#tbt It‘s my dad’s birthday month and wanted to throw back this little tribute to him. Pulling out all of my old records today, but I’m curious: What music of your parents have you taken with you today? 💽 . . . When I was in high school, I stumbled on my dad's old record collection. I looked through it, and I guess a part of me wanted to know what kind of person he was... What kind of music he was into. . That's when I discovered records by Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, Hall & Oates and Heart... I was instantly fascinated by this whole other world of artists that had come before me! . I've been rediscovering my love for music as of late. It's tough to write about it when you're in an environment that doesn't surround you with the things you love or things that inspire you... Back at it — and it’s been a while 🤘 I first began this music journo journey almost six years ago. The music lover in me just wanted to uncover the stories of the artists I loved and looked up to. As I’ve taken a bit of a break this past summer at home to realign myself with my real, true and honest intentions as an artist, writer, creator and musician myself, I’ve had to think about the content I want to put forth in my future — and take myself seriously with what I want to do with all of this! After 1000s of shows and diving into photog/film this year, I know these are all things that will only add to my future. Solidifying my “vision�� is the hardest part — but I’m slowly manifesting that dream with a little more clarity every day. Also, got my #emo on last night and it was SO MUCH FUN (I sometimes forget how much fun you can have at a show when you work them all — it’s a special thing to enjoy a real community, meet new friends and run into so many familiar faces). My first day at Peet’s, I was appalled at the idea of cleaning floors or wiping down walls. “I’m too smart for this,” I told myself. “I’m such a princess!” “Do I even know how to mop?” I tried to convince myself to quit.

I’ve realized that now that I can say that I’ve cleaned trash at Peet’s, getting people’s coffee or doing other dirty work is the least of my worries.

I’d be glad to be a damn “sandwich girl” or intern. As long as I have my first foot in the door, that’s all that matters.

Sometimes, I feel like I work too hard at my job. As a creative, it frustrates me to know I haven't been progressing as much as I'd like to within my music and writing. But I know I'm in a period of "absorption." I'm learning more and more every day about what it means to be a 22-year-old girl thrust into the real world--the world and my place in it. This time is for me to figure out what exactly it is that I want to say...
