Also, do you guys ever think about the potential for Jon, yes the character from The Magnus Archives not Tumblr user Johnny Waistcoat, performing as Jonny d'Ville in his university years?

Imagine Elias getting into Martin's head to idk, put him against Jon by showing him his past, but instead of seeing him being an asshole, he stumbles into a memory of him on stage, dressed in an edgy steampunk attire that collides simultaneously with renfair fashion, singing about space pirates and dead gods. The slow burn would've lasted from the start to the end of Our Boy Jack, just those two minutes I'm telling you.

OKAYSO im trying to get into the mechanisms specifically death to the mechanisms im barely following anything going on but i fuckibg love johnny d'ville .he killed his dad

im never shutting up about how Johnny D'ville from The Mechanisms is the same person as Jonathan Sims from TMA. and i have three very stupid storylines as to how they are

1 - Jonathan Sims, head archivist of the Magnus Institute, leaves the institute in a fit of terrified rage after the Corruption attacked the institute, leading to a seething hatred for archivists. he changes his name and leaves the planet. shenanigans ensue. (shoutout to my friend for this one)

2 - the band The Mechanisms exists within the universe of TMA, and Jon was part of it, and after they disbanded, Jon started working for the Magnus Institute and has never spoken of his part in the band because it's borderline embarrassing now

3 - after the events of Death to the Mechanisms, D'ville decides to suck it up and goes to try to live a normal-ish life on a planet with seemingly no problems. he changes his name to Jonathan Sims and slowly forgets who he once was, becoming an employee at the Magnus Institute. shenanigans ensue

I like to imagine that Johnny isn't in the jail cell during Lyf's visit to the jail cell in the Bifrost Incident because he was either in solitary confinement or someone killed him (again) both are because they got tired of him.

Headcannon: Johnny D'Ville never ever understands why Nastya left. He spends a lot of time committing random violence and petty vandalism near That One Airlock, and would probably be surprised if you asked him what he was doing and why.

You know there are quite a few fics where Martin is a Mechs fan and doesn't pick up that Jon=Johnny D'Ville. Are there any where he does?

Like maybe at first it's idly noting the similar build+accent but being like 'nah that's unlikely' and then one day Jon growls irritatedly or yells with all the ability of someone who definitely knows how to project and it all clicks.

Martin probably still says nothing but it's an interesting thought.
