I don’t have any super recent drawings of her unfortunately and cannot get to drawing her right away which is killing me but I do have some older art of her I haven’t posted anywhere so here you go !!

A short and quick teeny tiny bit of background on her under the cut🖤⬇️⬇️

Her name is Christine Greyroot (which isn’t actually her real name but she’ll literally murder you if you call her by her real one) and also goes by Madam Greyroot for dramatic effect.

She’s my silly little manipulative, unhinged, narcissistic cursebreaker/magical creatures expert who works with my little magic council I made up and is just a little stupid sometimes. The magic council is sorta wrapped around her finger because she has dirt on almost everyone which means she can get away with whatever she wants. She is very much a shady person🖤

She’s a temporary teacher at my other character’s school (for reasons only known to her) and has a particular interest in dragons and causing chaos wherever she goes. She definitely shouldn’t be a teacher and allowed to teach period but she is actually pretty passionate about what she talks about and does take her job sorta seriously. But she does get just a little TOO into what she’s talking about every now and then, especially when she’s telling literal children about the time when she fought and killed a monster in the most graphic way possible.

She loves chaos, drama, flirting with people, and annoying/bullying her favourite tall goth woman who hates her🖤(they’re both mortal enemies). She’ll also absolutely flirt with and use you but my friend still claims her as his wife even though she’s not a very good person🫶🫶 (he really wanted me to be very clear here and write that she was HIS wife) Christine’s silly and fun but gets scary when she gets serious or just when you become one of her targets because she’s a petty bitch who will do anything and everything possible to make those who wronged her suffer.

All of her scars are from past commissions/jobs and such where she’s fought different creatures/monsters; she thinks they make her look cool and badass, someone else would strongly disagree and call her an idiot. Her left arm was bitten off by a dragon so she has a cybernetic one in place of it because I thought it just sounded cool lol.

She also has a motorcycle that she dotes on like it’s her baby (which is also what she calls it) and seems to care more for it than her own students but she’s still one of the most popular teachers there regardless and she thrives off of that popularity (because narcissist)

Her morals are very much grey and she’s hiding some very very dark secrets she intends to take to the grave no matter what but she’s also a riot who loves 80s rock music and punching things with her metal arm and I adore her and her wild self. Love a woman who could actually just kill me fr

dama cried when he finally came home to ala ghiri, after all the endwalker stuff, and his mum was there waiting at the gate for him 🥺

i should talk abt dama's mum more, shes a roe named beloved yew, she's an archer, and she took dama and ejnar in when they arrived in ala mihgo as kids after having to flee the takeover of dalmasca, it was financially hard for her but she was the first to build trust w/ the boys

shes the one that gave them their new names, dama was nonverbal as a child (he speaks now but rarely), so she initially just called him "the dalmascan kid" which over time morphed into damascus, the greyroot is bc she's a hellsguard and what else do you name a grey haired kid

ejnar's childhood name is [redacted] but eventually beloved was able to get a letter over to an anthropologist who knew some viera names so ejnar was able to choose his new male name from there, beloved isn't extremely charismatic but she is determined when it comes to networking

for a while beloved and the kids went to live in thanalan, while the situation in ala mihgo got worse (thats where dama and ejnar picked up their new brother zazakura), and beloved worked as a wild game hunter and occasional indie contract miner

she was concerned but overall supportive when zaza and dama wanted to join the gladiators guild and later the sultansworn, she didn't really Get It and couldn't teach them, but she brought mid-training lunch sometimes, and otherwise stayed home and helped ejnar with his books

she. didn't really know what was happening with dama and zaza for a long time, she kept in contact with ejnar while he studied in kugane, but other than hearing about bounties on her two oldests heads.. not much news, dama and zaza are. bad. at communicating and at being safe

she moved back to ala ghiri eventually, once it was more safe, and moved back into her old home that she now shares with another family who was living there, she made friends with them and doesn't mind the small space with no more kids to look after

she didn't know dama was even making his way home until someone spotted him in ala gannha and sent her a linkpearl message, she waited at the gate for a few hours before he arrived and collapsed in her arms, and cried, they both cried so hard

wandering characters having somewhere and someone to come home to is such an important trope for me, culmination of the heros journey etc etc

Our weekend visit to Grey County wouldn't be complete without learning a little bit about the county. Location, Location, Location - Mind Your Manor House

Hullo, Gentle Readers. Taking some inspiration from our last campaign-building article, I thought we might want to make an old ruined manor house for the PCs to explore, clear out, and perhaps make a base of operations for themselves. This is written for 5 level 1 PCs.

Background: Back when Oathford was a more prosperous town, it was part of a small fiefdom ruled by a family called the Jarelwynns. Jarelwynn Hall sat about thirty miles distant, roughly eastward, on a small hill in the Greyroot Forest. Sadly, about sixty years ago, the forces of Chaos attacked the fiefdom, and, while Oathford survived, the Jarelwynns were not so lucky. Their lovely hall fell, and the forest slowly reclaimed it.

In recent years, a group of bandits moved in. They are being courted by agents of Chaos who hope to bend them to their cause and use them to sow terror in the nearby town.

“Room” 1 – Pay the Toll. This encounter happens when the PCs leave Oathford on whatever business they might have. They find a group of bandits on the road, trying to coax them to pay a ridiculous road toll “in the name of the Lord of Jarelwynn Hall.” A DC 12 Intelligence (history) check will tell the PCs that the last Lord of Jarelwynn Hall died about sixty years ago. No one should be able to claim that title.

The group consists of four bandits and their leader, Ikthan Frostbrass. Ikthan is beginning to see the advantages of joining the ranks of Chaos and has become an acolyte. If the battle goes against him, he will cast sanctuary on himself and try to escape. If he does, a DC 12 Wisdom (survival) check will allow them to trail him back to Jarelwynn Hall. Otherwise, the PCs can follow the older tracks with a DC 17 Wisdom (survival) check.

If they fail to follow the tracks, they might be able to do some research in town with a DC 15 Intelligence (history) or a DC 15 Charisma (persuasion) check. If all else fails, there’s a fellow in town, a dwarf named Red Rock Brock, who used to be a part of the bandits. He’s willing to take the PCs to the Hall for 10 gold pieces.

Treasure: The bandits have 2d4 cp and 1d4 sp each. Ikthan has 11 sp and 3 gp, as well as a crude copper holy symbol worth 2 gp.

“Room” 2 – The Courtyard. If Ikthan escaped, then he has been able to warn the six bandits, and they are lying in wait here. They leave the gates open, and they’re in positions on top of the wall, ready to use their light crossbows to wreak havoc on the PCs.

If Ikthan did not escape, then the gates are closed, but there are only two bandits, and they are not the most attentive of guards. The PCs may be able to stealth into the compound over the walls, or to take the two bandits on the walls out before they can sound any alarm. The other four bandits are in a small common room/barn, and they will need time to get ready, thus giving the PCs the possibility of getting the upper hand.

Treasure: The bandits have 2d4 cp and 1d4 sp each.

“Room” 3 – The Manor House. The leaders of the bandits are here. If Ikthan escaped, then they are ready. The group consists of 3 bandits, their mastiff, and Erol Rugg, a thug. If Ikthan escaped, then the acolyte will be here as well, fully healed and ready to turn this into a more deadly fight.

Treasure: The bandits have 2d4 cp and 1d4 sp each. Ikthan has 11 sp and 3 gp, as well as a crude copper holy symbol worth 2 gp. Erol has 3 sp and 9 gp. They have secreted their main treasures in the undercroft.

“Room” 4 – The Undercroft. Beneath the manor house’s small chapel is an area that was meant to house the bodies of the nobles before they were properly entombed. Now it conceals the treasures that the bandits have accumulated. A DC 14 Wisdom (Perception) or a DC 12 Intelligence (Investigation) in the manor’s chapel to Valerius reveals that there are loose flagstones behind the altar. Removing these reveals a trapdoor. It is locked (DC 15 Thieves Tools use can open it), but it is also trapped. This trap can be located by a DC 15 Intelligence (Investigation) check. The altar has small holes in the back of it that might be noticed with a DC 15 Wisdom (Perception) check. Once it is found, it can be negated with a DC 15 Thieves Tools useage. If it is set off, small darts fly out of the altar, spraying the area around the trapdoor. Everyone within 5 feet of the trapdoor must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw to avoid the darts. On a hit, they do 1 point of damage, and the person hit must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or take a further 7 (2d6) poison damage.

Down in the undercroft, there are several ancient and withered bodies in niches along the walls. One has been recently disturbed (DC 13 on Wisdom [Perception] or Intelligence [Investigation] to discover this.) Beneath this bundle are the riches the bandits have accumulated: 2,079 cp, 1,055 sp, 71 gp, 5 matching copper chalices with silver filigree worth 25 gp each, a scroll of magic missile, a potion of healing, and a philter of love.

“Room” 5 – The Negotiation. If the PCs want to make the manor house a base of operations, they will need to petition the local lord, the ruler of Shieldwell Keep. This will require visiting the famous Keep on the Borderlands (and maybe some wilderness encounters along the way). Once there, they need to wait two or three days to see the Castellan. In order to gain the Castellan’s favor, they need to engage in some social negotiations. The Castellan favors straightforward honesty, is largely impervious to threats, and isn’t much for flattery. The party needs to accumulate 6 successes before incurring 4 failures. Because he is a devotee of Valerius, having a cleric or paladin of Valerius in the party counts as two automatic successes. Intimidation checks are automatically failures. Persuasion checks that are straightforward and factual have a DC 12 to succeed. If a lot of flattery is included, increase the DC to 15.

If they succeed, the Castellan grants his blessing for them to hold the manor house until such time as a proper right of rule is established or any heirs of the Jarelwynns can be found. If they fail, the Castellan sends some of his own knights to secure Jarelwynn Hall instead, and the PCs won’t be able to use it for their own.
