Can you rank some MHA characters in order from the most likely misgendering Dabi/Touya to the ones who would absolutely never do that according to your headcanons? Common list for trans Dabi and regular Dabi, but write how you exactly see these interactions.
*Both intentional and accidental misgendering counts.
Oh geez... Im gonna make some people mad, ain't I?
Putting this under a cut. These are hcs, not canon, not a personal attack on your faves, just my personal hcs and y'all can take em or leave em
Not really ranking since that's too complicated so in no real order
Majority of heroes/cops/etc are a give away for likely to misgender him. Looking mostly at Gran Torino since he legit deadnamed Big Sis Mag in canon. That wrinkly old geezer.
Endeavor would say he's supportive (mostly bc Touya started transitioning young and Enji wanted a boy anyway) but he'd misgender him "on accident" or when he's mad. Or when he's projecting Rei onto him. Good ol' "you look just like your mother" "You remind me so much of her" etc etc
Rei straight up calls him a girl when she's having an episode. Pry Bad Mom Rei hcs from my cold dead hands. I have mommy issues.
Hawks maybe wouldn't straight up misgender him (depending on hcs/ship concepts) but he'd femininize him for sure. Those dead dove toxic dabihawks concepts though? Yeah, for sure.
Tomura 50/50. A chill Tomura protrayal that's closer to fanon Tomura, no, never and he'd kill somebody if they did. But the fucky nasty Tomura that i like in toxic shigadabi concepts? 100% would misgender him and probably do some forced feminization shit, threaten to out him, blame it on All For One's influence, etc. I've been real, real into fucked up Shigaraki.
All For One and Ujiko, yeah, also would misgender him from time to time, but they also gave him top surgery.
Wanna say the majority of the league wouldn't, but I like when sleazy Giran portrayals femininize him. So like it's a toss up.
A while ago on a writing server with some homies we talked about Dabiten with Trans Dabi and Geten outting him through posting a sex tape and then Spinner fucking up Geten bc he was quirkist to him so he already hated him on top of being a dick to Dabi, and for spinnerdabi in general. <33 but yeah. Geten. I could see him misgendering him.
I wanna say the majority of the todosibs would respect pronouns and all but some might forget/accidently misgender him, mostly like Fuyumi and Natsuo since Shouto probably didn't know him before he came out.

some thoughts regarding the latest bnha ep
Okay first of all I find studio bones’ dedication to objectifying Dabi to be hilarious
Someone really looked at that panel of him lying on the couch and went ‘make him sluttier!!’
Small waist, lower set pants so we can see his v-lines, they are really gunning for that fan service quota
Okay moving on to my actual serious thoughts now:
So this ep confirmed a long-time theory for me, one that I’ve had since probably before these og chapters were even dropped, and I’ve slowly been getting more sure about
It seems, to me at least, that Natsuo’s conception was coerced, and that Shouto’s was the result of rape
Like, we know that Rei consented to having Touya and Fuyumi
Whether or not she wanted Touya is up for debate, but she at least presumably consented to having a child as part of the quirk marriage agreement
And in Fuyumi’s case it’s literally canon that Rei wanted another kid and thought it’d be good for Touya to have a sibling
Obviously there’s massive ethical concerns and questions of consent raised by the whole arranged/paid marriage situation, but in and of themselves, those two pregnancies don’t appear to have been opposed by Rei
In the case of Natsuo, Rei initially refused to have more kids, since she knew that Touya knew that Enji was only producing babies in hopes of them having the perfect quirk to surpass All Might, and she rightfully assumed that having more kids would fuck with his metal health and make him feel even more unwanted/worthless
But Eni basically convinced/coerced her with ‘oh but if we get a kid with the right quirk that’ll finally convince Touya to give up on being a hero and hurting himself in his attempts to become one’
So it's possible that she did technically give her consent in that situation, but it was given under duress and she was coerced into it with the wellbeing of one of her other children as a bargaining chip
As for Shouto’s conception,in both the manga and anime we see Enji pissed off/distraught after presumably learning about Natsuo’s quirk or lack of one, (you can pry the quirkless Natsuo hc from my cold dead hands), a shot of Rei’s face looking terrified, and then an immediate cut to her holding baby Shouto looking both relieved and exhausted
I mean it is possible that Shouto’s conception was coerced like Natsuo’s, but the whole framing of the sequence really makes it feel like Enji got worse with each subsequent kid, his abhorrentness reaching its peak with Shouto
Yeah so the implication there is… dark as all hell
But also narratively fascinating to me,
Like Shouto literally canonically barely regards his own abuse, he hates Endeavor because of what he did to his Mom (and his siblings)
There's definitely some resentment there over how he was isolated as a kid, and literally a product of selective breeding, but the bulk of Shouto’s feelings towards Endeavor, at least pre-sports festival, definitely read more as ‘I hate you for abusing Mom’ rather than ‘I hate you for abusing me’
(this is because Todoroki Shouto is an incredibly, incredibly kind person who puts the pain of his loved ones above his own, and who feels/hurts so much more for others that himself and augh he's such a sweetheart I love him sm but I need him to gain some self esteem right this instant)
Like, we know canonically that he blames Endeavor (and not Rei at all) for the burn on his face, but he also seems to carry some guilt over it himself?? As if it’s somehow his fault he happens to resemble his Father a bit??
We know he at least felt bad enough about being similar to his Dad (again, something that he has no control over) to not use his fire in combat for roughly 10 years
So the thought of Shouto, who was already well aware that his birth was both the result of a paid marriage that his Mother likely got very little say in, and a literal eugenics experiment by his Dad with the sole goal of producing and shaping a child into the perfect pawn to surpass All Might, also learning that his conception was the result of sexual assault/coercion??
The angst potential there is unlimited and totally fascinating
Obviously a shounen manga aimed at, like, 12 year olds isnt gonna get into topics that deep past making some vague, dark, implications, but it's all food for thought nonetheless
Speaking of dark as hell implications:
I don’t know if it was already there in the manga and I just missed it like a dumbass or if Horikoshi added it in after the fact when he was consulted for this season’s production
But the implication that Shouto awoke his quirk as a baby specifically as a result of Touya lashing out and attacking him???
That shit had me reeling
Like augh the fucking tragic irony of Touya, desperate to just be paid attention to by his father, being the one to inadvertently bring out Shouto’s quirk, the very thing that made his dad fully give up on him
And of course, of course, Shoto would awaken his quirk in self defence from a family member attacking him, of course a character who’s whole theme is family and abusive/dysfunctional dynamics, and origin, would have his power awoken in that way
It also, just, adds a whole ‘nother layer to the whole chapter 39 ‘it’s your power isn't it?!’ / chapter 352 ‘Yes, this is my power’ parallel
(Todoroki Shouto is the character of all time I love him with every bit of myself I swear)
Okay quickfire round because I still have lots more thoughts about the Todoroki family:
It was already upsetting enough in manga but the scene of Endeavor yelling at Rei and slapping her as Shouto screams and cries and tells him ‘not to bully Mommy’?? Literally had me physically flinching
I will never be anything but and Endeavor hater okay I don’t give a shit about his redemption arc I need that bitch dead
Can’t wait for the ‘Dabi is a misogynist’ discourse to once again get reignited
Obviously his attitude towards Rei and Fuyumi isn’t okay, but Touya was a child abuse victim lacking in the maturity to see that his Mother and Fuyumi were just as much victims as he was
And to be fair, whilst Rei certainly was also just as much a victim, and didn’t have any power in the situation of her marriage, I do feel that Touya’s resentment towards her, as a child who believes that its his Mom’s job to look after him, is a bit warranted, not necessarily right, but warranted
Speaking of bad faith discourse regarding Touya’s actions, if I see one more ‘him attacking baby Shouto makes him just as bad as Endeavor’ type take I’m melting my fucking phone
How are you gonna look at a 13 year old, self harming, victim of child abuse, with such a warped sense of self worth that he is literally desperate for even a hint of his abuser’s attention/approval, lashing out in jealousy at the sibling who has replaced him and made him, in his Father’s eyes, a worthless failed experiment, and go ‘oh he’s just as bad as the grown man who made the active decision to beat his wife and kids???
The lack of reading comprehension in the bnha fandom is unreal but especially regarding the Todoroki’s
In a similar vein I literally cannot deal with people who victim blame Rei, or Fuyumi and Natsuo, for not ‘getting Shouto out of that situation’ or ‘being complacent in his abuse even as adults’
Like ohhhh my godddd literally all of them were victims in an extremely unbalanced power dynamic, that's the whole point
Please go back to middle school English class since obviously you all were too busy doodling eyes to pay any attention
also I hate that Hawks, of all people, has more sympathy for an abuser that his victims
‘Even if what Dabi said about the Todoroki family was true, I’m sure things are different now’
Sir literally what reason do you have to believe that??
Hero worships rots your fucking brain I guess
Ok finally I have some thoughts about that lil preview we got of the vestiges:
I hate Shinomori’s colour pallate so fucking much I hate I hate it I hate it
I always imagined him with white/lavender hair, and silver eyes, and a purple hero costume with purple scars on his face from quirk overuse/incompatibility like Nine from Heroes: Rising
I hate the blonde hair I hate the green costume it's all so so ugly I hate it all
HOWEVER
Since he was first introduced I have pictured the 2nd user with pink/coral hair, AND I WAS FUCKING RIGHT
The wave of smug vindication I felt upon seeing that his hair colour was practically identical to what I’d imagined him with was unreal
I’m not too sure how I feel about the 3rd user with light blue hair?? I always imagined it as light brown or dirty blonde
I think what colour his eyes are and how they animate Fa Jin is really gonna decide for me whether I like it or not
I pictured En’s costume as dark blue denim (kinda like Jeanist) and whilst the red isn’t bad, the opposite actually, I kinda miss that mental image
Vestige Might should be glowing and flickering like a fire, not just a collection of gold swirls, do him justice!!!
Okay I'm done

Thoughts on Episode 124 (S6 E11)
Reeling reveals, devilish dancing, and brutal broadcasts. Let’s talk about it
HUGE spoilers for the episode but nothing for the manga. That said, it is wild that the contents of this episode are no longer considered a spoiler
Oh boy these Dabis sure do be dancing
I am going absolutely feral this episode was so good!
However I will do my best to stay composed
I gotta start with a nitpick just to get it off my chest. Way back in episode 1 of this season, they added a frame when Twice talks about the League that showed Dabi sitting in a chair. Many people (myself included) assumed this was a reference to his video, but the chairs were different colours (ep 1 it was blue, now it is red)?! WHAT?! WHY?! I know it’s random but it just bugs me. This season has been really good with keeping little details straight and then they do something like this. Given the fact that Dabi was wearing clothes in that scene, it is now my hc that he filmed multiple versions of this and picked the one that felt the most dramatic (must have decided that shirtless with a red chair was the way to go lol)
And I need to reiterate: that is absolutely a nitpick that in no way takes away from the rest of the episode. I just found it odd that they went through the trouble of adding such a scene to episode 1, but didn't keep it consistent
Ok anyways as for the episode itself
ueah this good
Brain happy
The first, Dabi-less half is honestly wonderful, which surprised me that they put so much effort into it
Ochako and Toga both looked gorgeous, and the tension between the two was done lovely
Then the episode switched to Endeavor and like one insanely smooth shot and this episode went from a 10 to a 10 billion
However, I’ll admit it, I kind of didn’t like the rearrangement regarding the broadcast. I loved how the manga had a little hint in the Toga section of tvs losing their signal, then the chapter starts with Rei, goes to the battlefield, and then cuts back to the broadcast
The bit with Toga made it all feel connected, like it’s happening at the same time, but it’s fine that it’s gone
I’m more disappointed by the rearrangement with Rei. It gave it a bit of build up that the anime adaptation now lacks, and honestly I was a bit taken aback by how sudden the moment popped up
I mean I guess props for showing how Endeavor must have felt lol
Upon a rewatch it doesn’t bother me nearly as much, but still. It’s probably just because I’m so used to the manga at this point
That being said, the second the monologue started all my complaints totally melted away
The voice acting! The animation! The DANCING! They really made him clap and spin around and I LOVE IT
TINY BABY TOUYA
and on that note TINY BABY FUYUMI
Any and all nitpicks I made previously are now null and void because of that scene of Fuyumi with a flower and Touya clinging to Enji’s arm
Oh man I love this episode
Also! Confirmation that the Sekoto fire was red! I’m glad they kept it, because many people were pointing out that that was likely the main reason Enji didn’t suspect Dabi
Im curious to see how they handle the soccer flashback when we eventually get there (mostly regarding hair colour lol. I want to know if they are going to give an explanation why it was red, or if they’d gonna colour it white and pretend they didn’t mess up haha)
I don’t know how I felt about Best Jeanist starting and ending it. I knew it was coming because I read the manga and had a feeling they’d sandwich the episode like this, but it almost felt like it was taking away from Dabi’s big moment
Which ha! I guess he technically was!
Still, it reminds me of the upcoming arc, which I am reluctant to think about
I don’t know what else they could have done, I just wanted Dabi to have a moment I guess (and I also wanted to forget how many cliffhangers the upcoming arc has lol)
Ooooohhhh and the ed hurt. I had a feeling they’d do a young and old Touya thing, but MAN did they do it well. Everything about it. The bright yellows to the cold blues, the big smile to the scream, oh my gosh
Anyways, overall 10/10. If you think this review sounds nitpicky it’s because there’s only so many ways I can express my absolute joy, yet it takes time to explain my grievances (however slight they may be)
I’m away for family stuff this week but you can bet that if I weren’t I would be watching this episode on constant repeat
Guess that will have to wait for next week lol

Childhood / Quirk / Misc.
Dunno if I noted it in a HC post or anything before but since I forget shit and can't remember I wanna say when it comes to Toya, as I think is implied with all the Todoroki's, his quirk was obvious and active since he was an infant. He was around 2-3 when he began "consciously" using his quirk. He spent a lot of time with his dad - I think I have mentioned before Toya was 100% Daddy's boy, like no doubt, but honestly having a toddler that could make flames wasn't problem for either Rei or Enji given Enji's high flame resistance and Rei's ability to use her frost quirk to naturalize fire. Toya's quirk didn't always burn him, either. It didn't start burning him till he was around 5. This is also when Toya's hair started changing colour.
The two events are directly linked imo. By the time Toya was 5 he had already been "trained" a little bit by his dad so he could control his flames and increase their heat/output. Small things like that. His dad was also starting to each him "moves" at this point and Toya wanted nothing more than to learn them. But when he burnt himself for the first time things quickly changed. Toya didn't really understand anything going on because he was only a baby. He did, however, start to realize that "changes" in his family were related to his quirk and the changes in his quirk were related to his hair.
And I'm thinking about Enji asking baby Toya if he got dye in his hair after a white strand popped up and Toya saying he'd never do something like that because at the time he had a head of deep red hair, just like his dad, he had a fire quirk just like his dad, his dad looked at him with pride and hope, he was an innocent baby who had no reason to ever want to change himself, all he knew was he was happy and proud too and then his hair changed, and the more it changed the worse thing got, the less it seemed Enji wanted to do with him the more it seemed his family struggled and now we have adult Toya who hates himself and dyes his hair often, because he really can't stand it white, its full of bad memories and bad feelings, but he doesn't dye it red, he dyes it black instead, a way to completely disassociate from this pain, to change himself, even destroy himself and give himself the vague sense of "control" he couldn't have as a child.
Like, this is the reason for Dabi's black hair, imo. It actually doesn't have anything to do with him trying to disguise his true identity or anything, thats never been the intention as far as Toya dying his hair goes. So yeah, needless to say he likes his hair black. If he's walking around with his white hair be concerned ! Its a bad sign !

Could I ask about the venty shigadabi fic that's coming? Is it a continuation of the recent oneshot you wrote?
Yesss y'all can ask! It'll probably help us actually finish it. I started it a few weeks back and another alter picked it up and now I'm trying to finish it.
It's in the Paper Bag series, yeah, and like, another snippet of their relationship ig. I dunno how to summarize it besides it's basically centering around retraumatizion and Tomura taking pictures and videos of Dabi during sex without his consent. It basically sends Dabi into an episode and makes him age regress and have conditioned responses to it cause, like, fucked up enjitouya hcs, and Shig starts kinda sharing them without him wanting him to by making it his phone's lock screen as a "well, i wanted to show you off" fucked up kinda thing. Like i said before we makin them hella toxic in this but not only in a "yeah there's a clear power imbalance and abuse goin on" kinda way but also a "they're both fucked up and don't realize how fucked up this actually is" kinda way. It's definitely gonna be mostly dead dove shit with trauma bonding, domestic violence, conditioning, etc so like def might be too dark for folks who like more lighthearted shigadabi stuff, but if you're looking for toxic and unhealthy look no further
A lotta this series I'm drawing inspiration from songs, so like the series in a whole is kinda planned to match the vibe of "Paper bag" by Fiona Apple. The recent fic to the series I drew some inspiration from "Diseased" by Baby Bugs. This WIP has some "Put Me In A Movie" by Lana Del Rey vibes to it. I apologize for being cliche, but I love song fics.
