Seeing everyone else discuss their names for Scaramouche/Wanderer is making me realize I put too much thought into it
I’m going with “Fujin Ahana” because it’s got layers
Fujin (風神)because duh, the god of wind is connected to Raijin or Raiden. I feel like that’s a pretty self explanatory last name consider how connected the Inazuma lore is to the Shinto pantheon. Honestly if you didn’t know that reference by now and why that’s the main reason they’re anemo, you gotta be living under a rock.
Aahana or Ahana (亜華/天花) is a name that can mean immortal, morning glory, heaven, sky, or flower depending on the language you’re referencing and it’s also a common last name for those of Chinese descent born overseas. I’m going with the Japanese spelling, Wanderer is going to wake up as a reborn person in a new nation that is full of Sanskrit based names, & it’s typically a female name which kinda pokes at Scaramouche’s initial purpose without blatantly calling them a puppet. Most people assume they’re trans, I suspect the same- at least non-binary so I rather play into that without making it too obvious. Also their redesigned hat & Hindu referencing accessories reminds people of the Aranara & being in the dendro nation, it just makes sense to go with a flower based name.
Other names I considered but I figured not too because they might be used as a Sumeru npc name or be associated with someone else & I rather not clarify every time I’m asked are Caelus, Anila, Enlil, Samir, Azure, & Shu. I also went down a list of flower names and saying “fuu-jin ah-hah-nah” & “ah-hah-nah fuu-jin” outloud felt super natural to me.
Btw there’s a rumor their birthday is Jan 3 & I like the idea of naming them Carnation but do you know how silly that would be in terms of the symbolism? They’re learning how to love but he’s not THAT committed. I considered Carna for short but that’s the name of the goddess who protects internal organs and they’re missing a heart 💀
Like go off if you want to name them Scara or Balladeeznutsinyourmouth to each their own but man, I do feel a bit silly spending a few hours looking at baby names now.
#mun post#Genshin Impact#the wanderer#wanderer#scaramouche#oh yeah so also Fujin or Futen tend to be used as last names so yes I’m doing the thing where it’s last than first#but for the en speakers it’d be ahana fujin which also just feels right when you say it out loud#there’s something phonetically pleasing about the combo working both ways#which rarely happens like try saying Kazuha Kadehara or Miku Hatsune out#loud it doesn’t feel right or comfy at all#because phonetically it’s got all the vowels in the wrong places for English#also Ahana is just a nice name to say outloud in Spanish#because you’re really going ah-jah-na#anyways good luck with the names everyone#Tbh I chose not to go with Scara because that’s the name of a real life robot so I was like “man that’s kinda messed up”#also for those wondering the scara bot is the Selective Compliance Articulated Robot Arm#like google it - it’s literally the scara bot#also like Ahana/Wanderer/Scaramouche is sorta immortal in a similar way to Albedo and it makes me wonder how Khaenri’ah tech and alchemy#works so I also considered science based names but since we don’t know what he’s made of exactly I kinda gave up#Albedo = Chalk Sucrose = she experiments on sweet flowers Scaramouche = ?¿metal¿?#there’s a lot of iron ore everywhere but calling Scaramouche Iron Man is fucking funny#on a side note I think my interest in names comes from the fact I got a ridiculous irl name that’s super long and translates to#wise rock of a fort protected by Christ amongst the green valleys#I’m not fucking joking my name is a whole long title to say ‘your name is rock’#if I ever get a name change I’m just going to name myself rock to make it easier

This was a stranger, and yet something tugged at the mechanical heart she used. It wasn’t like she could ever forget that face, and perhaps it wasn’t impossible someone could look so much like Makoto... but it was too haunting. Too curious. Under the hat he wore, she could swear she saw the eyes of her sister. Eyes she had given a number of prototypes before even that had to be scrapped.

“Perhaps... But I cannot deny my curiosity. However, I won’t be selfish and demand it be sated. If traveling is all you wish to do here, I simply wish to make myself useful to you. I haven’t met a new traveler in a very long time.” Ei smiles, trying to make herself as unintimidating as possible. Perhaps that was why the stranger was standoffish? She was never good at keeping track of her expression, it was possible she had unknowingly looked agitated.

the result of researching stories about japanese mythology, fox-wives, and binge-watching inuyasha for the 99th time in a row:
takami and tomoko, twin auspices who take on humanoid forms. my lore on them is very bare bones and subject to change but here's what I got thus far:
'takami' and 'tomoko' are just aliases. they're true names are 'raikou' and 'futen', they are the twin lords of chaos and the scourge of the east
while they appear human, the twins have pointed ears and 'birthmarks' along their faces
despite their appearances, takami is known to be a dense, wisecracking trickster who eats his weight in his favorite foods. tomoko is the mature one of the two; if takami gets too brash or if he intentionally annoys her, she'll yank at his hair to shut him up. despite her no-nonsense attitude, tomoko has a love of fashion and theater
they hail from the eastern region of koshu and are said to have been born near daitenzan mountain nearly two thousand years prior
their original forms were of raccoon dogs born with silver and black fur. because of their unique coloring, various lords and poachers of the region wished to hunt them for their body parts as they believed they would bring them good fortune. the will to survive allowed them to live beyond their natural lifespans and gain sentience and immense spiritual power
they can take on the forms of silver raccoon dogs at will to hide out or escape trouble. while under the effects of aramitama, they can transform into terrifying creatures and wreak total destruction on the lands
takami and tomoko are formidable foes in battle as they harness the powers of lightning and wind. while their ages may differ, they could rival the four lords in brute strength alone
the twins can be seen flying by at times: tomoko rides on a cloud while takami's mode of transportation are floating wheels of fire beneath his feet
tomoko has been called 'the wind sorceress' for her ability to harness deadly gusts, gales, and twisters with her fans; they're sharp enough to behead a man if he's not careful. she's also agile, swift on her feet, and can create clones of herself out of air
takami wields a naginata called 'raiden'. it is rumored to be cursed with demonic energy. besides being a polearm, takami uses his naginata as a lightning rod to channel thunder and lightning for ranged attacks
the twins operated as mercenaries during the age of blood; they served various clans on both sides of the war throughout the centuries for coin. they gained infamy for their peculiar magicks and penchant for mayhem. while awe-inspiring, the warlords at the time grew fearful of the twins' power as auspices and elected to band together in order to slaughter them. takami and tomoko narrowly escaped certain death by fleeing to onokoro in order to hide in the looming tower heaven-on-high. they took advantage of the mortals' superstitions of the island and laid low for the next few centuries
they became unofficial guardians of the ruby sea and the locals of onokoro believe that the heavy gales and severe thunderstorms, sometimes deadly, are caused by raikou and futen. they offer prayer and worship to quell the twin fury of the auspices
at some point in time, takami fell in love with a mortal named tauvane, a rare occurrence amongst their kind. this would eventually lead to his downfall and tomoko's loss of spiritual power, it was stolen by tauvane who now harnesses chaotic wind powers (wip)
takami unknowingly sired a son known as achille who inherited his father's power over the destructive element of lightning. tomoko is achille's aunt and achille can descend into a primal rage as a result of being part-auspice

Welp, I hope you don't mind sliding in one of my ocs that I was gonna reserve for my story, but I ended up using her for this instead.
She's kinda a ghost skeleton monster (kinda like Napstablook), sustaining herself with 3/4's of her soul (1/4 is missing), but she's good.
Also, I don't know how to draw or make art, so I used Gacha Plus to make this. (Love your art, btw)
You can do this, ALIVE! Don't lose hope!
Aww sounds like she's a good ghost girl, thank you!! ♥♥♥ (I love her outfit.)

Rule: Tag 10 people you want to get to know better
Tagged by @novafire-is-thinking - Thanks for tagging me! This looks fun!
Relationship Status: Single
Favorite Color: Dark blues and greys of all shades.
Something I want right now: More skill in art, better grades, and understanding of my school material. I am in a never ending state of stress due to my inability to posses these three things.
Song stuck in my head: Valhalla Calling by Miracle of Sound. I've been playing too much assassins creed and my love of Norse mythos doesn't help much.
Three Favorite Foods: Homemade pizza, mint chocolate (I could eat myself to death on the stuff), and Shepherds Pie.
Last Song I listened to: My Mother Told Me - Vinni Marchi Cover. I just really love the singer's voice. It's rather soothing in an odd way.
Last Thing I Googled: "Cybertronian time measurements" since I am writing a fic and can't remember anything to save my life.
Dream Trip: New Zealand. I want to see where Lord of the Rings was filmed with my own two eyes thank you. Also I heard they have hobbit hole hotels and I want in on that. My nerd brain needs to enjoy a hobbit hole at least once.
Bonus Questions:
If you had the opportunity to [safely] become a cyborg via body upgrades, would you take it?: Depends on the mods honestly. But yeah, I wouldn't mind becoming a Cyborg of sorts so long as I don't lose some key features about myself. I have never had any issues with my body, and so as long as the upgrades didn't completely rework me, I think it would be an neat thing to experience, especially if the upgrades came with something like wings.
Tagging: Oh my gosh who do I tag?!? I don't want to be annoying!?! Feel free to not join if you don't want to. I know some of you who I am tagging aren't my mutuals so don't feel pressured!
@i-mean-technically, @bunmuffin, @justawannabearchaeologist, @kuzuki-futen, @melishade, @riderkaitlyn5 and anyone else who feels like getting in on this!

OP turned off reblogs but said screenshotting was OK, so here’s a twist for you:
it doesn’t help
the devil lies
Where did this trope come from that the Father of Lies must hold up his end of a bargain, anyway? It seems to have sprung into existence recently and quickly, a sort of simulacrum without original.
Who’s enforcing these demonic contracts on the Devil? When I try to think of classic examples, it’s usually the fey who are obliged by their nature to hold up their end of the bargain to the letter.
Some variations of demonic bargain tropes in classic literature and stories that I can think of, none of which work that way:
Lesser Key of Solomon: there’s little or no bargaining, command the demons by the names of God and goetic secrets
The Bottle Imp: it grants wishes, the catch is that you go to Hell if you die while owning it, and it’s hard to get rid of
Matthew 4: no deal
Goethe’s Faust: Faust repents and escapes
The Devil and Daniel Webster: the Devil pays a man prosperity up front, and when he tries to collect the man’s soul, the jury refuses
The Girl Without Hands: the Devil can’t enforce the contract, has to cajole and threaten the miller into cutting off his daughter’s hands, still can’t enforce the contract
Bearskin: it was a feint, the contractor is saved, but the Devil gets two other souls who committed suicide out of envy at the contractor
The Flying Dutchman and various similar walk-the-Earth stories: Devil pays up front, contractor is quasi-damned at the end
Various musicians alleged to have bought talent from the Devil: again, the Devil pays up front
Stingy Jack (Jack-o-Lantern): Jack’s “reward” is to walk the Earth, being barred from both Hell and Heaven
John Constantine: sells one-third of his soul to each of three major demons so they squabble among themselves over it.
Various lucky idiot folktales: sell their soul for a bowl of porridge, then make themselves so stupidly annoying the Devil doesn’t want them after all
Fanden og Futen: Humorous Norwegian folktale. The Devil shows up to call a tax collector to Hell, because everyone keeps saying “Damn you” to the tax collector. The tax collector quips “If you did whatever anyone said, you’d have to let me go, too.” The Devil is amused by the point, but retorts that nobody else gets damned nearly as much. The two haggle to a compromise that the pair will go for a walk together, and the Devil should pursue the first person that someone says “Damn you” about and genuinely means it. They pass an old woman damning her pig for knocking over the butter-churn and a young woman damning her infant for pooping his pants, but neither of them mean it. Then a couple of peasants see the tax collector and say “Damn you” and mean it. The Devil physically grabs the tax collector by the legs and drags him off to Hell.

Vayu, the warrior god of wind
I kind of wanted to fit something about the Iranic Mairiia into my Dracula article in order to discuss the worship of warlike gods as bart of a discussion of the barbarian in relation to Paganism, and then I ran into some fun ideas about Vayu, and Indo-Iranian god of wind who was also one of the warlike deities that were worshipped by the Mairiia.
To start with, let's reintroduce the subject of the Mairiia warriors, via "Anahita: A History and Reception of the Iranian Water Goddess" by Manya Saadi-nejad (2021; p.113-114).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vaiiu here seems like an Iranian name for both the wind and a complicated character of within Zoroastrianism, perhaps the Iranic form of the Indian Vayu. On the one hand he may have been perceived as a daeva, or at least had daevic characterisitics. On the other hand, he may have received the veneration of a yazata. One of the Yashts, the Ram Yasht, is devoted to Vayu. Here Vayu is honored, is the recipient of sacrifice, and appears to Zarathustra as the one who puts the spirits of good and evil in their place and spans both worlds.
In "Witches, Whores, and Sorcerers: The Concept of Evil in Early Iran" (2011; p.155-156), S. K. Mendoza Forrest discusses another aspect of Vayu: his identity as a warrior.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Forrest notes that Vayu does share multiple epithets with Ahura Mazda, but while Ahura Mazda was regarded as a moderately-tempered creator who could also be invoked against supernatural threats, Vayu was seen as a warrior god who could be invoked in war against enemies in battle.
Back to "Anahita: A History and Reception of the Iranian Water Goddess" by Manya Saadi-nejad (2021; p.59), we also see that Vaiiu, alongside Anahita, was believed to be worshipped by some of the villains of the Avestan narrative, including Franrasyan and even Azhi Dahaka.
Tumblr media
"Mairiia", in the Avestan context, was a word sometimes to refer to these villains (p.59-60), and also as a demonic/negative adjective for "young man". Their villainy also connected to the practice of older pre-Avestan Iranic rites that involved nocturnal (chthonic) sacrifices.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vayu's warrior god status could in some way be seen, perhaps ironically, as an echo of his worship by the Mairiia as one of a number of warlike (in this context) deities, and thus an echo of older pre-Avestan tradition within the wider of body of Zoroastrianism. This aspect appears to be particularly connected to the Iranian worship of Vayu, and is less recognizable in the context of Hinduism. However, it is possible that Indra, the leader of the Devas, may have inherited warlike characteristics previously associated with Vayu.
According to Georges Dumezil in "The Destiny of the Warrior" (p.73), Vayu had an original function as warrior until later, when Indra rose to prominence in the Vedic pantheon and Vayu's warrior aspect was transferred to either Indra or Bhima, the latter a son of Vayu.
Tumblr media
Later in the same book (p.90), Dumezil asserts that there are two kinds of war god in the Rig Veda: one represented by Vayu, the other by Indra.
Tumblr media
I suppose some small aspect of this must be reflected in his appearance in Japanese Buddhism as Futen, not to be confused with Fujin. Futen appears as an old man in the garb of a military general, and is counted as a member of a group of deities collectively referred to as the Twelve Devas, or Juniten. In Japanese art, the devas (referred to as "Ten" in Japanese) are often depicted similarly wearing the garb of military generals or simply brandishing weapons. These include not only members of the Juniten but also the Shitenno, the Four Heavenly Kings.
So, all in all, Vayu, though popularly remembered mostly as a god of wind, also has a legacy as a warrior god, and perhaps that legacy still persists.

Norwegian Folktale retelling of the story ‘’Fanden and Futen’’.
The small historical context behind the Fut was that they would collect taxes and debt for local landlords, but from from the 1600′s they became the Danish-Norwegian’s king’s tax and debt collectors.
They were highly unpopular with the population.
Another fun fact is that in Danmark-Norway,  11. June and 11. December,  tax and debt collecting days were in jest called ‘’The Devil’s Birthday’’.

trigger warning for cosmic horror type shit and stabbing
y'all ever read something that's just so delicious you can't resist recording it? apologies for the iffy technical quality (minor clipping, puffs of breath against the mic, probable echo), i do not have time to pull out all the stops on the night before black friday when i work essentially retail (i'm going to sleep after i hit post, i promise). i'm just glad that my nice mic is eternally plugged into my computer for times like these lol
spoilers for chapter 25 of "Please can I be colorful and free?" by @deinacrida-weta and @reallygoodguacamole
the bit i read is under the cut
The world wobbled and the monster screamed as the pokeball hit it on the shoulder, opening with a violent red shockwave that washed through the world, pushing everyone back. Kamado worried as the energy started to rip away, pulling back and into the ball, and he watched the body crumple in on itself as Emmet got up from where the shockwave had knocked him down and knew that Beni would handle him as long as Kamado handled the monster.
The ball started to close, and for a moment Kamado thought that it had worked before energy rushed through the world again and the ball broke in half. The body was surrounded with blinding white, but Kamado did not look away. The technology had failed, but the monster was disoriented, coughing and weak, and he could end this.
He stepped forward, running, even as he heard his own people cry out to stop him and shook off hands with no care for who they belonged to as he watched Beni move to Emmet, dagger in hand, and Kamado put his sword through the monster’s throat.
A gash opened, and instead of blood, power flowed out. Time felt frozen as Kamado saw red rush into the monster’s eyes and limbs explode from its back. He watched the power race up the metal and touch his hand and he saw everything and he saw nothing and he knew—
He knew—
What did he know?
He had not been paranoid enough.
Futen Kamado screamed as he was, briefly, stretched so thin that he covered the world.
