How to Mix and Match Gemstones in 925 Silver Jewelry
Mixing and matching gemstones in 925 silver jewelry is a wonderful way to create unique, eye-catching pieces that reflect your personal style. The versatility of 925 silver, combined with the wide array of available gemstones, allows for endless combinations. Here’s a guide to help you master the art of mixing and matching gemstones in 925 silver jewelry.
Understanding 925 Silver
925 silver, also known as sterling silver, is made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. This combination makes the metal durable and gives it a brilliant shine, making it an ideal setting for various gemstones.
Why Mix and Match Gemstones?
Mixing and matching gemstones in your jewelry adds color, texture, and personality to your pieces. It allows you to:
Express Individuality: Create pieces that are uniquely yours.
Complement Outfits: Coordinate jewelry with different outfits.
Highlight Gemstone Properties: Showcase the different meanings and benefits of various gemstones.
Tips for Mixing and Matching Gemstones
1. Choose a Color Palette
Start by selecting a color palette that suits your style. You can go for complementary colors (colors opposite each other on the color wheel) for a vibrant look, analogous colors (colors next to each other on the color wheel) for a harmonious feel, or monochromatic shades for a subtle effect.
Complementary Colors: Blue sapphires with orange citrines.
Analogous Colors: Blue topaz with green emeralds.
Monochromatic Shades: Different shades of blue, such as aquamarine, sapphire, and turquoise.
2. Consider Gemstone Properties
Each gemstone carries its own meaning and properties. Combining gemstones with complementary properties can enhance the overall symbolism of your jewelry.
Amethyst and Rose Quartz: Amethyst is known for its calming properties, while rose quartz symbolizes love.
Citrine and Peridot: Citrine is believed to bring prosperity, while peridot promotes health and vitality.
3. Balance Sizes and Shapes
Mix gemstones of different sizes and shapes to create a balanced and visually appealing piece. Pair larger gemstones with smaller ones to avoid overwhelming the design. Consider using a central large gemstone flanked by smaller stones.
Large Gemstone with Accents: A large blue topaz surrounded by small diamonds.
Mixed Shapes: Oval amethysts paired with round garnets.
4. Play with Textures
Incorporate gemstones with different textures to add depth to your jewelry. Smooth cabochons, faceted stones, and raw gemstones can all be combined for a unique look.
Smooth and Faceted: A smooth moonstone paired with a faceted ruby.
Raw and Polished: A raw emerald with a polished aquamarine.
5. Use Neutral Stones as Anchors
Neutral gemstones like diamonds, white topaz, or clear quartz can serve as anchors in your design, tying together more colorful gemstones and providing a cohesive look.
Diamond and Sapphire: Diamonds paired with blue sapphires for a classic, elegant look.
Clear Quartz and Amethyst: Clear quartz to highlight the deep purple of amethyst.
Creating Different Jewelry Pieces
1. Rings
When designing rings, consider the size and comfort. A large central gemstone with smaller side stones works well for rings.
Statement Ring: A large emerald with smaller accent diamonds.
Stackable Rings: Multiple thin bands each with a different small gemstone, such as ruby, sapphire, and emerald.
2. Earrings
For earrings, symmetry is key. Choose gemstones that complement each other in size and color.
Drop Earrings: A combination of blue topaz and peridot.
Stud Earrings: Pairing different gemstones like ruby on one ear and emerald on the other for a mismatched yet stylish look.
3. Necklaces
Necklaces offer more space to play with different gemstones. Layered necklaces can combine several gemstones for a rich, layered effect.
Pendant Necklace: A single pendant with multiple gemstones, such as a central amethyst surrounded by smaller citrines.
Layered Necklace: Different chains with individual gemstones like garnet, topaz, and tourmaline.
4. Bracelets
Bracelets can feature a single row of mixed gemstones or multiple rows for a bolder look.
Charm Bracelet: Charms with various gemstones like aquamarine, ruby, and peridot.
Cuff Bracelet: A wide cuff with inlaid gemstones of different colors and shapes.
Caring for Mixed Gemstone Jewelry
To maintain the beauty of your mixed gemstone jewelry:
Clean Regularly: Use a soft cloth and mild soap to clean your jewelry.
Store Separately: Store each piece separately to prevent scratches.
Avoid Chemicals: Keep your jewelry away from harsh chemicals and perfumes.
Conclusion
Mixing and matching gemstones in 925 silver jewelry is a creative and enjoyable way to enhance your collection. By considering color palettes, gemstone properties, sizes, shapes, and textures, you can create unique pieces that reflect your style and personality. With proper care, your mixed gemstone jewelry will continue to shine brightly for years to come.

St. Patrick’s Day through the years
Every year since the Duke of Cambridge has been made Colonel of the Irish Guards, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge hands out Shamrocks for the troops at Calvary Barracks to pin to their uniform for the St. Patrick’s Day parade. This tradition was started by Queen Alexandra and was later taken on by the Queen Mother and until more recently, before Catherine took on the role, Princess Anne. It’s a staple in the Cambridge’s calendar, though this year the event may be in peril of cancellation to help stop the spread of coronavirus. As of yet, nothing has been cancelled. Either way, let’s take a look back at what Catherine wore.
2012
Tumblr media
2012 was the first year Kate handed out shamrocks and she fittingly wore the color green. This green coat is by Emilia Wickstead and the way the pleats drape is a dream. Her rich brown Emmy London and Lock and Co hat complemented this green beautifully.
Tumblr media
Kate’s gold shamrock brooch with the singular emerald in the middle is by Cartier and owned by the Irish Guards; it was loaned to Kate for the occasion She also accessorized with her oval green amethyst earrings from Kiki McDonough, a Christmas present from Will, and her diamond by the yard Tiffany and Co bracelet.
Tumblr media
2013
Tumblr media
Catherine was very pregnant with Prince George in 2013 but she still surprised us with a rewear. Instead of wearing this green Emilia Wickstead piece as a coatdress, she ditched the belt and wore it as a true coat over a black turtle neck and black tights. Keeping with the back theme, she wore a black fascinator by Lock and Co, black suede pumps by Episode, and black gloves by Cornelia James.
Tumblr media
Pinned to her lapel once again is the Irish Guards gold Cartier brooch. Other than that, her jewelry was simple; she wore unidentified diamond and emerald earrings.
2014
Tumblr media
In 2014 Kate delivered a new coat to us in, unsurprisingly, the color green. This piece is by Hobbs and it’s belted with a belt that remains unidentified to this day. That fun green hat is by Gina Foster. The shoes and clutch are both by Emmy London and are not green but in fact a very dark gray--I believe it’s actually called carbon gray.
Tumblr media
Kate accessories the look with her two tone Tissot watch, her cushion cut green amethyst drop earrings from Kiki McDonough, and the Irish Guards Cartier Gold Shamrock brooch (I swear its hiding behind those real shamrocks).
2015
Tumblr media
I think this is the only year Kate wore something other than green! There isn’t even a bit of green in sight except those shamrocks. While pregnant with Princess Charlotte Kate chose a coat by Catherine Walker and the same shoes and hat from 2012: Emmy heels and Lock and Co hat. She’s also holding a brown Emmy clutch while wearing brown Cornelia James gloves.
Tumblr media
For earrings she chose her citrine tear drop earrings from Kiki McDonough and paired it with the Irish Guard’s gold Cartier Shamrock brooch.
2017
Tumblr media
Kate did not hand out the Shamrocks in 2016 so we’re just right ahead into 2017 and this might be my favorite look yet. Kate debuted a Catherine Walker coat, obviously in green, with green velvet cuffs, pocket flaps, and collar--peeking out of her cuffs is her Cartier watch. Her shoes are Emmy, a different style from previous years as the toe is pointed and there is no platform. Kate had a clutch by Etui--it was a black leather clutch but she was barely pictured with it. Will and Kate jetted off to start their Paris visit after this event and she was pictured holding it during their arrival also.
Tumblr media
The hat is Sylvia Fletcher for Lock and Co, her earrings are Monica Vinader, and again, she’s wearing the Irish Guards gold shamrock brooch.
2018
Tumblr media
Catherine was very pregnant with Prince Louis and chose this green Catherine Walker coat she debuted earlier in the year while visiting Sweden. The collar and cuffs are a lovely black faux fur while her gloves are Cornelia James and her sturdy block heels are a favorite by Tod’s.
Tumblr media
Affixed to the fur collar is the Irish Guards shamrock brooch. Kate is also rewearing her Gina Foster hat with her green tourmaline and green amethyst earrings from Kiki McDonough, earrings which were a gift from Will on the occasion of Charlotte’s birth.
2019
Tumblr media
2019 brought us Kate’s first Alexander McQueen coat for St. Patrick’s day and no surprises, it’s green. Her shoes are a block heel in black suede byGianvito Rossi and the green hat is thought to be Lock and Co. Again, gloves are thought to be Cornelia James.
Tumblr media
As usual, Kate is wearing the Irish Guard’s gold Cartier shamrock brooch and her own green tourmaline and green amethyst Kiki McDonough earrings which were a gift from William on the occasion of Charlotte’s birth.
That’s all for St. Patrick’s day through the years! As of posting this the parade is scheduled to continue as usual on Sunday but I’m sure the government is monitoring the situation closely and would only cancel if they felt continuing as planned would be a detriment to public health.

The Tunnels, Part Four
“Am I hallucinating?” Youngest stuttered, staring around, eyes enormous with awe and disbelief.
Cor slowly shook her head, equally as stunned.
From where they stood at the entrance, slightly elevated above the main cavern, they could see a number of the closest stalls.
A gnome sat on a three-legged stool near the end of one aisle, in front of a wheelbarrow four times her size that overflowed with jewelry, gems and nuggets of precious metals. The loupe hanging from her neck was in hand, and she was using it to study a large stone, while a magpie sitting atop the glinting pile argued with the apparent customer, a tall, willow-thin dryad with ash white skin that curled here and there like the bark of a birch tree and curling ivy sprouted from the top of its head in place of hair.
The dryad was insisting whatever their bargain was to be a fair trade, while the magpie scoffed and called it a “lying pile of splinters”. The gnome ignored them both as she continued to examine the chunk of embedded amethyst.
Lotkin led them forward until they fell in with the large crowds. An otter darted past on Cor’s left, stopping at a table where it straightened and transformed into a masculine elf, a long, shining coat of brown pelt swinging around him. Behind the table, a nearly identical man took the pouch the former-otter handed over and spread the contents out on the tablecloth - additional herbs and plants to those already displayed.
There was a woman with opalescent scales and a bright green braid of hair weaving down from the base of her neck manning a booth. She wore a dress of flowing gold, and the stall was filled with bolts of fabric and long strips of ribbon and cloth decoration. All her wares caught the light in a way that left Cor dizzy and her eyes aching.
A creature with crackling black skin that looked half horse and put off an intense heat even from several feet away walked by. It was draped in a robe of a pale blue color that flickered and moved like fire, and a golem of stone and clay followed obediently behind, carrying a huge metal trunk locked tightly and covered in carved symbols.
Then the most enticing scent drifted through the air, abruptly covering up the odors of strange herbs and sweat and rock, and neither mortal realized they had stopped following their guide as they deviated from Lotkin’s path, heading farther in toward the center of the cavern.
They passed additional beings, beautiful and terrible to look at, some ignoring the humans in their midst, others watching them with curious or covetous expressions. Neither human paid them any attention, the smell overpowering their senses.
Ahead was a large booth, located almost smack dab in the middle of the yawning cave. It was square in shape and double the size of any other stall, open in the middle for the workers to stand and haggle from within. The counters were piled high with fresh produce, and Cor was drawn to a pyramid of plums, all almost identically and the deep purple of a bruise.
She breathed in and memories of summers at her grandparents’ house flitted to the front of her mind.
(Grandpa had always been working in the garden, or trimming the half dozen fruit trees scattered along the boundary of the backyard. Cor, her sisters, and her cousins would be dropped off early in the day and help, in exchange for treats of fresh-shelled sweetpeas and handfuls of the grapes that grew over the chainlink fence surrounding the property.
But Cor’s favorite had been the small, twisted plum tree by the old tool shed. The fruit had been a perfect size for her small hands, heavy and dull until it was rubbed against her pants to a gleaming shine. Inside the purple skin was the red meat that burst with dribbling sweetness. She would eat three or four plums at a time, then drop the hard pits in a heap beneath the trunk, pulling up the hem of her dirty shirt to clean her hands and face.)
The plums she stared at now smelled like her best memories of childhood, and Cor’s mouth watered with hunger and want.
As she fought not to reach out, barely remembering nothing was safe, from the corner of her eye she saw Youngest, handed extended. He was enthralled by a cluster of yellow fruit she didn’t recognize, soft and too oval to be pears. Shaking herself loose from her daze, Cor tripped forward, tangling their fingers together just before he brushed the fruit.
Youngest froze at the warmth of her touch and stared down at their clasped hands in confusion, before a mild shaking whispered out through his limbs. He reciprocated her hold securely and shoved his other hand deep in his jean pocket, swallowing hard.
Which was when Lotkin’s voice hissed from behind them, “Hawk your wares to someone else! These two are mine.”
They flinched to look over their shoulders, but Lotkin was focused on the stall. Turning back, Cor nearly squeaked in surprise as she finally saw who was running the booth.
Goblins. Six of them, darting through the empty center space. All of them were short enough to need step stools, which they moved and stood on to bargain with customers. They wore clothes pieced together out of bits of leather and cloth in a hundred shades of brown and green and gray, and their mottled skin nearly matched their outfits in tone. Sharp ears stuck out to either side of their heads, with wild white hair poking up from the skull, and huge eyes that caused them to seem innocent and childlike. They made Cor think of the puppet versions in the 80’s movie The Labyrinth.
The one closest to them, watching Cor and Youngest rather than Lotkin as it answered the spider-woman’s censure, smiled and its teeth reminded Cor of nothing so much as a piranha’s, craggy and designed for the ripping and tearing of flesh. “Surely,” it seemed amused, “they simply wanted a taste of our lovely market offerings.”
Whatever Lotkin shot back in response while towering over the counter wasn’t in English, but the tone was aggressive and mocking.
The goblin merely laughed, not at all intimidated, and while Lotkin hustled Cor and Youngest away it waved and called, “You should stop by again, once you’re free of your guard dog!”
Youngest’s hand tightened on Cor’s and he quietly asked, “If we’d eaten- what would’ve happened?”
Before Cor could remind him of her earlier warning about food, Lotkin let out a short sound of mocking disbelief. “Perhaps the schlammkinder are not so clever after all. You would have become their eternal slaves, bound by their will and tied by an endless hunger for what you had consumed, always desperate and starving for another bite. You would do all manner of things for their foods.”
Youngest was pale when he bit out, “It’d turn us humans into produce-addicted junkies for those creepy little-”
“Yes,” Cor broke in before he insulted the goblins. Lotkin could apparently get away with it. They probably couldn’t. She kept her voice down when she added, “Only the food’s draw is magical, so there’s no way to get clean.”

How To Choose Jewellery For You Face Shape And Skin Tone
In this article, we are going to provide some tips that will help you choose the perfect jewellery that goes with your face shape and skin tone.   We'll cover how to assess your skin tone and how to measure your face properly before getting into what jewellery will enhance each feature.   As always, we are happy to give you a hand in our Kirkcaldy store.  Visit our main website to see some of the styles of jewellery we have available before popping in:   https://www.akcampbell.co.uk/kirkcaldy  or give us a call on 01592 264305 and ask for Richard or Jackie.   On with the article then... First thing's first, you want to...
Determine your skin tone.
"There are two reliable ways to determine what skin tone you have. The first is to look at the colour of your veins. The second is to carefully look at your skin colour and consider its behaviour.
You have a cool skin tone if your veins are blue. Your hair is probably blonde, dark brown, or black. Your eyes are most likely light blue or brown. You also fit into this category if you burn easily or if your skin is a pale shade or shows signs of redness.
You have a warm skin tone if your veins are greener. Your hair is probably red or light blonde. Your eyes are most likely bright blue, green, or hazel. You can also tell you have a warm tone if you tan easily or your skin is ebony or espresso coloured.
You have a neutral skin tone if your skin has no obvious espresso, olive, or redness in colour. Neutral skin tones tend to fit in with the cool skin tone category.
Match your skin tone with the right jewellery.
Now that you know what your skin tone is, you can match your tone to the right gemstone and jewellery metal colours for a perfect personal collection that will look best on you.
Cool skin tone looks best with red, purple, and blue gemstones. Red stones include the ruby, garnet, and tourmaline. Purple stones include the amethyst, fluorite, and sapphire. Blue stones include the blue sapphire, topaz, and aquamarine.
Cool skin tone also matches best with white metals. Examples of this would be silver or white gold.
Warm skin tone looks best with yellow, orange, and green. Yellow/gold stones include the yellow sapphire, citrine, and zircon. Orange stones include the spessartite garnet, imperial topaz, and moonstone. Green stones include the emerald, jade, and peridot.
Warm skin tone also matches best with yellow metals. Examples of this would be yellow gold or copper.
Diamonds look good with any skin tone.
So how to figure out what shape of face you have...
  Take measurements of your face.
These measurements are going to tell you what shape of face you have so you can match your face to the best jewellery that complements that shape. You will need a flexible tape measure and something to pull back your hair (like hair clips or a hair tie). It helps to look in a mirror while you are taking measurements.
Tie back your hair so that it is out of your face. If you are using clips you can clip your hair to the back or top of your head.
Measure your hairline (in inches or centimetres). With your tape measure, place one end at your left front temple (just below the hairline), and the other end at your right temple. Write down that number.
Measure your cheekbones (in inches or centimetres). With your tape measure, place one end at the top of your left cheekbone (just above the apple of your cheek), and the other end at the top of your right cheekbone. Write down that number.
Measure your jawline (in inches or centimetres). With your tape measure, place one end at the left edge of your jawline (just below your earlobe), and the other edge of your right jawline. Write down that number.
Measure the vertical length of your face (in inches or centimetres). With your tape measure, place one end at the bottom of your chin (at the very tip), and the other end at the very top of your forehead (right at your hairline or widows peak). Write down that number.
Determine the shape of your face.
Now you can use the numbers from your measurements to figure out which shape best matches your face. Stand in front of a mirror, read the shape descriptions, and choose the one that best matches your shape and measurements.
Round faces are close to a perfect circle. The face is symmetrical across all quadrants; it is not longer than it is wider, nor wider than it is longer. A celebrity example of someone with a round face is Penelope Cruz.
Oval faces are one and a half times longer than they are wide. They are closer to a vertical circle. A celebrity example of someone with an oval face is Beyoncé Knowles.
Square faces show their shape in the jawline. People with square faces have the same width jawline and hairline.  A celebrity example of someone with a square face is Angelina Jolie.
Heart shaped faces are widest at the cheekbone and have a narrow forehead and jawline. A celebrity example of someone with a heart-shaped face is Jennifer Garner.
Diamond shaped faces have a narrow chin with a wider forehead and temples. A celebrity example of someone with a diamond-shaped face is Halle Berry.
See more from the original source here...
So, now you know what skin tone you are and what type of face shape you have, let's talk about what styles of jewellery will enhance your look...
How to choose jewellery that flatters your face
  OVAL FACE
Earrings: Hoops, chandeliers, tear drops and other soft-curve designs are the best bet for an oval face. Even angular designs are great as it can offset the roundness of an oval face. The only style you need to avoid is long shoulder-grazing earrings, since they tend to lengthen the shape of your face.   Necklaces: People with an oval face can wear almost any shape or style of necklace, provided the design is in proportion to the individual’s size. Just remember that the necklace should complement the neckline.   ROUND FACE Accessorising a round face is all about creating an illusion of length.   Earrings: Women with this face shape should opt for styles that are long and vertical, like danglers, drops or narrow chandeliers. Also, designs with strong vertical lines such as rectangles and trapezoids that counter the roundness of the face are recommended.   Necklaces: Longer, looping necklaces that visually lengthens the face are ideal choices for a round face. Necklaces with large pendants or other focal components that create a ‘V’ and longer lines are flattering too. Avoid necklace styles like chokers, collar and princess lengths.
SQUARE FACE   Accessorising a square face is all about softening the jawline.   Earrings: Large oval hoops, long drops and narrow chandelier earrings are ideal for a square face. A square face needs jewellery that adds length and camouflages the width, hence, women with square faces should avoid wearing studs and wide chandelier-style earrings.   Necklaces: Square faces need necklaces with length and curves to soften the strong jawline. Princess, matinee, opera and rope length neck pieces are ideal. It’s best if you choose pendants or other focal components with curves and swirls to counter the strong angular elements of the jaw.
OBLONG FACE   Accessorising an oblong face is all about camouflaging the length of the face.   Earrings: An oblong face is ideal for sporting large, bold styles of stud earrings and wide chandeliers. This face needs jewellery that can create an illusion of width and camouflage its length.   Necklaces: Short necklaces can reduce the appearance of length of an oblong face. Choker, collar and princess lengths are ideal, especially, if one has a long neck as well. Circular neckwires and necklaces are good too.
HEART-SHAPED FACE   Accessorising a heart-shaped face is all about creating an appearance of a narrower forehead and widening the jawline.   Earrings: This face shape needs width at chin level, so go for horizontal lines of hoops, teardrops, curves, triangles and other dangling, space-filling designs.   Necklaces: Choker, collar and princess lengths are ideal (specially for women with long neck). Multi-strand chokers, circular neckwires and short bib-style necklaces are also advisable.
TRIANGLE FACE   Accessorising a triangle face is all about creating an appearance of a wider forehead and diverting the attention from the jawline.   Earrings: The styles and designs that are most apt for this face shape are the heart-shaped ones with the narrowest part of the design at the jawline. The width should be at the level of the cheekbones, Also, ear-cuffs and other styles that curve up the ears are advisable as they create the illusion of width. One can also pair up small studs with a few narrow dangles to create more length.   Necklace: Princess and matinee length neck-pieces are ideal as they create a gentle curve under the jawline and lengthens the look of the face. Choose pendants or focal components with curves and swirls to counter the angularity of the jawline.
DIAMOND FACE   Accessorising a diamond face is all about accentuating the cheekbones.   Earrings: Avoid styles that are overly long, since the extra length doesn’t work well for this face type. To add width to the pointed jaw, wear dangling earrings with teardrops or triangle drops. You can also wear hoops to soften the angularity or echo the dramatic and angular lines of your face with triangular designs.   Necklaces: People with a diamond-shaped face can downplay the angles of the face with soft curve designs like the collar or princess neck-pieces.

How To Choose Jewellery That Enhances Your Appearance
/>
youtube
Here's some tips on selecting jewellery that will complement your particular features and shape:   Necklaces   If you are very short and want to give the perception that you are taller than you want to choose necklaces that are longer. Necklaces that are V-shaped or Y-shaped lariat's can elongate your appearance.   But what about those of you who are tall and want attention away from your height? If this is you, then you want to choose necklaces that are short either 16 or 18 inches that rest on her collarbone. Choker necklaces can also work to make you look shorter.   When choosing necklaces you also want to think about the volume or chunkiness of the necklace. A full figured gal will want a necklace that has a little bit of volume - perhaps large chunky stones or a thick link. If you are petite, however, larger jewellery may not look right on you and you may want to choose something more delicate.   A petite person may not look so good in large size jewellery.
Bracelets and Rings   A lot of times when you talk or when you're just sitting around your hands are up near your face so you want to choose your bracelets and rings so that the compliment your face as well as your hands.   Also, you want to consider your signs and whether you are large boned or small boned when choosing bracelets. If you are petite then large chunky bracelets might look awkward on you so delicate thin bracelets might be the way to go. On the other hand if you're large boned or even medium-sized you might look best with a wide bracelet or a stack of bracelets.   When choosing rings, you want to think about the shape of your finger's.  You want to make sure your ring does not go over the knuckle as this rarely looks good on any hand.   Choose smaller delicate rings if you do not want to emphasise the shortness of your fingers. Rings with an oval setting tend to look best. If you have long fingers then round settings and wide band's will probably look best on you.
