the X-H2S, including its handgrip, suitability for portrait shoots, and features that set it apart from the X-T4, which is my current Fujifilm camera I'm using. Fujifilm X-H2S // Fujinon XF23mm f1.4 One of the first things I noticed when holding the Fujifilm X-H2S was its sturdy handgrip. Even when I held the camera with one hand, it felt secure, and I didn't feel like it would slip away. However, I still recommend using a wrist grip for added safety, as unexpected things can happen during a shoot. With the lens attached on the camera, the weight is just right and not heavy.As the owner of the Fujifilm X-T4, I was excited to see how the X-H2S would compare when shooting portraits. And I must say, I was impressed. The X-H2S offers excellent performance, thanks to its advanced features and powerful processing capabilities. I could capture stunning photos with ease, even in low light situations.While I didn't get the chance to try shooting video with the X-H2S yet, I was impressed by its 4K/60P 10-bit video recording feature. This means that videographers can capture footage with incredible clarity and detail, making the X-H2S a versatile camera for both photography and videography. The mini LCD screen on the top is helpful when you want to quickly check your shutter speed, ISO, aperture, and other settings.

Trying out the SOOC Nostalgic Negative Film Simulation

Fujifilm X-H2S // Fujinon XF23mm f1.4 As a creator of film recipes, I was eager to try out the new Nostalgic Negative film simulation on the Fujifilm X-H2S. As soon as I received the camera, the first thing I did was switch the film simulation to Nostalgic Negative to get a feel for the color tone. I didn't adjust other settings, such as white balance, shadow, highlight etc., and tried it out by shooting SOOC JPEG.I decided to shoot with the Nostalgic Negative film simulation throughout my entire session to see how it performed. The results were stunning, with the vintage color tone giving my portrait photos a unique and captivating look. The Nostalgic Negative film simulation is an exciting addition to Fujifilm's range of film simulations, and I'm thrilled to have tried it out on the Fujifilm X-H2S. This film simulation offers a nostalgic and classic feel to the images, reminiscent of old film cameras.To capture most of the subject's portrait, I shot from a low-angle and tried different shooting styles with the lens. However, taking half-body or head shots would be awkward since I would have to get very close to the subject with the 23mm lens.Honestly saying, I pretty enjoyed shooting with Nostalgic Negative film simulation, as I don't have to worry about any harsh shadow or yellowish orange tone that altered the skin tone such as the Classic Negative which I've used frequently for portrait shoot.

Fujifilm X-H2S // Fujinon XF23mm f1.4 In conclusion, attending a photography workshop can offer a unique opportunity to try out new cameras and lenses, and that's precisely what happened at the recent Fujifilm workshop in Kuala Lumpur. I had the chance to test the Fujifilm X-H2S with the X-Trans V sensor and Fujinon XF23mm f1.4 lens for an outdoor portrait shoot. In my own opinion, the 23mm equivelant to 35mm should be good enough for some low-angled which I was previously eagerly wanted to try for the high fashion shoot I've done recently. There are slight distortion but it still looks great for full body shot if you want to make the subject look slimmer. Just my two cent.

However, I embraced the challenge and was impressed with the results, which demonstrated that the Fujifilm X-H2S is a versatile camera that can produce excellent images with a range of lenses. So, if you have the chance to attend a photography workshop, don't hesitate to loan a new camera or lens and try something different. You might be surprised by the results!If you're a professional photographer or videographer looking for the ultimate camera, the Fujifilm X-H2s is the perfect choice. With its advanced features, powerful performance, and durable design, it's the ideal camera for capturing stunning photos and videos in any situation. There are also Fujifilm GFX medium format cameras to loan and try, but perhaps next round, I'll go for it.Thanks to @ylcamera and @fujifilmmy for organizing such a fantastic workshop because I'm able to get a good experience and try out new Fujifilm camera products.
