Henry is a complicated man, he likes to pretend that he doesn't care, that he is fine with his circumstances and that loneliness suits him but that is far from the truth. Deep down he craves connection, even if he is terrible at establishing it.

He does try to attempt to be polite but can't help but be sarcastic at times.

BACKGROUND / BIO

For what it was worth, Henry Ashford found himself agreeable to the role of middle child, letting his siblings take center stage in his parents lives, as he faded into the background. Even so he never felt unloved by his family, having a strong bond with both their siblings even now.

Henry was a somewhat peculiar child, a bit unfriendly at times opting to be upfront, fortunate for him his younger sibling made it their mission to call him out whenever necessary, and with time he mastered enough fake interest to pretend pleasantries, which allowed him to create friendships, even so as was his nature Henry did come off as rude at times, something that carried out unto adulthood.

Ever since childhood Henry has had a soft spot for museums, especially when it came to art. Most of his birthdays were spent in museums, art galleries or libraries. 

It came as no surprise when he decided to further his studies ending up as a professor, a rule that suited him well.

His life was uneventful or so that was how he liked to portray it, during his 20's Henry had grown to be quite skillful at taking things without being notice, usually jewelry that he wanted for himself, a hobby that grew into a freelance job on the side whenever he found convenient. Henry liked the beauty that came with the fine things in life, bracelets and necklaces being his favorite, growing quite the collection as he got older.

Perhaps he had grown far too ambitious and confident in his work. all good things came to an end eventually and Henry found himself in need of changing his course. 

Now Henry finds himself in Merrock, not sure of what life has in store for him.

All things concerned Vera had a happy childhood, being adopted at the young age of five to the Watkins family was the best that could have happened to her. The youngest of three siblings, Vera had always found herself to be curious of the world around her, soon showing her powers as a witch,  her strength falling into metal manipulation which she would find useful in her future. In her 20’s Vera took the leap and travelled outside of town she had found herself for most of her life to study to be a fashion designer, a path that would lead her to what she truly wanted, making jewelry, part do to the small memento she carried with her from her past life, a small pedant left by her mother, round and silver with a rose quartz in the middle. She treasures it deeply and often uses it as inspiration for her designs. Due to her business, she travels more often than she would like and it was during one of her travels that she came across Ravens Peak and decided that the quaint town would be the prefect place for her to settle. Her dream is to hopefully open her own shop to sell her designs.

TRIGGER WARNING: None Henry Ashford is the middle child of the Ashford family, somewhere along fading into the background as both his siblings took center change. It really didn’t matter to him, he enjoyed not being noticed, it meant that he could avoid being social only talking when needed. Henry had been a somewhat a peculiar child, a bit unfriendly at times, it helped that his younger sibling made it their mission to call him out whenever necessary and somewhere along the way he had mastered enough fake interest to pretend pleasantries, even if at times he couldn’t help himself coming off as rude. BIOGRAPHY

TRIGGER WARNING: None Adrian Ravenlock, knew that there wasn’t a life for him in Ravens Peak, maybe due to the family name that carried weight with it wherever he went or the fact that he had big dreams  for himself that one small town couldn’t contain. Sure he could be responsible he just choose not to, leaving as soon as he could to pursue a career in music. Things didn’t work out all that well at first, it was good magic was on his side and it helped that his ego was ever going to the point that it wouldn’t flatter, never really showing signs of stopping. One thing lead to another and finally Adrian got his big break, his band got some recognition and they were able to tour around the country, he would never admit to it but maybe there had been a bit of an enchantment here and there in the lyrics, just enough to call attention. He does come home every so often, even if he does try to avoid it but now at the age of 58 Adrian feels like he needs to give Ravens Peak a chance, who knows what might happen.

BIOGRAPHY

TRIGGER WARNING: death mention tw, gun tw, murder tw. Darragh was born into a family of Hunters. They were taught from a young age what their place would be in the world, to take pride in what their family did and in the mist of all the stories of grandeur that they had been told it was easy to see why Darra wanted to prove themselves amongst their family, sure they might not understand it all but being an only child it meant that they had to go above to show that they were worthy and for a time it seemed to work. They grew to be a fine hunter, joining a small group of others like them, a sort of second family of their own. Of course things such as this never last forever and eventually Darragh saw more of the world, their perspective slowly changing, it was in this time that they met a woman named Olivia, falling in love for the first, she taught them new things and was a bright light in their world that seemed to be occupied by death. They were ready to walk away from what they knew, no longer the young foolish child they had been, why was it that they were considered the ‘good’ ones, slaughtering whatever supernatural came about, surely they too had families just like them, friends and lovers. Their ideals started to crumble and maybe that is the reason their family started to take notice, far too much questioning on their own part. On a cold night Darragh and their group had been assigned a job, the last one for them, no longer wanting stain their hands with ever lasting blood. It was easy enough, a pack of werewolves, nothing that they hadn’t done before. Darra doesn’t remember much from that night but what they do is, as they approached the pack there was a growl, turning with their gun Darragh had come face to face with one of the wolves but there was something… familiar about their eyes, as if it knew them. Darragh should have seen it then but it had been too late, there was a gunshot noise, the snow red with crimson and then it dawned on them of who lay in it, Olivia. They didn’t take the shot but to them it was as if they had killed her themselves. They reached for her, calling her name as they held her close desperately trying to stop the bleeding, asking for help as the other hunter stood by watching with disgust. What ever devotion they held for their cause fell apart then, they had murdered her when she had done nothing but protect her own, what wrong had they even done? It was then that Darragh made their resolve.  They were disowned by their family, not that they cared much, taking their time to devote to other matters, never sticking to one place for far too long. Of course its only a coincidence that one or two hunters disappear where they visit, nothing to think about. Now they found themselves in Ravens Peak, the rumors of the town far too interesting to stay away.

Why you should definitely watch Up There (2012), a list of reasons that i didn't classify bc we're not in class

first of all, it isn't Up There (2019). not really a reason, but please don't end up watching a totally different movie knvfldkjnvc

2: for all the ppl out there who watched pacific rim and fell in love with hermann (the gay scientist in love with the other gay scientist), or for those who watched the expanse and loved adolphus murtry (if that's the case ur really weird but i respect that), burn gorman, their actor, has the leading role in it!!

3: not only has he the first role, but he's horribly adorable the whole time, AND the director made him wear mascara and khol so that's a really good reason

4: it's full of british humor (so british that sometimes i couldn't understand, their accent is incredible)

5: it's a low budget and not very known movie, so if u wanna discover niche stuff, this is DEFINITELY niche

6: kinda feels like a sad friend comforting u if u see what i mean

7: 2 friends constantly bickering, one grumpy and pragmatic, the other enthusiastic and excessively extroverted, need i say more

8: it's short (80min) so u can watch it every week if u feel like it!!!

9: there's an ENTIRE fandom to create (yes 9 years after it went out), there's only 1 fic on ao3 for it and it's NOT EVEN abt the movie itself

To Dr. Cornelius or Dokk, Out of curiosity do Mudokons and other species are prone to the same disorders/disabilities and diseases/Illnesses as us ‘Gray faced’ people? Like for example Migraines (I’m prone to them and those are the WORSE)

Dokk: “Actually we do suffer some disabilities or disorders as you do. Mental and physical ones.

My caretaker is really prone to migranes himself. A lot of those migranes are set off by stress, or sometimes he gets bad ones when he is near places with really loud noises. Like the sound of a train horn constantly going off.

it's one of the reasons he's so grumpy all the time. he has them constantly. guess you could consider it chronic for him.

We have illnesses that you guys might be familiar with, such as cancer, but they work differently depending on the species.

Some Diseases are unique to the certain races and species of oddworld.

We also have unique versions of Food-borne illnesses.

You ever heard of Gorman Disenza? The Disease that only affects the extremely rich? The disease is contained within Gabbit Blood. Gabbits lived with this disease and it does no harm on their own bodies. But when you consume either parts of them… or gabbit eggs, it passes the disease onto those that consume these items…

We might have found the source of it, but we currently have no cure for Gorman Disenza. And once you get it, you are stuck with it.

Gorman Disenza is a death sentence, and glukkons have tried to avoid dying by cryogenically freezing themselves until a cure is found.

As of now: Gabbits are considered a protected species, but that doesn’t stop some greedy vykkers or glukkons from wanting to experiment with oddworld’s creatures despite them being on the verge of extinction.”

Torchwood Positivity

I’m just gonna say the things I like about the main characters of Torchwood cause I love all of these disasters so fucking much and just wanna share and spread that love. :)

Gwen: Fucking beautiful woman, bless Eve Myles and bless the costume department that kept putting her in those hella hot jackets, love her kickass and independent attitude and how it lets her call the others out when they are being assholes or not thinking about moral repercussions, I love how good and kind she can be and how focused she can get on helping and comforting people and just being there for them and how she really does wanna have a balance between Tochwood and her regular life because it is important to have both so that there’s some light in your life, I love what she was supposed to be and don’t blame her those moments where the writing made her unlikable, it aint her fault the men can be idiots 

Jack: Old captain dad man loves his team with all of his heart and it just absolutely warms my heart, like the scene in Adam in the boardroom just says so much about how much he loves and cares for all of them and I just love him so much, I never really got into Dr. Who so Torchwood is really where I got to know him and I’m so happy cause I love how he is in Torchwood, personally I feel like he’s just the right mix of playful and promiscuous to angsty and cold, is good man even though he doesn’t always realize it, I also love his general presence as a character, how he steps into a scene and just fills that scene with his very essence, love it, also John Barrowman seems like an absolute delight as a person 

Owen: He’s grumpy and an ass and pokes fun at everything and I fucking love it, he’s had such a hard past and it’s made him into a total grump but it was that initial past that drove him to be a doctor, he took that original trauma and wanted to help people, to make a difference, after Katie he became even more moody and emotionally unstable but he really does try and there are so many good little moments sprinkled into the show where you can see just how much he cares about this little team, he can be really soft when he lets himself and especially towards the end of season two he gets more and more soft and from a character arc perspective I’m glad that last minute chose to have Owen be the one to be the living dead instead of Ianto cause it’s such a fascinating arc that works perfectly well for Owen who, in a sense, has been the living dead this whole time, enjoying drinking and having sex and fighting but not really enjoying it or living it, also mad respect to Burn Gorman cause honestly how can you help but respect a man who tried to steal a whole ass bathtub from a hotel when he was drunk off his ass? Mad respect 

Tosh: Eternally sad that we never got to hear more about her backstory but also super happy that she kind of had the most metal ‘origin’ story as to how she became a part of Torchwood, she is fucking beautiful and marvelous and also literally the most relatable character for me, she tries and I love her so much for it, I wish that she had gotten better hope in love before she died but at the very least the relationship she did have, as short as they were, seemed to make her happy when she was in them, I love how even though she’s the most subdued and shy of the lot she still has her snarky moments and isn’t afraid to tell the others off for bulldozing around her

Ianto: My boy, my favorite of the lot, how could he not be everyone loves Ianto, he’s just so good, lemma say that, even as a huge lesbian, Gareth David-Lloyd is a very attractive man who has most certainly only gotten better with age, putting him in suits was the greatest decision the costume department could have made, I love the emotional range of Ianto and how there are so many sides to him while still being consistent and in-character that it always feels like we’re finding out something new about him without rehashing something we’ve already seen before, I love seeing the shift in him being happier and with more of a sense of belonging in season 2 cause, really, it’s what he deserves

Edit: Updated to reflect the new addition of Silvarbelle’s character, Cairis. Link to character blog has been provided under the Read More cut. Minor tweaks have also been given to other characters.

               Like any respectable department, Valoren does not work alone as a propagandist. While she serves as “The Voice” and the leader of the Propaganda and “Public Resources and Education” Department (which is just the fancy way of saying she makes other high-up officials look good in propos and makes radio broadcasts about them, or lies for them), there is no conceivable way that she could do her job alone. Instead, she does have a distinct team that she partially inherited from her mentor (well, those that didn’t quit, anyway), and others that she hand-picked for the job.

Koje

They/Them, Male Presenting; ~30

Cold-Climate galra. Floof.

Slightly aloof in personality, but possibly the most devoted of the workers. Rumoured to be tagged as Valoren’s protege and named to take her place as Voice should anything happen to her. Operates almost as her Second in Command.

Has no problem speaking up to Valoren when they feel she is in the wrong and is quick to shut her down if she is stepping out of line with superiors.

Cairis

As played by Silvarbelle. Visit her blog for more in-depth information on the character and to play with her. I encourage it!  This character is not one that I own. She just works for my girl.

She/Her, Female Presenting; 25

Acquired by sheer happenstance -- Koje first vouched for her, which gave her a foot in the door. Valoren agreed to allowing her on the team based on his recommendation and, thus far, has been very pleased with the results that Cairis has yielded for her.

Jostann has unofficially adopted Cairis as her own child and has a habit of babying, spoiling, and tending to her as if she were her own. 

Torvull likes her puns. Torvull shares puns with her. The less pun-enthusiastic may not be so pleased by this development.

Noveena

She/Her, Female Presenting; 19-20.

Has a little bit of floof, but she styles it like one of those french poodles. Pastel colours.

Valoren refers to her as having eyes “set too close together” and ears “too large for her head.” It gives her a very youthful appearance, especially combined with her pastel colouration and her chipper personality.

Comes from a family of wealth and status -- Noveena voluntarily took up a position in Valoren’s department because of idol worship towards the Voice. Valoren hates it.

She is actually an extremely competent worker and produces some of the most gorgeous propaganda posters and artistic edits -- however, Noveena takes hours to do it. The results are immaculate, but time consuming.

Rojeon

He/Him, Male Presenting; 29

Galra based heavily off a peacock. Has soft feathering and plumage that is far too colourful for his own good. Comes from a very warm, tropical climate.

Keeping in the peacock theme, has a bit of an obnoxious voice and is banned from making any broadcasts himself, but could not ask for a better film editor. He has an amazing critical eye and can pull the best angles for the perfect spin on footage to tell a different story.

Is a very cocky individual and a bit full of himself. The rest of the team put up with it.

Jostann 

She/Her, Trans; 30s

Half Galra. [TBD further information on this ]

The “mom” of the team, Jostann is the one that has a tendency to fuss over the team, make sure that they have eaten, gotten their sleep, etc. She has a bad habit of looking at the team as her kids that she must protect -- and will.

Brilliant sound editor. Can make audio transmissions do things that no one else on the team can. Has been able to isolate and fix transmissions that the rest thought were absolutely beyong repair with a few clicks. Saved the program more than once.

Valoren chose her to save her from expulsion due to her crossbreed status. Now that Jostann’s talents have come to light, she is very grateful she did.

Orirn

He/Him, Male Presenting; 40s

Think if Burn Gorman were a Galra. That is pretty much what you have with Orirn.

Codenamed “The Grumpy One” by the rest of the team, Orirn rarely has a kind word to exchange. Usually it’s displeased grunts or sarcastic drawls, but he does the job and he does it well.

As it turns out, the bitterness stems from the loss of his mate a few cycles back. This information is undisclosed to the rest of the team. He actually does care about them and would be one of the first to defend the Propaganda Department if it came to it...he’s just going through a tough time right now. Plus, bitter is just part of his personality.

Born with a mal-formed right leg that was removed and replaced with Galra-tech. His family was poor, however, and he was unsuccessful in terms of military careers and did not receive very good tech. It constantly breaks and has worn down dramatically, forcing Orirn to often resort to using a cane to stabilize himself when walking. It doesn’t seem to slow him down very much, but it can cause him a great deal of discomfort.

Torvull

He/Him, Male Presenting; Mid 20s

Unilu.

The rest of the team had their extreme doubts when Valoren introduced the concept, especially with the stereotype that comes with Unilu, but a good argument was made: with how many arms an Unilu has, think of how many cameras one could operate simultaneously for film propos!

Torvull was an acquisition from the Galran prisons. There might have been an exchange of information, coins, and some blackmail from Valoren and her team for him. Torvull is eternally grateful.

Having said all of that, he is a pain in the ass. He is a smart mouth, wise-cracking, pun-loving, practical joker. Valoren is about three tics from throwing him back into his prison cell.

Lufir

He/Him, Male Presenting; Early 20s

Warm Climate-Based Galra -- Probably a desert clime.

Lufir is the newest addition, and the one that everyone questions because he perpetually messes up. Put a camera in his hands? He drops it. Give him footage to edit? He deletes it. Ask him to make a poster? You’ll find him lying on the floor, crying, with the deadline steadily approaches.

They can’t figure out why she picked him. Lufir can’t figure out why she picked him.

Most that are hired in to work for her tend to only last for a short period. They either buckle under the pressures that she places on them to run the programs, or they can’t handle her at her absolute worst when she is approaching a deadline. Those listed are the ones that have managed to actually stay for the long haul.
