Wait...could this be a #MacroMonday shot?? I used to do these all the time! What happened? Here is my buddy's 1964 #Gibson #SG #Standard. Well at least the neck pickup volume knob anyway... Apart from its minty vibrant cherry finish and perfectly aged nickel hardware, this guitar is also a fine player. It's definitely one of those "if I had this one I wouldn't need any others" guitars. Well...except I'd be too afraid to take it out to gigs! 🤣

1965 #Gibson #GA17 RVT #Scout #Amplifier.

At the time I got it, this was the least expensive vintage amp I had ever bought, although my 1966 Traynor YGA1 has since been acquired for slightly less. Between the two of them though, I got a ton of great sound and vintage character…both of them together cost less than half the price of what 1965 Fender Champ sells for today!

That tone-to-dollar ratio is hard to beat. 😉

1968 #Telecaster headstock (recto and verso shots). Frankly, I can't be arsed to do BOTH a #MacroMonday AND #TeleTuesday post, so I am combining them. I give you the very first ever "TacroMuesday"! No? OK, how about "MeleTuenday"? 🤔 One note on the headstock decal: look at the edge of the "...der" in #Fender in the first shot. From this angle, you can clearly see that the gold edge around the letters is raised slightly. The decals of this era were not just flat, the actually have an embossed edge thanks to the silk screening process. This is just one more example of how reissues consistently fail to precisely reproduce the originals...I have yet to see a reissue of a late 60s Tele with anything other than a completely flat decal...even the Custom Shop reissues, which you would expect to be more accurate. 1988 #Fender#RedKnobTwin, purchased new, by me in late august or early September of 1988.

For those of you that aren't aware of this amplifier, it was born out of the meltdown of CBS and resurrection of Fender in the mid 80s. The new FMI company had bought Sunn Amps of Lake Oswego, Oregon, and THIS is the first amp they decided to release. ONE HUNDRED watts from FOUR 6L6s and the most complex and, some would say, sonically flexible circuit imaginable. 2 channels (clean, and gain with a master volume), with 4 inputs (2 normal and 2 connected so that both channels can be played through at the same time), reverb switchable to ch 1, 2 or both, boosts or cuts on every tone knob, Presence control, and a High/Low switch to flip between 100 and 25 watts output.

Don't even get me started on what is available 'round back: effects loop, bias adjustment, output impedance adjustment (4, 8, 16 ohms) switch for adding on different cabs, power amp thru (not sure...something to do with connecting a bunch of these together...although I have no idea why anyone would EVER need more than one of these!), XLR line out, External speaker jacks (series and parallel!)...

This was WAY more amp than I ever needed, and I wish I had known about vintage gear at the time - a mid 60s Princeton Reverb would have been perfect for my needs. But hindsight is 20/20, and in a way I am still glad I own this often maligned but interesting piece of Fender/Sunn amp history!

PS: I did end up buying that 1965 Princeton though...precisely 30 years later!

Oh oh, here comes Treble...

Hey - it wouldn't be Macro Monday without at least one knob shot, right?

Does anyone know anything about #SunnAmps? The most I can find on Internets is that this model (a #Sentura I) was made in the late 60s or early 70s and *is probably* 60 watts? It is at Casa DeeBeeUs™ from @michaelsegui in transit to our Collective amp tech @marshalllespaulfan for a tune tune up.

I don't know how it sounds yet...since it hasn't been switched on in well over a year I have not powered it up. If the @vintageampspodcast has learned me anything, it's that you need to switch your amps on every few months or bad things can happen like explosions and such! I'll let my amp tech worry about powering it up safely (he's got the VARIAC...I do not!). But I understand that this amp is L.O.U.D.!

It will be serviced, given a thorough cleaning, and will be put up for sale eventually, so keep you eye on this space. I wish I could afford it (I always wanted a vintage #Sunn!)

If this is a knob, it must be #MacroMonday! 1965 #Gibson #GA17 RVT Scout #Amplifier. Many thanks to @mitchhol for letting me have this one! These Gibson "#Crestline" #amps are super interesting to photograph and I am hoping to collect more of them in future. From what little information is available on internets they appear to have been made from 1962 to ~1966. Did you know they came in two different "looks" as well? It's true! Gibson made them in two different finishes so the fashionable guitarist could properly accessorize with their surroundings! Take that Fender! Look "number one" (arbitrarily labeled as such by me lol) is what I have heard people call "brown" because cause the tolex is a brown-ish colour. The grill cloth on "look one" is um...what would you call it? Maroon-ish? IDK how to describe it, but it is dark with yellow accents? "Look two" is referred to as "black" because it has black tolex and a white/cream grill.
