gule gardiner is yellow curtains in norwegian, it’s from skam when isak and even were talking about parallel universes 🧡

Okay but can we focus on the important stuff: The curtains were YELLOW. Tabasco. Muppet fight!!! Yellow curtains. Martino looking at Niccolò like THAT. Niccolò was just out there calling him ‘Marti’ Gule Gardiner Did I mention the curtains were actually yellow? Isak valtersen is shook

Skam Season 4 - one year ago
21/06/2017 - Tirsdag
Even: You don´t know what he has to deal with the other 363 days of the year. He´s way too good for me.
Chris: That´s not what I see. I see a boyfriend who is more than good enough. Someone who has made a pretty mad boy into a pretty happy boy.
***
Isak: Hey!
Even: Hello!
*they smile & kiss*
Isak: Wow!
Even: I'll let you open it yourself.
Isak: Beer at school? How amazing!
Even: Cheers.
Isak: Cheers.
Even: Did you find the movie yet?
Isak: No, I haven't. I can't find it. I don't know where the fuck it is.
Even: It's on YouTube.
Isak: It's on YouTube? That helps a lot. Like... there are ten billion videos there.
Even: But if you don't get the title, then you won't be able to see it.
Isak: Can you give me a little hint?
Even: It starts with G.
Isak: G? I tried gule gardiner (yellow curtains), but it wasn't that.
Even: That's not far away.
Isak: Seriously? Green curtains? Gray curtains? The Genius at Hartvig Nissen?
Even: It's okay that you are, but I would never write that in the title.
Isak: What is it then?
Even: I'm not telling.
Isak: G... The God?
Even: Yes.
Isak: The God. That's me.
Even: The movie is called “The God“. You think so?
Isak: That's good.
Even: You think so?
Isak: I'm going to check it out.
Even: Do you think I would've called a movie: “The God“?
Isak: Yes, if it was about me.
Even: That's so pretentious.
*they laugh & kiss*
***
A man: Get a room guys, fags!
Isak: Hm? What did he say? What? What did you say?
A man: It's fucking disgusting.
Isak: What the fuck. Do you think you can walk around and just do stuff like that? Come here! Come here! What the fuck! Fucking cunt face! You're ugly, you know that?!
Even: Hey you.
Isak: I just can't with stuff like this. He can't just..
Even: Look at me.
Isak: He can't say stuff like that.
Even: Look at me.
Isak: Yes! Yes!
Even: It's fine. Okay? Now let's take this completely chill, and then we'll go meet our friends, and then we'll go to the park...and then we'll drink beer. Okay? Okay? Hm? Okay?
*they hug & kiss*
***
Even: Shall we go?
Isak: Yes.

Subtext and Culture, Season 4, Episode 10
Subtext: Vilde knows that Chris just got here, but she told her to wait outside, and she looks really scared when the doorbell rings, which means that she doesn’t want Chris to come in. She’s hiding her private life even from Chris, her best friend.
Subtext: Sobril is a trade name for Oxazepam, an anti-anxiety drug that’s also used to treat alcohol withdrawal, which means that Vilde’s mom is struggling with alcoholism or mental illness, or both.
Subtext: Vilde lies to her mom about who was at the door, and she lied to the guy at the door about her mom. We also see her going through household bills, so she’s parentified, taking care of the household, taking responsibility, and shielding her mom.
Culture: The show is full of socio-economic markers, and how Vilde lives tells us a lot more about her. When the other characters either live in nice single-family houses, or in nice, large, inner city apartments, Vilde lives in a smaller apartment with her single mom, further out in the suburbs of Oslo. While the other characters are all comfortably middle-class or upper middle-class, Vilde isn’t, her family struggles with money, so she is probably lower middle-class.
Subtext: P-Chris’ dream is a direct foreshadowing of what he will do later in the episode when he asks Emma out right in front of both Eva and Jonas.
Subtext: Eva says she’s doing “nothing in particular”, which means that she’s lying to her friends about sleeping P-Chris, and that she doesn’t think what they have is very serious. That’s gotta hurt, even for unrepentant fuckboys like him.
Throwback: The final episode is full of throwback references to things that happened earlier in the series. The same name joke is of course a reference to P-Chris meeting girl Chris in the very first episode in season 1.
Subtext: Jonas is embarrassed about dating Emma, he’s lying to her about not being embarrassed, and he’s lying to his friends about what he’s doing, telling them he was at McDonalds, and not that he was hanging out with her.
Throwback: Julian Dahl gets an honorable mention, is fleshed out a bit, and appears to be a bit of an odd guy that everyone knows.
Blink and you miss it: Magnus is trying not to laugh at Vilde for not knowing Mahdi wasn’t Muslim. He’s known at least since season 3, when he tries to make a joke about it just before Isak comes out to them.
Subtext: Vilde is actually completely wrong about Eva and P-Chris. He’s more into her than the other way around, Eva is just having fun and enjoying the sex.
Throwback: Jonas posted on Instagram back in season 1 about him and Eva watching Fresh Prince and eating nachos.
Subtext: Vilde says she wants to borrow money from Chris for clothes, but as we saw in Vilde’s clip, she’s probably actually asking to borrow money to cover bills like the maintenance fees for her apartment.
Subtext: And for the last time ever the show has a conversation about one thing, that applies perfectly to the main character. Eva is talking about kosegruppa, but accidentally inspires Chris to try to help out Vilde more.
Blink and you miss it: The model penis has been joined by a pile of condoms and two bottles of lube. I hope Dr Skrulle has gotten better at showing people how to put on a condom since last time…
Subtext: Chris is directly echoing what Dr Skrulle said to her, but re-writes it to apply to Isak instead.
Culture: Since both Isak and Even are 18 years old at this time, they can legally buy beer, and drink it outside school.
Lost in translation: Yellow curtains is “gule gardiner” in Norwegian, which starts with ‘g’.
Not lost in translation: William and his dad talk to each other in English, which probably means that his dad doesn’t just live in London, he is from England originally.
Throwback: Noora is referencing the fact that William wrote the entire May 17th article for her, and that he did a damn good job of it.
Subtext: Given the bench talk with Sana in episode 7, and after getting shit himself for making out with Even, Isak probably realized how much more shit Sana gets than him, and how strong she is for being able to handle it better than he would.
Subtext: William straight up lies to his dad. He never talks to Noora about moving back to London, because he already knows it’s the wrong thing to do for both her and him, so he just makes the call then and there to stay in Oslo with Noora.
Subtext: Surrogate parents Eskild and Linn are having the exact same conversation as if they were Noora’s real parents, and as if she was moving away for the first time, and they deal with it like good parents would.
Cinematography: Throughout the entire season we’ve seen Sana wear nothing but black and white clothes, but now in the finale, Sana wears the most colourful clothing, outshining everyone else, instead of trying to hide and blend in the background as before.
Lost in translation: Magnus mouths “går det bra?” to Vilde. “You doing ok?”
Lost in translation: The ending montage contains screenshots of online conversations between real viewers of the show, both from the official show website, and from fan groups on Facebook. I tried adding subtitles for these comments, but it completely diminished the impact of Jonas’ speech. But here’s what these four commenters are saying:
“Sana needed this so much! And damnit, I did too!”
“I feel this group has become a large, nice, alternate family”
“Yes, I’m gay, and Evak opened…”
“Crying, because I’m Vilde.”
Now I’ve been happy lately
Thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be
Something good has begun
Oh, I’ve been smiling lately
Dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be
Someday it’s going to come
‘Cause I’m on the edge of darkness
There ride the Peace Train
Oh, Peace Train take this country
Come take me home again
And done, finally. I hope you all have enjoyed reading this series of posts, and that I helped you find new details, new things in the show that you missed, despite having seen it a million times already. Feel free to comment on the posts, or throw me an ask if I missed something, or is horribly wrong about something, or if there’s something still that is lost in translation.
But for now, takk for alt, och tack för mig.
