Pollinator Garden
It is that time of the year when we have to start thinking about our little garden helpers.
Insects have been misunderstood creatures. Some are often seen as pests when in reality, they are essential to our garden and the environment. Insects promote biodiversity, provide food for animals, improve soil quality by creating burrows, and pollinate plants.
Some insects play a beneficial role in agriculture by eating aphids, whiteflies, cabbage worms, and many other harmful pests. A lot of these beneficial insects can be found in your garden and in your backyard.

We need to teach basic life skills! Gardening and cooking should be a part of school curriculum. We spend so much time focused on learning English, mathematics, history and science, but life skills aren't being taught. Let's teach kids how to manage finances and to grow and prepare food. So many kids go out into the world not knowing these things, often because their parents never learned them or because their parents were too busy working to make a living to teach them. There are so many lessons that can be taught in a garden! #gardenersofinstagram #gardeningaddict #gardener #gardeningtips #gardening #garden #growfood #teaching #education #schools #learning #livingcleanhomestead #bloomwhereyouareplanted https://www.instagram.com/p/CgiVtyKJ8WK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Grow a Green Oasis: Container Gardening for Small Spaces
Tumblr media
Do you dream of a flourishing garden but lack the space for sprawling flower beds? Don't worry! Container gardening is here to transform your tiny balcony, sunny windowsill, or fire escape into a vibrant mini-paradise.
Why Containers?
Container gardens are perfect for small spaces because they're flexible and portable. You can arrange pots to fit any nook or cranny, and move them around to chase the sun or create colorful displays. Plus, they're a low-commitment option, ideal for renters or those new to gardening.
Choosing Your Containers
Think size: Bigger pots are better for plants with deep roots, like tomatoes or peppers. Herbs and smaller flowers can thrive in cozier containers.
Drainage is key: Ensure your pots have holes at the bottom to prevent water from pooling and rotting the roots. You can add a layer of pebbles at the bottom for extra drainage.
Material matters: Plastic pots are lightweight and affordable, but clay pots breathe better and add a classic touch. Consider metal or wooden containers for a unique look, but remember they may heat up more in the sun.
Planting Power
Potting mix magic: Skip the garden soil! Use a good quality potting mix specifically designed for containers. It's lightweight, drains well, and has nutrients to nourish your plants.
Picking your players: Select plants that thrive in containers. Herbs like basil, mint, and parsley are fantastic choices. Cherry tomatoes, peppers, and lettuce are great for a veggie container. Flowers like petunias, marigolds, and pansies add a pop of color.
Planting party: Fill your pot with potting mix, leaving some space at the top. Gently loosen the roots of your plant and place it in the pot. Fill in the remaining space with more mix, making sure the plant sits at the same level it did in its original container. Water gently until water runs out the drainage holes.
Keeping Your Container Thriving
Sun seekers: Most plants need at least 6 hours of sunlight a day. Pay attention to your space and choose plants that suit the amount of sun it gets.
Watering wisdom: Water regularly, but avoid drowning your plants. The frequency will depend on the plant type, pot size, and weather. Stick your finger in the soil – if it feels dry to the first knuckle, it's watering time.
Feeding frenzy: Give your container plants a boost with a fertilizer formulated for container gardens. Follow the instructions on the package for dosage and frequency.
Top Tips for Tiny Gardens
Vertical veggie walls: Utilize vertical space with hanging planters or tiered shelves to grow herbs, lettuce, or cascading flowers.
Recycle and reuse: Repurpose old buckets, tins, or even teacups as quirky planters. Just ensure they have drainage holes.
Mix and match: Play with colors, textures, and heights for a visually interesting display. Trailing plants like vining vegetables or ivy can soften the edges of pots and add a whimsical touch.
With a little planning and these simple tips, container gardening can transform your small space into a flourishing haven. So grab your favorite pots, pick some vibrant plants, and get ready to watch your tiny garden blossom!

Conditions that disrupt normal plant growth are called plant diseases. These diseases disturb the growth, function, normal structure, and other activities in plants. Usually, some casual agents cause these disturbances in plants. These agents can be infectious or noninfectious.

Hylotelephium telephium (Atropurpureum Group) 'Xenox' (Syn. For the far easier to say and write Sedum ‘Xenox’) (Stonecrop). Today’s gorgeous #oneadayplant . Larger Sedum, now Hylotelephium (I’m not happy about that either) are excellent late season herbaceous perennials that are incredibly popular with bees and butterflies. 🐝 🦋 . Foliage on ‘Xenox’ and the more commonly seen variety of ‘Matrona’ is fleshy and a rich plum-purple colour. Neither flower as voluminously as green leaved forms, but do well enough and the foliage colour is worth being seen in its own right as well as a contrast to the flower. Pictured when fully open, they are a soft, shell pink colour, having opened a richer, pinky-red. . They die back to the ground or a small rosette of succulent foliage over the winter leaving the dried flower stems to persist over the winter. These are pretty and offer a little protection to the crown of the plant from snow and frost as well as seed for smaller bird species. . Compact and good for the front of a border, getting to 30cm (1’) or a little more in height and 45cm (18”) in diameter. Really needs a sunny spot and decent drainage to do well. I like this variety and the more colourfully flowered ‘Xenox Yellow’. . A good partner for Carex buchananii I always feel. I’d recommend planting spring bulbs around them to give you something to look at before they regrow. Scilla siberica, Puschkinia scilloides var. libanotica and Crocus tommasinianus look good when partnered with the emerging foliage in spring. . #sedum #sedumxenox #hylotelephiumxenox #xenox #foliage #herbaceous #perennial #sunlover #iplantsman #gardening #gardeningtips #plantingdesign #pollinators #polliantorgarden #pollinatorplants #plants #gardenista #gardeningaddict #stonecrop #pink #flowers #colourcontrast #autumn #latesummerinterest #bulbs #crocus #scilla #puschkinia (at Crowborough, East Sussex) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGuhN2XgJtd/?igshid=qrtz1yif6y7i

Pollinator Garden – Important for Plant Life and Insect Life
There is a substantial decline in pollinators. If you own a garden or build one, creating a pollinator garden is essential for growing fruits, vegetables, and flowers.
