Firebird
Inspiration for this piece comes from reading about animals in the aftermath of forest fires (y'know, something light). The lack of foliage after a fire can give advantages to birds of prey, such as the Spotted Owl, making it easier for them to spot and kill prey. But in turn, the lack of cover puts them at greater risk of being hunted by bigger, opportunistic predators such as the Goshawk.
To try and add a bit more whimsy or fantasy to the piece, the Goshawk is wearing an antique flint fire starter.
Watercolor on rough-press paper, about 11 x 14"

Posting this here as well because I'm SO PROUD of my boy. This is my goshawk, Tart. The bird that inspired falconry au!!
This is him 3 years apart and it's amazing to see the change in his colours! The feathers are finally fully adult and he's so handsome
But the most interesting thing for me is that goshawks eyes will gradually turn more red as they age! Hes officially gone into orange eye mode this year!!

The Space Goshawk, again.
As before, a bird that carries both space and molten gold on it’s wings. This time with ties to time itself, if the spurs on the rings around it’s head are to be believed. An elusive creature.

The Hawker P.V.3 was a proposed replacement for the Hawker Fury using the Rolls-Royce Goshawk engine. The Goshawk was a failure and thus so were all the aircraft based around it, but just as Supermarine's effort with the Goshawk would lead to the Spitfire, so too would the P.V.3 teach Hawker lessons incorporated in the Hurricane.
These photos were taken sometime between 1933 and 1935, most likely at Brooklands.
