Tried to find a picture showing how the agricultural landscape looks like in mälardalen (were i live).

This one was the best i could find

This is of gysinge in Södermanland. In typical fashion of the part of sweden i am from its farmland is in small patches in the valleys between higher cliffs (former islands).

The crop fields one sees outside ones windows when travelling through the landscape are NEVER neverending, in fact one useally got forests in all directions quite clearly visible.

What one can also see in the distance is the industral forest farming. That are those. Square cut down patches in the forests

And some wetlands too!

(This picture is via the swedish national heritage board. Which is a confusing name. But it is were swedens archeologists employed by the state works. Among things. So it us supposed to show a typical Sörmland "kulturlandskap".)

“Sörgården” reproduction 19th century wallpaper by Gysinge

A typical wallpaper from the end of the 19th century in a muted blue tone with a beige ground. The wallpaper is a reproduction of an old wallpaper fragment of unknown origin. The simple but detailed checkerboard pattern fits both in older houses and in a more modern environment.

The weather was very nice yesterday so me, my friend, and another friend who has a car went to Gysinge where we looked at old workmen's dwellings from the 1890's and walked around a bit in a nature reserve. The path was in some places an abandoned railroad track and included two bridges over the Dal River. Really mighty.

Breaking news anno 19th century sweden:

Northern factory owners build absurd wealth symbols on the top of a hill. Tries to create fears among employees, unaware they just made themselves very easy political targets

The owners of gysinge factory built thenselves this very majestic mansion

In a swedish context, and particular a northern swedish context this like. One heck of a mansion size and decoration wise.

One absurdity is the size, which in a swedish context is starting to near swedish royalty castle size which. Just too large.

But the other absurdity is this. From this angle it might look fancy. But when i say factory town, i dont mean that it is a town which depends on the factory. Gysinge is a bruksamhälle. This means that the all of the town is the factory + dwellings for the factory workers

The result. This is the fancy house of the factory owners. What they can see from their windows. The chimneys and smoke from their factories. And not. You know far away. No, literally a stone throw away from their door.

And everyone in the town, literally their employee

The entire thing is like. A semi - feudal structure to industry keeping

“Farstun” reproduction early 1800s Swedish wallpaper by Gysinge in gray

"Farstun" is a typical Hälsingland stencil damask wallpaper from the first half of the 19th century. In Sweden the era is called the Karl Johan period after the reigning monarch, and the fashion was for silk-imitating patterns in sober colors. Very few could afford silk wallpapers. Most had to make do with imitations, usually in the form of stenciled patterns in distemper paint (of mineral pigment and animal glue binders) on rag paper. The middle class, priests and urban merchant classes, could not afford an expensive silk damask either, but instead turned to local painters who became masters at imitating fabric patterns with the help of stencils and silk-like colors. The farmers ultimately also embraced the fashion with stenciled wallpapers, but translated the wallpaper patterns into bright folk art colors. We have found this wallpaper in several farms in the Järvsö area, where the color scheme blue, gray, red is the most common and the wallpaper that most connects to the farmers' traditional colors. The more subdued color schemes in the catalog, on the other hand, are more typical of the 19th century and Karl Johan period. Standard wallpapers are almost always combined with a single-colored dado up to window height, of wood or of gray cardboard paper. This makes the rooms tranquil and creates harmonious proportions, even if the wallpaper patterns happen to be bold and colorful.
