KICK THE MACHINE

The way we see technology today is reminiscent of the way we saw man not many hundreds of years ago, as slaves serving the divine purpose of a higher being. When the machine produces things that does not facilitate us - that we don’t need - it expands its agency outside its given purpose – it produces a glitch. The glitch is by definition unintentional, it is an accidental crack, an act of ‘pataphysics which expand the machine’s perception and renders it a more complex being.

We cannot create glitches, we can only embrace them when they happen, and design spaces who allows for other uses than whats implicit in the code– make every wall open source and always strive to come with the most surreal solutions to the problems we are faced with. We need to – in any situation – kick a crack in the wall and make that crack inhabitable, then create a crack in that inhabitation and so on. As soon as we permanently establish a wall or an eidolon as truth/reality we subsequently obstruct the expansion of our perspective - our becoming - and hence diminish us and our possibilities. The self-assembling wall is more stagnant than the dead wall. The constant cracking and the constant ruin-making of our walls is the only practice that is permanently inhabitable since it is the only practice that facilitates a constant becoming; an ever-changing ever-evolving identity - which is the only permanent form of identity.

If we avoid the pitfalls of infrastructural determinism and collaborate with other kinds of agencies the tools for automation does pose the possibility of a radical de-specialization and de-hierarchisation of our profession and our society, opening up for a ‘pataphysical architecture of endless serendipities, exponentially speeding up our perspective-collisions, initiating inter-special, post-anthropocentric, post-artificial super-identities.
