Blackground relaunches itself then surprises Team Aaliyah with an AaliyahIsComing website, hashtag, followed by a promotional tour that would last for the next few months celebrating the release of Aaliyah’s music.

For the new few months, fans are treated with rare photography, Aaliyah on the front pages of newspapers and magazine article, Aaliyah plastered all over Time Square billboards all over the world with fans sharing their sightings.

The release of Aaliyah’s music would divide Aaliyah fans with majority supporting the music’s release (just not supporting Blackground) but this wouldn’t stop the wrath of Rashad (Aaliyah’s brother) from blocking you; who would go on to block dozens of fan accounts who supported the music’s release.

The Haughton’s made an official statement on their platform urging fans to “stand with Aaliyah” and left fans in the dark speculating on why.

Labels Want to Prevent ‘Taylor’s Version’-Like Re-Recordings From Ever Happening Again

Warner Music Group, have recently overhauled contracts for new signees, according to top music attorneys, some demanding artists wait an unprecedented 10, 15 or even 30 years to re-record releases after departing their record companies. “The first time I saw it, I tried to get rid of it entirely,” says Josh Karp, a veteran attorney, who has viewed the new restrictions in UMG contracts. “I was just like, ‘What is this? This is strange. Why would we agree to further restrictions than we’ve agreed to in the past with the same label?'”

For decades, standard major-label recording contracts stated artists had to wait for the latter of two periods to expire before they could put out re-recorded versions, Swift-style: It could have been five to seven years from the release date of the original, or two years after the contract expired. Today, attorneys are receiving label contracts that expand that period to 10 or 15 years or more — and the attorneys are pushing back. “It becomes one of a multitude of items you’re fighting,” Karp says.

“I recently did a deal with a very big indie that had a 30-year re-record restriction in it. Which obviously is much longer than I’m used to seeing,” adds Gandhar Savur, attorney for Cigarettes After Sex, Built to Spill and Jeff Rosenstock. “I think the majors are also trying to expand their re-record restrictions but in a more measured way — they are generally not yet able to get away with making such extreme changes.”

DID YOU KNOW: Gladys is Aaliyah's aunt. She married Barry Hankerson in 1974 and they divorced in 1979. They had a very heated custody battle with their son (Aaliyah's cousin) Shanga Ali. Hankerson. "I had gone through a nasty divorce, I spent over a million dollars looking for my son after he got kidnapped. And I was broke." Knight shared with LA Tines back in 2011. Barry doesn't stop the show for Gladys. She'd go on to win countless music awards and do tv programs.

She has been honored by numerous organizations for her dedication and selflessness to help those less fortunate. Some of these include NAACP Legal Defense Fund- Black Women Of Achievement; Congress Of Racial Equality- Creative Achievement; Shaw University- Honorary Doctorate Degree; and B’Nair B’Rith- Humanitarian Award.

Fast-Foward, Knight marries William McDowell in 2001 and are very much still together and happy.

Aaliyah Dana Haughton was born on January 16, 1979, in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, the younger child of Diane and Michael "Miguel" Haughton, a warehouse worker. She was of African-American descent. Her name is the feminine form of the Arabic "Ali", meaning "highest, most exalted one, the best." Aaliyah was fond of her name, calling it "beautiful" and saying she was "very proud of it" and strove to live up to her name every day.

She first gained recognition at the age of 10, when she appeared on the television show Star Search and performed in concert alongside Gladys Knight. At the age of 12, She signed with Jive Records and her uncle Barry Hankerson's Blackground Records. Hankerson introduced her to R. Kelly, who became her mentor, as well as lead songwriter and producer of her debut album, Age Ain't Nothing but a Number (1994). The album sold three million copies in the United States and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). After allegations of an illegal marriage with Kelly, She ended her contract with Jive and signed with Atlantic Records.

She was an American singer and actress. She has been credited with helping to redefine contemporary R&B, pop, and hip hop, earning her the nicknames the "Princess of R&B" and "Queen of Urban Pop".

She worked with record producers Timbaland and Missy Elliott for her second album, One in a Million (1996), which sold three million copies in the United States and more than eight million copies worldwide. In 2000, She made her acting debut in the film Romeo Must Die. She contributed to the film's soundtrack, which was supported by her single "Try Again". The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 solely through airplay, becoming the first in the chart's history to do so.
