Harley Davidson, MVCAA team up for 'Ride Against Poverty' in Utica

Utica Buffalo Soldiers and Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency team up for 'Ride Against Poverty'A local motorcycle club, Harley Davidson and Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency are teaming up this weekend to host a motorcycle ride looping through Oneida and Herkimer counties.The "Ride Against Poverty," hosted by Harley Davidson and the Utica chapter of the Buffalo Soldiers, will raise funds for MVCAA and the services the agency provides for low-income families in Oneida and Herkimer counties. Registration starts 8:30 a.m. Saturday and kickstands go up at 10 a.m., MVCAA program development director Maureen Dunn Murphy said. Registration costs $25 per rider or driver and $5 per passenger.This the first ride MVCAA is hosting with Harley Davidson and the Buffalo Soldiers, Murphy said, though she added they hope it will become an annual event."This is kind of a new venture for us," she said.

MVCAA chose to work with the motorcycle club because it is very active in the community, Murphy said.Marc Dingle, secretary of the Utica chapter of the Buffalo Soldiers, agreed with that sentiment. Much of their efforts involve participating in community cleanups, donation drives and other community events, he said. The chapter’s next ride after this will be Aug. 27, to raise funds for Utica’s Veteran’s Outreach Center.“Our mission is to improve the community and ourselves,” he said.Murphy also credited Harley Davidson for hosting the event. Riders will begin and end their tour at their lot in New York Mills for what's expected to be a two-hour long ride. Cars as well as motorcycles are welcome, and a prize will be awarded to the best decorated car.“This will be the first ride I’ve ever been a part in that cars are welcome as well," Dingle said. “Anyone is welcome.”Riders will return to Harley Davidson for food from local food truck Doughboy's BBQ, as well as music, a raffle, prizes and games."We're just hoping it's going to not only be a fundraiser but also a community event," Murphy said. A £1million best-ever Motorcycle sale for Silverstone Auctions this weekend with record crowds and a sale rate of 83%. Silverstone Auctions is celebrating its best-ever Motorcycle sale, with a sale rate of 83% and total sales of £1million. The Auction took place at a new venue for the company, Shuttleworth Aerodrome in Bedfordshire, where visitors to the sale could also view the collection of rare aircraft in the historic hangars of this working aeronautical and automotive visitor attraction. Mark Bryan, Motorcycle Manager at Silverstone Auctions said: “It was a truly fantastic sale, our best ever, the venue attracted a large crowd which was great to see and we will definitely return for future sales. Nearly 60% of the bidding came from within the saleroom, but there was also huge interest online and over the telephone both from the UK and overseas. The interest in motorcycle collecting seems to be continuing to grow.” The sale was significant for featuring the last four MV Agusta motorcycles from the late Alan Elderton Collection, former chairman of the Agusta Owner’s Club of Great Britain. The four bikes made just shy of £200,000.

1973 MV Agusta 750S 743cc - Sold for £85,500 Top lot in the sale was an MV Agusta 750S from the Collection of the late chairman of the MV Agusta Owner’s Club of Great Britain, Alan Elderton, which made £85,500 - well exceeding its estimate. The totally desirable 750S: A magnificent engine, stunning frame, aggressive stance, swelling curves and a perfect tricolore colour scheme: an all-time classic. When launched the 750S was developed from the 600cc MV Agusta 4C. The engine was expanded to 743cc and fitted with four 24mm Dell'Orto carburettors generating a power output of 65bhp. This well-known bike has featured in numerous period publications including Biker (2001), Top Gear (2000) and Moto Retro (2000) one of which contains a road test by Roland Brown. (copies were included in the sale lot). Another top lot from the same Collection was the very rare, unrestored and original 1968 MV Agusta 600 4C. The first road-going four-cylinder from MV Agusta and undoubtedly the rarest. Introduced in 1967, only 135 examples were built with 127 recorded as being sold. This bike sold for £67,500.

1968 MV Agusta 600 4C 592cc - Sold for £67,500 The charity lot, a lipstick red 1949 Harley-Davidson WLC 750cc motorcycle donated to the cancer support charity – Look Good Feel Better – was put up for auction at No Reserve and Silverstone Auctions were delighted to see it achieve £14,625 all of which will be going to the charity. The bike was donated to the charity by Kiehl’s which is part of the L’Oréal Group. It was on display in Kiehl’s flagship store in Regent Street, London, as part of the Kiehl’s marketing and advertising material until the store closed last year. Earlier this year the Harley was donated to the charity to auction to raise the much-needed funds to provide services to people going through cancer.

'Whatever blows your hair back': Dapper Moncton ride raises money for men’s charities
Motorcycle enthusiasts put on their Sunday best to go for a ride around Moncton to raise money for prostate cancer research and men's mental health.
The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride takes place in over 120 countries. It’s raised over $50 million worldwide since its inception in 2012.
Riders don dapper outfits and hit the road on their classic vintage bikes.
A great way to spend a Sunday, but for some it’s also a time to think about family and friends.
Event committee member Angelica Armitage rode her Harley Davidson from Burton, N.B., to be there.
“My uncle passed away last year from cancer and I rode last year in honour of him. Frank Armitage. This year, I think it's more towards the men's mental health side,” said Armitage. ‘It's for both, of course.”
Doug Wheeler was riding in honour of a co-worker who has prostate cancer.
“I thought this would be a good thing to do, raise some money for prostate cancer. We're all getting older. We're all getting past our fifties, most of us here. It’s a good cause,” said Wheeler.
The kick-start took place at noon at the Moncton Public Library with around 75 riders taking a 45-minute spin around the city to the new Harley Davidson dealership on Main Street.
Sunday was the seventh year it has taken place in Moncton.
A great day, a great way to raise money, but it's also a way of life for the riders.
Event host Joey Landry said riding is a feeling of freedom.
“I guess when you get on a bike and ride, the only thing you think about is you and the road,” said Landry. “It’s a good stress relief for most riders.”
Landry’s co-host Marie Mourant said her motorcycle used to belong to her dad.
“He bought it when I was five or six-years-old and I eventually convinced him to sell it to me. I've been riding since I was six-years-old. I had a harness and he used to take me everywhere. It's part of my life, I guess,” said Mourant.
It was the first time George Kirby had participated in the charity fundraiser and he decided to bring his Triumph motorcycle to Sunday’s ride to do his part.
He’s been riding all his life.
