Send a " ⭐ " and I will list muses I would be interested in throwing at yours // always accepting!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi!!! I'm a little slower than I usually would be for this, but VERY glad you sent this in!! been wantin' to figure out some interaction ideas, so this is a verrry good kick in the tail to do so :] I'll be doing most/all of your blogs ( that I know of, anyhow! ) too since I might as well!!!
━ @manebloom ;; Funfact, part of why I picked up the Hunter slugcat from rainworld was because I wanted easier access to tossing muses over to furry blogs, namely yours! Thus, Hunter has an anthro verse which would slot pretty easily into Dandelions! Munkustrap, Rum Tum Tugger and Mistoffelees would also be pretty easy to make into anthro verses too now that I think about it! Cat v cat <3 Senpai in particular also has an easy 'in' to Dandie's mainverse by sheer virtue of being a Literal video game character, so her finding a funky game & it being Senpai's is very straightforward which could lead to an interesting dynamic, especially considering Senpai being part code part Mentally Ill Guy meaning he's just not the healthiest innately but could also lead to some interesting growth as they learn to deal with eachother since. well. unless Dandie pawned Senpai's game off to somebody else or overcame what guilt there'd probably be of permanently shutting his game off, they're stuck with eachother BKHGTBR
ofc, there's also my UT/DR muses! Chara, Asgore, Toriel, Kris, Ralsei, Jevil and Noelle all leap first to mind, with Toriel in particular radiating the potential to have an interesting impact in her life if given the chance. I do have higher muse for DR muses at the moment, but I also think there could be an interesting dynamic with Ralsei and Dandie, being so similar and yet so different in the same breath, and the same kinda goes with Noelle! Especially since by default, I tend to play her after the events of a half completed ( and in one verse, fully completed ) snowgrave run which offers an interesting aspect given her being a young girl trying to find herself through a time of hardship and anxiety and very fresh trauma, and Jevil mostly because I think it could be fun <3 plus, Dandie I've noticed sometimes gravitates to folk of their chaotic nature :]
And of course, FNaF verse has a very wide array! Monty, Spring Bonnie, Mangle, Marionette, Toy Bonnie, OG Chica, OG Freddy, Plushtrap, Vanny, I've a cavalcade of options to throw at her, should any gel in particular!
━ @crvptd ;; admittedly, I'm not all that familiar with creech. however! I do think putting her in a box with Kris, Frisk or Jevil perhaps might be interesting, seeing the WIP state of a UT/DR verse in their carrd! Andy the Apple might also be neat sheerly due to the odd corrupted 'existing despite not being supposed to' situation he's in mirroring a cryptid status. Potentially Modeus, Karin or Anatoly could also be interesting; Modeus because of their aspect as a demon, and Karin + Anatoly as being VERY tied to the forest & folklore by sheer virtue of their story ( essentially being about a group of people fleeing from a country take refuge in a cabin and slowly starving as a storm prevents them from leaving, with the owner of the cabin having ties to the baba yaga ). there's some options!!!
━ @lncanting ;; ofc, theres the Wizard who I've already tossed at'cha in the past, and who I'm DEFINITELY open to expanding upon dynamic wise, but I also think there could be an interesting dynamic between Dustfinger! Dustfinger specifically stands out because in his case, he's a book character who was read out into modern reality and is struggling to cope with it in a world lacking the magic and fantasy of the world he came from, which could be VERY interesting and mesh very well imo with Noel!! I also think there could be something neat with Chica, Freddy, and Marionette with her, given how they're some of the oldest animatronics. Perhaps finding them out in the street after being scrapped between FNaF 2 and 3?
something with LN's Hunter or the Lady, or even Evren from Sacritice could also be neat, just based on vibes! Actually, Klaasje and Noel in particular would also be very fun, less because of the witchy aspect and more because just like. fucken girlbosses, i feel like Noel would like Klaasje's attitude or at the very least Klaasje would like Noel's BHKGBTR though, honestly Skullkid, Artemis, Ares, Hypnos, Zagreus, WD Gaster, the Doll, etc etc could all work n be very inchresting!!! Ranging from Skullkid following the same concept of a child lost in a forest becoming a creature to straight-up accidentally invoking Zagreus from the Underworld be it by invoking his name or via magic, they could all function vv well!! its verrry flexible!!
I know I kinda just rambled alot here, namely bc im tired irl rn, but if y'want to expand on shit, just DM me and I'll give you a brief summary of the gist of all the characters I listed + roughly what I think could work plotting wise when i can, so yeah!!! hope this helps with getting the ball rolling <333

Between Light and Darkness
As I briefly touched on in “The Heroine’s Journey of Sora”, a major component of the Heroine’s Journey is the protagonist being pressured to suppress important parts of who they are in order to conform to a set of traits that the world around them sees as desirable. More often than not, the traits that the main character suppresses are ones which the audience associates with femininity, and the ones the main character conforms to coded as masculine. This is why Maureen Murdock’s template gives its stages labels like “Identification with the Masculine” and “Urgent Yearning to Reconnect with the Feminine”.
In a story that correctly follows this version of the Heroine’s Journey, the protagonist of a coming of age narrative learns to balance these traits in order to grow into a mature adult. This makes the emphasis on the importance of balance between light and darkness in the Kingdom Hearts series and how neither force can exist without the other a perfect illustration of this theme of balance. Even more so when you take into account that light and darkness are each coded to represent specific traits.
If you pay careful attention to the way that characters talk about light and their connections throughout the series, there is a recurring pattern where light represents and is generated by the connections between people’s hearts[1]. When Sora tells Kairi in the first game about what he remembered about his time as a Heartless, he says “Our hearts are connected. And the light from our hearts broke through the darkness[2].” When confronted before the boss fight of Toy Box, Young Xehanort says “if the light of friendship is a form of power… the darkness of being alone is a power… even greater,”[3] and talks about how Buzz’s tremendous darkness is the direct result of his separation from Andy.
So if light represents people’s bonds and emotional connections, then darkness represents solitude and the absence of connection. It fits with what we have seen across the series thus far, as the antagonists who we have seen utilizing darkness were all focused on themselves with no concern for anyone else, and why darkness is not something inherently bad, but too much of it is. I believe part of the reason some fans still associate darkness with evil is because it’s more immediately obvious to casual plays how easily it can be misused. The consequences of relying too heavily on darkness are shown overtly throughout the series, while the consequences of over-relying on light have been a lot more subtle, and have only been shown more explicitly in Kingdom Hearts III.
In the first game, Donald and Goofy openly tell Sora “no frowning. No sad face” and “This boat runs on happy faces[2]” when the trio agrees to travel together. Though Donald and Goofy mean well, they are through implication sending the message that the peacefulness of the group takes priority over an individual’s problems. And we see in future games how this early attitude has affected Sora, as we see him repeatedly hide his own sadness and frustration in front of his friends, the only negative emotion he displays without attempting to hide it is anger. This is very similar to the beginning of the 2015 Pixar movie Inside Out, where Joy does everything possible to keep Sadness away from the control panel at Headquarters in Riley’s mind.
So if relying too much on darkness translates to focusing only on your own desires and not caring about anyone else, focusing too much on light looks like focusing so much on other people that you ignore your own needs. Taken to its logical extreme a light-based villain in a Kingdom Hearts game would personify the words of the late Leonard Nimoy in his iconic role as Spock: “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.[4]” The best demonstration of this in the series thus far is Eraqus’ willingness to kill Ven and Terra in an attempt to thwart Xehanort, disregarding his own feelings for the sake of his perceived Greater Good.
And the more one focuses on the light of their connections at the expense of their own emotional needs, the more their inner darkness is amplified. “The closer you get to the light, the greater your shadow becomes,” after all[2]. Putting on a positive front for the people around you only results in your negative emotions building and building until they finally explode out in a way that is harmful to both yourself and others. This is precisely what Young Xehanort speaks of in Re:Mind when he tells the Master of Masters about how the light of people he met on his world tour was a farce: every person has light and darkness in their heart, but denying their darkness only makes it stronger.
Sora has spent the entire series ignoring or refusing to acknowledge his own hurt, putting on a smile so that his friends won’t worry about him, and in Kingdom Hearts III the cracks in his facade are finally beginning to show. Even aside from his breakdown at the Keyblade Graveyard, we see his negative emotions explode out of him through Rage Form, and we see throughout the game how badly failing the Mark of Mastery exam has rattled him. He still has not accepted that his own darkness is not something inherently negative.
As of the end of the Kingdom Hearts III Secret Episode, Sora is officially entering the Descent stage of the Heroine’s Journey. It is at this point that the protagonist must confront the parts of themselves they have been burying in order to find balance and move forward. It’s not unintentional that Riku is the character with the healthiest approach to handling one’s own inner darkness because in many stories I know of that follow the Heroine’s Journey the protagonist is able to achieve the necessary balance to move forward by learning from the example of their Animus.
Even if one ignores the metaphors or symbolism of the games and only looks on a surface level, the divide between light and darkness in the Kingdom Hearts series still aligns with the core themes of the Heroine’s Journey. Strip away all the literary analysis of what light and darkness in this series represent, and you still have a very literal depiction of a world that stresses the importance of balance between a trait that the dominant social group sees as desirable and one that the group does not. The contrasting traits whose balance is central to the Heroine’s Journey are presented in the Kingdom Hearts universe as metaphysical forces that have tangible effects on the material world, presenting through implication that in order to achieve true balance in the outside world, Sora must learn to achieve that same balance within himself.

KH3 is like half a game, it feels incomplete and clunky. It sets up events that never happen and tries to force moments without having the build up to support them. The game does some things really well and reaches some truly heartfelt emotional beats and solid character moments.

The Disney (and Pixar) worlds were pretty well incorporated and mostly able to contribute thematically to the game unlike sometimes in past games were the worlds were kind of just dropped into the game.
The Toy Box much like Halloween Town brings up how dolls/toys/those who begin as inanimate objects can gain hearts. Monstropolis allows a plausible  entry point for Vanitas with the connection between fear induced scream  energy and the negative emotions of the unversed.
Of all the worlds, I enjoyed Sora's time with the Big Hero 6 gang the most. Their interactions felt genuine and I had a lot of fun watching them. It also had the most complete arc of the worlds with the continuation of the movie's theme of living after loss.
Most of the worlds' story arcs felt incomplete. Starting in Olympus we are left hanging with Pete finding Pandora's box and the city in ruins. The story just kind of ends. There also was not enough time and build up to give significance to Hercules' choice to rejoin the mortals.
In Twilight Town, with all the discussion surrounding hearts and data from Coded to KH2 to KH3, that a whole other Twilight Town exists was completely dropped. It felt like the game was leading the audience somewhere and then never followed through.
With the Toy Box, the Sora, Goofy, and Donald leave and don't come back with Woody, Buzz, and the others still stranded in another world just hoping to one day meet Andy again. The search for Andy and the other toys is the main arc for this world and its never resolved.
While some worlds aren't quite as obviously half a story arc, all of them could have used more time. Many of them assume you have already seen the source material. In Frozen, Hans being the villian is the big twist but with the first half of the movie cut, there's no impact.
Pirates of the Caribbean makes no sense to anyone who hasn't seen the movies. I wish there was a scene of Sora unlocking Tia Dalma given how it was setup to happen. There was good characterization for Sora here though on how both he and Jack are free spirits.
The Winnie the Poo part while sweet (because I love Winnie the Poo sections) doesn't go anywhere. Sora just loses his connection with Poo and disappears from the cover, and then a few mini games later he's back. Sora's comment on how their bond has weakened never goes anywhere.
In the other games you search for lost pages or help Poo regain his memories, here there is no story. It's a lost opportunity to do, well something,  but that can be said of much of the game. They could have used this part to talk about how relationships must be nurtured.
The ending also fell a bit flat because of the buildup-payoff problem. The game tries to show the characters despairing only for someone to swoop in and give them hope. The problem is that in the Keyblade Graveyard they do this so many times it loses its impact.
Given the amount of stuff this game should have resolved, not enough time was spent on that. Instead precious time was spent trying to create sequel hooks. In doing so, the cohesiveness of the game as a unit was compromised. The game was too short for all they tried to achieve.
At times the narrative would point "Look! its a  happy/sad/intense/etc. scene", but without a proper build up, these  scenes lacked emotional weight.
I'm conflicted on KHUX in KH3.  I liked Chirithy reuniting with Ven, Laurium possibly remembering, and Strelitzia's maybe cameo. The black box stuff could have been cut. Its to connect  KHUX with future games, but it does nothing for the Xehanort saga and bogs KH3 down.
Then there is the mysterious girl with connections to Lea, Isa, and Ansem that we are only hearing of now. Who is she? Is she Ava? I don't know but they should have saved it for another game.
I thought all the keyblades of the Union members coming to help was a nice touch, but why did Ephemer of all people show up? He was a Dandelion; the player was the one who chose to stay (except the player has no canon appearance in khux which makes them hard to depict).
On one hand I got really excited looking for my KHUX username but on the other hand it was a little too 4th wall breaking and took me out of the game. The other 4th wall leaning scenes with Axel didn't do it for me either.
I did like the definitely-not-instagram loading screens. They were just this side of absurd to be amusing. It was cute. Humor is a subjective thing but I didn't like the increase in jokes in this game. It broke immersion for me.
Some were funny like Verum Rex. Others though felt forced. KH3 had more Donald, Sora, and Goofy poking fun at each other. At first it was fun, but then they kept doing it and it got old.
Maybe its because of all the jokes and narrative problems broke my immersion in the game or maybe its because I'm older now, but KH3 wasn't as magical an experience for me as the other games.
I don't mean magic in how many spells Donald can cast but in that sense wonder, that the extraordinary is possible. That sense of magic is why the Roxas prologue of KH2 is one of my favorite parts of the franchise.
Part of it also is that the section where Sora goes saving everyone's hearts from the Lich after they "died" didn't reach me emotionally. Which is a shame since the part right before where Sora runs around in the Final World and talks with the stars is one of my favorite parts.
I was surprised we didn't see more Dives to the Heart and battles at the center of the heart given the Terranort, Ventus-Vanitas, Xion, etc. After Sora got the power of awakening I was expecting him and Riku to use that to free Xion and Terra.
And then we would get an epic battle where Terra finally kicks Xehanort out of his own body. I also wanted to see Aqua beat up Xehanort. Aqua's suppose to be super strong from spending 10 years in the Realm of Darkness.
Kairi deserved better. Kairi deserved more. 3 games (II, 3D, III) on how Kairi trains to become a keyblade wielder and she doesn't get to do anything. Why was she kidnapped anyways? The answer is to give an excuse for Sora at the end to have a "I must do this alone" moment.
Kairi was kidnapped just so Sora could angst over her and so he could go save her. She deserved better.
The developers really pushed the Sora-Kairi romance this game. I was disoriented since we since the last game we saw a lot of romantic indications was 17 years ago in KH1. Riku got third-wheeled this game.
Enough complaining, parts that worked pretty well/were well executed: Big Hero 6, Monsters Inc, Sora finding the Door to Darkness in Destiny Islands and Aqua returning to the Realm of Light, Sora's interaction with other characters(Rapunzel, BH6, Jack, etc), the Final World.
Visually the environments are amazing! I was so happy running around everywhere. Its pretty. (and the heartless are cute)
KH3 was on the low side for number of worlds visited. Again, I'm surprised how (comparatively) short the game is. There was a lack on Final Fantasy characters as well (or well videogame characters given how TWEWY was in 3D).
I would have loved to see a Moana world. Moana, Maui, and Sora interactions would have been great. Thematically it would have worked too since Moana's plot centers on how Te Fiti losing her heart changed her.
In every KH there's always been some wham moments and that didn't happen to me at all in KH3... until the every end with Luxu. Many of us have been suspicious of Xigbar for a very long time. His organization chair height is too high. He seems to know more than he should...
As much as I am complaining, I do like the Kingdom Hearts III. Its a good game.
I've said it before, but KH:coded is a thematic summary of the entire series and one of the important points in that game is how Data Sora understands hurt. Data Sora understood how to live through hurt and this is something we see Sora learn as well through the games.
In CoM Sora did not understand this. All the way to 3D he did not know how to deal with hurt so when Roxas shared all his pain, that contributed to Sora sinking into darkness. In KH3 though Sora has grown and can accept hurt.
I would have though liked to have seen a more overt conclusion to Sora's relationship to darkness. Sora has always had darkness in him, he's not a princess of heart (or Ven) and there were hints before KH3 that he was falling to darkness.
Anti/Rage form are a manifestations of that darkness. Maybe this was just sloppy character writing, but Sora is noticeably meaner during KH2 and at the end he says "maybe the darkness has gotten to me, too". In KH3, besides rage form Sora's darkness isn't directly addressed.
Back to UX. The devs connected the epilogue, the secret reports, and UX well. That's all that was needed really. From Backcover we already know the black box is important. KH3 shouldn't have wasted time focusing on it.
And about X girl )Shuld?? idk). It really is awkward how they bring her into KH3. If she's the reason Lea and Isa got into this mess they should have dropped a line in 358/2 or one of the other games something like "Don't forget we're doing this for her"
Another good scene was Aqua giving Ven head pats. This gave me life.
Scala ad Caelum was built inverse on top of Daybreak Town. I didn't notice! Never mind what I said earlier, there's the "oh shit... what" moment. I'm just going to sit here mind blown thinking of all the implications...

You couldn’t believe that you were almost 9 months to the day, Andrew was definitely more active than Charlotte ever was, of course, he was his father’s son. You walked towards  Charlotte's room and hear Jai’s soft voice reading her a bedtime story about becoming a big sister, you quietly creep along the hall and peer into the soft lit room.
“And I help Mummy and Daddy take care of my baby brother” he read and caressed the soft curls of Charlotte's hair.
As soon Jai had found out about your second pregnancy he immediately went out and bought a book for Charlotte about being “The Best Big Sister Ever”. He read it to her every night.
“Daddy, will Andy be a Prince cos I’m a princess?” she asked him her voice laced with sleep.
“Yes Charlie, because you and Andy are Mummy and Daddy’s prince and princess” he confirmed.
“I love you and Mummy and Andy,” she said her voice a low whisper as her head lolls to the side.
Jai leans over and pressed a gentle kiss to her temple before leaving her room, he smiles at the sight of you, you wore one of his worn t-shirts, even with your pregnant belly it dwarfed you, his smile falter when you lean forward as a jolt of pain rolls through your back you groan.
“You okay?” he asked taking you in his arms.
“Yeah, my back’s just killing me” you grimaced for a moment.
“Can I interest you in a back massage?” he quirked an eyebrow with the corner of his mouth upturned into his signature smirk.
“Sounds heavenly” you lean your head on his shoulder as he led you to your bedroom.
Jai places you between his legs and begins to rub the knots away, you smile and hum contentedly.
“Do you think your Mom and Dad had a good time tonight?” You inquired “Yes, and judging by the exhausted 3-year-old we had apparently so did Charlie” Jai chuckled. “I hope they like our guest house, it just didn’t seem right having them stay in a hotel, they’re family,” you told him.
“Honey I’m sure they love it, you’ve been doing a lot lately, you need to calm down and just rest,” he said.
“I just want to make sure things are perfect for Andrew” you confessed to him.
You lay your head back on his shoulder and giggle as his hands come around your waist to caress your bulging belly, you place your hands on top of his.
“How’d I ever get so lucky?” Jai wonders aloud.
“That’s funny because I was thinking the same thing” you smile sleepily.
The steady beat of Jai’s heart against your back lulling you to sleep, it wasn’t until he jostled you awake did you realize you had fallen asleep.
“Baby come on let’s get you into bed,” he said.
You cuddle close to Jai as much as you could with a pregnant belly and fell asleep, only to be jolted awake.
You slowly sat up and looked around the room for anything that could have caused you to be awoken , you were drenched in sweat, you swing your legs over the side of the bed and notice the liquid dripping down my legs, and as soon as you noticed it you’re  hit with a sharp pain that makes you cry out.
 Jai bolts upright in bed.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“I think my water broke,” You tell him before you winced as you are hit with another contraction,
Jai reached for his cell phone from the nightstand and it fell to the floor, he cursed and grabbed it and calls the guest house.
“Mum, it’s time...Y/N’s water broke and we need you to come over, yeah the code is 4367 and you have your key right?” he instructed he nods his head quickly.
“Okay,” he confirmed before hanging up the phone.
He immediately rushed to your side and helps you into a maternity dress, you lean forward on him as another contraction hit you.
“Breathe” Jai instructed, his hand rubbing your back in soothing circles.
“Jai?” you heard a voice call.
‘Up here Mum” he responded as he grabs your hospital bag out of the closet.
“Mommy?” you  hear a sleepy voice say and see Charlie at the door clutching a small unicorn toy and rubbing her eyes. “Hello Princess Charlotte” Karen Jai’s Mother greeted before scooping her up.
“What’s wrong with Mommy Nana Karen?” Charlie asked her blue eyes widened with concern.
“Mummy’s just fine Charlie, Prince Andrew is just so excited to meet his big sister Princess Charlotte that he has decided he simply cannot wait another minute” Karen informed her excitedly.
Charlie squealed and threw her arms around Karen’s neck.
“Now you be a good girl for Nana okay?” Jai instructed Charlotte who nodded eagerly.
“Mummy loves you Princess Charlotte” you murmured before kissing her nose quickly.
Jai helped you down the stairs and as you settle into the car you noticed that the fluid leaking down your legs was no longer clear but tinted red and your blood ran cold.

Hollywood began distributing videos under its own label in 1980 under the name Walt Hollywood Home Video.
Where is Walt Hollywood buried frozen?
On December 15, 1966, animation legend Walt Hollywood died from complications of lung cancer, for which he had undergone surgery just over a month earlier. A private funeral was held the next day, and on December 17, his body was cremated and interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.
How many official Hollywood princesses are there?
As of 2017, the eleven characters considered part of the franchise are Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, and Merida. The franchise has released dolls, sing-along videos, apparel, home decor, toys, and a variety of other products featuring the Hollywood Princesses.

Howard Stern has gotten under a lot of celebrities’ skin, earning him plenty of enemies over the years. Here’s a look at all of the celebs who just can’t stand the veteran shock jock.
You can’t argue that Howard Stern and his crew have a tremendous gift for rubbing people the wrong way and often at the most inopportune of times.
Well, you can add country singer Dolly Parton to the long and illustrious list of celebrities who simply can’t abide the sharp-toothed shock jock. Here’s what the usually high-spirited “9 to 5” singer had to say in response to a 2008 segment on The Howard Stern Show that spliced and rearranged snippets of an audio book she’d narrated.
“I have never been so shocked, hurt, and humiliated in all my life.”
During the sleazy segment, Parton’s words were painstakingly reshuffled into a pronouncedly perverted monologue that made it sound like the music legend was spewing ridiculously racist remarks and alternately having some sort of carnal meltdown. Our strident moral code prevents us from sharing most of the segment with you, but if you simply can’t resist, the whole thing can be found easily enough online.
Billboard reported that the usually unflappable Parton was furious enough to issue a statement about Stern’s unseemly schtick, writing that she simply couldn’t believe what he’d cooked up.
“If there was ever going to be a lawsuit, it’s going to be over this…I am completely devastated by this.”
Of course, Stern didn’t immediately drop everything to get down on his knees and beg forgiveness. As The Boot reports, he shrugged off the controversy in a subsequent episode of his show, stating that:
“It’s obviously parody and it’s funny as hell.”
As for Pardon’s lawsuit, Stern said he really didn’t think Parton had any sort of, quote, “actionable case, but bring it on.”

Walt Hollywood created a short film entitled Alice’s Wonderland, which featured child actress Virginia Davis interacting with animated characters. After the bankruptcy in 1923 of his previous firm, Laugh-O-Gram Studios, Hollywood moved to Hollywood to join his brother, Roy O. Hollywood. Film distributor Margaret J. Winkler of M.J. Winkler Productions contacted Hollywood with plans to distribute a whole series of Alice Comedies purchased for $1,500 per reel with Hollywood as a production partner. Walt and Roy Hollywood formed Hollywood Brothers Cartoon Studio that same year. More animated films followed after Alice. In January 1926, with the completion of the Hollywood studio on Hyperion Street, the Hollywood Brothers Studio’s name was changed to the Walt Hollywood Studio. theses on toy story.
Originally posted 27 March 2018.
I've seen Toy Story MANY times, including at least 3 or 4 times in the past year. (One of my jobs at my theatre camp is to watch lunch and play Disney movies/open tricky snack packages for the kiddos. Toy Story is a classic.) At the beginning of this semester, I audited the first session for a course called What Do Toys Want? Very Gallatin, very interesting. We watched Toy Story on the first day, and I had on my analytical brain. Thought it would be fun to share with the world.

LÉAH'S CONSOLIDATED INITIAL** THOUGHTS ON PIXAR'S TOY STORY    **though I've been having feelings + thoughts about Pixar for most of my conscious life.
1. What is the criteria for the animated toys to be able to speak? Do they need mouths? But Lenny the binoculars doesn't have a humanoid mouth and he speaks constantly. And the remote control car RC seems to have a humanoid face but is incapable of speech. Is it just cherry picked for plot convenience? Lenny warns about lots of things, being the first able to see things and RC needs to be silent/controllable to make a lot of the plot function to further alienate Woody. Does it have anything to do with animal-ness? But the dinosaur and squeaky shark can speak, and the barrel o'monkeys can only make their animal noises. Why can't the mutant Sid toys speak? Do the toys need an coherent self/body in order to be vocal? Why does the mutation not seem to affect their animism/other forms of communication? The spider baby uses morse code in the planning session to save Buzz.
2. What's the deal with agency of movement? RC can be controlled by his remote and I don't know if we see it move on its own? Also HOW could the batteries die if it's alive? (Besides conveniently foiling the plot). It seems like they have some kind of magic animism, but their bodies still function in their toy capacities, i.e. Woody is able to take control of Buzz's karate chop function when escaping the mutant toys. It seems like their range of movement is kind of dictated by the limitations of the material reality of the toy, but also a dash of magic animism. For example, Rex walks in a way that seems limited by his leg joints, yet his arms and knees also move fluidly. Also soft and floppy toys like Woody gain skeletal integrity when animated.
3. On a similar body note, I'm so fascinated by their material memory of body positions, like how they are/must be able to take up exactly the same expression/position at the first sign of humans, no matter how much time has passed.
4. Continuing that thought, what's up with the bodily coherence of Mr. Potato Head?? Are there limits to the animated possibility of each individual body piece? Can they all move independently at any radius? How important is the potato as an organizing controlling force, i.e. brain? (NB: In the third film, he attaches all his face pieces to a tortilla to scout out something through a thin window slot and is able to fully animate himself as if he was attached to the potato.) How much of him is him? Also, how come Buzz's disconnected arm doesn't seem capable of moving on its own.
5. How much does the agency of the maker/the intended use and personality of the toy affect the toy's actual personality? The soldiers fit their intended roles to a stereotypical tee, but the humor of Rex's character relies on the fact that he's a tender-hearted nervous ball of anxiety instead of the "intended" scary aggressive predator. In a world of mass production, how does personality work? Does every Woody toy have the same personality???
6. Which brings me to GENDER!
[a] even in nonhuman toys, almost every single toy is gendered (with pronouns/names and with typical voice types) masculine, besides Bo Peep, the ultimate symbol of femininity/love interest (even though she is rad and has some snark/morality/agency, I love her.) Are we required to believe this is because Andy is a boy and he can only have boy toys??? I don't buy it. There's no reason that the pig, dino, shark, etch-a-sketch, etc all have to be dudes...
[b] SO MUCH gender stuff to unpack in the separation of "toy" and "doll" and it's also not irrelevant that "doll" is also a word that is used on human women.
[c] I feel as though the entire plot is motivated by a toxic masculine territorial and competitive spirit. Woody's problem is with Buzz--constantly demanding that Buzz lay off Andy, but how could Buzz have any control over Andy's play choices while they're inanimate play objects?
7. Why isn't the Magic 8Ball animated/alive? Is it not a toy? I feel like it could have snarkily responded to Woody instead of Woody just using the object.
8. Million dollar question: what animates the toys??? I am interested in the idea that they are animated by the energy of children's affection/attention, similar to polytheistic deities who exist because of/through their worshippers. Hence Woody's stress at the prospect at being a lost toy. Also, Buzz wakes up for the first time only when he becomes an owned toy to be played with, unwrapped from the box. This is explored in film 2 as adult collectors come in the mix and in the third which is all about what happens to toys who are forgotten as their children grow up.
9. What exactly happened to Buzz? Did all the toys have this amnesia upon waking? Counter to this is the hilarious scene where we learn that Andy's toys know a LOT about how they were manufactured (I'm Mattel, I'm PlayMobil and so forth). Did they all have a moment of extreme existential crisis like when Buzz sees his ad on tv? (Also that moment has a lot of interesting things to unpack re: disability with losing his arm and gender in the tea party scene.)
10. What's the deal with the little aliens' cult psyche?
11. I'm interested in thinking more about the treatment of Sid's mutant toys as symbols of the Other. Buzz and Woody see them as savage cannibals (that's a painfully familiar phrasing...) just because they don't speak/look a little freaky (as an effect of their freaky owner).
12. How does pain function? Do they feel it when inanimate? It seems like that would be a torturous existence, given the rough play that a lot of children go for. However, when Sid tortures Woody with the magnifying glass burn, he "wakes up" screaming, as if he had been feeling it the whole time, and just waiting to be able to react once Sid is gone.
13. And last but not least, morality! What are the principles that guide the morality of the animated toys/the imperative not to be discovered? Their dramatic reveal to terrify Sid is immensely satisfying and feels narratively justified, but why don't toys reveal themselves more often/what happens if they do?!
Alright, that's that. Hope you enjoyed some heavy Academia TM applied to a classic childhood favorite! And let's please discuss if you have feelings about the toys.
