i run a few casual in character blogs on here and this is a simple guide for me to link onto those blogs. you’re free to ignore this.
rules and regulations to (my) in character behaviors
to cover the basics:
no nsfw
no bigotry
no out of character drama
my muses are prone to being rather snarky or even bitchy at times, if i’m saying something in character i truly don’t mean any offense, the actions of my muse are not the actions of mine. please keep that in mind.
i am open to:
multiverse rp (such as different canons/endings interacting through tumblr multiverse logic)
doubles (beloved multiverse logic)
other characters takeovers, if you’d like another character to take the wheel in an ask i am more than open to that (as long as the character of course makes sense in context to the blog in question)
fine print:
i run these blogs as a casual outlet for characters i see myself in, this is by no means something i take 100% seriously but is rather a form of autistic indulgence. behavior and rules may differ in effect from blog to blog. the characters are outlets for my headcanons and can slightly differ from canon sources. i take both in character and out of character asks. i use terms like muse and irl interchangeably. don’t be afraid to bring up plot ideas or questions into my inbox or dms directly. this post, as well as my pin post, could be updated in the future to add rules or other blogs. i use art in some of my posts which will be archived here @mamaartarchive

REVIEW FOR GOLDEN SON, CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR RED RISING SERIES
**IF YOU’RE READING THIS AND GOING “why did they call ‘Sevro’ Servo??” I am dyslexic and fantasy/sci-fi names always get turned around in my head lmaooo
I have never in my life cried from joy, laughter, and complete despair through 100 pages straight
Rating: 5/5
Honestly this book deserves more than 5 stars in my opinion because holy fuck I have not been this invested in a book since Gideon The Ninth.
Pierce Brown crafts an incredible world filled with diverse and deeply intriguing characters who make you feel for their agony and understand the things they need to do. I already loved Red Rising but Golden Son did something different to me. It was a masterpiece.
The Plot: 5/5
We follow Darrow as he continues his journey through the world of the golds now under the wing of Augustus and fighting desperately for respect among the people who surround him.
“Hic sunt leones. Here be lions.”
Darrow experiences pain, loss, trauma, friendship, mercy, understanding, and love throughout Golden Son with a beautiful story of a man figuring out that what he thought was true is not to be believed, and this theme continues into the second book. Despite his blatant apprehension Darrow finds himself truly loving his gold friends and any other color who brings him joy.
Theodora is a brown who takes care of Darrow and dotes on him constantly and teases him. They have an adorable relationship that proves that Darrow is not only growing fond of the golds, but realizing that all the colors are just people, mislead, dark, dishonest sometimes, but people all the same. This book felt more philosophical to me than Red Rising, it dove more into the idea of "why" we are what we are. Why we do this to each other. The complexity of human morality and loyalty. Are our enemies evil or just mislead?
It is a deeply complex plot with so many interesting stories that show that humanity is far from perfect and things need to change, but people are still people with real pain and real fears.
“We’re all just wounded souls stumbling about in the dark, desperately trying to stitch ourselves together, hoping to fill the holes they ripped in us.”
“There is no morality to him. No goodness. No evil intent when he killed Eo. He believes he is beyond morality. His aspirations are so grand that he has become inhuman in his desperate desire to preserve humanity.”
I love how important friendship and love is in this male and war dominated plot alongside with powerful and ruthless female characters who still have huge personalities. By far the best relationship in the entire book (and series) being that between Darrow and Servo.
Servo is by far my favorite character in the series because oh my god he is incredible. Everything he says makes me laugh or cry or just be genuinely happy hes speaking. I love this goblin child. Every scene between him and Darrow sharing a moment of true sympathy for everything the other is going through felt honest and loving, something we don't see often between male characters.
Characters: 5. out. of. fucking. 5.
I think i could literally scream for hours about how well rounded and complex these characters are. They feel like real people. Messy, broken, and holding onto each other for dear life.
Darrow feels a lot more guilt for the things he does to the golds than he did in the last book. He wonders if he is becoming the very monster he's trying to defeat. Darrow has a subtle shift throughout this entire book from pride and vengeance to almost a repentance and understanding. He keeps people at a distance but he aims to inspire any color to be as eccentric and strong willed as possible.
This is shown most through Ragnar, an obsidian that takes to Darrow after they find him aboard a ship. Darrow does not order him or berate him like the other golds do, he asks Ragnar what he wants out of life. Ragnar becomes increasingly loyal to him as he realizes Darrow is not like the people who tormented him. But still Darrow is aware of his wrongdoings and that the innocent boy in the mines died with Eo. He is no longer a force of pure rage as he was in the first book, but now a calculated, thoughtful, destructive, and powerful leader.
“But that man is gone. I mourn his passing every day. Forgetting more and more of who I was, what dreams I held, what things I loved. The sadness now is numb. And I carry on despite the shadow it casts over me.”
Servo plays an even more prominent role in this book which makes me so fucking happy. He also takes on a complex character arc as he begins to understand what war really means for him and everyone around him. Servo's loyalty to Darrow as his closest friend and his genuine love and acceptance of both sides of Darrow make a beautiful found family/friendship.
“I’m Gold, bitch. What’d you expect? Warm milk and cookies just because I’m pocket-sized?”
Mustang also comes back to remind us she is a genius and a badass and to keep Darrow in line. We begin to realize how torn Mustang is between what she believes and her love for her family. She proves time and time again that she would do anything for her family but not at the cost of destroying the friendships she's built unless absolutely necessary.
Victra is chaotic, sassy, brilliant, and severely underused in this book, I love her.
Lorn, Darrow's tutor is a complicated and wise man who tries to keep Darrow from falling into the same path he did. He has large role in golden son because I think Darrow sees him as the father figure that he lost. And its clear Lorn sees the same familial relationship and love for Darrow.
“A fool pulls the leaves. A brute chops the trunk. A sage digs the roots.”
Augustus, the very man who killed Darrow's wife, is Darrow's Archgoverner and leader. He gives Darrow orders and keeps him at a distance but this develops into one of the most interesting parts of the story. Darrow begins to realize what Augustus is, a man trying to keep order and keep people alive in the only way he was taught how. Darrow doesn't condone what Augustus does of course but he begins to understand the perspective the golds have on life that has been ingrained on them since birth.
“Brutality.” Augustus lets the word hang in the air. “It is neither evil nor good. It is simply an adjective of a thing, an action in this case. What you must parse is the nature of the action.”
Ragnar is the final character I'll talk about because many of the other arcs are developed through major spoilers. Ragnar joins our little crew about halfway through the book. He's a powerful obsidian who takes to Darrow because he sees him almost as a kind and merciful god in the beginning, but a friendship blossoms from their and Darrow places a lot of trust in the tortured yet loving man.
The Gold spits. “You send a dog to do your fighting?” “I am a man!” Ragnar roars louder than the screaming engines of a passing ship.”
Anyways if you haven't tried the red rising series I highly suggest it. Seriously. Its incredible

THE POSITIVE & NEGATIVE; Mun & Muse - Meme.
fill out & repost ♥ This meme definitely favors canons more, but I hope OC’s still can make it somehow work with their own lore, and lil’ fandom of friends & mutuals. Multi-Muses pick the muse you are the most invested in atm.
My muse is:   canon / oc / au / canon-divergent / fandomless /
Is your character popular in the fandom?  YES / NO.
Is your character considered hot™ in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK.
Is your character considered strong in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK.
Are they underrated?  YES / NO.
Were they relevant for the main story?  YES / NO.
Were they relevant for the main character?  YES / NO / THEY’RE THE PROTAG.
Are they widely known in their world?  YES / NO.
How’s their reputation?  GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL.
How strictly do you follow canon?  — I’d like to think I follow canon fairly decently in regards to Giselle’s powers but then again there really isn’t much to follow. So we’ll go with a shaky ‘ehhhh’.
SELL YOUR MUSE! Aka try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutuals.  —  She’s one of the most objectively fucked up Sternritter. Her powers completely spit in the face of everything the Soul Reapers try to abide by and their cycle of life and reincarnation by basically crushing it under her heel and refusing to allow the process of death to run its course. She’s also just such a cheery and utterly irredeemable villain which is so refreshing sometimes. None of that brooding ‘woe is me my powers and situation makes me so sad’ no no no, she is here to FUCK shit up for everyone and laugh while doing it. Also the whole idea of forcing someone to fight against their will is just so supremely fucked up but always interesting to see in action. She could have singlehandedly turned the tides of the Quincy invasion if she got her hands blood on the right people and that’s a terrifying though. Also a lot of her motif and powers link closely to the sort of biblical fucked up imagery of angels that you can see in novels like Paradise Lost or Dantes Inferno or the Old Testament, that just themeatic attitude of like show no mercy even to the weak and how morals are meaningless in the face of war and if you’re doing everything in the service of god then even the most fucked up actions can be justified, so if like me, you’re a huge nerd for that shit, she is PERFECT.
Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?).  —  She’s one of the most objectively fucked up Sternritter. She’s annoyingly over powered in the sense that she just doesn’t die, which can really be a sticking point for some people because it just seems like there’s no threat present when she’s around. I also don’t blame anyone for being disinterested with her portrayal and character as it is in the manga since her whole identity seems to just be a shitty allusion to predatory lesbian trope and god awful transphobic jokes, so seeing those it can be easy to think that’s all there is to her character and not even want to entertain everything else she has to offer. Also the way that she treats Bambi, turns even my stomach, so I absolutely do not blame anyone who might want no interest in any of that and the implication of those scenes.
What inspired you to rp your muse?  —  (Kaiman lol) She was one of the femritters I naturally gravitated towards because of her fight with Mayuri and I fucking hate Mayuri soooo, queen rights! Also I just love characters who can like puppeteer and control others against their will, there’s something so really interesting about that power in fiction and it always gives way to tons of angst and sadness which is absolutely my shit. I also had a ton of issues with the way that Kubo presented her in canon, especially in regards to her trans identity and I kept obsessing over that and wanted to kinda push away from all those shitty moments and try to focus more on her powers and attitude as a young Quincy who was eager to join a war and murder her way up the ranks.
What keeps your inspiration going?  —  My love for evil women. But you know, mainly music and goth aesthetic posts. Also other pieces of gothic literature and undead monster lore and mythos. If there’s a will and way, I will always find a way to bring it back to Giselle.
Some more personal questions for the mun.
Give your mutuals some insight about the way you are in some matters, which could lead them to get more comfortable with you or perhaps not.
Do you think you give your character justice?  YES / NO.
Do you frequently write headcanons?  YES / NO.
Do you sometimes write drabbles?  YES / NO.
Do you think a lot about your Muse during the day?  YES / NO.
Are you confident in your portrayal?   YES / NO.
Are you confident in your writing?  YES / NO
Are you a sensitive person?  YES / NO.
Do you accept criticism well about your portrayal?  —  Haven’t gotten any yet but I am always open to it. I know there’s a ton of choices I’ve made in my portrayal that are open to heavy scrutiny, like making her very young contrasted against the other Sternritters, making her a serial killer, making her a self declared man eater etc etc. Even though my main goal with rp is to just have fun, I’d never want to do so at the expense and well being of others, so if anyone has some serious critiques to make about Giselle or to say that she’s making them feel uncomfortable, then it’s the absolute bare minimum for me to listen and be considerate about that criticism!
Do you like questions which help you explore your character?  —  If I say no that makes me look like a mad woman and an asshole but like GKJLASDKDJSA look its really hard to try to explore a lot of the inner depths of a character like Giselle who just joyfully takes pleasure in others suffering. Like she’s just here to kill and eat people, trying to explore the why and how and who led her into that way of thinking and informed her deeper beliefs, high key gives me a headache. Sometimes she’s just evil and a dickhead for the sake of being an evil dickhead. I have to be in a very specific headspace and mood to want to discuss in detail her attitudes and beliefs and how certain personality traits of her came to be and even when I do that, it’s not usually public. As I write with more and more people, her views and ideals begin to reveal itself in the threads and situations so I prefer to do the exploration that way via my writing and threads. I’m always open to questions which help me explore her ideals and beliefs and reckoning with her past but because I haven’t made any plans for her to really confront or express those beliefs directly yet, it’s hard for me to explain them accurately or correctly.
If someone disagrees to a headcanon of yours, do you want to know why?  —  Yes! I’d never declare myself as an expert on Bleach since I learn a lot of the nitty gritty details through osmosis of people who do know more than me, so if I get something wrong or a headcanon is a little bit far fetched, I’m always open to hearing the details as to why and how I can improve it. Also a lot of my headcanons are just stupid jokes so if you have one that’s funnier, then I will always love to hear it.
If someone disagrees with your portrayal, how would you take it?  —  In my stride. I always say this Giselle is mainly just a goof so I don’t take it too personally if someone thinks I’m doing her wrong, half the time it’s just be making bad jokes about murder and maiming and cannibalism. There are about a hundred different ways to approach someone like Giselle and mine is FAR from being the most accurate or correct one.
If someone really hates your character, how do you take it?  —  I can certainly understand why considering her actions in canon and how brutal and cruel she was. She kinda is a figure made to be hated and disgusted by and in certain threads I do really lean into her more ‘evil’ side. So I’d never take it personally.
Are you okay with people pointing out your grammatical errors?  —  Dear god please do it. I’m dyslexic and English technically isn’t even my first language I struggle with this VERY bad. Let me know please please PLEASE.
Do you think you are easy going as a mun?   —  I think sooo? I’ve never rushed anyone for replies, I take my own sweet time to get stuck into threads and I approach any headcanons or ideas people have for Giselle with a sense of optimism and good faith! I’m always down for some silliness but I’m always cautious about how far to go with her considering that the way she acts can be triggering in some regards so I like to think I’m both pretty careful and laid back!
That’s about it, congrats for filling out!

A letter to Ted
Writing is an eloquent outlet for me which I’ve had people tell me for years I should be doing something with, so here I am. This blog post starts to reveal the meaning behind the name of my blog. At some point, I’ll write a post about this, me and my story however, right now.. I have another pressing message on my heart to write about.
It’s August. A month within the year that for some reason, has always been tumultuous for me. In saying this, I’m learning in life that my life isn’t about me so naturally, this post isn’t about me. This post is an open letter to Ted, my Grandfather.
On the 22nd August 1964, my Mum was born. A birthday.  The celebration of one’s origin or foundation. For most, the happiest day of their year. On the 22nd of August 1965, heartbreakingly my Dad’s father passed away.  Death. The permanent ending to a vital process. My Dad was four years of age. The most pivotal day in my Dad’s life was met with the most pivotal day in my Mum’s life.
My whole life, Dad has hidden his sorrow on this day because his wife and her happiness has always been more important. This leads me to my why; why I want to write an open letter to you, Grandpops...
My grandfather was a remarkable man. He was in the first battalion of Special Forces deployed out of the United Kingdom, which is commonly known as the Malayan Scouts and spent almost his whole life abroad. From the Malay jungle, to Papua New Guinea. There are stories from these and every where else in between that would be unlike no other. His final deployment was in Tripoli, Libya where he was a Geophysicist. A country that is currently war torn and unsurprisingly, a part of the world my family and I might never get the chance to visit. He was best friends with the Crown Prince of Libya (if I could interject here, but how? Yeah my best mate is the Prince of Libya. Ok, that’s me done for now). Life until August, 1965 for my Dad, his two sisters and my Grandmother could be described as a life lived like royalty. Polar opposite to the life they lived post 22nd August, 1965...
Tumblr media
Charles Edward Mann,
Is Grandpops what we’d even call you? I’m not sure. Maybe it would be Poppy. or Grandad. What would you have preferred? How strange is it that I have never known you, even stranger that Dad has never known you either...
I want you to know how proud of the son you created, you would be. He’s a man of great strength, tenacity, heart and soul. He doesn’t stop, at nothing.
I’m certain you watched from wherever you are, in awe of what life has thrown at him and how he handles life with dignity and grace. It hasn’t been easy, we can both vouch for that. From moving countries at four, speaking Arabic and English, to dropping out of school at fourteen and working three jobs, to being Dyslexic and only learning to read or write until he was twenty five. I wonder how it felt for you, watching your children go through physical and mental abuse at the mercy of another man? I wonder how different life might have been, had you not left when you did.
Life was similar to a mirage, or a movie. That one day, he’d come home and you’d be there. You’d rescue him from his life. Until he was thirty. A day in time, that he realised you were never coming home. It was permanent and this was his life. Some would liken it a mid life crisis. I wonder how you felt on that day, watching him go through a rage of anger, hurt and heartbreak.
When I was a little girl, I would have never have known the animosity and hurt he held conflicted within his heart. He was always happy and he always made me happy. I’ll be honest with you, once I was old enough to know and know better, there were days through my teen years, that I wasn’t sure if he’d come home from work. The burden has been heavy, the weight of the world on his shoulders. He promised me one day, that he knew the pain of what it was like to be without you and his vow to the boys and I was that no matter how hard the day got, he wouldn’t put us through the same pain. He is a man of integrity. Some details that aren’t mine to publicly share but, you know, I know you know. I’m sure you’ve been walking by his side, every step of the way. His tenacity is something I’m certain He inherited from you.
He’s cheeky and loves to not take life too seriously. Where did he get that from? From being the class clown in school, to finding enjoyment in embarrassing young girls by pulling their bikini strings and running away. As a Dad he’s renowned for making up his own song lyrics and wetting himself in laughter from his jokes to always waking up to the day with a smile on his face... There is never a dull moment with him around.
Thank you for giving me the greatest gift in my life. A Dad who has never let me live a day without knowing how valuable I am as a girl, woman and daughter. He’s a Dad who would move heaven and earth to protect and help his Sons and Daughter. There is no end to his love and undivided attention. He is soft, he is tender and he is caring.
I just want you to know how proud of him I am. He’s doing great. I wish you were here, just like I know dad wishes you were here too.
I hope Heaven is your final home and that one day, we’ll meet you there.
Love always,
Your only Granddaughter.
