Having been watching Peter Jackson's epic documentary series and just absolutely love it. For anyone who grew up listening to The Beatles (it's also how I learned to play the guitar pretty much), it's an absolute treat. The banter, the creative process, the in-jokes - Jackson's done an amzing job. Then The Big Issue I bought down The Strand has a great article on it too - I love Martin Freeman's relating how he watched it - 'I was grinning like a fool'. I Beatles per me sono sempre stati un’ascolto “singolare”, ascoltavo le canzoni più famose, in genere i singoli, ma anche quelle che non erano finite in quei bei dischetti neri, però famosissime. Tranne Let It Be, li ho tutti su Cd, quindi skippavo. Prendendo per esempio Abbey Road, passavo da Come Together a Here Comes The Sun , da Maxwell’s Silver Hammer a Something, diciamo. I Want You (She’s So Heavy), non riuscivo ad ascoltarla, probabilmente li associavo alla melodia giocosa e fresca delle canzoni più pop. Ho iniziato ad ascoltare Abbey Road in loop mode, intervallandolo alla visione del documentario Get Back (se siete appassionati dei Beatles, della storia della musica, di strumenti musicali, di apparecchiature da studio di registrazione - armatevi di fazzoletti di carta in abbondanza - tutti gli altri si astengano, dura più di otto ore vi annoierete). Beh da qualche giorno non riesco a togliermi dalla testa proprio i 7.47” di I Want You, il riff blues ripetuto, la melodia vocale, il rumore bianco, il sorprendente finale… Non lo so, è come essere catapultati fuori da un’auto senza farsi male. Ho parlato di I Want You, ma il discorso vale per tutte le canzoni, compreso il medley. L’avrò ascoltato una decina di volte tutto, penso che nelle prossime settimane arriverò a 100, e lo farò anche con il Bianco, Let It Be e Sgt. Pepper. Quindi il consiglio è di ascoltare questo album per rendersi conto dell’arte di questi ragazzi, che oh non la scopro io di certo, ma che ho scoperto per me è voglio condividere.
