written for a prompt from georgethewriter: There is a boy you know, a friend of yours, but he only lives deep in your mind. Describe him, how he lives as just a thought but is alive all the same.

If I close my eyes, I can see him. He follows the pathways of my neurons and makes his bed where my skull meets my spine. He is a thousand variations of himself, living in a thousand different stories. I close my eyes and enter his world, laughing at his jokes, which are always funnier than the ones they tell in real life.

He whispers the answers to my math homework and reads the same books as me. He loves me, even though he has seen my innermost thoughts, the secrets I lock in Pandora’s boxes.

When the storms roll in and my eyes cry rivers, he takes my hand and soothes me. He promises he will never leave, and he will always love me. It is only fitting that I should love a figment of my imagination.
