The First thing that should be done is ensuring that proper investigative protocols are followed, both at the crime scene and the lab, to prevent errors like this from happening again.

Secondly, Prosecutors (and Defence) should be examined for Personal Biases before being allowed on a Case. Or just... Figure out What was Up with Mignini and try not to let anyone else Like That be involved in Law. At Least make the cases of people Like That go through some form of Peer Review before being allowed to Proceed Back into Court.

Amanda Knox was proven innoccent of murder - so why did she spend nearly four years in an Italian prison? After her flatemate Meredith Kercher’s body was discovered covered in stab wounds, Knox was taken for questioning by the Italian police. Knox claims she was bullied and hit by the police, with no interpreter or attorney present, until five days later then they coerced a confession from her. At her trial, prosecutor Giuliano Mignini depicted Knox as a sex-crazed psychopath and the murder as rough sex gone wrong. Following his lead, the press had a field day spreading allegations about “Foxy Knoxy”. 

Knox and former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito both appealed, but it took years - and a more expert review of the DNA evidence used to convict her - to exonerate them both.

A MUST, MUST, MUST WATCH!!!

People REALLY need to watch the full 2016 documentary on Netflix entitled 'Amanda Knox'.

A corrupt/incompetent Italian lead prosecutor/investigator, Giuliano Mignini, and his equally corrupt/incompetent police force in Italy literally omits/embellishes evidence, feeding the unsuspecting media which then publishes anything and everything this police department contrives in order to make this girl (and her boyfriend) out to be an absolute MONSTER! All the while, this same police force both hid facts and never bothered to investigate any of the other leads proving this girl's innocence.

IMAGINE. Being that young woman in a foreign country with a corrupt police force hell-bent on making her out to be the villain, simply because they wanted to pretend they were up to the task of catching a killer! My heart goes out to her parents--how horrifying--completely unable to do anything to protect their daughter. Just had to watch it all unfold from America. Powerless.

And even after their poor crime investigation skills (e.g. cross-contamination of crime scene) which nullified/illegitimatized the validity of evidence used to convict her... And after police force coercion techniques and obvious deceit cover-ups, this Italian city prosecutor/investigator, Giuliano Mignini, continues to try to keep her in prison within future trials just so he does not have to admit his own incompetency and corruption.

TRULY TRAGIC. Feel for this poor girl!

Studying abroad, barely got to know her new room mate for like weeks before she was murdered and because it was international news, this Italian city police department needed a patsy due to being too novice/inexperienced to catch the actual killer! The prosecutor/investigator, Giuliano Mignini, should be put in prison for the same number of years he falsely got this girl and her boyfriend put in prison for. Instead, this sicko prosecutor/investigator continues to climb the professional ladder! Today a magistrate (i.e. judge within Italian court of law), no less. DISGUSTING.

Luckily, both Knox and her boyfriend were exonerated by Italy's highest court on March 27, 2015. And a final charge against Knox for claiming to have been hit by a police officer whom then pressed charges claiming slander, finally Knox was also acquitted of this charge on January 14, 2016.

I know this isn't really on brand for this blog, but I just finished the Amanda Knox documentary on Netflix, and from the very bottom of my heart, fuck Giuliano Mignini and Nick Pisa. They both personify the absolute worst aspects of their professions, and they disgust me.

Underlying Issues with The Case (There are Many)

There were Many Things Going Wrong with this Case

One was the Blatant Mishandling of Evidence and the Crime Scene itself, such as leaving a piece of evidence unattended in the room for unreasonably long time, and one officer using dirty gloves when it did get eventually collected [13]. This whole case is Wrought with issues similar to this.

Another Issue is the Clear Bias that the Prosecution (ESPECIALLY Mignini) had towards Knox. This Guy was Absolutely CONVINCED that Knox Had to be the killer. And not even for logical reasons? Mignini has a History of Accusing people of Satanic Sex Rituals, and Knox was no Exception [9, 13].

Additionally there is the Mistreatment of Knox, both by the Italian Police (While in Police Custody & in Prison [9, 12, 14]) as well as the Media, who demonized her and focused in on her to the point of forgetting about the actual Victim of this S*xual Assault/Murder Case, Meredith Kercher [10, 13, 14].

I’m watching a rerun 20/20 about Amanda Knox and it’s crazy to me that what with the sympathetic American news reports about her seeming over the top and the Italian reports totally demonizing her I really leaned towards guilty with her... 

Then I stayed in Italy for about a year and learned more about the media there and the conduct of Giuliano Mignini in general.

Da história de um dos políticos mais famosos do país europeu ao comportamento de grupos mafiosos, passando pelo polêmico assassinato de uma jovem estudante britânica em terras italianas. Esses são alguns dos roteiros relacionados ao país da bota que podem ser vistos na Netflix.

Em novembro de 2016, estreou um documentário sobre o ex-primeiro-ministro da Itália Silvio Berlusconi, um dos personagens mais controversos dos últimos 20 anos na política internacional. “My Way” (“Meu Caminho”, em tradução livre) tem direção de Antongiulio Panizzi e é baseado no livro homônimo do jornalista norte-americano Alan Friedman. Entre as mais de 100 horas de entrevistas, concedidas ao longo de 18 meses, Berlusconi fala sobre temas como escândalos sexuais, acusações de corrupção contra ele e a amizade com o presidente da Rússia, Vladimir Putin.

Por sua vez, uma das produções italianas mais emblemáticas no Netflix é o documentário “Amanda Knox”, que conta sobre um dos crimes mais midiáticos da história recente do país. Lançado em setembro do ano passado, o longa é de autoria dos cineastas norte-americanos Rod Blackhurst e Brian McGinn e narra o assassinato da estudante britânica Meredith Kercher e seus desdobramentos por meio de quatro perspectivas diferentes: da norte-americana Amanda Knox, do seu ex-namorado Raffaele Sollecito, do promotor italiano Giuliano Mignini e do jornalista do “Daily Mail” Nick Pisa.

Knox e Sollecito foram acusados de matar a britânica e chegaram a ser condenados e presos, mas acabaram absolvidos. Já na categoria “moda italiana”, o documentário “Franca: Chaos and Creation”, dirigido por Francesco Carrozzini, traz a história da lendária editora da “Vogue Italia” Franca Sozzani, morta em 22 de dezembro de 2016.

Entre as séries italianas, há a recém-lançada “Suburra”

Inspirada em um livro homônimo, a atração, que está em sua primeira temporada, conta a história de três jovens, Aureliano, Spadino, e Gabriele, que tentam, cada um a sua maneira, sobreviver em meio às disputas de poder em Roma.

A série explora as ações da máfia, as rotinas de famílias ciganas, traficantes de drogas, políticos, nobres e do Vaticano para garantirem seu quinhão no projeto de construção de um porto em Ostia, distrito litorâneo de Roma.

Para 2018, a Netflix já iniciou a produção de mais duas séries originais. A primeira, de quatro episódios, contará a rotina dos jogadores da Juventus, primeiro time de futebol a protagonizar uma atração feita pela empresa norte-americana.

Já a segunda, chamada “Baby”, será um drama inspirado em fatos reais sobre o escândalo “Baby Squillo”, uma trama que envolveu políticos, advogados, empresários e até mesmo o esposo da neta de Benito Mussolini em um esquema de prostituição juvenil ocorrido em 2014. Com oito episódios, a série, produzida pela Fabula Pictures, tem roteiro escrito por um grupo chamado “Grams”, que inclui Antonio Le Fosse, Eleonora Trucchi, Marco Raspanti, Giacomo Mazzariol e Re Salvador.

Nacida en Estados Unidos, cuando tenía veinte años decidió ir a Italia a estudiar y vivir experiencias únicas y divertidas, pero un hecho le cambió la vida por completo. Ella es Amanda Knox.

En 2007, Knox, fue acusada junto con su entonces novio, Raffaele Sollecito, de asesinar a su compañera de cuarto Meredith Kercher, una británica de veinte años. Inmediatamente la opinión pública y los medios estallaron en comentarios debido que la escena del crimen era realmente impactante: Kercher fue violada y apuñalada 46 veces, una de ellas en la garganta.

Rápidamente Amanda Knox se hizo la principal sospechosa ya que fue acusada por el fiscal de Perugia, Giuliano Mignini, por reaccionar inesperadamente ante el asesinato besándose “inapropiadamente” con su novio en la escena del crimen. Se la describió como una psicópata obsesionada con el sexo e incluso fue llamada “Foxy Knoxy” (Zorrita Knoxy).

En pocos días la declararon culpable junto con su novio y fueron condenados a 26 años de prisión. Además también fue acusado un amigo de la víctima, Rudy Guede, traficante marfileño, por estar en la escena del crimen.

Pero no todo termina acá, si bien en los primeros tiempos todo parecía haberse resuelto aún quedaban muchas pistas por aclararse. Es así que tras cuatro años de prisión la pareja fue absuelta por falta de evidencias claras. En 2013 cambian las versiones de los hechos y el Tribunal de Apelación de Florencia los vuelve a condenar y comenzaron nuevamente los juicios y las presiones de la prensa y la sociedad.

Finalmente, en 2015, se los vuelve a absolver y la pareja queda libre. Ella volvió a Seattle y se convirtió en una estrella mediática, entrevistas, programas, 4 millones de dólares por contar sus versiones en un libro y un documental en Netflix. Él se convirtió en asesor en programas de crímenes sin resolver y partícipe el documental de Netflix.

Un juicio con idas y vueltas y diferentes versiones que termina con un final abierto, ¿quién mató a Meredith Kercher?
