Lorimer: Decades of Style - 2010s
HRH Dahlia, The Duchess of Westcott, née Lady Dahlia Tindale (born June 2, 1985) married Prince Patrick at Herriot Cathedral in Gaucelin, Iverny on June 14, 2008. She is the younger daughter of Earl Stuart Tindale and his late ex-wife Lady Ramona Houston, a former lady-in-waiting to Queen Laura and a prominent member of Ivernian aristocracy in her own right. The Duchess of Westcott’s mother was a notable socialite and activist for nearly twenty years up until her tragic death in 1999. Lady Dahlia and her sister Adella were childhood playmates of the King and Queen’s children, but Lady Dahlia did not become romantically linked to Prince Patrick until 2005. Following their 2008 engagement and wedding, the Duchess became an international fashion icon, renown for her timeless and elegant monochromatic taste. She shares with her husband the patronage of the Royal Ivernian Arts Council and follows in her mother’s footsteps as a champion of ending childhood hunger around the globe.
April 2011- The Duke and Duchess of Westcott attend the wedding of Prince William of Wales and Miss Catherine Middleton in London, England in place of HM The King. The Duchess wore a royal blue silk dress with a matching fascinator.
October 2012- The Duchess of Westcott, in a charming hunter green wool dress and mustard heels, speaks with physicians, nurses, and medical assistants at the Royal Lorain Hospital.
May 2013- The Duchess of Westcott wows at the annual Chanterry Film Festival in a bespoke strapless white gown and matching opera gloves. She paired the gown with Queen Joan's Pearl Garland Necklace.
July 2014- The Duchess attends an engagement on behalf of the Royal Children's Trust in a short-sleeved rose pink dress and matching hat. After the announcement of her third pregnancy in April 2014, the Duchess debuted a new shoulder-length bob hairstyle. The hairstyle was unfortunately short lived, as the Duchess returned to her signature long waves by 2016.
September 2014- The Duke and Duchess of Westcott attend the Caerinion State Dinner. The Duchess's appearance at this dinner was unexpected, and was her last appearance before the birth of her daughter Princess Frederica in October 2014. However, the Duchess still amazed in a seafoam green Grecian-inspired dress and the Maloret Garland Tiara.
March 2016- The Duchess of Westcott speaks to a young student at St. Anne's Primary School in Bethencort. The Duchess wore a beautiful red lace pencil dress and matching heels.
December 2017- The Duchess, wearing a shimmering metallic lavender evening gown, speaks with guests at the annual Advent Ball at Clemons Palace. The Duchess paired the bespoke gown with her late mother's Houston Arch Tiara, on loan to her from her grandmother, Sophie Styrne-Montague Houston, Duchess of Plamondon.
September 2019- The Duchess poses with her youngest child, Princess Frederica of Westcott, outside Wreatham Park Chapel before the wedding of The Prince Joseph and Miss Penelope Medeiros. The Duchess wore a canary yellow coatdress with pieces of the Pugh Ruby Parure.

Could you maybe explain what is inaccurate with those two dresses? I know a little bit about 18th century fashion and they look fine to me, (except that the blue-green dress doesn’t have a stomacher for some reason) but you seem to know a lot about it and they do look a bit "off".
Thanks for the question! This reply ended up being really long and I feel like it’s really nitpicky…but also, it shows that a little bit of research can go a long way for those Outlander costume designers. I’m not an expert, this isn’t an area I’ve studied heavily (yet) but I know where to find resources so that gives me an edge. If anyone has corrections for this post, please let me know!!!
This analysis is based on 18th century fashion and doesn’t account for the modern influences that Brianna and Claire might bring to the table. It also doesn’t take into account the rare exceptions to some of these points.
EDIT: I recently discovered Frock Flicks so if you want to hear more about the fashion choices on Outlander, the good and the bad, check their Outlander tag out! And here is the group absolutely destroying Gellis’s hair choice.
Brianna’s Wedding Dress
In some cases, an 18th century woman’s wedding gown would simply be the nicest one she had in her wardrobe. If she had a special gown made, it wasn’t a one-and-done thing like it is today. It would have been worn again and again for special occasions because it would likely be her nicest gown. That being said, it wasn’t always white.
Sleeves usually had some sort of decorative feature such as ruffles of lace or fabric. With lace or white fabric ruffles, they can be sewn on then taken off at a later date to wash or sew different ones on.
Not related to the outfit, but the hairstyle is a tad bit inaccurate but I’ll let that slide.
Most fichus are not that long, they would typically end either at or above the waist. I think there’s something else a bit off with the fichu but I can’t put my finger on it.
I feel like there’s something off with the fabric choices, but I can’t pinpoint it.
Here are some examples of 1700s wedding outfits. In most cases, they were identified as wedding outfits by family lore.
Gown from 1763 - worn in Maine, USA. - The MFA, accession number: 52.558
Gown from 1742 - made in England but worn in Massachusetts, USA - The MFA, accession number: 42.210a-c
Gown from 1760 - French or British - The MET, accession number: 40.136.1a, b
Gown from 1776 - American - The MET, accession number: 2009.300.731
Gown from 1747, altered in the 1770s - British - The MET, accession number: 2014.138a, b
Gown from the 1770s-80s - British textile, worn in Rhode Island - Colonial Williamsburg, accession number: 1951-150,1
Petticoat from 1775 - American - Colonial Williamsburg, accession number: 2016-123
Petticoat fragment from the 1750s-80 - Philadelphia, USA - Colonial Williamsburg, accession number: 2009-43,2
Claire’s Wedding Guest Dress
Again, the hair is inaccurate. I can let it pass for Brianna, but not for Claire. There shouldn’t be that big chunk of hair hanging down her back. For a special event, fashionable women wore a pouf. To create a small pouf, all you need is a hair cushion and a bunch of pins. This photo of Abby from American Duchess shows a simple hairstyle.
Tumblr media
So Claire’s gown doesn’t actually fit a definition of any of the types of gowns that I’ve come across? It’s not a robe a l’anglaise but it’s slightly closer to a round gown. The issue is that Claire’s gown appears to be ONE entire piece, as if it was put on over the head. There are no ties, pins, hooks and eyes, or way to close it. The buttons of this gown are decorative.
A round gown as a back bodice similar to the anglaise but the round gown is one piece. The gown and petticoat are attached.
Describing a round gown is complicated but basically, the gown and petticoat are sewn together in the back while the front petticoat is brought up with the ties being wrapped around the waist. The front of the round gown will then be pinned closed or use a hook and eye closure. This creates the illusion of it gown and petticoat being separate.
This post shows the construction of a round gown!
Tumblr media
I don’t have a clue what’s going on that zig-zag. Zig-zags are seen later in the 1780s and 1790s with contrasting trim in fashion plates but that’s not what’s going on here.
I’m not an expert on lace, so lace-experts feel free feel free to correct me! The green portion of the gown looks like cheap, modern tatted lace. In the eighteenth century, lace was handmade and very expensive. Here are some beautiful examples of handmade, 18th century lace. Obviously I don’t expect the designers to be buying yards of expensive, handmade lace but seeing as they have a very large budget and unlimited resources, it shouldn’t be too hard to find decent lace at a decent price.

THE END!!

Deanee on Regular Girls EP 40
I can’t believe it... Forty episodes, incredible... I've done more than thirty summaries, fantastic New Regular Girls Summary! Renee begins with a "booyakasha" 😂😂 She had woken ten minutes before, both Renee and Stacey are hangovers. Stacey has developed a false laugh, Renee says she is the queen of false laughter 😂 Stacey has been retweeted by an actress she loves. Renee says they should have guests and the first ones might be Brendan and Jon. Stacey says that's what everyone is asking for (really, watch Twitter) and Renee "I don't know why they love our stupid husbands" 😂 They started talking about Bachelor. Renee talked about WWE Hall of Fame 2016 where she had her hair different from the usual. She thought she was good, but she was not so (actually, I think she was fine with that hairstyle). She and Jon made several pictures after he arrived and she then saw these photos and then what the WWE had forwarded and she didn't like her hair. Then they talked of Renee's hair and she painted them on pastel pink and Stacey fell in love with Renee's hair. Renee said why many ask her many questions if she cuts her hair... Actually, she loves to try new things and she loves style. Stacey also claimed that Renee was her new stylist  😂 Renee's phone doesn't work well and she has to buy another one: Stacey sends her a picture and the phone shows her the photo of Renee's wedding Renee had to tighten the ring because it was too large and it is the second time it happens: Renee has little fingers. Then she booked new things (and I hope she'll post them soon, for see it) and among them there were too high boots for her. Renee believes she doesn't do well what she does, or rather... She says that's just the way she speaks, for me and for everyone else she is very good at what she does They talked a lot about Rihanna and the new line she launched. They talked so much about make-up, as they watched often tutorial to learn the best make-up and hairstyles and really... It's great! I do the same thing every day Now people has more awareness of fashion and make-up, when Renee and Stacey went to school, not everyone was aware of it. Renee wants to call Dean, who is in the bedroom watching cartoons or similar stuff, then said Dean has "wild-ass hair"  😂 When Renee started dating Jon, she realized that Dean was pretty jealous of his hair Then Renee called him, elegantly "JOOOOON!" He was looking at Highlanders and then ... Renee asked the question. What is the male icon for Jon? Sigh on his part Then he said Fandango  😂 Then they compared Jon to a famous person and then Renee said Dean's beard became very close to red. And that’s all! Now, I have to wait the hairdresser (I’ll be a total new person today haha) so... At Next! Update: Jon was watching We Bare Bears 😂

What I’ve Learned Staking Out Trump’s Washington Hotel
New Post has been published on https://thebiafrastar.com/what-ive-learned-staking-out-trumps-washington-hotel/
What I’ve Learned Staking Out Trump’s Washington Hotel
The Trump family is reportedly exploring a sale of the Trump Hotel in Washington D.C., partly out of concerns raised by ethics watchdogs and emoluments lawsuits that the president is profiting off of his presidency. The Trumps are right to be (belatedly) worried. I know the Trump Hotel D.C. pretty well, and I feel confident saying there is plenty more where those red flags came from.
My daily look at who is patronizing the president’s D.C. hotel started as research in July 2017 for what became one sentence in a 5,500-word feature forCondé Nast Traveler. A few minutes on Instagram revealed that if you had concerns about the U.S. president doubling as a hotelier, they were well-founded. I found photos of Rep. Duncan Hunter (R–Calif.) crashing a Vapor Technology Association’s conference; a guest posing with former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, captioning her photo, “He’s still calling the shots”; and the president’s attorney Rudy Giuliani enjoying a cigar in a wine-stained tux the night of Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin’s wedding. Lawmakers, lobbying groups and would-be powerbrokers were taking full advantage of the chance to better their lot by throwing a few bucks the president’s way.
Story Continued Below
More than two years later, I haven’t stopped scrolling through photos from the Trump Hotel D.C. For two years, I’ve read through every Instagram, Facebook and Twitter post geo-located to the Trump Hotel D.C. I’ve also made several visits and done some more sleuthing around the internet, then published my findings, first on a Twitter thread and now in a newsletter that comes out five days a week.
The afore-referenced pic of Rudy Giuliani with stains on his shirt at the Trump Hotel DC a few weeks ago. https://t.co/TPNxCqgxMx pic.twitter.com/Kg93lwGI4l
— Zach Everson (@Z_Everson) July 26, 2017
After two years of observation, I’ve learned three big things about how people use the Trump hotel to curry favor with the president, all while he profits.
Social media from the Trump Hotelcan tip us off to major stories months in advance.
Despite being known as the “guy who’s always at the Trump Hotel,” I visit about once a month, usually to meet with other journalists, in response to a tip or because friends from out of town want a justification for grabbing a drink there. Instead, most sightings come from the 80-plus websites and social-media pages I‘ve bookmarked—Twitter feeds and lists and a dozen Google alerts. If you want it to be known that you’re sending money the president’s way, social media is an easy way to do that, after all—and that online advertising makes it fairly easy to find the Trump Hotel’s big spenders. Instagram, LinkedIn and a website of a person’s employer are more helpful for identifying lobbyists than watching them work in situ.
Social media can be especially useful in combination with real-time observation. For instance, take the evening this past March when I spotted Romania’s prime minister, Viorica Dancila, at the hotel.
That spotting got a lot more interesting later. I’d seen Giuliani at the Trump Hotel D.C. earlier that same weekend, but not with the Romanian prime minister. We already knew that Giuliani had reached out to Romania’s president “about continuing damage to the rule of law” in the country, so there was reason to think at the time that the two would know each other. But a Giuliani spokesperson didn’t respond to my inquiry asking if he had met with Dancila.
But later that same week, Giuliani tweeted a photo of himself dining in the hotel’s steakhouse with other members of Trump’s “All Star legal team.” There, seated at an adjacent table, within arm’s reach of the president’s attorney, was Romania’s prime minister. It was just her rear profile, though; if I hadn’t seen her hairstyle and outfit in person that same evening, I would not have recognized her. (Giuliani has since implied in an interview that Romania is connected to his efforts regarding former Vice President Joe Biden and “corruption.”) Later, an Instagram post theWall Street Journaluncovered showed that Lev Parnas, Giuliani’s associate who was recently arrested on campaign finance violations, was there that night, too.
Scoping out social media also allows me to report immediately on what’s happening at the hotel that’s not often available through other channels. Even if he wins a second term, Trump probably will be out of office before all my Freedom of Information Act requests regarding government officials’ visits are answered. Campaigns and committees sometimes don’t report a disbursement at the hotel to the Federal Election Commission until months after the event—and they don’t provide any insight into who attended. For instance, while a tip helped theWashington Postexpose the extent of T-Mobile’s Trump Hotel D.C. patronage in the eight months following its unveiling of controversial plans to merge with Sprint, a Facebook post the day after the announcement gave an immediate glimpse of CEO John Legere’s strategy for winning administration approval: frequent and highly visible trips to the Trump hotel in Washington.
The profits from foreign governments are especially opaque.
All told, officials from at least 29 different foreign countries have stopped by or stayed at the U.S. president’s D.C. hotel since opening, a number I arrived at through my reporting combined with that of other outlets. And the money coming from those guests is a lot harder to track than the money coming from U.S. lawmakers.
Between my and others’ reporting on the peculiar-to-this-administration reporting, we know Trump’s D.C. hotel has already hosted government officials from at least three G7 countries. Ontario Premier Doug Ford lunched there last September at the invitation of Kelly Craft, then U.S. ambassador to Canada and currently the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Not only was Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage’s patronage of the Trump Hotel cited in a 2018 emoluments suit—for diverting business from a Maryland hotel and toward one owned by the president—but he also served as a featured attraction for 800 hotel customers at a Turning Point USA gala this year. In January, Italy’s deputy minister for foreign affairs, Guglielmo Picchi, met at the Trump Hotel with two senior officials in the president’s shadow cabinet: Lewandowski and Giuliani.
And while no Japanese officials have been spotted at the Trump Hotel D.C. (yet), Prime Minister Shinzo Abe might one day have a sand trap on a Trump golf course named after him: The prime minister has visited at least five different Trump properties since their owner’s election.
Nigerian dignitaries are such fans of the place that it wouldn’t be a surprise to learn a Trump Hotel Lagos was in the pipeline. And sometimes they come for reasons related to politics back home more than Trump’s approval. The Trump Hotel D.C. seemed like a swing state last year when—a month before Nigeria’s presidential election—the main opposition candidate, the scandal-plagued former vice president Atiku Abubakar, entered the lobby with an entourage of Nigerian lawmakers and supporters posting videos of his every move. At the same time, and apparently coincidentally, another longshot presidential candidate was also bunking at the U.S. president’s hotel. The U.S. State Department’s willingness to allow Abubakar to even enter the United States was an election issue. He may not have been able to land an audience with Trump, but a town hall he held for Nigerian immigrants in the United States in Trump’s hotel and streamed for voters back home was intended to make him look more legitimate and help his election chances. (It didn’t work—he later lost.)
Whatever a foreign official’s reasons are for visiting the Trump Hotel D.C., the president gets paid—but we don’t really know how much. While the Trump Organization has donated more than $340,000 to the U.S. Treasury, which it says are its profits from foreign governments for 2017 and 2018, the organization won’t disclose the governments themselves or if the figure has been independently audited. But there are two big reasons to be skeptical of that number. The Trump Organization relies on the foreign government official to self-report to the hotel, and all of us rely on the Trump Organization to calculate profit per hotel room correctly.
More than half of Republican senators have visited or spent campaign or committee funds there.
The Nigerians, of course, may have just taken their cues from Trump’s Cabinet: By my count, 25 of the 33 different officials who have served in it have dropped in on Trump Hotel, D.C., often to headline events for their boss’ paying customers. It can only help in a world where a humiliating termination is just a tweet away.
Lawmakers do the same. FEC filings and social media posts combine to show that 28 of the 53 Republicans in the Senate have visited the Trump Hotel D.C. or spent campaign or committee funds there. So have seven of the 17 GOP members on the House Judiciary panel and six of the 17 GOP members on the House Oversight Committee.
Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R–Calif.) is the top spender at the hotel of any member of Congress, according to FEC filings.Photos of him on social media provide only glimpses of what he’s up to there, like smiling in the lobby with a supporter, speaking in a private room behind a Trump Hotels lectern and posing during his PAC’s Trump inauguration party with a Ukrainian billionaire and parliamentarian (as one does). Altogether, the leader’s campaign, joint-fundraising committees and PAC have spent more than $245,000 at Trump properties since the 2016 election, mostlyon catering and facility rentals. It appears to have paid off: Trump has repeatedly endorsed him for speaker.
Rep. Jim Jordan’s (R–Ohio) campaign has spent more than $22,000 at the hotel. He went a step further than just spending there when he wrote to the General Services Administration, the D.C. hotel’s landlord, criticizing an inspector general’s report that said the agency ignored the Constitution when allowing Trump to keep the lease upon assuming office. So when the president commented, “Thank you Jim!” while retweeting Jordan last month, you had to wonder if it was for more than just the lawmaker’s attack on the impeachment proceedings.
Despite everything I’ve learned, there are personal drawbacks to this kind of reporting—and no, being blocked on Twitter by Eric Trump is not among them. False accusations of doxing by Trump supporters are a common nuisance. (The information I publish is almost always culled from what these hotel guests chose to share publicly, and never includes a home address.)The project also has zapped whatever joy and personal utility I got out of social media. And it does seem a bit hypocritical that, like the president, I too am benefiting from his ownership of the hotel—for example, with this assignment.
Then there’s the matter of the $3,000 or so I’ve spent at the president’s business, mostly media outlets’ money, but some of it my own. It’s easy to justify those expenses, though. Through the customers I’ve spotted at the Trump Hotel D.C.—and a whole bunch of patrons whose identities will never be public—the U.S. president reported $81 million in revenue for 2017 and 2018. Even if the hotel changes hands sometime soon, that’s still a pretty good haul for half a presidential term.

Bridesmaid dresses your maids will actually want to wear

Bridesmaid dresses your maids will actually want to wear
Hands up who has ever had to wear a hideous bridesmaids dress just to pleased their best friend/sister/insert relevant acquaintance here on their wedding day? But gone are the days you had to wear awkwardly tailored dresses in even more awkward lilac to match the colour scheme.
Whether you’re looking to designers or the high street, the offering of trend-led dresses is so stylish that your maids will be begging you to wear them, rather than secretly cursing you.
Planning a destination summer wedding? Take a look at the likes of Nanushka, Three Graces London or Rixo London for ethereal dresses in floaty fabrics and exotic prints. Something a little more formal? Then you’ll be spoiled for choice at the likes of & Other Stories, Zara and Needle & Thread.
The good news is that just as brides aren’t compelled to wear white anymore (FYI check out our edit of the best high street wedding dresses here), the sartorial rule book has been thrown out when it comes bridesmaids dresses.
First off, they don’t need to match, in fact mixing prints and styles really makes extra chic (just check out Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s bridesmaids dresses if you’re not convinced). That doesn’t mean you should just throw any old mix together though, make sure there are similar colour tones in each dress so they compliment each other. ASOS have an awesome line of mismatched dresses that’s very budget friendly.
Best winter bridesmaids dresses
There is a misconception that winter weddings are harder to shop for, as there’s less on offer than during wedding guest dress season, but that’s not the case, especially if you’re shopping around party season. Flattering colours like navy and grey and jewel shades of ruby, emerald and topaz make for a pretty line-up. A long-sleeved lace number is always chic for city weddings, while sequins really make an impact if you’re after a more festive vibe – there’s something magical about mixing shimmering copper, gold and silver.

Best summer bridesmaids dresses
For summer, needless to say the options are endless. Beach wedding? Look for a minimal slip dress or floaty maxi. City wedding? Try a chic wraparound dress by the likes of Kitri or Rixo, with a cool print that can easily be worn again. Country wedding? You can’t go wrong with a floral dress.

How to List Work Experience on Your Resume [+20 Examples]
Your professional work experience section is the meat and potatoes of your resume.
Employers ask for a resume pretty much for the sole purpose of reviewing your work history.
How many years did you work? Where? What did you do there?
That’s why your work experience on a resume has to be flawless.
But it’s just a bunch of bullet points detailing duties from previous jobs, right?
  Far from it.
In fact, your professional experience section should be a shining review of all your best achievements. And on the best resumes, work experience tells a story.
But that’s hard to do if you have no story to tell. It’s also hard if you’re just not a storyteller.
That’s why this guide will show you:
What to put on a resume if you have no work experience.
How to tailor your work experience to the job on offer.
How to list work experience on a resume so you land the job.
The best formula for putting achievements on your resume.
Want to save time and have your resume ready in 5 minutes? Try our resume builder. It’s fast and easy to use. Plus, you'll get tips and right vs. wrong examples on what to put in your resume experience section as you are creating it. See 20+ resume templates and create your resume here.
Our resume builder will walk you through the right way of listing your work experience on a resume - See more templates and create your resume here.
  1
Here’s How Much Work Experience to Put on a Resume
  What is work history?
Your work history is all the jobs you’ve held over the course of your life. And your resume is where you give a detailed account of your work history.
Now, does that mean that all your work experience needs to go on your resume?
  Not quite.
So, how much work experience should be on a resume?
  right
Professionals pick and choose their most relevant work experience for their resumes.
wrong
Professionals include every job they’ve ever had - everything but the kitchen sink.
  What does “relevant experience” mean?
Relevant work experience is any job you’ve held that is similar to the job you’re applying for now. Let’s say you’re applying for a position as a race car driver.
  right
Relevant work experience is any racing job you’ve held in the past.
wrong
Relevant work experience includes your days as a belly dancer.
For those of you with quite a bit of professional experience, you know it’s best to ignore irrelevant positions.
But where is the cut-off point?
Don’t exclude jobs if it will leave gaping holes on your resume.
Don’t exclude jobs when they support or match the job on offer.
If you were a belly dancer for five years, you need to add it. The point is to match the jobs, skills, and achievements to the job on offer.
  Do exclude:
Any job you held more than 15 years ago. (Add it to a “Previous Experience” section.)
That server job you had in high school after years of being a successful professional.
Other brief filler gigs you had that don’t match the job on offer or any non-paid work.
It’s best to create and keep a master resume to keep track of everything.
Your master resume is where you tell the saga of your work history. Write down every job, every duty, and every achievement on your master resume.
Later, use your master resume to cherry pick the most relevant jobs and positions for your actual resume.
Also, your sample work experience section should only include paid work.
  Paid work can include:
  Full-time Work
Part-time Work
Temp Work
Internships
Work Study
Freelance or Self Employment
Independent Projects
  Now, let’s switch gears.
What do you put on a resume if you have no work experience?
If that’s true for you, you may want to add everything and anything that you can define as “work.” And that includes non-paid work.
  For example:
  Major Roles in Student Organizations
Practicums (Student Teaching)
Unpaid Internships
Volunteer Work
Let’s say you did have a lot of internships and summer work as a student.
In that case, add non-paid work to a section titled:
  Relevant Experience
Other Experience
To list volunteer experience on a resume, add a separate section titled “Volunteer Work.”
Remember that volunteer work and summer work isn’t professional experience.
  What is professional experience?
Professional experience is work that you do that is in line with your profession. So, if you’re a nurse, your professional experience includes all the nursing jobs you’ve had.
Before you gain professional experience, it’s okay to add other work experience to your job history section. Once you gain professional experience, your other work needs to go elsewhere on your resume.
The thing that hiring managers are looking for in your work experience section is proof that you can do the job. So, no matter what you put as a work experience example make sure it translates.
Pro Tip: Where does your work experience go on your resume? Put it under your resume summary if you’re a seasoned professional. If you’re a student, put your education section first and your job experience section second.
Still not sure what work experience to put on your resume? Not sure what all goes on a resume in the first place? Read our guide: “What to Put on a Resume to Make It Perfect [Tips & Examples]”
  2
How to Format Work Experience on a Resume Template
The first thing you’ll want to do is label your work experience section:
  Work Experience
Employment Experience
Work History
Employment History
Make the title stand out by either using bold, caps, and/or italics. Keep the font and font size consistent with the rest of your resume subheadings.
Start with your current job or your most recent position. You will continue to add relevant jobs in reverse-chronological order to the work experience on your resume.
Underneath each job, you’ll add bullet points itemizing your responsibilities and achievements. How many bullet points per job?
You can have up to six bullet points under each job but add more or less as necessary. Remember, it’s ideal to keep your resume under two pages.
So, your current job should have the most bullet points and the most detail.
As you start to add older jobs, you can limit the number of duties and details. Hiring managers care most about what you’re doing now and not what you were doing five years ago.
So, go into detail in the beginning. Only add the most relevant duties and best achievements as you go back in time.
Whatever layout you decide, keep it consistent. If you left align dates - left align all dates.
  For example:
  right
Company #1
City, State
Dates Worked
  Job Title
  Responsibility/Achievement
Responsibility/Achievement
  Company #2
City, State
Dates Worked
  Job Title
  Responsibility/Achievement
Responsibility/Achievement
wrong
Job Title
Company / Dates
City, State
  Responsibility / Achievement
Responsibility / Achievement
  Company
City, State
Dates Worked
  Job Title
  Responsibility/Achievement
Responsibility/Achievement
Consistency in the layout is key. Don’t make recruiters search and guess. Send them the message that you’re organized and that you pay attention to detail.
Also, avoid the first person and pay attention to your tenses. If it’s your current job, use the present tense. If it’s a past position, use the past tense.
Pro Tip: You may want to consider adding a company description for companies that are not well known. Did you work for Jujulolo? No one knows what that is. Add a brief description.
Have a lot of work experience? Need to write a resume with no work experience? Don’t know which resume format to use in either case? Read our guide: “3 Resume Formats: How to Choose the Best One [Examples]”
  3
How to Write Each Bullet Point in Your Work History Section
Now that you know where things go, you’ll need to know how to write each bullet point.
The first thing you’ll want to do is start with an action verb. Next, make a quantifiable point. Finally, follow up with a specific task.
  For example:
  Action Word: Negotiate
Quantifiable Point: Saved the company $5,000 annually on office supply costs.
Specific Task: Order office supplies for the company.
  right
Negotiate with office supply vendors, saving the company $5,000 annually.
wrong
Responsible for buying office supplies.
Sometimes it’s not possible to quantify achievements. Sometimes you need to list regular duties. At the same time, ask yourself:
Did I save the company money?
Did I earn the company money?
How many people did I train or manage?
How many people worked on my team?
Did I increase user engagement?
Did I impact sales targets?
Did I break any records?
Anything you can show in numbers, do it. Numbers will attract the attention of the reader.
Now, let’s see a real life example of professional work experience on a resume. Let’s say you want to be a hair stylist.
First, read the job description to find out what work experience to include.
Job Description for a Hair Stylist:
One year of previous hair styling experience.
Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
Greet all guests using courtesy words.
Initiate and engage in conversations that are professional and friendly.
Prepare hair stations before and after each service.
Provide hair style needs such as haircuts, styles, updos, coloring, perms, and highlights.
Ensure cleanliness and stock of guest and professional supplies in the salon.
If you’re applying for this job, you have to have at least one year of work experience as a hair stylist. So, what would that entry look like on your resume?
  WORK EXPERIENCE
Hair Stylist (May 2015 - Present)
Pardon My French Manicure and Hair Salon
Neptune, OH
Provide cuts, styles, coloring, and highlights to a set of 20+ regular clients.
Design updos for all weddings, proms, and formal events in Neptune, resulting in an award for the Best Prom and Wedding Hairstyles for 2016.
Engage in conversation with customers of Pardon My French, resulting in a 100% customer satisfaction rating on surveys.
Stock and sell curated hair and beauty products, resulting in a 50% upswing in the salon’s overall sales for 2016.
Maintain and prepare hair stations before and after each service, ensuring cleanliness.
Style and dress hairpieces, extensions, and wigs.
Notice how the candidate leads with a title and working dates instead of the name of the company. The result? The hiring manager notices the candidate has the required work experience.
The candidate starts every bullet point with an action word, some of which show up in the job offer. For example, “engage,” and “provide.” It’s a good idea to use keyword phrases from the employment description.
The candidate also used “prepare hair stations before and after each service” and “engage in conversations” among other things.
Repeating the hiring manager’s language will make you sound familiar. Also, it helps Applicant Tracking System (ATS) software read your resume.
Next, notice that the candidate has not only listed duties:
Provide cuts, styles, coloring, and highlights.
But the candidate has also listed achievements:
Curation of beauty products resulted in a 50% increase in sales.
Finally, notice that the candidate uses the present tense. The formatting is consistent, and the number of bullet points is six. What more could the candidate do?
Some of the bullet points are a bit long. If the candidate’s resume spills over one page, it will be best to cut a point or two. You can also rewrite points to make the entry more concise.
Pro Tip: You should base your choice of duties and achievements on what you find in the job offer. Start your list with your highest quantifiable achievement.

Action Words - The Fastest and Easiest Way to Spice up a Resume
Were you ever guilty of writing this on your resume at some point:
  Professional Person
  Responsible for working.
Responsible for doing stuff.
Responsible for doing other stuff.
Responsible for being responsible.
Look familiar? If you’re starting every bullet point with “responsible for,” you need to stop.
Yes, it’s a hard habit to ditch.
But that’s where action words save the day.
Let’s say that your job offer calls for leadership skills.
  right wrong
Spearheaded
Responsible for
Enabled
Led
Facilitated
Managed
Again, don’t forget to use the correct tense.
Pro Tip: Try to pick precise action words. Let’s say you were in charge of organizing an event. Instead of “organized event” maybe you “hosted” or “orchestrated.”
Want a complete list of action words for your resume? Still not sure how to use them? Read our guide: “+80 Examples of Resume Action Words for Every for Every Profession”

How to Add Achievements to Your Work Experience Section
The first thing you’ll need to do is identify your achievements. And that may be a bit harder than it sounds.
  Ask yourself:
Did I ever do anything that had a direct impact on costs or revenue?
Is there anything I did that I can illustrate with facts and figures?
Can I think of a time when I used a skill to the best of my ability?
Was there ever a time when my boss praised me for something?
Did I ever finish a project before deadlines or under projected cost?
Did I ever win an industry award or receive a promotion?
Now, you’ll want to use the PAR (Problem Action Result) approach when you write down your achievements.
In situation P (Problem), I did A (Action) which led to R (Result).
  So, let’s say you’re a bartender.
Problem: Dip in number of customers coming to the bar.
Action: Developed a set of 6 new concept cocktails.
Result: The new cocktails got media attention resulting in a 50% surge in brand awareness and 120% surge in the number of people coming to the bar.
Designed 6 concept cocktails generating media coverage, a 50% surge in brand awareness, and a 120% increase in patronage for The Bang Bang Bar.
Another thing you’ll want to do is have a look at your job offer. Do you notice any skills that repeat or any keywords like “outgoing,” or “innovative?”
You’ll want to add these to your bullet points in your work experience section as well.
Pro Tip: Not every bullet point needs to be an achievement. Mix it up with your duties that show off your best skills. Plus, make sure you add duties that prove you can handle the new job.
Want to see examples of achievements for every profession? Still not sure how to add them to your resume? Read our guide: “Achievements to Put on a Resume - Complete Guide (+30 Examples)”

How to List Promotions on a Resume With Work Experience
Here is where things may get a bit tricky.
Let’s say you were promoted. Congratulations!
But how do you put that work experience on a resume? Especially if it happened a few times over many years.
Do you create a new entry for every new position?
  Not exactly.
  Start by naming the company.
Next, decide if your duties were the same or different after your promotion. The same? Then you’ll want to stack your job titles and add one set of bullet points.
Company Inc. (January 2012 - Present)
Store Manager (January 2013 - Present)
Assistant Manager (January 2012 - January 2013)
  Mention Promotion
Responsibility
Achievement
Were your duties vastly different? Then you’ll want to add each title as a separate subheading followed by a list of bullet points.
Company Inc. (March 2010 - Present)
Store Manager (January 2013 - Present)
  Mention Promotion
Responsibility
Achievement
  Assistant Manager (January 2012 - January 2013)
  Mention Promotion
Responsibility
Achievement
  Cashier (March 2010 - January 2012)
  Responsibility
Achievement
The bullet point describing your promotion should show what led up to you receiving it. That way the person reading your resume knows that you weren’t promoted because there was no one else to do the job.
  Here’s an example:
Earned promotion following superior performance during six months of management training.
Remember that showing your career progression impresses hiring managers. So, you need to make it neat and easy for them to read.
Pro Tip: Let’s say that you had a break between roles at the same company and worked someplace else in the meantime. In that case, you’ll want to add the name of the company twice.
Still not sure how to list promotions on a resume? Want to see how add multiple positions to your work experience section? Read our guide: "How to Show Promotions & Multiple Positions on Your Resume"
  Key Takeaway
The work experience you put on your resume is the thing that can make or break your chance of landing your dream job.
You need to get it just right. If you do nothing else, add achievements and choose action words to kick off your bullet points. You need to prove to the hiring manager that hiring you is going to be valuable.
If you can do that, you’re already well on your way to landing your dream job.

  5

  For example:
  right
Company #1

Dates Worked
  Job Title
  Responsibility/Achievement
Responsibility/Achievement
  Company #2

Wedding Top Tips - Wedding Planner | Revelry Events
Hi there! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read through my new blog series - Top Wedding Tips. I'm all for adding value to the website for my clients, subscribers & visitors, so I thought it would be useful for all the bride and groom to be's to get some tips and tricks from ace wedding suppliers and vendors. Over the next few months I will be interviewing cake makers, hair and make-up stylists, venues, wedding stationary suppliers and so on.
To kick this new feature off we start with the Holly and Susie from Revelry Events, an award winning wedding planner duo, based in London and planning weddings and other events all over the world.
I hope you enjoy this new blog series and would love to hear your thoughts! Feel free to get in touch, if you want to ask specific questions to the suppliers or are a vendor yourself and want to be featured.
Take care. x
Tell us a bit more about your company and how it came about?
We’re Revelry Events and we’re all about rulebook-free weddings. We love weddings that don’t fit the normal conventions, that capture your personalities and most of all, ones where everyone has a damn good time! We're Holly and Susie, the duo behind Revelry, and we both had very different paths to where we are now. S: I’ve used to work in PR and events but I changed careers to wedding planning after realising that I’d get much more satisfaction organising weddings for people than events for brands. A few years ago I knew I wanted to make the jump, so I emailed a few planners for experience and the one who got back to me was Holly. We met, we clicked, I shadowed her, then we decided to work together permanently! H: It sounds super cheesy but it’s honestly been what I’ve wanted to do since I was really young – though I had a brief longing to be an volcanologist. I learned everything I could through my teens about what it meant to be a planner. I shadowed other planners, I read every book going on weddings, I tore out pictures from magazines. So when I finished studying film and television production at university I just started planning weddings for free, for friends of friends, until I built up enough business and enough confidence to really go for it. Cut to a five years later, I get an email from Susie in my inbox and I'm intrigued! We joined forces and it's been epic every since.
What has been the best or most memorable wedding you've worked on so far?
We worked with a couple who really went all out for their 2016 wedding. They were an American and Danish couples who wanted to bring over lots of family from abroad for a whole weekend of fun. We found them the perfect venue to host their 140 guest wedding - pulling in a butler service, on-site massage and hairstyling, and round the clock food to keep all the guests happy and impressed. Friday kicked off with an afternoon of activities - from archery to zorb football, flower crown workshops to golf on the roof - complete with a prizegiving! The evening saw a sumptuous hog roast and ice-cream bar, craft beer on tap and live piano music outdoors in their very own tent under the stars. Saturday was a spectacular event. Fern covered chairs and benches lined the pathway towards the bespoke floral chuppah, with gorgeous views of the Somerset hills as the backdrop. As dinner wrapped up, the evening surprises began. A basement casino with croupiers opened up, custom cocktails came out to get guests in the dancing mood, and we quickly converted the ballroom from dinner into the perfect wedding lounge and piano bar - chesterfield sofas, photobooth and midnight cake bar! The whole weekend was a challenge but so, so worth it!
What are your 2 top tips for brides and grooms to be?
First off, don't feel like you have to do what other people do. Modern weddings don't have to follow a prescribed format anymore, you can shakeup the timetable as much as you want to suit you. Want a morning ceremony followed by a pancake breakfast with all your guests? Do it! An indoor funfair with street food trucks and no sit-down meal? Yes! Secondly, prepare for a marriage while you prepare for your wedding. There's so much stress and chaos during the engagement planning for one day, that sometimes the bigger picture can get missed. Your wedding day may be an amazing celebration but the part that really matters is the marriage and the life you'll have together. So yes, plan your day your way, but ultimately remembering that will give you perspective and will mean all the little annoyances of planning the best day of your life become small!
