This one has been in my mind for a while now. Quite some time ago I discovered this very well-written and detailed on-going Ahsoka x Barriss story on Archive of Our Own. It certainly stood out from the rest that I've ever read.

However, at one point it was sealed during its writing and to this day remains away from public view as a "mystery work". I couldn't but notice how your name is among the four maintainers of the story, so that is why I am reaching out to you.

The other listed maintainers of the said story are: lesbians_and_puns, googlesentmehere and ReneeThaGay. If that helps you narrow it down.

Are you able to tell what the status of it is, or share any information? What I wouldn't give to be able drown into it once more and forget about everything else.

I’m sure you can message them for more info or shoot them an ask, as of now, i’m actually not aware of its current status other than the fic still being a work in progress/on pause! Kamilah always looks beautiful. It’s just kind of… her brand. One of those immutable facts of nature and the universe; like the sky being blue or vampires being real.

Still, Nadya has no idea why she can’t think of anything else at the moment.

And she does.

Maybe that’s why.

Her lips are soft where they graze over Nadya’s middle. There’s nothing inherently lustful about the act — maybe that’s why she can’t stop watching. Not that she’d look away if it were something to do with lust but… she can’t quite put her finger on it. Crapola.

Hot breath whispers along her skin. Barely even an exhale; definitely not something made of words or thoughts. It’s almost unconscious in how easily Kamilah just… pretends to breathe against her.

“Why do you do that?” Nadya finds herself asking before she can be stopped. Not that she knows who would have stopped her, but it would have been nice to have the option for the record.

Kamilah pauses. That breath gone in an instant — like a candle snuffed out by a strong wind.

Then she gently rests the bottom of her defined chin right below her human’s navel. Smooth skin like a stone worn at over the centuries until, like the rest of her, even her jaw is polished and perfect.

When Nadya inhales (because some of them don’t breathe on a whim, thank you very much) Kamilah allows her head to rise and fall with the body beneath her. The movement drags their skin together; it tickles the soft ghosting of darker hair that trails down from her belly button and cuts off around the curve of her stomach.

“Are you asking why I’m kissing you, Nadya?” Kamilah seems genuinely curious, too. Arched eyebrow and everything and oh no no that’s — shoot — that’s not what she meant!

“No no, I mean the thing.”

“Use your words.”

She lets her head fall back against the plush pillows with a groan. She’s trying, darn it!

“The thing —” — trying again and this time with a wave of her hand in no particular direction, as if that will somehow mime her thoughts — “— the uh… the breathing thing. I was just wondering why you seem to pretend to breathe more when we’re like… this.”

A smirk quirks just so at the corner of Kamilah’s lips.

“When we are intimate? You can say the word, it certainly wouldn’t be the foulest of language you’ve used in this bed.”

Oh don’t remind her… “I was tipsy. That doesn’t count. And you’re avoiding the question!”

Judging by the impressed look that flickers over Kamilah’s face in the darkness, she hadn’t expected Nadya to notice. It doesn’t last long but it’s there and you bet your butt she’s taking it as a victory.

THE DUCHESS (as featured in Destiny II part 1, Chapters 25-28) *spoilers for Book 4 ahead!

In her final moments, Nadya did give The Duchess back all of her memories.

She may have died in a Feral body, but she was of sound mind―gone mad from starvation, isolation, and the hunger, sure―but more a vampire than a true Feral in the end.

She was at peace.

Ok so let’s do Choice because I’m a sucker for the psycho (for each other and just in general) murderers. Let’s also do Destiny II Part I

SPOILERS for Bound by Choice and Bound by Destiny II.i. AHEAD! obviously

Bound by Choice:

See this was such a hard one to pick without you narrowing it down by chapter because so much of Choice ended up being vastly different in the published product than from my first attempts at outlining it???

Like for example the year, plot, setting, and entire theme of Part III changed (according to my notes that is) about 5, maybe 5½ times. Even when I actually sat down and took my big-ass white board (you know how big that one is Sofia, you know) and did a full and comprehensive START-MIDDLE-FINISH kinda thing with it... the final result barely resembled it by the time I was done.

ANYWAY... I guess since I have to pick then, 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐒𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐄 would have to be in Chapter 14: V.ii. I Have a Rendezvous With Death, in the confrontation between Cynbel and Serafine that led to the Big Memory WipeTM.

It’s been an inevitable part of the series from the get-go and solidified itself as necessary the moment Cadence rushed into Adrian’s Trial back in book 1. There were more than a few times where I debated not including the actual scene/event itself, even in book 3, to instead leave the specifics of what happened a mystery, but after writing Part II and their first interactions I knew I had to do it. 

And I wanted to don’t get me wrong! I loved writing Serafine’s rage and how easily Cynbel slipped back into his arrogance, parallel to how much Valdas claims he’s changed during his time away at war. I loved writing her bringing him back to Paris because on some level she knew he wouldn’t see the event as significant enough (or assume it lost in the sea of his violent acts over the centuries, to be fair) to remember as vividly as she did without jogging his memory how she did. And that scene ended up setting up the intensity of his memory loss in a way I didn’t anticipate, so thank you self.

But yup, there you have it. Man I struggled with that decision, lol.

Bound by Destiny II part 1:

See this one was a struggle because there are so many obvious ones I could pick from, like Gaius’ resurrection or Serafine confronting Cadence in The City of Shadow or even the Kadya fight early on in Chapter 7. But I think... literally as I type this in real-time... I think I know which one I’mma pick...

𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐒𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐄 is (surprisingly) pretty later-on in the book, in Chapter 28: The Perils, when Nadya and Lily are cornered by the Duchess in the chapel.

While it most definitely wasn’t a scene I had in mind when I started book 5, when it came time to create the character and concepts that came with her, the Duchess ended up being way more important than I imagined. Not only for hurting Nadya, transforming Lily, etc. but also for how she became a tool to show the progression of Nadya’s abilities as the Bloodkeeper -- which came outta nowhere even for me.

Initially, fun fact here, the Duchess wasn’t gonna be a ‘named’ character, and the Feral that Cadence pulled off of Nadya in Chapter 27 was supposed to be her. IDK why I scrapped that but I did, or maybe I just changed/erased the line/s mentioning it when I decided to flesh her out more.

And if you think about it that scene is so important for the Oblivionverse as a whole??? Like... it shows Nadya’s progress psychically and in the face of fear, it introduces this new storyline for Lily (coming along nicely in book 5 and beyond, don’t worry) while also turning everything vampires think they know about Ferals completely upside-down and with that turns the lore on its head, it segues into the first real appearance of Cynbel in over a century...

And on top of all that, that scene barely scratches the surface of what is now possible when the gang returns to Gaius’ Feral-frenzied New York City. just sayin

🖤— Random romantic headcanon

She’s a subtle woman, but extremely perceptive. Kamilah has never courted someone (casual fling & deeper connection both) the same way twice.

💢— What are some habits of theirs that would take some getting used to?

Her cagey attitude, dry wit, bluntness, and aversion to public displays of physical affection for the most part. But she is who she is and she’s not changing for anyone... not unless they surprise her by being worth it.

👀— What’s their favorite body part on themselves? On their partner?

She doesn’t specifically have a favorite part of her body. She’s had the same body, unchanged, for 2,000 years. If she didn’t like something at first she definitely has had time to get used to it; and vice versa if she had a favorite part she’s had time to find the flaw in it. She does take very good care of her hair though.

On a partner it depends. Because she’s been with so many different kinds of people she can appreciate the unique beauty in their individuality. That being said her favorite physical part of Nadya is her eyes; not just for how beautiful and bright they are but for how expressive she is with them.

💧— Random angst headcanon

Kamilah has a birthmark on the lower left side of her back, just above her hipbone. It’s just a misshapen patch of darker skin, no hidden meaning or symbolism or anything, but Lysimachus had the same one.

Not that she would want to, but she couldn’t forget her brother even if she tried.

🧡— How do they say thank you/show appreciation?

When Nadya is thankful or appreciative, you’ll know it. On account of the fact you’ll hear it more than a dozen times a day for about the whole week following. She’s also the kind of person to thank someone at work with a random bakery goodie, or go out of her way to do something of equal comparison for them.

🏠— How soon do they want to move in together?

Well they technically moved in together back when Kamilah only saw her as “the human secretary,” if we’re being literal here. And she could very well fully move into Kamilah’s loft at any time, Gerard certainly wouldn’t complain.

But Nadya also 1. likes having a little space of her own as homely as she makes it & 2. kind of feels like the whole ‘secreting away to the fancy-schmancy penthouse for a weekend/overnight’ thing is the closest she’s ever gonna get to her romance-book fantasy life and may-or-may-not secretly enjoy that.

🛌— What’s their pillow talk usually like?

Not gonna lie... she’s usually passed out post-anything-Kamilah-does because wow she tries to keep up but... doesn’t always succeed. Otherwise Nadya is content to listen to anything Kamilah wants to talk about. Many times Kamilah is content with the quiet and Nadya’s heartbeat.

Sometimes she manages to coax a story or two out of Kamilah though. Short and small and sweet and if they end violently (many do) they just cut the ending off and let it hang. She likes those times.

⛈— How often do they get emotional? Are they open with their partner about it?

This is Nadya we’re talking about. Emotion is practically her middle name. If it’s something she doesn’t want to ‘burden’ Kamilah with she tries to keep it to herself... but let’s face it she’s about as subtle as a bull in a china shop so that never lasts long.

And Kamilah is learning to be more open about things too. It helps that Nadya usually starts any kind of emotional talk.

💕— What makes them feel connected to their partners?

Isseya is a very physical person, so the closest way for her to feel connected to her lovers is actual physical connection, no matter how small or slight or casual in nature. 

When she can’t have that though she’s very much a tokens of affection kinda gal — meaning Cynbel and Valdas regularly offer her tokens and she uses them like surrogate totems for their touch when they are away.

🧺— Random domestic headcanon

She’s never done a load of laundry in her goddamned life. Even with modern technology making it as easy as pressing buttons, nope.

💋— What are their kisses like?

To absolutely nobody’s surprise Isseya kisses like she does everything else: with more than a little hint of violence. Both are passionate acts and she’s a passionate woman. She kisses like the way flames leap into the air when fresh kindling is tossed into the pit. Like cold air that bites at your skin until you’re too hot under the collar and suddenly you’re desperate for its touch. 

Like the way your stomach clenches into knots when you think of that one vice you have, the one you wouldn’t tell a soul about, the one that’s so deep and dark and maybe even a little twisted that you know will change everyone’s perception of you if they knew what it was — she kisses like that vice was a person who could love you back.

💔— What could their partners do that would absolutely break their heart?

13) Who is your least favourite character to write for? Why?

See I don’t want this to get taken the wrong way, but probably Gaius. Because I’m always worried about getting his villainous motivations and characterization right. So far (fingers crossed) I’ve been told I get his voice down pretty well, but we we gear up for the rest of book 5 and more appearances from him I hope I stay that way!

So yeah... I only don’t like writing for him because I’m worried I’ll get him wrong. I enjoy him in the story though.

26) Which part of your xxx fic was the hardest to write?

Well you know this better than anyone Sofia, but once I got to the third act of book 4, the Paris act, and thought I knew where I was going only to end up writing/rewriting like... 4-5 chapters constantly?? That was the hardest then...

And the current masquerade arc is the hardest now. I’ll leave it at that.

39) Do you prefer first, second or third person?

Third person present POV. I’ve written first person for RPs, third person past and present for RP and fiction, but never second person like in choices. I finally have found what works best with my, to quite my friend Lia, “poetic panic attack” kind of writing. And I think it works!

💚— How do they make their partners feel better?

— Cynbel

For Isseya it’s a very hands-on approach. Solution-based, what actions can I take to make you feel better, that sort of thing. And Isseya doesn’t hesitate to tell him. More often than not it ends up involving violence, but sometimes she just wants him to kiss her hard enough that she forgets why she was upset in the first place.

For Valdas it’s practically the opposite. Presence-based, I’ll listen while you vent and not offer feedback/I’ll be here when or if you need me, that sort of thing. He knows Valdas is more than capable of solving his own problems and that the man’s pride more often than not demands he solve it himself. But Valdas takes a great comfort in touching Cynbel’s hair to calm himself down.

🍽— Do they do a lot of cooking?

— Cadence

No, and anyone who has ever met him knows that this is something that’s for the best. For the safety of the entire city, pretty much.

The boy could (and has) burned pasta noodles. And because he doesn’t need human food he’s such a stickler for “following the recipe” that on the rare occasions he does succeed in making something it’s got none of the passion and kick that comes with good cooking—especially French Quarter food.

🧲— What’s an easy way to turn them on/get them riled up?

— Cynbel

Uh... they exist? 

Nah but for real (and to absolutely no one’s surprise at this point) he has a thing for his lovers covered in blood. The fight, the hunt, the kill; they all really get him going. Not always, like some situations are too negative even for his ridiculously overzealous libido, but more often than not.

☔️— What are they like when they’re emotional? How quickly do they recover?

— Cynbel

As the ample evidence has shown, Cynbel lashes out when he’s emotional. This can be good and bad, depending on the situation and cause and etc, but it almost always involves some type of action that needs taking to get the emotion out of his system.

— Cadence

Cadence is much quieter when he’s emotional — he’s prone to more human reactions like panic episodes and anxiety attacks. He ends up very clingy but usually to only one person, and that has to be a person he trusts or else he shuts everyone out entirely.

More than a few times Katherine has been texted to come to his office to help him through another “I thought I was close but the lead came up dead, I’m never gonna figure this out, I’ve wasted a century and let’s face it no one was looking for me anyway��� episode. A cup of tea and Ancient Aliens for him to work himself up correcting the false ‘facts’ of usually does the trick.

I think probably my default is I make a really good shrimp or chicken alfredo pasta with homemade alfredo. Otherwise I do like making caprese stuffed chicken too. Or cakes. I like cakes.

34. describe a time that you were brave.

Uhm I have really bad stage fright but in the seventh grade I went up for the talent show and sang a song... but like I was a weeb so I sang a Japanese song and my mum had bought me this really pretty expensive kimono for it and I shit you not the entire auditorium was silent and when I left the stage there was just this giant wave of laughter.

All through high school I had people FROM OTHER SCHOOLS WHOM I HAD NEVER MET coming up to me asking me if I was “that kid who did the Chinese song” and when I’m forced to remember it I say yes I was brave... and also very very stupid.
