Mitch English said he doesn’t know how he’ll feel once he walks inside that courtroom this week, but he said he’s glad the moment is finally here after the trial was delayed by months due to COVID-19.“My life has been on hold,” English said. English said even though getting justice for his son has been put on hold because of the pandemic, in a way it’s been a blessing in disguise.“I think each time, it gave me a thicker skin, got me ready for it, that I can prepare for this and be ready for it. It gave me more time to meet with my therapist and deal with it,” English said. His son Andrew “Sawyer” English was shot and killed in June 2019. Prosecutors said it was George Watson who pulled the trigger and then left for Florida, where he and his girlfriend were caught by authorities.Mitch English, who now lives in Florida, said he was hit with several emotions when he found out what happened.“Pandemonium, confusion, sadness,” English said. “It was a very extremely cowardly act that George Watson did shooting my son through the window in his back three times and not even facing the guy, and so that angers me.”English said the last conversation he had with his son has helped him deal with his grief.“One of the last things he ever said to me face to face was that he loved me,” English said. “I think I was given that from God, that moment, because that’s what helped me through a lot of this. I don’t hate George Watson, I hate what he did. I’ve not forgiven him, but I honestly want to forgive the guy.”Jury selection for the trial is scheduled for Monday and the trial should begin on Tuesday.Stay with KOCO 5 for the latest.
