Widogast 101: Introduction to Bread by ThreeGremlinsInATrenchcoat (2524, General) Warnings: None Caleb finds out that Essek has never eaten bread before, so he brings him a lot of Zemnian breads to try. Reccer says: Caleb is so fascinated with Essek's opinions on the different types of bread. It's very endearing.

my kingdom for a braid by hanap (10998, Teen) Warnings: minor violence Caleb and Essek are the rulers of the Empire and the Dynasty as well as star crossed lovers. When Caleb reaches out, years later, with what he thinks is a romantic gesture, Essek understands it as a declaration of war. Reccer says: It's got dramatic irony! It's got a wonderful breadth of POV characters! It's beautifully written!

In the Interest of Identity by firefright (2232, General) Warnings: None A late night talk on the importance of names. Reccer says: Some lovely pining and Dynasty worldbuilding

Inventory by Operafloozy (3862, Teen) Warnings: None Yasha helps Essek out with some cultural misunderstandings, and also packing. Reccer says: Great worldbuilding and voices - it's about Essek and Caleb's relationship, but also Essek and Yasha and how they relate to the Dwendalians in their lives.

gilded by renquise (1949, Teen) Warnings: None A deliciously horny little fic with an old dynasty courting custom at the centre. Reccer says: For such a short little fic, the world and the characters feel so rich and lived in. Super hot as well as tender and sweet and a treat for hand kink havers!

And All the Trifles, Sweet and Frail by Interrobang (2329, Explicit) Warnings: Trans Essek-- this fic includes vaginal fingering. Drow have certain customs about handwear and hand-to-hand contact. By Kryn standards, Caleb is a bit of a trollop. Reccer says: Excellent sense of tension and sensuality, but also, the fact Essek finds handholding to be Extremely Scandalous is SUPER funny to me.

Appetites by portraitofemmy (1793, Explicit) Warnings: None Essek muses on the voracious nature of humans. Reccer says: Lush, indulgent, and gorgeous

In My Head, I'm Yours by Marmeladeskies (31346, Teen) Warnings: no warnings “I… my Den’s annual meeting is coming up, and I need a plus one, to put it simply.” “You need someone to pretend to be your daaaaaaaate?” Essek brings Caleb as his "fake" date to a family reunion. Feels and shenanigans ensue. Reccer says: I love the in-depth depiction of the Dynasty as a matriarchy, and thus Essek as a male drow has to put up with much of the same bullshit that female-presenting humans do. The flipped social dynamics are super interesting to me.

For these last two, we had multiple recs each for them:

Indecency by RainyDayDecaf (5898, Teen) Warnings: None Caleb and Essek keep accidentally performing courtship rituals from the other's culture Reccer 1 says: A really adorable 6+1 fic, super cute and sweet Reccer 2 says: It's just very cute and fluffy. The boys are in love and stupid about it at times. Reccer 3 says: The wizards are flirting and pining and blushing and accidentally going WAY TOO FAR with their intended gestures because of cultural differences. It's soft and sweet and funny and like a warm hug.

In the Closet of our Discretion by Firefright (12280, Mature) Warnings: None Caleb gets a hands-on lesson on how the many layers of Dynasty formalwear. By taking it off Essek. Reccer 1 says: I love the worldbuilding inherent in it, along with the wonderful build-up of tension as Caleb removes each layer. Reccer 2 says: Such a good study of dynasty clothing. Reccer 3 says: Well written, romantic, and sexy! Reccer 4 says: If you like costume porn or headcanons about the Dynasty having pseudo-Victorian modesty standards, then this is the fic for you. Disclaimer: despite my costume porn description, there is no actual smut in this, though it does have one of the hottest disrobing scenes I've ever read.

You were not a very good Borrower. With no light you were unable to guess where exactly in the room you were right now. For the life of it, you couldn't locate a wall by touch, it was like a maze of wooden monoliths. It now occurred to you that scavenging in a new environment at night was stupid. It would be a good idea to at least rest underneath some furniture or something, and wait until sunrise.

Yeah sounds reasonable. While having lost your way in the darkness completely, you find a warm crevice, a soft fabric you assume. You crawl in underneath, getting nestled in, feeling safe in your little spot, it smelled so nice….

You do not remember falling asleep, but when you wake, it is not by sunlight, no. Everything is moving around you, trapping you in the shifting midst of it all. You are still wrapped up in the soft cloth, being lifted along with it.

 Vertigo gnaws at you as you feel being lifted up quite high, your stomach dropping. You can't see anything through the material disorienting you even more.

You wondered what was happening, and whether you have been noticed yet. Your breath quickened.

You are helpless to do anything as you sway along. 

Suddenly something was rummaging ruffling around, it felt like something was snaking in from an opening above, or what you assumed to be above, where light seeped in, as the material tugged around you. Welp you definitely were trapped now. 

Something large. It briefly brushed against you as the movement around you stopped. You froze at the sudden touch.

Whoever was holding you must have noticed something amiss. You didn't know whether this was a thing to be glad about. As the digit probed, you had no way to move out of the way.

You were stuck in a narrow pipe of cloth. You were squeezed at your sides from an outside force, probably a human feeling around for you, gauging the foreign form. The firm regular pressure was enough to still your movement, lest you get pinched, or crushed.

Melone wondered what the hell was in his glove. It could not be some stray earring or anything, this was warm and not at all metallic. At least it was somewhat light. Melone huffed, hoping this to better not be a prank from Illuso or Formaggio. He frowned remembering them pouring slime in his clothes, it took forever to get the stains out. He rubbed his temple tired this early in the morning.

Melone shook the glove lightly holding his other clothed hand underneath the opening urging the intruder out.

It seemed to be stubbornly stuck however and he sighed, as he carefully squeezed whatever was stuck in one of the fingers forward.

He heard something, a quiet yelp as something light dropped into his clothed palm. And it moved. Oh. It was… a tiny person. Curious. He read about tiny folk before. Holding one however was an experience he could not vividly imagine like this! One drop could prove fatal, and they could disappear within a closed palm with no difficulty… How do they survive?

 Your back landed on something soft knocking the wind out of your lungs, as you had to crane your neck all the way to see the purple hair framing a large face, looming way above you. Their cold eyes absorbed every little movement you made at once.

He glanced over the skittish thing, fitting snugly in his palm, watching as you scrambled for purchase on the squishy surface. Traversing was difficult. Not that escape would be possible anyway. Your ground shifted, almost testingly until you had to cling to his pointer for a grip.

 At least they seemed comfortable on his fabric before, how else would they have been resting in his handwear?

Melone smiled a little. He could feel every little movement, adjusting his loose but precise grip,  reading your body language like a book. Were you afraid? Curious? Overstimulated? Oh how curious he was to study you.

“How cute…” He licked his lips. The hand not occupied with cupping you loosely, produced some kind of computer. Which he propped up on his knee.

“I'm sure you wouldn't mind a few questions would you?”

The deep smooth voice rumbled through your bones, your mind barely having time to catch up on what he was saying.

He didn't seem that tired anymore…

So we know what Hadrian and Alessa think what the reason MC wears their glove is... but what about the other ROs? 👀

Most of them have just met you.

Neia saw the glove, but she was much more interested in what your hand was doing. Is it coming near your weapon? Is it resting on your belt? What have you in that pretty little belt of yours? Neia saw it, just as she saw your trousers and the color of your hair — unimportant details, quickly forgotten. She doesn't forget your voice, though. It carried a tune she listened to many times before, fear mixed with something else. Something sweeter.

Alain didn't even register it. If he's honest, and he so very rarely likes to be, Alain wasn't interested in what you're wearing as much as what hides just beneath. Gloves, boots, shirts… they're nothing but annoyances. But alas, they do make the chase a bit more interesting. Your whole outfit is interesting, different from those he mingles with at the taverns, and a whole world apart from the nobles he runs circles with on the court. Very different.

If Ysabella saw it, she noticed it needed to be stitched… or, maybe, the kinder path would be to retire it altogether. Perhaps she can arrange for another glove to be made for you? She'll get you a pair, light and soft and not too colorful — you seem to prefer more discrete handwear. Ysabella will commission one that matches your eyes, for what lovely color they happen to be.

Rafael couldn't be arsed about what you wear. He's watching your weapon, alright. He's watching those hands of yours, whether they're about to strike him, or pull a knife on him or… he can't be arsed if the hand that slits his throat is bare or not.

The Pirate King had other things to watch when he was lounging by the docks. You were a pleasant distraction, for sure, one could even say you entertained him. He did like the guessing game, even if the Pirate could tell you dragged it out a little bit. No need to call him a knight, after all. It's been a while since he's been teased, however, and surprisingly… he liked it. It was novel. You are novel.

So, he watched you, sure, but he was watching so many things. So many important things. And a glove? Well, that escaped him. He didn't notice the glove. He noticed your eyes, however.

Those he noticed.

Lance. Oh, Lance. Lance glances at it when he's playing at the square. Just a glove. He then sees it again when he meets you at the Market, arm extended, palm open, waiting.

You used your other hand to shake his, but he did see it, then. One bare hand, the other covered with a glove half falling apart. Curious fashion statement, but who is he to question anyone's style?

Now, when he sees you once more, in the basement of one of Mist's hidehouses… now, Lance notices other things. He notices, for example, that you keep digging your fingers into the palm of your hand. But not both hands, no. Just the one, the gloved one. Interesting. Almost as interesting as the fact that it seems that you do not notice it, you do not notice how you keep touching it.

And then, of course, something else happens. You flinch, for just a moment, apart from everyone. You flinch, in clear pain, when you hear the name Baiae and what happens? You clutch the gloved hand.

Interesting indeed.

Someone else notices your glove too. Quickly, almost immediately. Your glove, in a hand that was sought not too long ago by a dead Inquisitor.

I really like the new PvP gear, and I threw together this nice, level 1 friendly glam. I ended up making it my new Blue Mage glam--that's where the umbrella comes from!

Also, I just love how colorful the new Fall Guys area is.

personally I love that goro's jacket has little thumb holes in it, just like...aesthetically. this man is wearing the same stuff *I* wore in junior high to be cool (which automatically makes *him* cool). but also sometimes I wonder if there's like a practical reason for that? picturing him with mantis blades is just a headcanon (as his combat implants are never listed to my knowledge) but it doesn't stop me from picturing some sort of special bulletproof jacket which also hooks into your mantis blades so you can still cut someone up without having to take off your cool jacket. y'know? and I just love that for him. cozy and practical handwear for the old man.
