Earning $157.1 million worldwide on an $80 million budget back in 2010, The Book of Eli from Rogue One writer Gary Whitta was a sizeable hit, and continuing the Star Wars connections a small screen prequel series is about to hit the marketplace starring John Boyega, fresh off 'They Cloned Tyrone' opposite Jamie Foxx and with sci-fi romance 'The Freshening' from director Cathy Yan up ahead. https://youtu.be/VNPaYCIklD4 The neo-Western Book of Eli movie takes place 30 years after a nuclear catastrophe caused an ecocide. It revolves around Eli (Washington), a nomad who fights his way across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America while protecting a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity’s salvation. Details about the TV series are sketchy, but I hear it is set 30 years prior to the events in the film, which would put it around the time of the nuclear event or its immediate aftermath. This marks one of the highest-profile, star-driven, IP-based packages to hit the premium TV marketplace since the end of the Hollywood strikes. While there have been a handful of deals so far, buying has been slow out of the gate. It is expected to pick up in early 2024, with The Book of Eli an example of the caliber of auspices and premise a TV package needs to stand out. Just wondering how everyone is doing this evening!

Going to do my best to get an update out tonight, but as with everything, I probably won’t! My stress has caused my attention span to be unusually short. I’ve hopped around so much lately from one thing to another, but the good thing is my interest in seeing this written isn’t gone. I just need to focus!

Also found out today I could be pursuing a second degree in game design for free through my job and I’m trying to figure out what that would mean for my dream of writing with Neil at Naughty Dog one day...

It's an interesting thought, that Rogue One - the ultimate standalone film that fed into the 1977 classic A New Hope - could have had a thematic sequel, but in another life that could have been the case. Gary Whitta and Chris Weitz had thoughts of a TV series in the days before Disney Plus that would have shown the galaxy after the fall of the Empire as Rebel forces tracked down Imperial war criminals and brought them to justice. Gary Whitta and Chris Weitz conceptualized a TV series that would focus on the rebels after the fall of the Empire – a “Mossad-style rebel team” that would track down fleeing Imperial war criminals in the galaxy following Palpatine’s demise and the destruction of the second Death Star. By the sounds of it, this would have held on to the more grounded tone that worked so well in Rogue One and explored how the Rebel Alliance and New Republic worked together to keep hold of their desperately-won peace. While this concept would certainly have been interesting, producing this would have meant foregoing the creation of Andor, one of Disney’s most intricate and acclaimed Star Wars stories to date. While Screen Rant believe this would have cancelled out the creation of Andor, it's post-Return of the Jedi setting equally steps on the toes of Favloni's post-Empire Mandalorian era, but either way the thought of a hard-hitting death squad taking down the war criminals of the Empire is a tantalising concept.
