#gloucesters being the sweetest couple

8 May 2023 The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester join the Big Help Out at the Coptic Orthodox Church. They received a figure from His Eminence Archbishop Angaelos of London and met the community gathered to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

Day 28 - Villafranca - Vega de Valcarce What a lovely walk today. About 15 kms got me almost to the bottom of tomorrow's 650m climb. I don't understand how the countryside went from the warmer microclimate of Ponferrada to mountains, streams and waterfalls without a significant change in elevation - and the return of bells on the cows and sheep reminiscent of the Pyrenees. I found a delightful albergue with the sweetest owners, and once again scored a private room - pretty soon I'll have to start calling this an executive Camino. The even better part is, she is Italian and made dinner tonight - her grandmother's pasta bolognese recipe. A lovely change. She and her partner told the story of their Camino romance 8 years ago. The evening ended with young Adam from Gloucester, England who I met weeks ago playing guitar and singing. I've noticed lately that some people in albergues actually blow dry their hair, use hair product and make up. I'm happy if I remember to comb my hair. I can't imagine those being priority items to carry, although I expect I will spring for some makeup before going to London. Yesterday I booked 3 nights in Finisterre, in a pension that apparently has an ocean view. Also planning a couple of days at the beach in Muxia before flying to London. I'm sure the change of pace will be welcome. Lots of pilgrims I've met have husbands, wives, adult kids joining them in Sarria for the last 100 kms. I can't help wishing Brian were joining me - in person. His 63 birthday would have been tomorrow, September 20. A rant and a couple of pieces of useless information: Cyclists on the Camino - there must be a better way. I know they have every right to be here, but it can be dangerous. Using a bell would help, as would calling out and letting walkers know they're there and how many are in their group - but no - except for very few, no one does that. They're just there - zooming past. It's especially tricky on paths where one is walking all over the place looking for the least rocky spots, or on the downhills that are already difficult and you're focused on remaining upright. In some areas there are two paths and in some places bikes can travel on the road, but it's not enough. It's become worse in past days because the number of cycling tours is increasing as we get closer to Santiago. There are some great, modern, even attractive aseaos on to the Camino, but the presence of TP, soap and a means to dry one's hands is still, at times, optional. I followed advice and brought 2 pairs of insoles. It's saved my feet on a few occasions.

Eva – 9 month old female German Shepherd Cross

This is gorgeous, super friendly, young Eva who is a 9 month old German Shepherd Cross! Eva is currently being fostered with Aunty Kim and family including a young toddler and other dog in Gloucester. She has settled extremely well and has shown herself to be a very affectionate dog. Eva has just got the sweetest nature and loves everyone and everything. As with all dogs her age, she needs an adopter who is willing to spend the time to shape her into the amazing adult dog that she is destined to be.

Eva lived with one of our rescuers in Romania since she was a couple of months old and is used to a home environment. She is living with other dogs and is very playful with her doggie companions! The male dog Eva lives with is a dominant dog and Eva happily gets along with him so she is an amenable, non-dominant dog. Eva is good with children and loves the young girl in her foster home. She could be homed with younger children in a dog savvy household.

Eva is currently around 8kg and will possibly be around 12kg when fully grown. We think she’s a Greyhound or Whippet crossed with a German Shepherd as she’s much smaller than a Shepherd and has a Lurcher-esque character. She’s great on a training lead and needs a bit more work with recall before she can be fully off lead.

Eva is a very playful and friendly girl, she is very intelligent so needs a home that is willing to put work into training – clicker training or agility would be perfect for her. Eva is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and deflead and has a passport.
