Who am I? What am I?

Hm. Good question.

I'm supposed to be a human. I think at least a part of me is. Though I'm good at adapting to most anything, so maybe it wouldn't matter either way

I sometimes feel like a cat. I like the idea of sleeping and waking at any time. Hunting like a cat, stretching like a cat, emoting like a cat, being able to defend myself like a cat. Sometimes I like the idea of being someone's pet cat, a cozy and domestic life. Or being a wild one, free to do as I please.

I have a bit of dog in me too. I get very excited seeing people I care about, even if I consider myself an introvert (alone time is still my recharge time). Wagging my tail would be such a good happy stim.

Horses too, I think. I can fairly vividly imagine emoting like a horse. I have always liked horses.

I love birds. I used to pretend to be a bird as a kid (and probably a cat too but I digress). I love to sing. My heart aches a little whenever I see crows crossing the sky, or hear their calls. I miss my wings. I never had any.

I can imagine being a mermaid. That's not supposed to be a real thing, but I can imagine swimming out in the ocean with a mermaid tail just as well as, if not better than, how I can imagine flying with bird wings while in a human body. I've never swam out in the open ocean before. but I miss it

Aerial views. The ocean, the wind in the trees. Beaches, sea cliffs, forests. Grasslands, mountains. A hundred different feet, paws, claws, hooves, fins, feathers. A thousand lives I could have lived

green witch 4 the ask game

A: realistic

Elphaba experiences her first snowfall at college! Based on Oz's geography (Maguire's version, anyways), it would probably get a lot of snow, since it is on the non-dry side of the mountains (the Vinkus and 1,000 Year Grasslands being the dry side, of course). On the other hand, Colwen Grounds is both further south and quite near the coast. And this isn't even considering the Great Drought.

B: not quite realistic; still hilarious

I've discussed this with @gothelphie quite a few times, actually: she is prone to accidentally foisting sentience onto household objects when her magic runs wild. She and Glinda have a running list of how many pens, books, pieces of paper, etc. have ever scuttled around their room. Glinda names them all increasingly cutesy things.

C: heart-crushing, awful; fun to inflict upon friends >:)

There are already so many heart-crushing and awful aspects to Elphaba "Tragedy Magnet" Thropp. So here's three more <3 1) She's genuinely touch-starved, but is so used to receiving violence (whether from adults or her own peers) that she can almost never accept physical touch unless she is the one to initiate. 2) Post-Wizard, she is either in a state of being unable to forgive Glinda for choosing to stay/the whole shoe debacle, or being unable to forgive herself for letting things spiral so out of control. Her self-loathing runs so deep that there is no reconcilable point at which she could ever move on from letting everyone she loved down. 3) She has legitimately almost died several times in desperate attempts to keep her hat safe. This sounds funny, but the implications are devastating and sad. It's one of her only personal belongings, and is such a distinctive reminder of someone who fundamentally changed her soul (although she would argue she never had a soul to begin with). She sleeps with it in her arms.

D: disregard canon, ascend to authorhood (holy fuck gregory PLEASE hand over the reins i need visitation rights)

*rattles the bars of my cage* ELPHABA THROPP IS AUTISTIC I made a whole post about it already!! I'm not going to repeat a whole lot of what I said there, but the gist of it is: sensory issues, difficulty with empathy/recognizing other emotions, black/white sense of justice, non-understanding (or blatant dislike) of social customs, trouble recognizing sarcasm, stims. A rather cliché collection of traits, but they're literally all in the text and I've just done the normal person behavior of compiling them obsessively.

oh, this is a great idea. his boyfriend won't be a stagnant fossil and will be able to go on about his days without napping all the time-- they'll be able to do all the things that he has planned but haven't gone through with because he didn't want to overexert either of them. now that marinette is healthier and isn't prone to fainting spells, and now that luka will actually be able to stay awake for longer than a couple of hours at a time, they'll be able to go to cancun-- no-- go to barbados-- or new york city-- or buenos aires (there's rumors that there are many demon-and-Firsts establishments in buenos aires, with all of that flat grassland being perfect for those with wings to stretch them out after long periods of misuse-- he's itching to take luka there) or even anywhere in the carribean. he wants to see marinette's eyes light up as she finally gets to see the most bluest of waters that luka has said time and time again are just as beautiful as her eyes. he needs to see it.

adrien is excited to finally see those hungry eyes of his disappear, too-- and he's excited, to see what luka's opinions on what the taste of souls are, because they're different for each person...

so here they are, in the booth, his shoulder inadvertently wedging marinette into the wall because marinette is never on the outside spot of the booth and always in, because he's a gentleman and gentlemen do not let their loved ones sit exposed to anyone who could come by and snatch or hurt her. the place they're in is a literal hovel just outside the cave openings like the universe's most strangest pitstop, and yes, he did get some strange and confused looks, but he'd rather deal with them than get marinette to deal with whatever anger and hostility they draw to her, so squeezing her into the wall on accident is just something they're going to have to put up with.

and they both want to watch him take his first bite of it, so it's fine.

she doesn't seem to be complaining.

his leg won't stop bouncing, and his hands won't stop stimming with whatever cutlery is closest-- ah-- the salad fork, apparently-- marinette took away the knife and the spoon and is gingerly attempting to find a way to pry the fork out of his hands because he's spinning it like a pencil, but he's not focused at all on her gentle hands or her quirked smile because luka's looking at his plate with quiet apprehension.

their boyfriend is horrible at talking about what bothers them. it's polite. and annoying. adrien's gonna kick him if he doesn't get a move on.

"kitty-cat, i think you're making him uncomfortable," marinette rolls her eyes. "stop staring at him like that."

"i'm not staring."

"you're a little staring."

"this isn't staring."

"i'm not uncomfortable with how he's looking at me," luka manages to respond after the valiant effort of snapping his gaze away at his plate. he throws a fry in his direction. adrien barely even blinks when it hits his jaw. "i'm just... why does it look like a cheeseburger?"

"immersion?"

"fast food souls?" marinette's face crinkles. "who is this? who's soul is this? maybe it's not considered an expensive meal because the soul is... uh... not sinful enough? or too sinful? what's better? are you supposed to want to eat the really sinful ones or the pure-er ones?"

"i asked for the tainted one they have," adrien gestures to how the soul really does look like a patty. "the more tarnished they are, the more fulfilling they are. and plus, you know... maybe it'll be easier for him to swallow--"

"--literally--"

he cracks a smile to the way luka rolls his eyes at his own joke. "--if he sees that he's doing himself a service. we're not the ones who judge the soul, luka. you know that."

"i know."

"this soul ended up here for a reason."

"right..."

"you can't be afraid of something like that." adrien's mouth quirks. "what do you think about it, angel? tell me what you think of it."

"i smell gunpowder?" luka offers with a little shrug. "gunpowder and cheese. i don't know what or who this soul belongs to. i can barely even get a reading out of it."

"ew... gunpowder and cheese?"

"it's a human soul. he's a murderer," adrien sighs. "well, he was."

luka grimaces. "but, what if--"

"angel, it was absolutely not self-defense. he killed his family. everyone. you smell the gunpowder from his one last hurrah, or whatever." can he really not tell? he knows that demons and angels are different, but...

marinette shirks into his shoulder. "yeesh. how do you even know that--"

"demons have soul-perception," luka is stalling, he can see it with his own eyes. "something that i don't have. because i--"

"luka."

"because i can't--"

"luka." he rolls his eyes-- he stops when he recognizes the grimace on luka's face. he looks cramped. luka looks... cramped. claustrophobic, even. it reminds him of that scene of when luka had tried to open his wings in the bathroom in order to wash them off in the tub-- he's boxed in. overly aware of his own size, feeling so large yet so helpless. he's still holding onto his reasons... he stops spinning his fork, letting marinette snatch it and store it under her napkin roll. it's hard to take the angel out of a demon, even after hundreds of thousands of years, isn't it? "luka? you don't have to eat it."

"i promised."

"angel," marinette tilts her head to the side. "it doesn't matter if you promised. you're uncomfortable."

he rubs at his face. "i'm tired of being tired."

"we know."

"i'm tired of all the body pain i'm in. my wings still haven't warped back into shape, because i haven't sustained myself."

"we know," she repeats. "but you don't have to."

he looks so exhausted already.

"they were judged already." luka repeats what adrien's told him over and over again. "they're here for punishment."

"it's our job as demons to eat the scraps," adrien huffs bitterly, finishing off his sentences. "and there will always be something to eat."

"this'll make me into an actual demon." it would be comical, without any context, to watch luka speak to his cheeseburger like he's about to pray for forgiveness. "there won't be any real reason to hope that i'll be able to go home one day."

and that's the real reason, isn't it? after all, luka has never accepted doing normal demonic things... this is the final barrier. the final wall. the final thing left.

the final trial for him to accept.

no angel can eat a soul. but a demon can.

marinette reaches for his hands. "your health needs to come first, luka. you know that."

"but--"

"she'll forgive you," she puts it bluntly. always so honest. always so hopeful. "anyone who loves you would. you need to live. we'll be right here, and nothing'll change."

he bites.

CHILDHOOD HEADCANON:

Nigel and Mariann were both workaholics even when they started dating, they never stopped working- even while Mariann was pregnant with their first child. ( Making Debbie a wedlock baby. ) So Debbie was born during the the filming of the giraffes in savanena a mixed woodland/grassland of Africa, for Nigel Thornberrys animal world. Mariann’s water broke half way through the film ( they ended up filming over parts of the animals to film the brith of Debbie. ) They hadn’t expected for Debbie to have been born 2 months earlier than her due date. Nigel was the one to deliver the baby, the giraffes simply continued eating leaves from the tree above where Mariann was giving birth under. Without any sort of pain medicine on top of having her baby early.

They went to a small hospital in a village ( since traveling to far wasn’t safe for the newborn ) who was to care for her. Nigel and Marianne stayed by her side the whole time, hardly sleeping or eating. They waited months, during that time their family visited off and on since it was a long way to go. Grandma Sophia started the whole time too.

They got a makeshift birth certificate madeit was a beautiful baby girl who they named Deborah Radcliffe Thornberry. ( her middle name is her grandpa’s first name, ) it was written on a slip of paper Grandma Sophia had in her purse. They still have it.

The day of the discharge from the hospital was a mixture of joy and worry for the new parents. But Debbie seemed fine and Healthy, of course, the Thornberrys waited a bit longer until they started up their careers again. ( A few more months. ) The first few years of Debbie’s life was spend traveling the world with her parents, which even from a young age she slightly disliked. But she was happy, oddly enough she made friends with some of the more tamed animals. But that was mostly because Debbie was never around/met another kids her own age. Of course, she did get lonely and never really knew how to deal with those crippling feeling of loneliness that the life of traveling gave her.

Sophie would send letters upon letters always about how Debbie shouldn’t be spending her childhood living out of a camper and she feels sorry for Marianne that she can’t give her child all that she deserves because of Marianne’s little career choose. Along with a book called women who joggle to much. ( this happened in S1 Ep16. Nigel knows best. ) But they ignored her persistent nagging. Since they knew what was best for their children and that Debbie was happy and healthy. And as the years went on, she never stopped pressuring them more and more, which is why they caved when she became pregnant with Eliza. Debbie was turning four years old when the family packed up and moved to Flagstaff, Arizona to stay with Sophie and Frank while Mariann was pregnant, so they pushed their wants to the side for a time in order to focus their time wholly on raising Debbie and the new baby.  

Sophie seemed to relish in the idea of having her daughter back, she fussed over everything Mariann did or didn’t do when raising Debbie out in the wild- so she did everything in her power to get everything right with this one.  Over time she and slightly Mariann had become so preoccupied with the baby that Debbie was unintentionally placed on the backburner, not because they wanted it that way- just because it was that way. They seemed to be making up for lost time. But Debbie learned to adjust to spending time with her daddy ( and grandpa if he wasn’t too tired from working.  ) But soon Debbie begin to notice her daddy losing that surge of happiness he used to have, it started off small.  

So Debbie took it into her own hands, somehow feeling that it was her responsibility to mend all of her daddy’s sadness, to fix him. In small ways, the roles switched and soon Debbie filled the role of parent. So when Nigel ended up falling into a deep depression, days where Nigel would spend all day in bed, not shower or even eat ( Mariann or even Debbie would have to try and force him to do those things. ) And being the daddy’s girl Debbie was when she was younger- she would sit on the floor drawing pictures and when he didn’t eat she would bring him goldfish crackers ( she even gave him kippers- but she couldn’t get the tin open, ) she tried her best. She would sit with him and comb her fingers through his unwashed hair while watching animal documentaries. Sometimes he would talk about all the things he knew about animals, Debbie liked those times because he seemed happy.

They ended up getting married a month after moving to Arizona while Mariann was a few weeks along with Eliza.  It was a small wedding with just Nigel and Marianne’s immediate family and few close friends Jomo was Nigel’s best man. Debbie was the flower girl and she loved every second of it- she soaked up all the attention like a sponge. Nigel’s parents stayed with the family for a while, while the wedding was being planned. Grandma Thornberry started to take notice of Debbie’s odd behavior and sought out to correct it- something she tried and failed to do with Nigel. Seeing Debbie’s autism as something to be fixed ( Mariann’s parents knew about Debbie ) she would have Debbie sit on her hands so she couldn’t stim saying “Quiet hands, Deborah.” Or put soap in her mouth whenever she did something that Grandma Thornberry deemed unacceptable for a young lady. 

Of course, when Nigel found out what his mother had been teaching Debbie- he put a stop to it immediately. His daughter was perfect just the way she was, that was one of the few times Nigel raised his voice at his mother- he wasn’t going to let her fill up her head with those nasty thoughts. The following night he sat Debbie down and explained that how she interacted with the world was different from other children but that just made her special and she should never feel bad about being different. That she was perfect and to never change herself for anyone. But the damage was already done, Debbie believed the lies, she believed it was her fault, she knew whose advice she preferred still, she was burdened by a feeling of wrongness and guilt. So she hides those things away, hides those parts of herself buried them deep in the back of her mind.

Debbie was five years old when Eliza was born, it was a long delivery. A healthy baby girl. They prepared carefully for this, reading Debbie picture books about becoming an older sister, asked her opinion on names for the baby. Small things to help Debbie get used to the idea of having a baby sister. The following day, Nigel had been forced out of bed by Debbie to meet the new addition to the Thornberry’s, his hair pulled into a greasy ponytail holding Debbie’s hand. 

Of course, Nigel feared slipping back into that darkness, but when that didn’t happen, and he felt an incredible surge of happiness, he was amazed- Eliza seemed to be the thing to pull him out of that dark place and from the moment she was born to the first injured bird she brought home, Eliza was the favorite. Nigel and Mariann swear they love both of them the same, they love how different they are and love them both for who they are. But at the end of the day, Eliza was the favorite child- she shares the same interests as both her parents which only strengthened their bond to the point where they subconsciously favor their youngest. And of course, Debbie was jealous, but she was glad her daddy finally seemed like his old self, she liked that he took her on nature walks despite not enjoying the bugs, she liked having her dad back- so she bottled up her feelings kept them inside. 

Everything seemed to be going okay for the Thornberry’s, it wasn’t until they tried to enroll Debbie into kindergarten did they run into some trouble because she didn’t have a birth certificate since they never seemed to have time, what with the show taking off in popular before and after she was born. When Debbie finally started kindergarten, she became very anxious suffering from separation anxiety since she had never been apart from her mom and dad before.To some extent she was always the target of teasing because she was different- a bit too weird but it was always a bit hard for Debbie to make friends. ( She’s an extroverted introvert. ) She really excelled in all her classes, Debbie was especially good in math. 

Slowly Nigel and Mariann started to work on their show again, Nigel seemed happier- he’s spark for life was reborn again.  Debbie never made it to fifth grade before her parents decided to pack up the girls and travel the world again, much to the protest of Mariann’s parents ( and Nigel’s too, honestly. ) Eliza was beyond ecstatic about the whole idea… Debbie, on the other hand, was very unhappy about being forced to uproot herself again from the only comfort she’s ever felt was her own. 

Of course, she complained about the move but knew deep down that this was what her dad needed to be happy and she’d do anything for his happiness. Moving from such a spacious home back into the comvee was a huge adjustment for Debbie. Of course, now since she got a taste of what most people have. A real house, friends, and school she craved those things even more. But she was forced to give up those things for the happiness of her family. But she would give it up everything for her family even if it meant that she was unhappy. Her childhood wasn’t bad, it was actually pretty good. But she can’t help that small twinge of sadness in her chest when she looks back on it.
