Cradle Snatcher Pt . 3

Summary: Curiosity gets the better of you and you take a pregnancy test. After finding out the fated answer, your world turns upside down but for a whole other reason.

A/N: So I had NO idea how I was going to continue this series and then I went “oh yeah. Zombies” So let’s do this! I apologize for it being short. Consider it a prologue~

The sound of the heel of your dominant foot hitting the ground sounded through the stall of the police station women’s bathroom. You had your head in one hand, elbow sitting atop your knee while the other hand held a pregnancy test in shaky fingers. You were late. You had planned to check when you got home but the curiosity and assurance for what is going on ate at you until finally you went out to grab a test during your lunch break. You had gotten a weird look from the cashier but anyone would think twice about asking a cop what they were doing with that. Plus, it was none of their business anyway. 

Biting your bottom lip, a part of you dreaded the answer. Yes, you had asked for it and with gusto but for some reason you thought that it wouldn't happen. It had only been a week since you and Leon had that amazing encounter and since you two decided to be together. In that week, however, you did not prepare yourself for this possibility at all. And when you were sure that the required time had passed, you checked the stick and you felt your stomach flip. You were pregnant, alright. 

You let out a shaky sigh, leaving the stall to rid yourself of the test in the nearest trash can. You kind of tucked it away in the recesses of the bin, not wanting your colleagues to be nosy. You really should have waited until you got home. 

You washed your hands, the looming feeling of your consequences hanging over your head and molding into your shoulders. You sigh once more and wash your face with cold water. Grabbing the lip of the sink after turning off the faucet, you look into the mirror and wryly chuckle. “You better tell him.” You tell yourself, the utter fear of what he would think and do rearing its ugly head in the back of your mind. A large part of you knew that he was a man of his word - that he would wed you and be there for you every step of the way. But what did you truly want? You were still so young and there was still so much to do! 

Either way, this conversation was meant for two and you were going to need to talk to Leon as soon as you could. You rub the back of your neck, turning on your heel to leave the bathroom before you hear gunshots sounding from somewhere further into the building of the precinct. Screams and yells of commands reached your ears as you heard running footsteps coming and passing by the bathroom. You grab your gun from your holster, fast walking to the door before pressing your back against the wall. You listen first, cries of pain and scuffling filling the outside hallway. You turn the knob of the bathroom door and immediately a heavy force flies into it. 

You let out a scream of surprise and cover your mouth in instinct, the sight of a bloodied colleague making your eyes widen. Suddenly, they began to twitch slightly, you holstering your gun to run to their aide. “How hurt are you? What’s going…” You trail off from your train of thought, a scene of utter gore before your very eyes. One side of their jaw was hanging from a sinew of muscle, as if something had chewed into their cheek. Their eyes said death but somehow they were still moving. They let out a guttural groan and you back up quickly. 

“S-Stay back!” You warn as you take out your gun once more. However, they seemed to either ignore you or just not understand what you said as they continued to get up. Once back on their feet, they turned to you and shuffled at you at a rather disturbing rate. “STOP!” You scream but left with no other choice, a single bullet leaves the chamber of your gun and into your colleague’s forehead. Immediately they stopped their assault and tripped over their feet, you stumbling backwards to keep from being pinned against the corner from the slumped body. In the process, however, you knocked over the trash can that contained your pregnancy test, the contents of the bin flying across the sleek flooring. 

But you couldn’t bring yourself to care at the moment, you needed to find out what was going on and why you just had to shoot your co-worker. You run out of the bathroom only to find a hallway of horror. 

Viscera lined the flooring of the now blurry-lit hallway. A few pods of people cowering over something spread out throughout the area. You didn’t have the stomach to see just what it was those things were doing. But if you had to guess from what you’ve seen and what you can hear as they rip at whatever was once alive, you imagined that they were feeding. So, the undead were real, huh? But, why now? Why here? Was the whole city like this? 

The sudden realization that Leon was supposed to be coming today hits you and you run to the main office to send out a call to him

Leon hummed to himself as he put together the necessary items he needed for his first day at the precinct; his gun, some paperwork, and some other misc things such as a small bouquet. He had gotten you flowers, the sap that he was, and wanted to surprise you with them. While this would definitely raise eyebrows at the station, he felt that your colleagues should know about you two sooner rather than later. 

Suddenly, the sound of his house phone ringing pulled him from his packing and he tilted his head to the side in curiosity. Who would be calling him? He wasn’t expecting anyone…Then, remembering that the station existed, he immediately ran to the landline and picked it up. “Kennedy residence.” He said, but he was nowhere near prepared to hear you yelling from the other side of the line. “Leon?!” 

Your frantic voice was more than enough for him to go into protect mode, Leon’s previous giddiness becoming overshadowed by utter worry. “[Y/N]? What’s wrong, why are there gunshots in the background?!” This situation was becoming more and more dire and he could feel the muscles in his legs twitching. He was ready to go get you but he needed to be sure that you were safe first. “Leon, do not come! Do you hear me?! It’s not safe-” The dead dial tone resonated in Leon’s ear and he slammed the receiver with force. 

Without a second thought, he grabbed his gun and ammo, swiping up his jeep keys as he flew out of the house. All he could do now was pray that you were okay and that he would get to you in time.

Episode Ratings/Thoughts:

Even though these episodes are supposed to be primarily about the conflict between Heero and Zechs, Trowa is the real MVP. I love that he gives Heero his Gundam, and I love that when he needs to, he’s like well, Heero owes me, and just jumps right into Wing. He fights with Noin because he’s like someone should know what they’re doing, and then he steps in again at the end to give Heero and Zechs the time they need. I am also just shocked after all the Gundam switching that people don’t ship 1x3 more... Also, I know I’ve said this before, but I want to like Relena. I really do. But she’s the worst. I hated 20 years ago, and I hate her now. 

What I think I remember for the next episode(s):

We finally get to see Heero and Quatre again after a pretty long arc without them. I think we start heading into space again soon? Oh, and I think we get the iconic scene where Zech’s helmet breaks and he returns to Milliardo.

I’ve always found this surprisingly profound, especially since my mother, a naturalized US citizen, has similar opinions about parents in Taiwan coddling their children. (Taiwan has the same age of majority as Japan, 20 years old.)

And Japan’s crime rate is also a lot lower. But Ash is right, Ibe, you aren’t in Japan and you have very dangerous people with very dangerous guns after you all.
