(Once again recommend clicking for bigger view) And now finally my first big project for the year is finished, a commission for my nerd @shocktrooper-snaxx of his namesake golem pilot! I lost track of how many hours I put into this honestly and looking at it now after being finished I really don’t know how I managed to do it. 11′‘x14′‘ multiliners, Copic markers and Derwent Coloursoft pencils on vellum bristol. I’ve gotten a couple inquiries already so I’m looking into making prints of both this and the ink-only version.

Just the inks, no colors.

(Highly recommend clicking for fullview) Inks for my @shocktrooper-snaxx are finally finished! Leave it to him to make me tackle a project as big and as complex as this. Even though it WILL be colored soon, I always like to approach my inks as being their own entity and I want them strong enough that they can be as much a standalone piece. Added a couple of detail shots too for good measure.

Sorry for spamming your feeds with progress shots of this project today but I’ve gotten a ton of headway on it and I’m getting pretty excited for how it’s coming out.

Finished golem pilot concept sheet for @shocktrooper-snaxx! This is very much a collaborative effort and a result of a lot of bouncing ideas back and forth. And as I mentioned, we both have opinions regarding the gas mask skin in game and how it doesn’t allow room for magnificent ears. Also I myself thought the visor needed to be opened up a bit with minimal blind spots, as visibility is of utmost importance to a golem pilot. The various attachments on his armor bracing make it so his movements translate to the golem suit better without having to use augments or implants.

Ear coverings are detachable and connect to helm via metal gasket rings.

Coverings made with chem-sealed fabric and reinforced with rigid leather.

Visor lifts up.

Helm connects with metal collar on suit to create a seal.

So my camera makes my ink look terrible but I figured there would be some out there curious to see what my blocked-in shadows look like before I start adding in actual linework.

Oh yeah and here’s more progress on this project. It’s finally getting to the stage where I’m losing track of which pencil lines go where.

I admit it isn't as pleasing to look at as the raw sketch but it's necessary for me to go over with rough ballpoint and erase so I can transfer it without getting too confused.

However this means I can finally lightbox and transfer this bad boy and then things will really start to get interesting.

Been working like crazy today getting this first big project of the year off the ground for @shocktrooper-snaxx The piece is going to be big (11''x14''), fully colored, and is going to heavily feature the inside of Snaxx's custom big golem suit, so that means a lot of preliminary visdev is in order, including modifying and tweaking his pilot suit a bit to better work with the ideas we have. Going to try to make these concepts look fairly clean and coherent so that other artists he may commission will have additional reference material to use.

Next up will be redesigning his pilot helmet to actually work with his ears because we have opinions about the in-game model.

Was watching vids and researching mech/exosuits in real life yesterday to get some good inspiration for visdev with @shocktrooper-snaxx and how his Peacemaker character's custom golem suit works. Cockpit and control stuff first. Extremely rough and bare bones since this is the first pass, we’ll be steadily working through details and it’ll start getting more in-depth.

An in-game gold commission (yes I do those!) for a friend @shocktrooper-snaxx hot off the scanner, his golem pilot raring to go on another field assignment.

Ended up transferring and inking @shocktrooper-snaxx‘s commission today, I’m a bit too tired now so this will have to suffice for Inktober #11 unless I want to make something extra for my weekend. He will be colored in the coming days!
