TARJA TURUNEN Says She Is Supportive Of Current NIGHTWISH Singer FLOOR JANSEN: 'We Are Sisters In Metal'
During an appearance on a recent episode of the "Scars And Guitars" podcast, former NIGHTWISH vocalist Tarja Turunen was asked if she has ever had any interactions with current NIGHTWISH singer Floor Jansen. She responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "We are in touch, and recently more, because she came up with the really horrible news of being sick. [Editor's note: Jansen recently revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer.] So I've been in touch with her. But ever since she joined NIGHTWISH, I was there for her. So it's, like, I don't have any… Actually, I hope she's fine and everything is great with her and she's happy. That's what I wish. Now and then when I am in Netherlands, if I have concerts in Netherlands, she's poking by and so on and so on. It's really, really nice.
"In general, hey, I feel in metal, we are sisters in metal — we all are like sisters in metal," she continued. "We actually do support each other, all of us.
"When I started in metal, I felt a little lonely, because there were not too many girls around in the festivals I went; I was mainly the only girl all around," Tarja revealed. "And nowadays it's so incredible to see so many female vocalists. They approach me — if I do not recognize them, they approach me — they come and talk. And it's really lovely. We have this really beautiful connection and a lot to share. And that is also… I really enjoy it so much nowadays. It has changed a lot."
In December 2020, Turunen took part in an Instagram Live chat with Jansen. You can watch the entire 48-minute discussion below.
Turunen and Jansen previously performed a duet together at the 2013 edition of the Metal Female Voices Fest at Oktoberhallen in Wieze, Belgium. The women joined forces on a cover version of "Over The Hills And Far Away", originally written and recorded by the Northern Irish singer and guitarist Gary Moore and previously covered by NIGHTWISH on the 2001 EP of the same name.
Jansen made her live debut as the frontwoman of NIGHTWISH on October 1, 2012 at Showbox Sodo in Seattle, Washington following the abrupt departure of the band's lead singer of five years, Anette Olzon.
Jansen officially joined NIGHTWISH in 2013 and made her recording debut with the group on 2015's "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" album.
NIGHTWISH's ninth studio album, "Human. :II: Nature." , was released in April 2020 via Nuclear Blast. The effort is a double album containing nine tracks on the main CD and one long track, divided into eight chapters on CD 2.
In 2019, Turunen dismissed Internet chatter about her possible return to NIGHTWISH after her December 2017 onstage reunion with the band's then-bassist/vocalist Marco Hietala during a "Raskasta Joulua" concert in Hämeenlinna, Finland.
"I know a lot of fans would love to see something happen, but it's a very long distance away," she told Kerrang! magazine. "Personally, I don't see anything happening with me and them, to be perfectly honest. Marco came a little later into the band; he wasn't there since the beginning. He was always a guy I was close to. Me and [NIGHTWISH keyboardist/leader] Tuomas Holopainen, however, haven't seen each other in a long time… but we have been in touch. It's not bad. The past is what it is; we can't change that. We can only change the future."
Turunen was fired from NIGHTWISH at the end of the band's 2005 tour by being presented with an open letter which was published on the NIGHTWISH web site at the same time. In the letter, the other members of NIGHTWISH wrote: "To you, unfortunately, business, money, and things that have nothing to do with emotions have become much more important."
Holopainen later called the decision to part ways with Turunen "the most difficult thing I ever had to do." For her part, Tarja said the way she was kicked out of the group proved that her former bandmates were not her friends. "Maybe one day I'll forgive, but I will never forget," she said.
Tarja will release a new collection, "Best Of: Living The Dream", on December 2 via earMUSIC.

hi!!! mouse anon here
sorry it's been so long :3
how are you? I hope you've been doing good!
I've been pretty busy with work and I didn't have a lot of energy to watch the kdramas I had on my list but I've been reading a lot on my commutes lol im past my goal of 50 books for this year!
I did watch good detective season 2 which was honestly pretty good!! I didn't remember too much of the 1st season but they gave enough flashbacks that it seemed familiar idk if you watched it but every character except for the dad character was good. I kept getting reality checks of this is just the problems of the top 1% in society so I couldn't relate or care at times -_-
I had save me on my list for so long but I'm so hesitant to start cause I heard it's kind of a lot 😭 I just know the religious schtick of the cult would make me pissed like you said. I've been wanting some lighter shows lately but I'm not taking it off my list!
I still haven't gotten past the 1st ep of 2521 because of the finale!! how can I sit through a cute relationship only to get that ending 😭😭😭 you're so right, we're over relationships in kdramas! I need a good plot and found family and I'll be satisfied (extraordinary attorney woo had such a good couple even if we'll never know taeoh's backstory 😌)
omg I'm glad you liked the killer's shopping list! it's such a weird mix of genres but I think they handled it very well! (cafe minamdang is also on my list! ooh I'm glad it's similar!)
I've had to skip through many scenes of itaewon class :| the writing was just so weird but ahn bo hyun was done dirty by that show! that dye job/color was just so bad 😭
I'll start big mouth ASAP then! I kept seeing super cute gifsets but then people would comment and say the show's actually dark and emotional lol but I like a good mix of happy and sad (just not too sad)
I still haven't resumed dark too 😭 I haven't been productive at all 😭
my mom watched little woman I think and she liked it and I love the cast! it's also really short for a kdrama so it could be another short and good show!
from the new releases, I've heard cheer up was not what people were expecting and i saw mixed reviews so idk if I want it on my list. I do want to watch rookie cops and I heard glitch on netflix is very lesbian coded so it'll be up my alley! I'm also planning on starting law school soon even though it's been so long since you recommended it! I also heard somebody on netflix was good but I didn't hear as any people talking about it so I'm just basing that off of the 2 reviews I've seen lol
sorry I couldn't give you as any recs as I wanted to but I hope all the good recs find you anyway!!! <333
Mouse anon my beloved!!!! Didn’t think I’d hear from you again after changing the url on this blog actually, hi I hope you’ve been well!!!!
Honestly we’re IN SYNC cause I haven’t had the energy to watch a lot of things lately. And I think it started cause I, too, went on a reading binge since September / October of last year that completely shut off my brain for television. What types of books do you read? Is it the same investigation detective streak as your personal taste in tv? I’d love to talk about it
I haven’t watched good detective 2 yet for the reasons mentioned above…… I’ll def have to read about the plot of season 1 first because even with flashbacks I need to know I’m keeping up with the story as it is. It’s on my list for a unforeseeable future.
Yes save me is a lot honestly. I have an overbearing catholic mother so it was. A difficult series to swallow but for some reason I couldn’t stop watching it. It def awakes some raging feelings in you though, I believe even if you don’t have a strong feeling regarding Christianity in the first place like I do.
Bahahahaahahahha about2521 I FEEL YOU. But it’s also so incredibly in touch with the human experience of love and loss and life. It’s more brilliant because it’s over honestly, it sets the show apart from usual romantic dramas. But it’s still a heavy weight in the chest and something lodged on your throat so I get it if you can’t finish it
I never finished big mouth actually T-T I dropped it off by the few last episodes I believe…. It did got a bit dark by the end but the medical improbabilities of it kind of threw me off. It coincided with me dropping television altogether basically so there’s that
(Honestly it’s been so hard for me to enjoy a tv show lately. I kind of fell down the Thai tv rabbit hole and have occupied my mind with that. Some of their shows are really good. From kdrama I think the last one I truly enjoyed was weak hero class 1. The characters are layered in a way that they feel like book characters, it’s something I don’t usually feel when I’m watching television. It was honestly very very good. I’m trying to distract myself with reborn rich now. It’s better than most things in the sense that I can watch perhaps two entire episodes without exhausting the reels feed on my instagram)
Little woman was good!!! I kept up with it as it came out so I think that’s why I managed to get thru the entire thing. That and my love for Kim goeun. Wi hajoon was his usual extremely charming self also.
I didn’t know glitch was lesbian coded but I can assure you from the 2 and a half episodes I watched of somebody, that one Is heavily lesbian. I’ve also started a few episodes of awaken (Netflix) and it sounds like the type of show you’d like. Not even midway thru tho so I can’t promise it’s gonna be good to the end.
I hope you had a good end of the year and that your job treats you kindly. I also hope that you see this <3 and that maybe I can hear from you again <3

I just finished the s1 finale of Our Flag Means Death. And hooooo boy was that a ride :’)
!!!MAJOR SPOILERS FOR EPS 9 & 10 OF OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH SEASON 1 BELOW!!!
First, OH MY FUCKING GOD WE GOT A BLACKBONNET CONFESSION AND KISS SCENE!!!! IT’S CANON AND NOBODY CAN SAY OTHERWISE!!!! However… I had a hunch when that scene happened in ep9 instead of ep10 that we were probably headed for some angst, though I didn’t expect quite this much angst. The last ep in particular felt so devoid of the usual humor the show has, and while of course there was still some, it was really devastating to see Ed devolve back into his dark past self and just plain heartbreaking to see how much he very clearly loves Stede, especially the scenes with him sobbing alone in Stede’s cabin. And this is part of what makes this show so great honestly - it’s not just “humor and nothing bad ever happens”, there are actually stakes and real emotions, and this is what makes these characters feel so real.
I really had hoped that Stede would make it back to Ed in time by the end of ep10, but I can see why that didn’t happen. It looks like the showrunners really wanted to set up the plot of the next season as a journey for Stede and his crew to get Ed and the Revenge back. Which means that if there is a season 2 (please dear god let there be a season 2), there will be a lot going on. I just really hope they don’t drag out the BlackBonnet angst for too long :( I do think it was quite a ballsy move to end the season like this. Like if for some reason (god forbid) it’s not renewed for a second season, I would absolutely HATE for the show to end in such a way. However, I am extremely thankful that Ed and Stede were confirmed to be in love prior to the angst/separation/misunderstanding. That’s more than can be said for Nandor and Guillermo at the end of the most recent season of wwdits lmao.
I really haven’t been this invested in a show since wwdits last October, and even then I wasn’t nearly as obsessed as I have been with ofmd. I binged all 8 eps last Friday night and have spent the last 5 days constantly thinking about this show, anxiously waiting for the final episodes to the point where I was literally experiencing physical anxiety symptoms (which are finally thankfully gone). It may seem silly that this silly gay pirate show affected me to such a degree, but as a queer nonbinary person, I’m so thankful for David, Taika, and the rest of the cast and crew for giving us such a gem of a show. I’m gonna continue spreading the word about it so we can at least get a season 2, which I’m very hopeful will happen since it seems like interest in this show has increased significantly in the past week.
P.S. LUCIUS IS ALIVE I REFUSE TO BELIEVE OTHERWISE.

Recently, I started seeing this post floating around and it got me thinking.
How old is MePhone?
This post ended up pretty long so I put it under a read more, haha.
TLDR: Due to the lack of information, I couldn’t find a clear answer, however with a lot of assumptions, I concluded he’s 3 years old!
I suppose to figure that out we’d have to figure out: 1. How much time passes between each episode; 2. How much time passed between seasons; And for future reference: 3. Whether the other S2 episodes (that we haven’t seen yet) are happening alongside S3 or after it.
I decided to handle each problem individually as to not lose my mind. :P
The first thing I could think of was the asks Taylor has answered in the past (here and here) but they boil down to “Unless it’s important, we never really thought or cared about it”.
Ok, that’s... a little disappointing. But you know what? Whatever! I’ll overthink things then! I can work with this.
So based on how the characters talk in season 1, the episodes seem to be happening on the date of release (with the exception of episode 18 in s1, of course). So I went and looked at the release dates of every episode of season 1 and calculated how long it was in-universe - A year and seven months. (I realized I could’ve just looked at the first and last episode after I finished. oops.) In season 1 ep 14 he says he’s just a year old. (I would’ve put a screenshot here but the episode has no captions! The time stamp is 3:37.)
If we were to assume he means exactly a year old (which is likely, based on season 2), that means that by the end of season one, he’s a year and 5 months old.
Now, onto season two where things get complicated.
The last time I remember dates being mentioned in s2 is in ep6 where MePhone makes a Halloween based challenge and MePad says he’s off by “over a month”.
Tumblr media
Yea, that doesn’t really narrow it down. So I went and looked at the release dates up until this episode. Here’s the list (date/month/year):
Ep1: 02 April 2013 Ep2: 02 May 2013 Ep3: 25 June 2013 Ep4: 23 August 13 Ep5: 03 November 2013 Ep6: 02 February 2014
As you can see, the gap increased over time. That doesn’t really help!! Like at all!!
If we were to go with the ‘Episodes exactly a month apart’ formula like in season 1, ep6 would’ve been in September so that’s not right. We can only make assumptions but I’ll save that for later.
Episode 9 implies that there are deadlines as to when episodes need to come out as he mentions a schedule:
Tumblr media
And the white board in episode 10 looks exactly like in episode 9:
Tumblr media
(Screenshot from episode 9 when Mic finds Taco and screams ^)
Tumblr media
(Screenshot from the start of episode 10 ^)
So I’m pretty confident in saying that ep10 is happening a little after ep9. Maybe an hour at most? But I think that’s a bit of a reach, since there’d probably be more on the white board if so much time had passed.
And episode 14 is happening right after ep13 (......obviously.)
He also says that episodes 7 and 8 fucked up his schedule? But the eliminations still happened (I’m assuming on time) so like. I don’t know.
............And here is where the canon information ends and my assumptions begin.
Since there’s a schedule, then there’s probably an equal amount of time between the episodes. Based on MePad’s line and episode 5’s release date, we can assume ep6 takes place in December. And if we were to assume that episode 1 is happening on the second of April, then there’s been 9 months between these episodes. That means there’s a month and a half between each episode! Here’s my timeline (date/month/year):
Ep1: 02 April 2013 Ep2: 17 May 2013 Ep3: 02 July 2013 Ep4: 17 August 2013 Ep5: 02 October 2013 Ep6: 17 December 2013 Ep7: 02 February 2014 Ep8: 17 March 2014 Ep9&10: 02 May 2014 Ep11: 17 June 2014 Ep12: 02 August 2014 Ep13&14: 17 September 2014
So if MePhone was 1 year and 6 months old in November of 2012 then at episode 13&14 he’s 3 years and 5 months old!
As for season 3, we have absolutely no point of reference. Not for how much time passes between episodes or when it started. So unfortunately, for that I have nothing. Maybe that’ll change with the following episodes though? <:3c
All of this is ignoring the time he spent living with Cobs, as we have no way of calculating that. MePhone saying he’s just a year old in season 1 makes sense since he had erased those memories and likely started the show immediately.
And uhhh yea, I think that’s everything?? If I’ve forgotten something I’ll either edit or reblog dskjngjjkdsnjfks
Thanks for reading have a good dayyyyyy :D

Fugazi, Fort Reno, Washington, D.C. USA 8/13/2001 (FLS #1013)
Ever since 1968, Fort Reno has provided the space and opportunity for an annual free all-ages summer concert series. According to the Dischord website, “The Fort Reno Summer Concert Series is an all volunteer Washington, DC institution which has presented free shows in the park for more than 40 years. The bills often feature a mixture of young bands just starting out alongside more seasoned bands -- all from the area's fertile independent music scene.”
Even though Fugazi would play the Fort Reno Park premises in Tenleytown almost every summer since 1988 until their indefinite hiatus in 2003 (with the exception of three editions, see also some of my earlier notes via here), a great deal of these recordings unfortunately are incomplete and/or suffer from significant audio discrepancies. Luckily, this one from 2001 is complete and sounds really good too, not considering a handful of sonic glitches, a bit of interference and the audience being low in the mix because of the soundboard recording and outdoor acoustics.
Actually, chances of the event washing out on a regular basis due to torrential rains and thunderstorms have been as high as Ian donning a Soulside tee shirt for the yearly occasion. By contrast, the circumstances surrounding this show in August of 2001, i.e. Fugazi’s second to last stay at Fort Reno, played out differently (at least in a meteorological way, not in the way of Ian’s sartorial choices).
In the course of the set, Guy paints a clearer picture, “I know a lot of people drove from pretty far away to come out to the show tonight, and a lot of people drove not knowing if there was even gonna be a show tonight, and uh, for those of you who haven’t been around the last couple of years, almost every time we play here there’s like an apocalyptic rainstorm every fucking year and it’s always like we’re all nibbling our fingernails and watching the lightning explode and everyone’s freaking out and then we get to play one or two songs and then everyone has to you know run under the umbrella’s for a while, but tonight Mother Nature went off early and we got to play a full set [...].”
The performance presented here might feel a bit rough around the edges, which can arguably be chalked up to the fact that this is the last show Fugazi played in 2001, a one-off gig in D.C. about a month after a two-week trek across the Midwest of the United States and Canada, as well as to the fact that both 2001 and 2002 pretty much rank at the bottom of the list in terms of (the number of) Fugazi live performances, with 32 shows each (compared to 134, 129 or 123 shows in 1993, 1990 and 1995 respectively). Considering this, it is not all that surprising that this show is pockmarked with some instrumental slip-ups or even the occasional lyrical flub.
Nevertheless, it still is an overall interesting and enjoyable listen and it does have a nice flow to it, with many seamless transitions and song combinations, which is pretty remarkable since the band draws heavily from a body of songs that had not yet seen an album release at the time.
The set list showcases 22 songs, or actually even 23 if you count the instrumental intro which might very well be the only documented live version of this specific “link track” (one of many such little improvs, or so the saying goes).
Out of the titled live cuts, no less than 7 are taken off of The Argument and 1 song off of the Furniture EP, recordings which would both see their official release some two months later, in October 2001. A handful of tracks off of their previous work complete the set: End Hits (3), Red Medicine (3), In on the Kill Taker (4), Repeater (1), Margin Walker EP (1) and 7 Songs debut EP (2). Unfortunately, Steady Diet of Nothing is not featured this time around.
There is little banter here, aside from Ian (ironically) chiding someone for demanding some banter before introducing Cashout, Guy inviting people to join in the World Bank protests which were to be held in D.C. in September of that year (little did he know that another turn of events was about to unfold on 9/11), or Ian thanking (the late) Father George [Dennis] for his continuous involvement with the summer concert series since its inception.
Footage of this show is available through YouTube (part one via here and part two via here) as is some more amazing photography by Shawn Scallen (via here).
Interestingly, mention of this particular Fort Reno gig is made in an article by Dave McKenna published for the Washington Post shortly after, as well as in a recent October 15, 2021 article by Tom Breihan published for Stereogum, celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Argument album.
The set list:
1. Intro 2. Nightshop 3. Break 4. Smallpox Champion 5. And The Same  6. Full Disclosure 7. Interlude 1 8. Cashout 9. Public Witness Program 10. Birthday Pony 11. Do You Like Me 12. The Kill 13. Argument 14. Blueprint 15. Interlude 2 16. Five Corporations 17. Caustic Acrostic 18. Epic Problem 19. Interlude 3 20. Oh 21. Interlude 4 22. Bed For The Scraping 23. Burning 24. Waiting Room 25. Interlude 5 26. Number 5 27. Rend It 28. Sweet and Low 29. Outro

Evanescence’s Amy Lee shares her thoughts on working with Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale
“We love each other, and we get along”
Front-women Amy Lee and Lzzy Hale are no strangers to collaborating with each other, Amy Lee having guested on Halestorm’s ‘Reimagined’ EP on the emotional piano ballad ‘Break In.’
This time however, the duo are set to share the stage with one another on an autumn tour that’ll see two of the most hard-working and hard-rocking women in the metal industry perform alongside their respective bands.
Whilst being interviewed by Matt Pinfield on the last instalment of the “New and Approved” music series on 95.5 KLOS, Amy Lee delved into her friendship with the Pennsylvanian-based Lzzy Hale:
"It started with music. It worked out for us to go do some shows together. We hadn't met in person before signing up to do a tour together in 2012. And I remember we had some kind of joint press or meet-and-greet to do on that first day. And I went in there like, 'Hey,' before the fans came in. And we just clicked immediately. She's really humble and really down to earth. She doesn't take all the glory too seriously. She takes herself seriously and respects herself. She's just a really cool person.”
"We love each other, and we get along," Amy added. "We play hard and we work hard. So I'm very much looking forward to playing live music in general; but to be able to go back out for our first tour out with a whole group of people that we're friends with — the crew, the band, we love each other, all of us. So it's gonna be a really good time.”
Evanescence and Halestorm will be hitting the road on 5th November in the US, starting with a date in Portland, Oregon before making their way throughout the country.
Evanescence's career throughout the years:
1998: The band's inception
Singer and pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody formed Evanescence in Arkansas back in 1995, after the pair met at a Christian youth camp. They chose the name Evanescence due to its meaning: "disappearance" or "fading away". The duo released their debut self-titled EP in 1998 and were later joined by friends John LeCompt, Rocky Gray and Will Boyd.
2003: Debut album 'Fallen'
After being signed by Wind-up Records in 2002, the band released their debut album 'Fallen' in 2003. To promote the album, Evanescence headlined the Nintendo Fusion tour in 2003. 'Fallen' spent a whopping 43 weeks in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 and was certified 7× Platinum in the US after selling more than 17 million copies worldwide. The album included hit singles 'Bring Me to Life', 'My Immortal', 'Going Under' and 'Everybody's Fool'. Mega hit 'Bring Me to Life', featuring guest vocals from Paul McCoy from the band 12 Stones, was an international success, reaching Number 5 on the American Billboard Hot 100 and hitting the top spot in the UK Chart.
2004: Grammy Award wins
The phenomenal success of 'Fallen' saw Evanescence win not one but two Grammy Awards in 2004. Their hit single 'Bring Me To Life' won Best Hard Rock Performance and the band won the award for Best New Artist.
2006: Line-up change and follow-up record
After parting ways with both Will Boyd and Ben Moody, Evanescence and the success of their Grammy wins, Evanescence went back into the studio to record their follow-up album. After 18 months of writing and producing, the band released 'Open Door' in 2006. The album featured singles 'Call Me When Your Sober', 'Lithium', 'Weight Of The World' and 'Sweet Sacrifice' and debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard 200. The album and single 'Call Me When You're Sober' have since achieve 2x Platinum and Platinum status in the US respectively.
2007-2009: Another line-up change
In 2007, The band announced that guitarist John LeCompt and drummer Rocky Gray had left. The duo went on to join founding Evanescence member Ben Moody to create the band We Are the Fallen. Evanescence brought in two members of Dark New Day, drummer Will Hunt and guitarist Troy McLawhorn to act as their replacements. Two years, later frontwoman Amy Lee announced that the band were going back into the studio to start writing their third, self-titled album.
2011: Third album release and worldwide tour
Due to delays with their record label, Evanescence weren't able to release their third album until 2011, five years after 'Open Door'. Not that it mattered, because 'Evanescence' debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and Number 4 on the UK Albums Chart and took the band on a year-long worldwide tour to promote the album.
2012: Hiatus and Amy Lee's solo project
Evanescence announced that they would be going on a hiatus in 2012, with Amy announcing in NME: "I haven't been sitting down to write. I'm thinking we'll take a break first. I'm really not sure what I'll do next. At the end of any really long tour you need to get your head in order. I think at the end of the run we'll go on a break for a while and figure things out. "Taking long breaks is seen as a bad thing, but I don't think it's a bad thing. People have the idea that you have to keep putting stuff out while people remember you. But I'd rather make something that's awesome and then make people remember again. I hope it doesn't take five years, but I don't want to put a timeline on it either. We'll all be doing our own thing for a while. They're (my bandmates) very talented and they'll all be fine." Amy Lee went on to release solo album 'Aftermath' in 2014, a soundtrack for Mark Jackson's film War Story. She said of the project: "It's not what you'd expect; there's a lot of blending of sounds, a lot of ominous tones. I play a lot of keyboard, and a lot of Taurus pedal. There's a lot of low drones."
2015: Reunion with intimate shows
Three years after going on a break, Evanescence ended their hiatus by hosting a three-night show at intimate venues in Nashville, Dallas and LA in November 2015. This was just before the band hopped on a plane to Japan to perform at Ozzy Osbourne's iconic festival Ozzfest, alongside Korn and Ozzy himself.
2015-2016: Another line-up change
In 2015, Evanescence underwent yet another line-up change after long-time guitarist Terry Balsamo, who originally replaced Ben Moody, decided to leave the band. His replacement was the German singer and guitarist, Jen Majura from the band, Equilibrium. Evanescense continued to tour throughout 2016, but focused on playing hits from their previous albums like 'My Immortal' and 'Going Under'.
2017: 'Synthesis'
Fourth record 'Synthesis' was released in November 2017. As well as featuring new material such as 'Imperfection', the album included reworked versions of the band's older works such as 'My Heart Is Broken', 'Lacrymosa' and 'Bring Me To Life'. 'Synthesis' peaked at Number 1 on four of the Billboard charts, including US Top Alternative Albums, US Top Classical Albums, US Top Rock Albums and US Independent Albums.
2018: 'Synthesis Tour' features a live orchestra
To promote the album, the band embarked on the 'Synthesis Live Tour' in October 2017. This 60-date worldwide tour was different from any other tour they had done before because it featured a live orchestra. The tour was co-headlined by violinist Lindsay Stirling who also featured on the band's single 'Hi-Lo'.
2020: Brand new music
In 2020, Evanescence released four new singles, 'Wasted On You', 'The Game Is Over', 'Yeah Right' and 'Use My Voice', which all appear on the band's fifth album, 'The Bitter Truth'. First announced in 2018, it was meant to be released in 2020, but had to be delayed due to the pandemic. 'The Bitter Truth' is not only the band's first album in three years, but also their first album with all-new material since 'Evanescence'.
2021: 'The Bitter Truth' is finally released

Hello me again. What are your early thoughts about the tropical rouge/Heartcatch film trailer?
Hiya! 😃
Tbh, I’m not a fan of these cross season collabs even though I am super happy to see Heartcatch’s return to the screen again. M’ pretty sure they’re just there to draw in the old fans and not much else.
Though why they’re not going in order is something to think about too. 🤔
But anyways, this one at least looks a lot more fun than Heal’s. Cuz there’s snow! What little girl whose been subjected to Disney’s persistent Frozen advertising doesn’t like snow? 🤩
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Loving Queen Sharon so far.
She looks like a Princess Snow Serenity to me, haha 😄 and therefore, already better than Elsa :P
Wonder what kind of past she shares with Laura.
Also, not surprised to learn our Mermaid Queen-candidate will take the lead in this movie, too. TroPre really does mostly exist for Laura, doesn’t it? 😅
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND RETURN OF THE OSHIRI PUNCH!!
YEARSHHHH!!!!!! ✊ 😤
……that’s all for now.
With the exception of StarPre, Precure movies haven’t felt like movies in a long time. They seem more like a 1 hour long tv special than anything worth paying a ticket to see in theaters. 😕
EDIT: I’ve got one major complaint:
Tumblr media
Why do they keep portraying Tsubomi so wussy when she already showed how much stronger and confident she’s become since Heartcatch season ended?
Anyone still remember DX3?! Hello! That’s the Tsubomi we should be getting! Not resetting her to 1st ep and having her play some weird manzai duo with Erika. 😒
Also…
Tumblr media
Guess I’m killin’ Manatsu in October. 😊
…lol, I’m joking! 😅🤣

SPN Spoiler Sheet, Update 8/15
Since filming is underway this week, this seemed like a good time to put this back out there. I don’t see the utter hysteria on here about the ending, (particularly involving Cas) on Tumblr here like I do on Twitter but why not have this be out there in the universe for all instead of only on my google account where I hoard spoilers like a squirrel.
I am a teacher prepping for online learning, so I haven’t had time to link sources other than “I saw this on social media” so DON’T TAKE THIS TOO SERIOUSLY FOR F*UCKS SAKE. Also, if you could not copy and paste this unto your bullshit journalism site, that would be awesome. Ahem. Certain person.
Under the cut...
DISCLAIMER: This is gathered info from various sources. This is not confirmed information. Stuff in this WILL be wrong. Don’t take this too seriously. This is for fun. Also, if you use this info for another publication, please let me know as a courtesy. Don’t be a dick. It's all out there, but it hurts to see my same phrasing on other publications after all the work I’ve done to consolidate it…
General Info (oldest to newest). This is a blend of pre-COVID and post COVID, so some might change.
They are adding a whole extra day to filming to do the final scene. They will film the final scene last.  (Implies logistics- lots of returning people?) PRE COVID SPOILER,I would imagine that is no longer the case
In an interview, Kripe indicated that the series ending would have “peace” for Sam and Dean
Not much new at the TCA’s, but it was said it is “unlikely” Jeffery Dean Morgan will be back since his last appearance was such a good end note. There were some jokes about a Castiel spin off.
There will be a special tribute ep (Post COVID talk seems to indicate this will still happen)
Misha will be in 15 out of 20 episodes this season (he’s missed 3 so far and I suspect will miss 14 and 16, unclear about 19).
Cas’ deal with the Empty may come up later in the season.
Jack will be a critical part of the ending of the show
Dean and Amara’s connection will be explored
There will be a bunker themed episode (MarySue article)
In one of his cookbook interviews, Misha used the word “we” several times when talking about the final scene of Supernatural. He said that would be the last scene they shoot. It seemed to imply that he was in the scene, but that could be open to interpretation.
JaxCon/Vegas Con spoilers:
Misha said the ending was “happier than he expected” but also had some sadness. He later used “sad and redemptive”
Misha mentioned that Claire will be mentioned on the show, but as of yet not appear.
Dean says the line “stop killing my people” (to god?)
Jensen said he doesn’t see how the story could continue past this season, but Jared said its more of “a see you later”
Misha confirmed he’s in the final scene, but he also indicated he had one week of filming left (total?) PRE COVID SPOILERS
Al Cal posted a pic of a “thrown away” call sheet that seem to indicate Micheal, Lucifer, and a character named “Betty” interacting in the bunker. Unclear as to the validity.
There will be a flashback episode
Charlie (original flavor) will return
Filming will resume on Aug 18th. Per Canadian policy, they must quarantine for two weeks. Those quarantining seems to include:
Fairly Clear: Jared, Jensen, Jake Abel (Micheal), Rob Benedict (Chuck/God)
Unclear/Rumored: Misha (he is being deliberately cagey), Alex Calvert (Jack- AlCal lives in Vancouver so does not need to), Mark Pelligrino (Lucifer), Osric Chau (Kevin- but likely for another project, he was a week ahead of everyone else)
Reasons Unlikely: Sam Smith (chemo treatment), Kim Rhodes (working at a camp during quarantine)
Jensen said sp 19 is more of a season finale, while 20 is a series finale. Repeated in interviews/livestreams.
Megan Fitz. (Dabb’s former assistant/writer) complimented both Dabb’s and Glynn’s writing on twitter. Not sure if it is in reference to rewrites or the special retrospective that is planned.
Jensen indicated that the ending did change per COVID protocols. Unclear how much.
Misha is being very, very cagey about where he is. Some live streams seem to indicate he is not at home, but he has yet to confirm- his presence in 19/20 is hard to track.  In an interview with Metaverse, he was in bed in a hotel looking space and you could see mountains in the background.
Misha has thrown around the words “final”  and “what he <Misha> would have wanted” per Cas’ ending, “Sad/Proud” and “poignant” were also used.

Ape Dos Mil Extended Chapter Notes
6 / 9 Pure Love
Hyperlinks appear in blue (underlined on mobile and the dashboard). The story is posted here. Direct link to this chapter is here.
As it turned out, when James had to go dark for 48 hours, it pushed Teresa deeper into the cave. James sat in a hotel room on the other side of town while Teresa bought a hotel. James looked into Isidro Navarro while Teresa got ready to make her pitch to the guy and expand her business to Europe. While she dined, James was on the wrong side of the day.
When I first introduced lyrics from Glassjaw’s “Ape Dos Mil” into the story in the second chapter, I mentioned it was the lyrics and mood of the song overall that inspired the story. This paragraph is borrows from the main verse of the song:
Yeah, it's over You can bet in mid October I will still be ranting 'bout most early May Yeah, he's a winner He's a goddamn sinner While he dines I'm on the wrong side of the day And I said, "I don't understand why I'm fumbling after" You're the reason i cannot forget this season Or the letter when you first referred to it
She was going to go her own way, make all the deals, gain more more more. James had to be down for that not just because he was in love with her, but because he had a higher purpose—thanks to the universe—when it came to Teresa. But James wished she didn’t go around ignoring all the signs of danger. He wished she didn’t walk around like nobody was going to break her heart or like she could elude death. Hadn’t she learned, losing Tony, that the #1 special on the menu in the underworld was breaking hearts, one way or another?
There’s a Mac Miller song, “My Favorite Part” with these words: You walk around so clueless to it all. Like nobody gonna break your heart. It'll be alright babe, see, me, I got you covered. I'm gon' be your lover, you might be the one.
So the line in the paragraph about queenpin Teresa walking around like nobody was going to break her heart is a reference to that. There’s also a line in the song that goes, The universe couldn’t keep us apart--why would it even try? Very soulmate-y but different in that for Jeresa it is because of the universe they are soulmates.
But nothing moved Teresa. She didn’t let up. She wasn’t going to confess to using, since she was going out of her way to hide it. She didn’t own up to the responsibility of being targeted and putting them all in danger unnecessarily because she had to have Europe.
The first line of this paragraph is sort of a reference to the album Still Nothing Moves You by Ceremony.
Teresa was screaming, to feel the pressure in her throat, to drown out the noise in her head, when she took to the neatly pressed blazers along the back of the closet. She ripped as many off the hangers as would go, letting the different shades of white pool at her feet on the carpet. The jewelry station was next—earrings, necklaces, and rings ripping into her hands before she decided there were too many for a few handfuls, picking up the entire velvet drawer insert tray and dumping it to the side, fully enraged.
When she swung her arm around, Teresa caught a glimpse of herself in the full-length three-way mirror. Her breath caught in her throat. She saw herself, and there, over her shoulder, was herself—the girl from Culiacán.
“You forgot the most important thing is survival. You have to get out of here,” the girl pleaded. “You have to go. Run.”
So, uh, I changed a lot from canon. In 5x07, the scene cuts soon after Teresa yells “Fuuuuuuuuuck!” and throws her phone. In the next scene of Teresa, she’s in the sitting area of her room doing coke, and when she looks up at the mirror across from her, that’s when she seems old Teresa in flannel.
I had this scene planned out in my head before 5x07 aired and I always thought, when Teresa found out Boaz killed George, she would react violently and destroy her closet. So here in the story, Teresa is still inside her closet when old Teresa shows up.
“I’m not leaving without them,” Teresa told off the girl standing behind her in the too big flannel.
A reply never came but when Teresa looked back in the mirror, the girl was still standing there with terror in her eyes.
“I’m not leaving,” Teresa vowed.
The girl watched her. Teresa closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths. It was the cocaine talking, the two big hits she’d taken while already upset. She knew that. But the girl remained, watching Teresa in silence.
In 5x07, Teresa has this conversation with Avi. But if she’s shut herself in her closet, then this conversation becomes a face-off with her former self. I think I like that better, actually.
It also eliminates the whole exchange with Avi saying James ordered for the plane to be ready and that Teresa should get out of the country immediately. After everything they’ve been through I don’t buy that James would take it upon himself to make that decision for her, regardless of how worried and protective he is. Sorry not sorry, canon, but that just doesn’t make sense for these characters.
Teresa wasn’t sure if she sat there for minutes or hours. She paid no attention to how much light was streaming in through the window. In silence, the tears flowed and brought her back down to earth. She only knew a significant amount of time had passed when the white noise stopped ringing in her ears and a familiar burning feeling took hold in her chest.
That was the universe’s doing. It meant James was back.
She heard indistinct chatter from outside the closet in the main room. She listened closer. There was James’ gravelly voice, then a pause, followed by Pote, low and gruff. They exchanged words and then came a third voice, higher in pitch with a familiar Texas Southern drawl—Kelly Anne.
Teresa sighed. They were back. She’d never been so thankful for the hurt in her chest.
More changes to canon. James gets to Kelly Anne and Pote before Boaz and makes sure they get back to the safe house.
Here’s the thing. I hate the whole kidnapping plot of 5x08 and think it’s unnecessary. Much of the episode is spent on Pote grunting and yelling nonsensically, making lame threats. And what happens? Pote doesn’t save the day. Kelly Anne saves herself. I haven’t even mentioned the fact that Teresa calls Boaz and tells him she’ll give him the business (and she was not bluffing, by the way) as long as he lets Kelly Anne go.
Omg. The action of 5x08 is fine. We get to see James in green. But the actual story...the plot of it...what the fuck is the point? The majority of the episode is wasted on Kote (the season is pretty much #Kote of the South at this point) when really it should focus on Teresa, and on the Castel/Devon/Kostya stuff.
So yeah. I said hell no, unlike canon I refuse to let Kote take over in my story. The queenpin storyline gets abandoned completely in canon with no proper resolution for how Teresa gets back to herself. It’s like she goes from the queenpin, caring about nothing but the business, then suddenly remembers her true personality and is the old Teresa again.
And for what? All because of the kidnapping plot? No. Just no. I couldn’t do it.
Eliminating the KA’s kidnapping doesn’t eliminate the Boaz problem or the Kostya problem or the Devon problem. So I axed it.
She’d said the same less than a week ago in Berlin, looking over the city skyline. But this time it had no bite and sting.
There’s a song by Defeater called “The Bite and Sting” and the phrase in the second sentence above comes from that title. If for whatever reason you decide to listen to it, there’s a line in the song that goes We ain’t seen no Germans for days, because Defeater’s music is conceptual and tells interrelated stories over the span of their albums. The EP that “The Bite and Sting” is on, Lost Ground, is about a black WWII veteran. The song is about being in the war and that’s why the line I mentioned is there. Kind of ironic, because I was not thinking about the fact that Teresa said to James “say it” while they were in Germany.
Anyway, that was a longwinded explanation just to say: the context of the reference and the way the phrase is used in the sentence are not related.
Self-preservation had always been key for James’ survival, and over and over he threw it away for her. So his words hurt because they were honest, because they pointed out the mistakes she’d made when it came to him. But Teresa admired James for standing up for himself and showing his backbone. He was there for her—they were in this together—but he wouldn’t allow himself to be used. She had to prove herself, to somehow make amends. And she loved him for it, to be given the opportunity.
Because beyond striking the balance with herself, Teresa knew that if she wanted the pure love only soulmates who were lucky enough to find each other and chose to be together could have—not just tough love—then the days of shutting James out had to come to an end as well.
In the notes for Good Luck/Bad Days (a completely separate and unrelated story) I mentioned that one of the songs I ended up referencing, “Pure Love” by Hayley Williams was actually meant to be used in this story. I think pieces of the song fit better lyrically in Good Luck/Bad Days, but conceptually (are those different? I feel like they are different) it fits better here. So. That’s where the chapter title comes from.

24/10/18 - woman like me (woozi)
to a boy i love right now
w.c. 2.7k
October 16, 2018
October 24, 2018
She breezes around Seungkwan, a constant whirlwind every morning before her 10 o’clock class. She snags her toast and quickly butters it. While munching, she goes to the fridge and scans it for her lunch for the day. Seungkwan had cooked the night before since Hansol and Mingyu had come over for dinner. Since the pool game, she’d seen more of Mingyu, which was nice.
She quickly tosses a layer of rice and then chicken into a container. She deems that sufficient for her break between lecture and lab. “Is Hansol taking you to school?” she asks as she heads to their dining table to collect her things together.
“No, we’re going to meet at the bus stop,” Seungkwan says. He washes his bowl from his cereal. When the water stops, she can feel his eyes on her. Meeting his gaze, she finds Seungkwan tilting his head in concern.
Sighing, her gaze falls back to her backpack. She pulls her toast out of her mouth to ask, “What, Seungkwanie?”
“Are we really not going to talk about your date?” Seungkwan demands.
The date had been last week. It had been… awkward, to say the least. Hansol had warned her in advance that Jihoon wasn’t much of a talker, but also didn’t like when people talked too much.
“There’s this dance major that he complains about all the time,” Hansol had told her. “He just goes on about himself and the things he’s done.”
But she’s a talker in one-on-one situations, so she had found herself being self-conscious about how much she was talking. When she would ask Jihoon questions just to get him to loosen up, as Hansol had also warned her that he wasn’t a huge people person, he would give her stunted answers. By the time she’d had to leave for class, she was unsure if Jihoon just found her uninteresting or was terrified of her.
“I’m surprised that you haven’t heard about it through the grape vine yet,” she comments with the last bit of toast in her right cheek. She takes her water bottle to Seungkwan to fill as she disappears into her bedroom. She searches for her headphones before remembering she’d tucked them behind the door along with other school stuff when Hansol had arrived last night.
She wraps the cord around her fingers and stuffs it into the front pocket of her backpack.
“Lab coat?” Seungkwan reminds her as he closes the water bottle lid, tightening it to make sure it doesn’t leak.
“Right!” She hurries back into the bedroom and plucks it off the back of the door.
“Okay, you have all your stuff,” he asks as he passes the water bottle and food across the counter. He added an apple and a tangerine to her stack of food. “You need to eat more,” he insists when he catches her expression.
She smirks. “Okay, I will.”
“Now that you have all your stuff,” he tries again, “can you talk to me? You haven’t said anything about it.”
“Because…” She’d been avoiding discussing it, because Jihoon had been her first date in a while. Mostly because she hadn’t found anyone who interested her enough, and because a lot of the people in her biology major were either so focused on school they couldn’t see anyone or were already with somebody. It didn’t bother her, but maybe she’d had too high hopes for Jihoon. The date hadn’t been bad, but it wasn’t anything to write home about either.
“I don’t know,” she mutters. She zips up her bag and hikes it over one shoulder. It’s heavy, as it always is. She sets it by the door and then hops onto the counter as she’s got a few minutes before she needs to head down to catch the bus to school. “Not every date can be a good date, I guess.”
“Jihoon hyung seemed to like you though,” Seungkwan presses. He turns slightly leaning his hip against the counter, arms crossed over his chest.
“I know, but it was just…” She shrugs, shaking her head.” Awkward. Like we had nothing to talk about.”
“You? Had nothing to talk about?” Seungkwan tips his head back in disbelief, his jaw open. “Noona, we spend four hours talking at the table when we should be studying.”
“I know, but I know you,” she argues.
“The first night we met we talked for five hours on the couch at Jeonghan hyung’s party?”
She sighs, running her hand through her hair. “Hansol told me that Jihoon isn’t much of a talker and that he doesn’t really like people. I was grasping at straws the entire date.”
“Do you like him though?”
She shrugs. “I wouldn’t say no to a second date, but he hasn’t texted me since last week.”
“Nothing?” Seungkwan frowns. “That’s weird.”
“I don’t think he liked me very much,” she admits.
“What makes you think that?”
She checks her watch and slides off the counter. Scooping her bag onto her shoulder, she answers, “How he didn’t seem interested in the conversation? It was mostly just the vibe I got off him.”
Seungkwan nods his head thoughtfully. “Well, other fish in the sea, right?”
She smiles back at him. “Of course. Let me know when you find me another one.”
Tumblr media
“She thinks he doesn’t like her!” Seungkwan exclaims as he and Hansol climb onto the bus. Their classes don’t start until 1.
Hansol pops a chip into his mouth and holds the bag out to Seungkwan who takes one. “That’s weird. Hyung seemed into her.” They carefully make their way to the back of the bus.
“Finally get what happened out of her and it turns out to be the exact opposite of what you’ve been telling me,” Seungkwan pouts, falling into the seat closest to the window. “Here I thought she was hiding a secret boyfriend from me.”
“I was just telling you what Gyu was telling me. He spends so much time with Jihoon hyung, maybe he was getting subtext.”
“And then getting it wrong?” Seungkwan demands. “If hyung was interested, why wouldn’t he text her?”
Hansol shrugs, unconcerned. “He’s probably nervous.”
“She doesn’t know that.”
“Well you could tell her.”
“Ah, ah. You know I don’t like to meddle.”
Hansol snorts, a smirk on his face. “Meddle might as well be your middle name, Boo Seungkwan.”
Seungkwan frowns. “Well, noona wouldn’t like me to meddle.”
“Noona’s trained you well,” Hansol chuckles. He tips the chip bag back, munching on the crumbs before crumpling the bag in his hand. “But she would probably want you to meddle in this situation.”
Seungkwan blinks in surprise at this knowledge. Hansol had suggested that Seungkwan room with her, because they were so similar. He claimed that she just complained about how much of a slob he was and to go find her a better roommate. As they’d been best friends since they were in high school, he wasn’t offended and brought her Boo Seungkwan.
And while Hansol has never steered him wrong in his interactions with her, Seungkwan has a feeling that meddling would make her upset.
“You know him better,” Seungkwan says. “Find out what’s going on.”
Hansol doesn’t argue with him and shrugs. “Okay.”
Tumblr media
Late that night, Hansol, Wonwoo, Mingyu and Jihoon are all holed up in the recording studio. On top of classes, they have their final project to complete. They were supposed to make a 3-track EP and Jihoon had made plenty of melodies, but they were struggling with lyrics.
Hansol sprawls on the couch while they take a break from tossing ideas back and forth. “Hyung,” he says, lobbing a balled up paper with garbage lyrics on it at Jihoon. “You never really told me what happened on that coffee date with noona.”
Immediately, Jihoon’s ears go red. He turns in his chair to throw the paper into the bin. Mingyu watches Jihoon carefully, but says nothing.
“It was fine,” Jihoon answers, sipping his water.
If Hansol goes back to Seungkwan with that, he’ll never hear the end of it. “Fine?” He swings his legs down to the floor. “Noona wouldn’t talk about it either. Seungkwanie thinks it’s ‘cause you two are dating.”
Jihoon sputters, which causes a bit of water to dribble down his chin. He uses the back of his hand to dry it. “Dating? No.”
“So how did it go then?” Wonwoo asks, spinning in his chair. “You haven’t told me anything about it either.”
Mingyu’s gaze falls and Hansol slowly sits up. He looks between Mingyu and Jihoon. Jihoon’s ears are so red, Hansol figures they’re probably burning. “What happened?” He feels himself getting protective. “Did you offend her?”
“No!” Jihoon protests. He buries his face in his hands.
Mingyu glances over at him and then begins explaining. “Apparently,” he slowly brings his gaze to Hansol, “apparently he completely froze.”
“I couldn’t come up with anything to say to her.” Jihoon throws his head back against the rolling chair. He actually causes the chair to roll back a bit. “She kept trying to talk to me and I couldn’t…” He motions with his hands the action of things coming out of his mouth. “Nothing.”
Hansol should have expected that to happen, but hadn’t. “Noona usually talks a lot when someone else can’t come up with anything. She’s good at that.”
Jihoon tips his head back, staring at the ceiling. “It was like she wanted me to fill some of the silence too, so she just… went quiet and I wanted the earth to swallow me. I felt so stupid.”
“Have you texted her again?” Wonwoo asks. “The first date is usually awkward.”
“She hurried off so fast; I didn’t think she wanted to see me again,” Jihoon grumbles.
“Hyung, you finally find a girl shorter than you who also agreed to go on a date with you and you didn’t text her again?” Mingyu demands, jumping to his feet. The short stature jab is said to fire Jihoon up. When Mingyu throws the pad of paper at Jihoon, who catches it in shock; that seems to have more effect. “Noona is so much fun and your type. I can’t believe you haven’t texted her!”
“My type? All I could think about was that she’s super smart and I just… write music. That’s all I know about her! I was going in blind!” Jihoon huffs.
“That’s the point of a date. To learn about the other person,” Wonwoo points out. “What did she say?”
Jihoon shrugs. “She talked about how she knew you,” he says to Hansol. “Then she talked about moving out of her house to be closer to school, how she lives with Seungkwan now instead of you.”
“She was probably trying to find something in common with you, so you would talk,” Wonwoo explains. “You said she asked you questions. Did you respond?”
“If you didn’t, hyung, I swear to God,” Mingyu groans, collapsing onto the couch again.
“Of course I answered; I’m not an idiot.”
“Did you give her Jihoon answers or actual answers?” Hansol asks.
Jihoon’s brow furrows. “How are those different?”
Hansol explains Jihoon answers as being court, a little harsh, no detail at all. “Noona likes actual answers. She wants conversation like this.” He motions between the two of them.
“I can’t do that with people I don’t know,” Jihoon sighs.
“You should just text the woman,” Wonwoo insists. “You don’t have to be 100% comfortable. But if you’re interested in her, go for it. Maybe it didn’t go so bad on her end.”

After she steps out of the shower, her towel around her shoulders, she sits at the dining table.  Her inorganic chemistry notes are spread out in front of her, but her phone lighting up catches her attention instead. At 1 in the morning, she hadn’t really been expecting anyone to text her. Hansol doesn’t tend to message her after midnight and her school friends only really text when they were studying for tests, which they aren’t.
When she checks who the message is from, she nearly drops the phone on the table.
Jihoon (1:08)
Hey, are you up?
She purses her lips, unsure of how to answer. Slowly, she types out that she is.
Suddenly, he’s calling.
“Hello?” she answers.
“You going to bed soon?” he asks.
“I just got out of the shower.”
“Ah.”
“Yeah.”
There’s silence for a long time and she squirms in her chair. What is she supposed to say? “Uhm, Jihoon?”
“Yeah?”
“Why are you calling me?”
“I…” He grumbles something under his breath that she can’t hear. “Are you cool with just talking for a while?”
She blinks in surprise at this question. “I guess.” She pauses. “Is there anything in particular you wanted to talk about?”
“I did want to answer some of the questions you asked me last week.”
This piques her interest. She puts Jihoon on speakerphone and rests it on the table. “Can you still hear me?”
“Yeah.” Jihoon is quiet for a while and then every question she’d asked him comes with an elaborate answer. It’s embellished and long, each answer taking at least four or five minutes for him to answer. And it isn’t lost on her that he remembers every single question.
“I didn’t know what I wanted to do in school, but I had a friend who thought that I should pursue music production. I’ve auditioned for companies, actually got into one, but the training was gruelling. I don’t think I’d want to be the idol, but I really enjoy producing the music.”
“I’d love to hear something you’ve made one day,” she says, meaning every word. Jihoon hasn’t skimped on any details tonight.
“Maybe next time we’re on campus at the same time,” he promises. There’s a small pause before, “What’s your schedule like tomorrow?”
“I have back to back labs,” she sighs. “But if you’re on campus after 5:30, I’m free.”
Jihoon hums. “I should be on campus still. We’re working on our final project all the time.”
“Are you on campus now?” she demands.
Jihoon chuckles. “No, no. I called when I was leaving. I just got into bed.”
She sighs contentedly. The conversation had gone better than she expected. When she checks the time, it’s nearly 3. “Can I ask you something else?” There’s no answer, but she’s learned over the course of the conversation that no answer usually means yes with Jihoon. “Why did you do this?”
She hears rustling in the background as he rolls around in his bed. “I… I was so awkward on our date that I think you might have gotten the impression that I didn’t like you or you did something wrong.”
She hums her agreement.
“And I don’t want you to think that. So I thought if I didn’t have to see you that it would be easier to give you all my answers.”
“Oh.” The phrasing is disappointing.
“Not that I don’t want to see you!” Jihoon exclaims. “It’s just… I see you and I get really nervous. And I find talking to people… hard.”
This lightens her mood a little. “Oh.” Maybe she should offer something up since he’s put so much effort in. “I thought that I had come off too pushy or overbearing. Hansol said you didn’t like when people talked a lot, but then you weren’t talking at all and I felt like I was being annoying.”
“No!” Jihoon grumbles, “Did he tell you about Chan?”
“Who’s Chan?”
“This dance prodigy. He’s young, really young. Younger than Hansol. He drives me insane.”
“Hansol didn’t tell me who it was, just that there was a dance major you didn’t like because he talked about himself a lot.”
“That really only applies to that kid,” Jihoon informs her. “But for the record, I respect him. He can just be too much.”
Chuckling, she suggests, “What if I tell you what I like and don’t like and you do the same, hmm?”
If voices could smile, she swears that Jihoon’s was. “I like that idea.”

I was tagged by @lady-of-the-lotus, thank you lovely 💜
I've been listening to several different playlists lately, whichever strikes the mood most at the time, so we got a little bit of a mix here.
FIVE SONGS
1. no body, no crime — Taylor Swift feat. HAIM
My most favorite song off the evermore album; I love the story, the sound and the overall vibes of the song, it's really cool.
2. Bad Man — Esterly feat. Austin Jenckes
I love this song a lot, it has a really cool vibe and feels kind of raw, which I enjoy very much. And yes, this is the jen-vids-to-bad-man Bad Man. 😉
3. Family — Mother Mother
I discovered this one on the playlist someone made for one of my most favorite fics, and I love it, the song is really fun and has a great sound, and I will definitely check out the band's other music, too 💜
4. Lose — Wonho
I love the sound of his new song, it's really cool and the whole album has some really great vibes. Another fave of mine is Ain't About You, I can hardly get it out of my head, it's so catchy 👌🏻
5. We Know the Way — Opetaia Foa'i, Lin-Manuel Miranda (From the movie Moana)
I've also been listening to a lot of Disney lately, and the OST for Moana is definitely one of my faves from recent years. We Know the Way in particular always gives me goosebumps, I love the choir in it, it sounds so cool.
LAST MOVIE
Space Sweepers
If you haven't seen my meme post, then hello, I'm obsessed with this movie 💜💜💜💜 Space Sweepers needs a whole franchise, please, Netflix, give it to us, pleaseeeeeeeeee
CURRENTLY WATCHING
Hannibal
I've been rewatching an ep of Hannibal every night before bed in the last few weeks and I'm enjoying it. I never finished S2 back when the show was still airing and I haven't seen S3 yet, so I'm looking forward to finding out what I missed
Stargate SG-1
This is one of my most favorite shows of all time, and I started rewatching it a few days ago.
The Wolf
I mean, I haven't watched any episodes in like a week or two, but I'm technically still watching this drama. Ever since ep 15, I haven't enjoyed it as much anymore (thanks to the thing I screamed very loudly about), but I still love Ji Chong, so I'm gonna persevere.
And Becks really made me curious about Word of Honor, so I think I will start that soon 👀
Oops, forgot one, lemme add it real quick
Superman and Lois
There's only two eps so far but I'm really enjoying it, excited to see how it continues. ♥️
CURRENTLY READING
Technically, I'm still reading MDZS, but I haven't picked it up in a while. I also haven't picked up the two books on my nightstand (Mirror Bound and Interview with a Vampire) in a loooooooong time, the last time was probably October or November. 😅 I am however reading two SongXueXiao fics religiously (you probably know the ones 😉) with every update at the moment. 😋
-----------
I've seen this tag go around for a while, so I'm not sure who hasn't done this yet and won't tag anyone specific, but consider yourself tagged if you haven't done it yet and want to do it. 👀

TGF Thoughts: 3x08-- The One Where Kurt Saves Diane
I wrote this over the span of, like, a full year and it is not very interesting. I am posting it simply because I am committed to the idea of writing something about every episode of this series. I recommend that you go check out Evil instead of reading this.
I’m just not intrigued by the clips of news footage about some sort of “Unredacted Unspecified Report” that open this episode.
Diane doesn’t seem to be that interested either: she’s not watching and talks over it.
More interesting (but, tbh, not actually that interesting to me either, because I’m losing interest in this season) is that Diane gets a letter of warning from a ~mysterious source~.
Most interesting of all: Diane and Kurt have a normal morning together.
Kurt spots the letter first and opens it. STOP DIANE. THEY KNOW ABOUT THE HACK. So maybe it’s directed at Kurt. Or maybe it’s supposed to say, “Stop, Diane.”
I still haven’t warmed to Diane’s bedroom set, especially because it still feels like Diane lives in her bedroom and her home has no other rooms.
Joy, Felix Staples has returned. All I have to say about this case is that the day this ep aired, basically what’s happening in this case happened in real life, because… Kings.
Hello, it’s October now and I suddenly felt like returning to The Good Universe and writing. It’s been a while.
My memory of this episode/arc is that Diane and Liz just did something uncharacteristically dumb and illegal, and this is the episode where Kurt secretly puts an end to the shenanigans without Diane even knowing. I remember this episode being satisfying, if only because it got rid of the aforementioned dumb and illegal plot. Let’s see how good my memory is.
Wait why don’t I remember Roger Bart being on this show and why didn’t I note it earlier?! How could I let George The Killer Pharmacist go unmentioned?!
On that note, how did I not use the opening scene of the season (Diane saying “I’m happy” as an excuse to ramble about how weird it is to experience happiness on a personal level in today’s world?) (I was just watching 3x01.)
I’m actively not watching the case scenes so they don’t kill my drive to actually write this.
Oh God, I’m going to have to deal with Blum again at some point. I had blocked out his bloviating. I think this is the last of the Blum/Maia free eps?
The weird Lucca/British actor plot is still happening!!!! I didn’t miss it during all those months in which I wasn’t reminded of it.
The joke about how these TV lawyers aren’t like other TV lawyers, except they are, was funny the first time.
Always great to see how Lucca, who is the head of a department at this point, gets called into other cases frequently. Definitely how things work.
Is it bad that I’m more interested in making a mental list of all the times TGF/TGW have filmed in this little park than this Marissa/Alan Alda scene?
I can see why this is the episode that made me stop writing these for a bit. So far, this ep is all case and a subplot I don’t care for.
You know what else was funny the first time and has hit a point of diminishing returns? The thing where a main character’s love interest shows up in court and then they get thrown off their game and it’s CUTE FLIRTING!!! Find a new, unique way to signal interest, writers!
This gag now involves literal gagging. I’m overjoyed.
Lucca’s monologuing at a toilet about her crush. This plot is cute. It isn’t bad. It is watchable. BUT! I know it’s a novelty, so I’m just not that excited by it or invested in it. It’s not really deepening my understanding of Lucca.
Lucca picturing everyone in court in their underwear is just unnecessary and honestly not funny???
Kurt leaves the warning note out for Diane to see. He confronts her about it and she asks for a drink.
The credits are at 19 minutes in. I do love them. Have any of you watched Evil yet? I watched part of the first episode (I intend to go back to it, I’ve just been busy) and the credits resemble the TGF credits. (Update as of March 2020: I watched all of Evil and you should too.)
Diane tells Kurt about Book Club or #Resistance or whatever I was calling it. Even though Diane doesn’t tell him the full story (mostly for his own protection, and she makes it clear she’s omitting stuff), I do appreciate that Diane and Kurt don’t keep secrets from each other, and if/when they do, they talk about it openly and calmly. I love them.
(I have blocked out Kurt/Holly almost entirely. I know it’s canon, but I still don’t believe it was anything other than a plot device to motivate some unnecessary drama in the TGW finale. God, that finale was bad. Ghost Will? Kurt cheating? GENEVA and Peter? GHOST WILL? Even the slap, which is one of my favorite parts, is more powerful as a symbol than as an actual plot development, since (1) Alicia betraying Diane is something Pilot!Alicia would’ve done to any friend to protect her family and (2) it stems from the nonsense about Kurt cheating and Peter tampering with evidence. What a letdown of a finale. The Kings are lucky they got to redeem themselves with TGF.)
(As anyone who’s had a one-on-one convo with me about the TGW finale at any point in the last three years will tell you, I will NEVER tire of discussing it, even if it means rehashing the same points over and over and over.)
I forgot about the thing where it wouldn’t stop storming in season 3.
Don’t have much to say about Kurt devising a plan to help Diane get out of trouble, but I do find it very fun!
OOOOH this is the episode about censorship that got censored!!! If you haven’t already, do read Emily Nussbaum’s piece about the behind-the-scenes drama of this episode. I thought the “this content has been censored” screen where the short would have been was a joke… but it was actually censored. That may be the most interesting thing about this episode.
I want more character-driven plots. I want more Liz and Lucca. I have nothing to say.
Book Club still believes the con artist who brought them together is something other than a con artist. Book Club is not that smart for being a collection of very smart people.
“So the whole group is bullshit?” Liz asks when Diane loops her in. Yes. But also, like, this is what happens when you do illegal shit with a group formed by a literal con artist. Liz may have an excuse for trusting the group (Diane brought her in), but why does DIANE trust them?
“My life is simple, Diane. I have a son. I have a mortgage. I have my job. And I go from home to work and work to home. So this stuff is, this bullshit intrigue… I’m done. Too much drama,” Liz laments, about a week too late. Where was this last week when Liz was like YES LET’S DO CRIMES?
One of my problems with the whole Book Club arc is that it makes very little sense that Liz would get involved in the first place. I understand why she would be sympathetic to their cause and willing to look the other way on their methods… if she were watching a news report about them on TV. She’s too practical, and has too much to lose, to get involved with a group like this.
An NSA nerd is back!! He’s the one warning Diane!
Okay, picking this back up in March 2020 because *gestures at the world* I have time. Like, I have so much free time I’ve finished 9 books in the last 14 days AND finally made it to the episodes of The Sopranos with JMargs. I began watching The Sopranos in 2017.
As I write this, I have no idea if TGF is coming back on April 9th as planned or not. Unless there’s something in the works for season 4 that can’t possibly be left unfinished or air today, I think they should air whatever they have now. TGF is always timely, and while scenes set in an office are suddenly feeling weird and implausible, they’ll probably play better now than in six months. And we’d all forgive the writers if they had to wrap up the arcs through an animated recap song.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen the TGF credits so I rewound to watch the credits. I went to 2 minutes into the episode, then remembered… they’re 20 minutes in.
Y’all. They blow up a purse with hand sanitizer in it. Did they predict this?!
I wrote that preamble and then stopped writing. But now we know that TGF is really coming back on April 9th, which means I have to stop watching The Sopranos and write these things!
Ah, Felix Staples. I haven’t missed you!
Case stuff happens. Really riveting episode, this one. (It is an interesting case, though.)
Kurt saving Diane is pretty fun. But I don’t have anything to say about it and to write about it would just to be to give a half-assed play by play… and why?
Oh WOW, Lucca and Downton Abbey guy is still happening?!
Getting to see Kurt be really competent and caring is the best thing, by far, about the Book Club arc.
Wait, I take that back, Liz’s speech about voter suppression is also pretty high up there-- as long as you ignore the context.
V excited (!!) to get back to Maia’s bullshit in the next few episodes, not because I want to watch it but because if there’s one thing I’m actually motivated to write about, it’s how the show has handled Maia Rindell. Also, they handle the next few episodes well for her.
Oh RIGHT Liz tells ChumHum about her dad’s sexual harassment issues! And Adrian and Liz are finally going to tell the press! It may mean losing Neil Gross, though.
Book Club is over! Wooooooooooooooooooooo! On to more interesting things!!!
Also gone? Downton Abbey guy, who gave an interview about something new and exciting in his life. Lucca thought he was talking about her, and he was talking about some...personality test that sounds like a cult from the way he describes it? AAAAAND I Googled it and yup. It is. What a goofy ending to this arc I didn’t care about. Reminds me of the way the Marilyn arc ended (with a cameo from a celebrity who she was supposedly sleeping with). Glad the actor was so game to poke fun at himself, but is this the best we can do for Lucca?
Diane thinks she took care of the hack and made it go away. Kurt lets her take the credit.
The end!

i wasn’t originally going to post this since i’ve seen several other (perfectly valid) mob psycho timelines out there but you all wanted to see it so here it is!
this does not include pre-canon or the reigen spin off. the first b/c i didn’t really care lol and the second b/c i haven’t read the spin off for reasons i’m sure you already know.
almost every single one of these dates is based on canon evidence (see notes below) but a few are speculation. i go into depth under the cut so if you want to know, say, exactly what day mob buys the monkey shirt you can find out. if you want to see a specific panel hmu!
feel free to use as reference when writing fanfics or meta or whatever else you might want to use it for :D just please don’t repost
Spring of Youth Arc
it’s not super important how many days pass in ep 1 but i think it’s all within a week. might be some overlap with ep 2 (tunnel exorcism on same day takenaka quits club? according to the manga it happens later anyway)
going by anime here: takenaka quits the club monday or tuesday, tome asks mob to join the club wednesday if i remember right (also the day he goes to the girl’s high school) and he joins the body improvement club friday)
(LOL) Cult Arc
not much to say. it’s literally an afternoon and the teru arc starts the very next day
Teruki Hanazawa Arc
happens basically immediately after the cult. like mob knows dimple for like 3 days before he’s “exorcised”
fight on a friday bc it’s on weekend news
aftermath: mob in pink hoodie probably on saturday, mezato interrogates him monday
Big Cleanup Arc
shigeo mentions in the divine tree arc that student council meetings are on mondays. however only having weekly meetings would make this arc take a really long time so i’m guessing it’s semiweekly. i’m guessing the other day is thursday because ritsu says he has a meeting on the thursday that mob confesses
same monday as end of teru arc: student council meeting where ritsu suggests a big cleanup, mitsuura gives ritsu his card
thursday: big cleanup plan submitted, mezato and onigawara look for mob (for totally different reasons), ritsu in the street w/ tokugawa
next monday: student council plans to get rid of onigawara
awakening lab might be on the same day as above but i’m not sure, mob also goes on a “date” with tome that day and sees koyama for the first time. that night is when shinji’s family gets after him for not being perfect and he decides to go apeshit
i’m guessing the recorder scandal happens the next morning (wednesday?). it doesn’t actually say if ritsu awakens that exact day but i’m just going to say it does
a little bit of time goes by (about a week?) ritsu’s becoming popular and he develops his psychic power. teru vs ritsu happens somewhere here. people are complaining about the big clean up
the day that ritsu and kamuro confront onigawara in the body improvement club room is the same day that ritsu first attacks the delinquents from the other schools (monday)
im guessing a day goes by before kamuro is beaten up (tuesday), then another day before he’s beaten up again (wednesday)
kamuro is absent from the student council meeting the next thursday
ritsu only has his powers for 9 days before announcing that he’s obtained loss
7th Division Arc
one month before touichirou arrives in japan. this makes sense because it’s not like the day he arrives he’s going to attack. touichirou probably arrives in late september or early october, prepares things for a couple weeks
mob goes to shinji’s house on sunday, ritsu and mob talk on the swings monday, shinji apologizes to onigawara tuesday. the kageyama parents know about ritsu’s power by tuesday night (what was that conversation like)
Mob’s Girlfriend Mini-Arc
2 weeks long: one for the elections and one for the dating
sidenote: psycho helmet cult has gained 700 followers by now and it’s been about a month according to mezato (and the timeline!)
mob works the monday after his brother’s kidnapped jeez reigen give the kid a break
going to say it’s wednesday when shinji resigns
mezato talks to mob about running on thursday
one week later: elections! (going to say they’re on a friday). emi asks him out that afternoon
mob and emi “date” for a week. im guessing she “breaks up” with him friday and he fixes her torn up story on monday since there’s enough time for everyone to react. i think the anime has all that happen on the same day though. either way is good
Urban Legend Arc
reigen complains about four days without customers
kuchisake-onna: it’s the weekend b/c mob’s wearing a sweater instead of his uniform and also b/c i doubt mob skipped school
reigen makes his website overnight and mob’s wearing his uniform the next day which means the trip to the urban legend town has to be on sunday
the first trip to the ghost house is on a sunday (what a busy day!), and the second trip is on monday
Keiji Mogami Arc
literally the day after the ghost house wtf (so… tuesday?)
if it feels like 6 months for mob would that mean he’s almost a third year in the dream world? or already is a third year? oh no…
uh technically there’s an aftermath the next day but really the arc is one day
Separate Ways Arc
kumagawa’s birthday is in late september btw. idk if there’s any kumagawa stans out there but now you know he’s a libra
kijibayashi’s birthday: 10/5? (also the day mob finally cant take reigen’s bs anymore)
mob doesn’t show up to work for at least four days pre-birthday (probably five days since kijibayashi’s birthday needs to be on a school day)
reigen’s birthday: 10/10 (also i’m assuming this is either the day of or the day after he defeats the video game thing)
he has to have enough time to offer classes and become a local celebrity… i’d assume he offers that course at his office that friday night (10/12). he’s interviewed that day too. a few days later he goes on tv (i’m going to say 10/15)
goes to bar 3 days after the tv show (wednesday 10/17)
thursday 10/18: reporterless-day
friday 10/19: press conference, “my master… he is a good person” *sobs*)
World Domination Arc
mob has 10 days to prepare for the marathon
marathon on friday (11/2)
teru fights shimazaki for the first time saturday morning, mob doesn’t wake up until sometime in the afternoon, and rei-gun is in the evening
mob sleeps like 18 hours… oof
the kageyama parents return home monday evening
Yokai Hunter Mini-Arc
this isn’t listed as seperate from the Divine Tree Arc according to the wiki but i’m calling it a mini-arc because the broccoli isn’t really the focus
mob mentions the future prospects assignment is due in a week
seri starts working at spirits and such a few days after the wd arc ends
going to guess there’s some overlap with the future prospects assignment and that it’s due sometime during culture festival preparations because otherwise the timeline breaks
okay everyone i know culture festivals are usually on or around november 3rd but according to all canon evidence there is absolutely no way that can happen on time. there’s literally no time. it has to take place at least 2 weeks after the wd arc
going to say the culture festival is nov. 18 because that’s all that makes sense (the previous weekend is too soon, and the next weekend is after the divine tree arc
Divine Tree Arc
Friday: Tsubomi sneezes — why dont u stop doing bad things
Saturday: buys The Shirt
Sunday: Psycho Helmet
Monday: Teru, Ritsu, and Reigen all brainwashed, Mob vs Dimple part 2
Telepathy Mini-Arc
finally a nice long break :D
find out about takenaka about one month after Divine Tree Arc
aliens on New Year’s Eve/Day
inukawa’s abducted by aliens for 10 days
???% Arc
inukawa has to be back by the time school starts
Mob finds out Tsubomi’s leaving the day he gets back from winter break (monday) :(
i think he calls her two days later?
the day after that mob is hit by a fucking car (also student council day so… thursday)
Epilogue + Omakes
we all know the epilogue is on 10/10/2013
the summer omake has to be after the ???% arc but i’m not sure what day. probably july
idk what else to say other than i can’t believe i spent so much time on this

Music... Tuesday? (9/10/19)
Last week was a hailstorm of new and exciting releases. I’m going to do this rapid fire style, sooo...
New Releases
Foster the People have delivers yet another bop with Pick U Up, with themes of millennial dating angst. The groove on this is really funky and fun.
Skott finally released new music! Bloodhound is another slice of her atmospheric, otherworldly brand of pop, (not to mention that it’s a return to her astounding album art,) with a xylophone opening riff and enchanting vocal melody breakdown after the chorus.
Dream Girl by Anna of the North is the title track on her upcoming album, (dropping October 25th,) of the same name, and I’m hyped! These singles have been fantastic, more jaunty and upbeat than her last album, (which I also loved,) but still maintaining that smooth sense of cool that drew me into Anna Of The North.
We got a new Grimes song! It’s been ages! I’ve been starving since “We Appreciate Power!” Violence ft. i_o shows her slipping into a buttery smooth, techno-dance sound that drifts over you in glistening waves, I’m loving it. Also, the visuals are gorgeous.
youtube
When it comes to new albums, we got a whole lot, holy moly.
chapter 2 by girl in red: Like last year’s chapter 1, it’s a collection of previously released singles, but we also got the new track “bad idea!” This EP shows girl in red pushing her music into more contemplative, mature, and rock-tinged territory, and it’s a nice progression to see from her bedroom-pop origins.
ley lines by flor: The boys of flor need to take a break! Are they sleeping? This is their second album in two years! While I haven’t had the chance to listen to this album in full yet, the songs “white noise” and “dancing around” have me excited to sit down and take it all in. Fans of indie-pop bands like COIN or Wallows should give this band a listen.
Saves The World by MUNA: Filled to the brim with electropop bop after bop, I didn’t expect anything less. Standouts include the vulnerable track “Navy Blue” and the lead single “Number One Fan.”
Lost Girls by Bat For Lashes: Apparently this album was built around a character who’s a part of an all-female vampire biker gang. If so, then this album encapsulates the feeling of what that would be like perfectly, listening to this is like being hurtled into a neon-glowing, dive-bar partying desert wonderland.
Driving Music by Mallrat: Upon first listen, I’d consider this a disappointment. However, I have only listened to this EP once, and I do plan on revisiting it as the year goes on, and I have a feeling it’ll be a grower. “Charlie” still stuns, and even if there isn’t a dance pop-y like on Mallrat’s past projects, (”Groceries” and “Uninvited” come to mind,) I’m still up for the music ideas and lyrical themes she presents.
Other Favorites
If You Could Only Realize by Nolan Trotter: My friend dropped this project a couple weeks ago, and it’s a really cool blend of indie rock and psychedelic pop. He wrote and produced everything himself, and he’s a really talented guy, so check it out!
Also
youtube
We’re getting a new FKA Twigs album! Magdalene is set for release on October 25th, and I’m hyped. Also, this new music video is astounding, as is the usual with FKA Twigs.

I'm pretty sure my computer would burn and die if I tried to play the Sims 4 but tell me anyway which packs are the best to buy!
Sims 4 is actually easier to run than Sims 3! Especially if you only have a few packs and no mods installed! They designed it for longevity, and it initially came out in 2014. There’s even a laptop mode designed specifically for people with lower end systems.
And, fun fact, you can try it for free! Origin allows a free trial for the Sims 4, so if you’re worried it won’t run or you’re worried you won’t like it you can always download the trial and test it out! That’s actually how I got into the game.
Though I will note before getting started: Some of the newer packs require a 64 bit operating system or a Metal-supported Mac system. Anything released after October 2019 cannot be played on a 32 bit/non-metal system.
Though at the moment that basically just excludes you from the University pack.
Also note! Different people like different stuff out of their Sims game, so if it sounds interesting don’t worry if I don’t rate it highly. I tend to play with a more realistic slant, and for items I tend to like more modern aesthetics when it comes to clothes and items. With that in mind, let’s get to the list! I’ve divided them up by pack type (Expansion, Game, or Stuff).
Expansion Packs:
1) Seasons: Must Have
I will always, always, always shill for the seasons EP of any Sims game. Frankly, I am of the opinion that it should just be base game, but whatever. It adds dynamic weather and, well, seasons which are two things that will affect your game no matter how you choose to play.
Sims 4 is rather unique from previous sim games in that it adds a calendar system and holidays. Not only can you celebrate holidays, you can actually create your own and freely edit or move them around! I’m not kidding, you can get pretty wacky. Like, worshiping garden gnomes and punching each other in the face wacky. Or you can be a loser like me, make every single Three Houses character, and make them all have a lovely Christmas together because they deserve it :x
2) City Living: Good to Have
This one is down to personal taste. I love the city aesthetic, and the apartments are pretty fun to play around with. City Living also adds some interesting festival activities and four unique city districts. Another boon, if this is something you’re interested in, is cultural diversity! Sims 4 has been making a concentrated effort to include more diversity in their games, and a lot of outfits and objects in this pack reflect that!
All of the festivals and events will still occur regardless of if you live in the city or not, so you don’t have to miss out on all of the features even if you don’t choose to use the apartments 100% of the time. Though the bulk of the new game-play really is in the city neighborhood.
3) Discover University: Good to Have (Note: This is one of those 64 bit packs)
I admittedly haven’t played around with this one extensively since it just came out, but I think it’s great fun! I put Sim Sylvain, Sim Felix, Sim Dimitri, and Sim Dedue through college and it was a struggle (in the best of ways). Dorm life, subsisting exclusively on Ramen, and staying up until 2 am working on that term paper that’s due tomorrow... What’s not to love? I’m always a big fan of University packs because, again, I like to play pretty realistically. With mods I managed to get them into a collective $80,000 of college debt and can you tell that I’m an American yet?
Plus, this one added the teaching, law, and engineering professions to the game and I will never not enjoy making Dimitri a psychology professor for the irony.
University isn’t really necessary to your sims’ lives, but it certainly does help them out along the way. You can choose to ignore it if you want to, but I don’t really see myself doing that when I play, which means this pack will get a lot of use from me personally.
4) Cats and Dogs: Good to Have
If you’re really into the whole rustic aesthetic then this is definitely the pack for you. The town they added is very cute and one of my more well used towns (currently the residence of all of my Blue Lions Sims). If you want your Felix sim to have 6 cats then this is also the pack for you, because you can’t have pets otherwise.
You can also create your own veterinary clinic, which is a feature I’ve barely touched but I’m sure someone will get a kick out of! It’s similar to running a business or owning a restaurant from some similar packs.
God, and you can do some crazy fuckin things to these pets. You can basically cross breed to your heart’s content, so you can get some weird ass combinations. There’s also a paint tool, so you can have dogs with rainbow fur and cats with green paws. Oh and you can have pet foxes and raccoons, but they basically function as dogs and cats respectively.
All in all a fun pack, even if I don’t use all of its content 100% of the time.
5) Get to Work: It’s Alright
Here’s where I start getting a little lukewarm. Get to Work added three active careers (Doctor, Scientist, and Detective) as well as the ability to own and run your own retail store. And these features are fun! ... If you use them.
With the way the Sims 4 is built, having a Sim in an active career and a Sim family with more than one or two sims can be difficult to manage. You can only load one lot at a time, so if you follow your sim to work then you can’t play your sims at home and vice versa, you have to load through every time you switch. There are no “home businesses” either, so your sim either has to live “off lot” and travel (aka you have to sit through a loading screen) tp the retail store every time you do business, or you build a living space on the retail lot and try to wrangle the game into working. This means you have to manually bring your sims “home” to the store every day, and it causes some issues.
Personally, I don’t like being minorly inconvenienced, so after the novelty wore off I barely touched these features again. Most of the CAS and Build/Buy items are career or retail focused too, so I can’t say it has any must have items. I’m putting it at #5 though because I know many people love these features and happily play around the limitations.
6) Get Famous: It’s Alright
I’ll admit, I had a lot of fun with this pack when it first came out! It adds a lot of really cool stuff, like the reputation system, fame, and what is essentially a YouTuber career. There’s also another one of those active careers (actor/actress) if that’s your thing.
Fame also works in a very interesting way in this pack, too. There are “perks” and “quirks”, so your sim can have their own celebrity brand and hordes of followers, but have extremely volatile emotions or a fear of being touched. Kind of an interesting reward/drawback system that hasn’t been present in previous sim games.
Personally though, this pack doesn’t have much longevity to me. Just like Get to Work it was fun for a little while, but I don’t particularly like playing “famous” sims so many of the pack’s features go unused. The town, Del Sol Valley, is pretty underwhelming with only a handful of lots, and kind of a sunny desert-y aesthetic. Which doesn’t pair well if you like the rain and snow from Seasons like I do.
7) Island Living: It’s Alright
This pack is great if you love island-aesthetic items and clothes, tropical islands, and/or mermaids. Personally? I love all three of those things. I’ve been using quite a few of the outfits and objects and roleplaying them as “Duscur themed” for my Dimidue family. I mean, we have no idea what Duscur actually looked like, but the items are distinct enough from most of the typical items in the game that it kind of works?
Anyways, the reason this is so low is because there’s just not much to do in this pack. Mermaids and swimming and that’s basically it. There’s only one new career (conservationist) and three part time careers (diving, fishing, and life-guarding, which I kind of thought were going to be full time careers when I bought the damn thing...)
I’ll talk about this later, but the mermaids are by far the least interesting altered life state/occult in the game. Vampires (and I believe witches) have skill trees of powers and drawbacks, similar to those celebrity perks and quirks I talked about before. Mermaids have nothing like that, so they get boring to play with rather quickly. Watching their tail flop out while they’re in the bath is kinda fun though NGL.
The town is really cool though. I love basically all the pre-built lots and I love the items, but again if you like snow this probably isn’t a world you’re going to be using much. That, and to use many of the new features (like boats and ocean swimming and building houses out over the water) you must be in this world.
8) Get Together: Skippable
I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seriously used any of the features from this pack aside from the town. The build/buy is a lot of Tudor style stuff, which I don’t tend to use, and a lot of the clothing is weirdly ugly clubbing clothes.
The clubs are really the big feature of this pack. Similarly to the holidays from Seasons, you can create clubs of sims that will get together and do activities. Basically any action in the game can have a club associated with it (from cleaning to “woohoo”) and you can have club perks that make your club more powerful, and sometimes infamous!
My main issue: If you aren’t actively using this feature it doesn’t really do anything. It just kind of exists as an extra sim panel in the bottom right corner of your screen. And I didn’t use it. Like, at all. That said, I know a lot of people find it very fun! I’m just not sure it’s worth spending $20-$40 of your money on.
Game Packs
I’ll just say right off the bat, I’m not going to talk about Realm of Magic. It adds wizards and wacky magical hijinks, but I bought it at the same time as University and I haven’t gotten around to playing it much yet. I will say, they added a ton of really cool objects and outfits! Especially the rugs. God, the rugs are to die for.
1) Parenthood: Must Have
Two words: Teen Angst. This pack fleshes out a lot of the younger life states. It adds teaching moments, punishments, “character value” traits such as polite or irresponsible, curfews, volunteering, sibling rivalries, mood swings, phases, etc. You want your kid to come home dressed like a bear randomly one day? This is for you.
I admit, I find a lot of the younger life stages in this game boring to play without this pack. I don’t think I could ever go back to vanilla sims after having used it, I find it that essential to my play style. Keep in mind though, this pack will only give you good mileage if you play families with sims of all ages.
2) Dine Out: Good to Have
You can own and operate a restaurant, which functions similarly to the retail stores and vet clinics I mentioned before. However, if you don’t want to own one then you can still plop them down in your town and your sims can travel there for dinners and such.
It’s really good for role playing dates and family nights out and such, but if that’s not your thing and you don’t care about owning one then this is not the pack for you.
3) Vampires: Fun, if You’re Into It
I actually played around with Vampires a lot when the pack first came out, which was honestly just a result of my life circumstance at the time (I was taking a literature course about vampires so I had vamps on the brain).
The vampire skills and vampire banes are pretty fun to mess with, and you can create a lot of pretty unique bloodsuckers. I had a Leo and Takumi sim, and the former was extremely weak to the sun and the latter could walk around in it no problem. Made for some fun role playing.
My two criticisms:
Vampires live forever, which means you’ll eventually get bored of playing the same sims.
Vampires don’t really sleep. They only sleep to recover their vampiric energy, which is only expended through the use of powers. It does not deteriorate naturally, so your vampire could be awake 24/7 for several sim days. Thing is, that just leaves you with too much time to do stuff. They’ll max their skills pretty quickly and then what do you do? Nothing.
Oh, and if you’re in to gothic-style stuff this is a must have for you.
4 & 5) Jungle Adventure and Outdoor Retreat: They’re Alright
I’m putting these in the same slot because they basically serve the same function: Vacations. One involves diving into ruins and hacking your way through jungles, the other is camping, but they’re both basically sim-vacations.
This is another one of those pack types where either you use it or you don’t, and if you don’t it doesn’t really do anything for you. Most of the game packs are like that, actually. Personally, I don’t take my sims on sim vacations very often so I mostly keep these packs around for the items.
Though I will say Outdoor Retreat added a ton of plaid so if that’s your aesthetic then go for it.
6) Spa Day: Skippable
This one basically just allows you to place and build “spa lots” in the world. It added the wellness skill, which ties into the meditation and yoga activities. There’s also saunas and massage tables, but I have rarely if ever placed them in a home lot for personal use.
Another use it or don’t kind of thing. I don’t even have a spa lot placed on my current world, so that just goes to show you how much I use this pack.
Some of the items are cool. Unless you really like those I’d say pass.
7) Strangerville: Honestly It Just Doesn’t Make That Much Sense As a Sims Pack?
Strangerville basically added a story and quest line to the game. I hear it’s pretty fun, but I don’t really play Sims for stories and quests, I play it as a sandbox game. So although I have the pack I’ve never actually played the “story” of it. It’s really not the best Game Pack to get as an entry to the series since it’s such a departure from the typical sims experience.
The town is alright, but again another desert so forget it if you like rain and snow. Unless you really really want the military career or you like the outfits and objects then I wouldn’t personally recommend. Especially for newer players to the series.
Stuff Packs
Honestly there are waaaaaay too many of these for me to rank and I wouldn’t really describe any of them as “must haves”, so instead I’m just going to put down my five favorites. But it’s really up to you to look at the items and decide if it’s worth your $10. Each pack adds a new “game-play” feature, though they’re very small and can be lived without pretty easily.
1) Laundry Day Stuff
This entire pack was actually voted on and “created” by Sims players so that’s a huge plus! More rustic-style items, and the game-play feature here is, obviously, laundry. Since I like playing more realistically, adding another chore was actually worth the money for me lmao. Plus all of the clothes are cute and comfy looking!
The Sims Team also has an amazing sense of humor and named an entire set of the items “Wicker Whims” after the WickedWhims sex mod for the game. Which, honestly? When a dev interacts with players like that it’s always really endearing to me.
2) Movie Hangout Stuff
The aesthetic of this pack is Boho-chic for some reason, so if you like that this pack delivers! The new game-play feature is popcorn and watching movies which can be fun for roleplaying families.
3) Kids Room Stuff
Another one that’s only useful if you play families, but it did add a cute little trading card game for kids. They can collect cards and battle them, similar to Pokemon. Unfortunately, adults can’t play, but I’m sure there’s a mod out there for that somewhere. A lot of the items look really good too, and I use them all semi-frequently. Kids tend to get the short end of the stick when new packs come out, so getting a bunch of hair, outfits, and items for them fills a good niche.
4) Perfect Patio Stuff
Lots of outdoorsy type items, as the name implies. Wicker chairs and outdoor counter tops and the like. This bad boy also brought the return of hot tubs (which probably has the cutest woohoo animation in the game, just saying).
5) Moschino Stuff
The items have a mostly modern, sleek aesthetic, and it adds the freelance photographer career to the game (which is currently what Sim Sylvain is employed as). I basically recommend it on those merits, because the clothes it added are godawful ugly and I’m otherwise not a huge fan of brand-sponsored packs. They’re nothing really new for The Sims, but luxury brands with hideous overpriced clothes aren’t really my thing.
Some Other General Advice for Starting Out
I covered some of this stuff further up but I’ll repeat in case people just skimmed this really long post.
I will warn everyone stay away from “My First Pet Stuff”! You are basically required to own Cats and Dogs to make use of a good chunk of its items, so you might just be wasting your money.
You can get a trial of the game for free if you just want to test it out to see if you’ll like it or if your computer will run it.
Never buy a pack at full price. I’m not kidding when I say they have sales for this game every couple of months. Even if there isn’t a sale there is a bundle option, which is significantly cheaper than buying individual packs! Discover University was $40 at full price. I purchased a bundle with Discover University, Realm of Magic, and Moschino Stuff for $50. Had I bought them separately it would have ran me $70.
In fact sometimes they give the base game out for free! I know they did a promotion like this this past summer. Sims really makes their money from Expansion Packs, so one of their marketing strategies is to give the base game out for free to entice you to play. Even if it’s not free, it’s always steeply discounted during sales. I believe you can get it for $6 right now. I have 1000+ hours in this game, so six dollars is pretty cheap for that much entertainment.
You can see every single item and outfit in a pack before you buy it. So if you’re not sure if it’s for you, just look! The items are listed right there on the Origin store page.
Mods are amazing. Custom content is amazing. If anyone is curious I can create a list of the mods I use/Custom Content I use for my various Fire Emblem sims.
