In a moment of hyperfixation, I pledged myself to a new project. At first, I created playlist of songs in britpop that reminded me of Beatles music (the link to which is down below). The musicians of britpop drew a lot of inspiration from the Beatles, and they’re the natural sequelae for Beatles fans.
After noticing that certain britpop seemed to pull from certain Beatles periods, however, I widened my breadth. This has brought me to creating “remakes” of the Beatles 11 studio albums + MMT.
Here’s my current problem: there is a LOT of music, and I don’t know all of it. I love Blur and Oasis, but my catalogue is severely lacking in variety, especially in female voices of the time. So, I’m asking for your help!
If you have any songs from 1990-2000ish with a britpop/UK garage rock sound that remind you of a Beatles song or album, please send them my way! I will happily credit you in the playlist descriptions and my eventual article on this.
Guigsy appreciation time. Please please please have a listen. Oasis sound even better when we can actually hear the bassline. Guigs wasn't the finest bass player ever BUT he did what he was supposed to do and he did it good enough, at least for the first album. Liam appreciation is a given. Oof
What amazes me most about this bloody band is about how lazy they were. Noel Gallagher slapped on the four most basic chords for Wonderwall and now it's that song that literally everybody knows. Teens play to pretend they know how to play the guitar. It's iconic. The whole band was a bunch of basics. Liam had never sang in his life, Guigsy could only play the most basic basslines. Noel isn't actually great at the guitar (surprised me) and his writing is a load of lazy nonsense.
AND LOOK WHERE THEY ARE NOW. They're actually so lucky and lazy. I wish I could have their amount of dumb sheer luck.
