I beg of thee…🙇‍♀️🙏 a snippet, a blip, ANYTHING, of the holy Obikin banter of body politic au brewing in your WIP docs🤲🤲😭
we haven’t gotten to obikin banter yet except inside my head where they’re fighting like cats and dogs but I can share some other banter within the fic because this fic is gonna have an unnatural amount of banter:
“You could try showing some skin,” Aayla suggests from where she’s lounging across their couch, tapping away at her phone. Anakin looks up from his laptop—where WikiHow is informing him that he should try to Put Some Pep In His Step if he wants to get people involved in grassroots politics—and considers this carefully.
“It’s October,” Ahsoka points out. She’s in the kitchen, cooking something that smells vaguely nauseating, but their apartment is criminally small. She doesn’t even have to yell to be heard. “No one’s going to be impressed by you shivering on their doorstep like some abused chihuahua.”
Aayla snorts, which is sort of unfair because she was the one who suggested it in the first place, so she should be on his side forever and ever. That’s how politics work, anyway.
“Don’t do that,” Rex says. He’s bouncing a ball against the wall because he can’t concentrate on his reading assignment and he’s attempting to make it everyone’s problem until at least two of them agree to go outside and play basketball with him. That’s also how politics work, actually. “This isn’t porn, it’s politics.”
“Women don’t like shirtless men anymore anyway,” Ahsoka says. “We like nerds.”
“You don’t even like men at all,” Anakin points out. “And what do you mean you like nerds?”
“Get glasses,” Aayla says. “Try for vulnerable and nonthreatening. Real into politics. Got shoved into a locker sort of energy.”
“I’ve never gotten shoved into a locker in my life,” Anakin says, offended.
“Weren’t you homeschooled?” Rex offers, which is beside the point, because even if Anakin wasn’t homeschooled, he wouldn’t have been shoved into a locker anyway.
“I don’t think any of you should go into politics,” he decides, turning back to his wikipedia page.

Brittney Griner's first Instagram post since coming back home:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
brittneyyevettegriner It feels so good to be home! The last 10 months have been a battle at every turn. I dug deep to keep my faith and it was the love from so many of you that helped keep me going. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone for your help.
I am grateful to each person who advocated for me, especially my wife, Cherelle Griner, my family, Lindsay Kagawa Colas and Casey Wasserman and my whole team at Wasserman, Vince Kozar and the Phoenix Mercury, the players of the WNBA, and my entire WNBA family, Terri Jackson and the WNBPA staff, my Russian legal team Maria Blagovolina and Alex Boykov, the leaders, activists, and grassroots organizations, Gov. Richardson and Mickey Bergman of the Richardson Center, the Bring Our Families Home Campaign, Roger Carstens and the SPEHA team, and of course, a special thank you to President Biden, Vice President Harris, Secretary Blinken and the entire Biden-Harris Administration.
President Biden, you brought me home and I know you are committed to bringing Paul Whelan and all Americans home too. I will use my platform to do whatever I can to help you. I also encourage everyone that played a part in bringing me home to continue their efforts to bring all Americans home. Every family deserves to be whole.
As I transition home to enjoy the holidays with my family, I want to acknowledge and thank the entire PISA staff and medical team at the San Antonio Fort Sam Houston Base. I appreciate the time and care to make sure I was okay and equipped with the tools for this new journey.
I also want to make one thing very clear: I intend to play basketball for the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury this season, and in doing so, I look forward to being able to say ‘thank you’ to those of you who advocated, wrote, and posted for me in person soon.

Clarkies, the Indiana Fever TV audience is down to 1.7M. I need it at 2M. You guys are gonna need to start some grassroots social movement to fix this.
I did some research and discovered that memes, gifs, and thirst traps might improve viewership.
So get to work! I want to see tumblr absolutely clogged with Fever memes and Fever gifs and pictures of Fever ladies. And I mean the entire Fever roster! Put it on all your blogs, not just your basketball side blog.
Be proactive. Do it now. Make sure every single one of your followers gets peer pressured into watching a WNBA game

July 27, 2024
By Kevin Baxter
(Los Angeles Times) — When Maritza Correia McClendon started swimming in Puerto Rico, she stood out because of her talent, not the color of her skin.
“There’s a lot of diversity in Puerto Rico,” said McClendon, who is Black and Latino, as are one in five people on the island.
Then her Guyanese-born parents moved to Florida when she was 8. Though she had become even faster in the pool, that was no longer the first thing people noticed about her.
“I remember a parent telling me, ‘What are you doing here? You should go do track or you should go on a basketball court,’” she said. “They were almost shaming me for being that outcast on that pool deck.
“That is definitely traumatizing. It’s still hard for me. I do definitely still struggle with that confidence factor.”
McClendon overcame that to become the first Puerto Rican of African descent to make the U.S. Olympic swimming team, the first Black female to win an Olympic medal for the U.S. and the first Black American swimmer to hold a world record.
In an effort to get others to follow her lead, McClendon is now among a growing number of former swimmers, coaches, officials and administrators working to make the sport more accessible and welcoming for people of color, from the grassroots level, where she was once shunned, to the Olympic team, where she shined.
The Paris Games has the opportunity to provide a big boost in those efforts when the swimming competition begins Saturday. Although only two of the 46 pool swimmers who will compete for the U.S. in Paris are Black — and none are Latino — those two, Shaine Casas, a three-time world champion, and Simone Manuel, a two-time Olympic champion and five-time Olympic medalist, have a chance to inspire a generation.

THE PRINCE DIARIES ♚
27 JUNE 2023 || HOMEWARDS LAUNCH TOUR : REACH UP YOUTH, SHEFFIELD
Reach Up Youth in Sheffield was announced by The Prince of Wales as the sixth Homewards location. The organisation is partnering up with Homewards to help boost peer support and prevent homelessness in young people.
The Prince of Wales paid a visit to them woth Homewards advocate Tyrone Mings.
This visit was aimed at highlighting how grassroots sports can connect young people with their communities.
During the visit, he met with Young People including volunteers who shared their stories with William and discussed the work the organisation is doing to support those struggling.
He also played some basketball against Tyrone and then they joined in for a barbecue lunch.
Homewards Sheffield will focus on families experiencing hidden homeless, including those who are living in temporary accommodation such as hostels or shelters.
It will also address the fact that in Sheffield there is a disproportionate number of people of Black and minoritised ethnic backgrounds who are becoming homeless. Thus, the early work will focus efforts on diverse communities in Sheffield and surrounding areas with high levels of deprivation.
Teams in Sheffield including a range of partners will further strengthen their links and the ability to direct people to services that they might need, building on existing work across the city. The programme will aim to reach families before they are at risk losing their home.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a thrilling final at the Paris Olympics, Team USA Men's Basketball secured its fifth consecutive—and 17th overall—Olympic gold medal in the Men’s 5x5 Basketball Final.
Boasting a star-studded roster of 12 NBA All-Stars, including four MVPs and six NBA champions, Team USA was primed for success from the outset. Leading the charge was Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant, a three-time Olympic gold medalist and the all-time Olympic points leader for Team USA. Durant delivered a strong performance in the final, contributing 15 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds. Reflecting on the journey, Durant said, "Set a goal and work every day for it until you achieve it."
Making his first Olympic appearance since 2012, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James played a pivotal role in guiding Team USA to victory throughout the Games. James, who posted 14 points, 10 assists, and 6 rebounds in the final, emphasized the importance of hard work, stating, "Nothing is given. Everything is earned. As long as I'm out there on the floor, I'm trying to be the greatest ever."
Nike, the leading advocate for athletes and sports, has always prioritized listening to the voice of the athlete. This commitment is exemplified by the LeBron James Innovation Center, home to the Nike Sports Research Lab (NSRL), where insights from elite and everyday athletes shape the future of sports.
In the lead-up to the Olympics, Team USA participated in the USA Basketball Showcase, demonstrating their dominance and teamwork. Kevin Durant and his Phoenix Suns teammate, Nike signature athlete Devin Booker, who was also part of the gold-medal-winning team in Tokyo, were key contributors. Booker, reflecting on his drive, said, "I play to be the best."
Nike Basketball continues to elevate the game globally. Since 2004, Nike signature athletes like LeBron and KD have visited over 20 cities across Greater China to promote grassroots basketball, inspiring and nurturing the next generation of players in local communities.

not tea but tbh i don’t want the yotes to go to SLC. i don’t follow them but i think they just need help in az and moving them to another stadium not ready for hockey won’t help. also i wonder about the cultural impacts of that….marketing hockey to mormons? no hate to mormons but i don’t think that would make hockey more welcoming 🫠
yeaaahhh i mean i think hockey belongs in the desert and i'd love the yotes to stay there but... the NHLPA has been kicking up a huge fuss about the state of the arena, the locker rooms, the lack of professionalism the players have to deal with... if they get another arena built it's not going to be for 5+ years, and that was just too long for the NHL & NHLPA to wait. i can't say i disagree with that.
however, alex meruelo is an idiot and a con artist and is one of a long line of incompetent coyotes owners... like he wasn't even paying their hotel bills this szn until all the hotels banded together and forced him to pay w a check up front... he's been spending as little money on this franchise as possible, lying to his staff and players and the fans, and is now getting a huge pay day out if it... it's sick (derogatory)
it's rly sad bc hockey has clearly been successful there at a grassroots level - one of the best active players is from there (matthews), and the fans are clearly passionate as they've stuck with the team through decades of incompetence and bullshit. the nhl and the owners they trusted to take care of this franchise really fucked up and it's really sad to watch this go down.
in terms of SLC - i'm skeptical but i think it can work. yes there's a lot of mormons there ofc but it is genuinely a growing tech hub. i know of more than a few people in my circles who have moved there recently bc they can work for a local tech company/work remote/have access to big city amenities/have access to nature - skiing, mountain biking, hiking, etc.
this ryan smith dude seems like a bit of a weirdo. in general i don't trust wealthy culty tech bros (elon musk, anyone?) but he has a track record of purchasing and investing in a pro sports franchise (although purportedly the team hasn't been good underneath him - their STH base is strong). they are going to start off playing in an arena built for basketball, but they have a proper NHL-worthy arena on the way - with full local & state backing from both public and private sectors. they are already 10 steps ahead of arizona with regards to that, and that was one of the most important pieces to the NHLPA.
i do wonder how this is gonna work considering the strict alcohol and gambling laws in utah. sports betting is literally illegal there lol. i think one of the reasons vegas has done so well (besides the team just winning right off the bat, etc) is bc vegas has a party/entertainment culture... and when done right, the NHL is perfect for that. genuinely one of my fave things to do is go watch my local team, drink some beers, and soak in the atmosphere in the crowd. it's so fun. will require some major buy in from the growing corporate/tech crowd in SLC but as i said lots of younger people are moving there from other places so. we'll see how it goes.
they are getting a team with a ton of great young players and prospects (i do think some of the older players will request trades) and the owner seems willing to spend money and make a splash in free agency. if they get it right i think it can go really well.
i feel so, so bad for yotes fans who have lived through this long rebuild and are now having to watch their young players & prospects they were so excited for, grow and develop for a different city. it really sucks.

Allen Iverson Executive Produces Soundtrack To Bad Things Happen In Philadelphia
youtube
Allen Iverson has executive-produced the soundtrack to Bad Things Happen In Philadelphia. Kyra Knox is the director of the feature that looks at gun violence in the city from the perspective of young people and community members. The film's title is a response to Donald Trump's quote, "Bad Things Happen In Philadelphia. Bad Things" from the first 2020 Presidential debate. Knox wanted to show how Philadelphia's people encourage their communities through grassroots work, challenging the stereotype of being criminals and victims. Garry Mills who mentors young people through his non-profit Shoot Basketballs NOT People, says, "Less Excuses. More Adjustments. This film is a reflection of the commitment to making dark inner-city communities bright again and displays my GOD-given gift to uplift and be a guardian angel to the youth.” The documentary has been shown at various film festivals and won multiple awards. "Legacy Re-Mix" is from the soundtrack, featuring rapper Da'T.R.U.T.H., Jill Scott, Greg Cox, and Adam Blackstone. Shanachie Records will release the soundtrack on December 1st. Bad Things Happen In Philadelphia will premiere at the Philadelphia Film Festival on October 28th. Fox Soul and Prime Video will have the national broadcast premiere on December 1st.

The Resurgence of Baseball: How America’s Favorite Pastime is Making a Comeback
Baseball, often hailed as America's favorite pastime, has seen its fair share of highs and lows over the years. But recently, this classic sport is experiencing a resurgence that's rekindling old passions and jaglacrosse sparking new interest. It’s like finding an old favorite book you forgot you loved—suddenly, everything feels fresh and exciting again. From thrilling new rules to a growing fanbase, let’s explore how baseball is reinventing itself and why it's making a comeback.
Tumblr media
A Brief History of Baseball's Popularity
Baseball has always held a special place in American culture. From Babe Ruth's legendary home runs to the magical moments of the World Series, the sport has woven itself into the fabric of our national identity. Understanding its rise helps appreciate why the current resurgence feels so nostalgic and exciting.
The Decline: Factors Affecting Baseball's Popularity
In recent decades, baseball faced challenges from other sports and entertainment options. Think of it like a once-popular TV show overshadowed by newer, flashier ones. Factors such as long game times and increased competition from sports like basketball and football led to a decline in interest. Addressing these issues is key to understanding how baseball is making its comeback.
Revitalizing the Game: New Rules and Innovations
Baseball isn't just sticking to tradition—it's evolving. Recent rule changes, such as pitch clocks and base size adjustments, aim to make the game faster and more exciting. Imagine updating an old recipe with new ingredients; these innovations are like that, making the game more appealing to today’s audience while respecting its roots.
The Role of Technology in Baseball’s Comeback
Technology is playing a huge role in baseball's revival. Advanced analytics, player tracking, and enhanced broadcasting bring a fresh perspective to the game. It’s akin to using a high-definition lens to view a classic movie—technology makes the game more engaging and accessible to fans of all ages.
Youth Engagement: Building a New Generation of Fans
Engaging young players and fans is crucial for baseball’s future. Programs that promote youth leagues and school competitions are helping to cultivate a new generation of baseball enthusiasts. It’s like planting seeds for a future garden; investing in youth ensures that the sport continues to grow and thrive.
Community Events and Local Leagues
Local leagues and community events are crucial in bringing baseball back to grassroots levels. These events provide a platform for people to connect with the sport on a personal level. Picture a local festival celebrating a traditional craft—these community-driven activities make baseball feel more accessible and integral to everyday life.
The Impact of Major League Baseball (MLB) Initiatives
Major League Baseball is not sitting idly by; it’s actively working to rejuvenate interest. Initiatives such as youth outreach programs and fan engagement campaigns are designed to reconnect with fans and attract new ones. These efforts are like a major league baseball team’s strategic plays—aimed at achieving long-term success.
Success Stories: Teams Leading the Revival
Certain teams are leading the charge in baseball's resurgence, showing that it's not just a general trend but a real movement within the sport. Success stories of teams improving their performance and fan engagement provide hope and inspiration. Think of these teams as trailblazers setting an example for others to follow.
Fan Experience: Enhancements in Stadiums
Modernizing stadiums to enhance the fan experience is another factor in baseball’s comeback. Upgraded amenities, interactive features, and improved seating make attending games more enjoyable. Imagine upgrading an old, comfortable armchair with the latest features—it makes the experience more enjoyable and engaging.
Baseball’s Influence on Pop Culture
Baseball's influence extends beyond the field and into popular culture. Films, books, and even music often celebrate the sport’s rich history and emotional impact. It’s like a classic melody that keeps playing in the background of our lives, constantly reminding us of its significance and charm.
International Growth and Global Interest
Baseball’s appeal is growing internationally, with more countries embracing the sport. The global expansion is akin to spreading a beloved recipe worldwide, introducing baseball to new audiences and cultures. This international interest contributes to the sport’s overall resurgence and diversity.
Challenges Ahead: What’s Next for Baseball?
Despite the positive trends, baseball faces challenges that need addressing to ensure sustained growth. Issues such as maintaining fan engagement and balancing tradition with innovation will be crucial in shaping the sport's future. It’s like navigating a course with both familiar and new landmarks—careful planning and adaptability are key.
How You Can Get Involved and Support the Revival
Everyone can play a part in baseball’s revival, whether by attending games, supporting local teams, or participating in community events. Think of it as contributing to a collective effort to keep a beloved tradition alive and thriving.
Conclusion
Baseball's resurgence is a testament to its enduring charm and ability to adapt to modern times. From new rules and technologies to community engagement and global growth, the sport is making a significant comeback. Embracing these changes while celebrating its rich history ensures that baseball remains a beloved pastime for generations to come. So, grab a glove, head to a game, and be part of baseball's exciting revival!
