Ela é o símbolo máximo da adoração dos argentinos por Diego Armando Maradona, falecido nesta quarta-feira, aos 60 anos. Mas por que os argentinos idolatram tanto o ex-jogador?

Para sociólogo Rogério Baptistini, Maradona traduz o que ele chama de “argentinidade”, o sentimento de amor pelo país e traço do caráter nacional. “As dificuldades da vida dos trabalhadores e dos humildes ganham nos jogadores de futebol uma expressão épica. Maradona, sobretudo para a multidão dos descamisados de todas as épocas, era um pibe que corria com a pelota pelo potrero. Um igual, cuja vida de glamour e drama, era acompanhada como a uma novela”, diz o professor da Universidade Mackenize.

“Num universo social e político com poucas possibilidades de ascensão social pelo trabalho, figuras que canalizam as emoções populares assumem proporções grandiosas. Gardel, Perón, Evita, Maradona. Cada um deles sintetiza a seu modo a argentinidade”, completa.

O jornalista argentino Martín Goldbart usa a expressão “super-herói” para definir a trajetória do craque. Depois de liderar a seleção argentina sub-20, campeã mundial da categoria em 1979, ele foi reinar no Napoli, no sul da Itália. Foram dois campeonatos italianos, entre outros títulos. No imaginário argentino, a conquista da Copa de 1986 ocupa o espaço mais nobre da estante.

“No futebol, foi aquele que nos deu mais alegrias. Ele nos deu um Mundial, o máximo para nós e aquilo que é tão difícil alcançar. Ele fazia com que os argentinos se sentissem defendidos e representados. Foi um super-herói, com um lado bom e um lado mau, como todo mundo. Quando colocava a capa, ele era o máximo. Foi nosso Superman”, diz o profissional do periódico La Nación. “Ele saiu do nada para o topo do mundo. Isso dá esperança a todos. Ele será um mito cada vez maior”, opina. 

As imperfeições que demonstrou ao longo da vida, como a dependência química, fizeram com que Maradona se aproximasse ainda mais do povo argentino. Essa é a opinião do psicanalista Christian Dunker. “As imperfeições que ele não conseguia esconder fizeram com que ele se tornasse acessível às pessoas comuns. Ele era herói e antiherói. No fundo, somos todos como ele. Isso torna a paixão de reconhecimento e de gratidão mais intensa do que em relação aos heróis de plástico, produzidos e baseados nos scripts que temos hoje em dia”, opina o professor do Instituto de Psicologia da USP. 

O contexto da Copa do Mundo de 1986, quando Maradona se consagrou, é importante, lembra a publicitária argentina Vanina Andrea Pericoli. Quatro anos antes, a Argentina havia perdido um conflito armado com a Inglaterra pela posse das Ilhas Malvinas. O saldo final da guerra foi a recuperação do arquipélago pelo Reino Unido e a morte de 649 soldados argentinos e 255 britânicos. Com a derrota, caiu também a junta militar que governava a Argentina. “Ele trouxe aquela taça tão desejada em 1986, após tanta tristeza com as Malvinas 82. Ele nos tocou do coração a cada um dos argentinos, vibramos, rimos e choramos de emoção. Não é pouca coisa que alguém te faz sentir tantos sentimentos na pele e no coração”, diz Pericoli.

A mística de Maradona se tornou mais forte depois da aposentadoria como jogador, em 1997. Tudo o que Maradona dizia ou fazia era notícia. No estádio do Boca Juniors, ele definiu sua própria vida com uma metáfora. “La pelota no se mancha” (A bola não fica suja). Foi uma forma de dizer que os inúmeros problemas de sua vida pessoal não interferiam na sua obra dentro de campo.

Luis Fernando Ayerbe, professor aposentado de Relações Internacionais da Unesp, explica que Maradona conseguiu se manter em evidência mesmo depois do final de sua carreira. “Ele sempre se comportou como uma estrela, interagindo com personalidades internacionais. Ele estava sempre presente no imaginário das pessoas. Isso aumentou sua projeção”, diz o especialista. “Outro fator importante foi o posicionamento político. Ele se aliou a figuras da política sul-americana, o que aumentou sua popularidade. Normalmente, os jogadores de futebol não falam sobre isso. Por conta da sua trajetória, ele parecia um semideus, um herói”, completa. 

Anos depois da aposentadoria, nasceu a Igreja Maradoniana. É um templo de verdade, localizado em Rosario, com seguidores cadastrados em vários países. Argentina, Espanha e México são os países com o maior número de fiéis. Os fiéis resolveram considerar a data de nascimento de Maradona (30 de outubro de 1960) como o seu Natal. O calendário começa a ser contado a partir do nascimento de Maradona, A.D. e D.D. ou seja, Antes de Diego e Depois de Diego. Outra data importante é a Noche Buena (22 de junho), algo semelhante à Páscoa, quando El Pibe fez os gols contra a Inglaterra em 1986, na conquista do Mundial do México daquele ano.
