I don’t know what the general opinion is but for me MANIA feels like winter. Waking up to the sun shining through your window, it’s dancing all alone in the morning light, seeing the clear blue sky that is going to get covered by white clouds next time you look outside. The foreshadowing of an upcoming snowstorm.
It’s having drinks with your friends just to have a meltdown later, kneeling in the snow. Ache in your cheeks caused by laughter replaced by the biting cold and frozen tears. Wishing you didn’t show up at all.
It’s the chaos, the uncertainty of what may come as everything can change in seconds. The brutality of the season. It’s struggling to exist with you and without you.
It’s the beginning of the winter, the death and hopelessness but it’s also the end of winter, feeling hopeful for the future. It’s being angry at the world, feeling the madness coursing right through you, the tiredness set in your bones but also being oh so full of love, the ultra kind of love you never walk away from. You have so much of it to give that it can swallow you whole. It’s the rebirth. Being suddenly covered by the snow just for it to get melted later, to regain lost feelings. It’s happiness, feeling the warmth of fire on your face. Laughing loudly in the middle of the night.
Knowing that if you lived through this, you can do anything.

Now you got me manifesting bishop knife trick!! That’s the only way I wanna go out!! God, imagine the first few notes blasting through the speaker and then realization sets in! My soul would ascend to another plane of existence! The unadulterated power that is that song! 😭🤧
i truly believe that getting bishops knife trick live will be the death of me. really. and what a fucking glorious way to go. i can’t wait for my soul to leave my body and ascend into mania heaven the moment the bridge drops. i am so ready and so not ready and i’m visibly shaking from just thinking of the prospect. all of this and i know i’m not even gonna physically be there lmaooo but i’m manifesting with you and spiritually holding your hand the moment it happens 💜

Album art opinions:
We got bright saturated colors again! The purple of this album stands out not only against other covers in Fall Out Boy's discography but also just in general. the bright neon "hallway," leading to the waves in the background, gives the sense of foreboding almost. The bright color inviting but also overwhelming, as if the art itself is saying "be careful about what you indulge in, it could hurt you if you take it too far" really bringing the title of the album to life. Mania, which is a term referencing a symptom of mental illness often characterized by periods of excessive excitement, is exactly what this feels like to me.
Color: 9/10
Recognizability: 9/10
Vibes: 8/10
Total: 8/10
Music opinions/notes:
This album is a complete deviation from the bands established sound, and as such it sounds confused, and lacking cohesion. Some songs are great on their own but there doesn't appear to be an overarching theme to the album.
Mix: 8/10
Lyrics: 6/10
Instruments: 6/10
Vibes: 2/10
Total: 5/10
Total Score: 6/10

mania told us it’s okay to be different. in fact, we can find our own community, our own family, by being our authentic self. mania experimented with new sounds, new concepts, new ideas, and despite what a lot of people have to say about it, it showed how far fall out boy has come. after all, it’s their only grammy nominated album.
mania told us there’s hope on the other side. it gave us lyrics of hope, possibility, and potential. it showed us, the people willing to stick around, that a band full of people who have struggled are okay now. that pete wentz, who tried to kill himself, is okay now. he’s glad he’s alive now. we can be okay too. it’s going to be okay.
mania told us there’s no need to hold ourselves back. we should be ourselves. we should love hard. we shouldn’t let other people define us. it is an album filled with motivation and love from a band who never stopped trying and never stopped loving. they love us, and don’t ever want us to stop loving.
it’s all there. it’s in the lyrics. it’s in the music. it’s in the work and dedication that was put into the album.
