Silent Affection
Sanji x f!reader drabble
Summary: Sanji is Sanji and it’s not unusual to witness his displays of affection. However, you never seemed to pay attention to the silent displays of affection that are reserved solely for you. Typical Sanji nicknames and f!reader.

It was natural in an almost startling way.
Sanji was a man that showed his affection for those around him loud and proud. He would dote on you, Nami, and Robin around the clock. Any of your compliments of his food would turn him into the physical embodiment of heart eyes. None of you would ever go without.
But aside from all of the showmanship, there was a silent affection that was reserved for only you.
In the way that he always managed to hand you your sun glasses on a particular bright day, when you’re squinting uncomfortably and attempting to shield your eyes. No words passed between you or call to attention. Just the simple act of noticing.
It was in the chore rotation. How any time you were assigned your least favorite task, Sanji suddenly had the free time to get to it before you. It didn’t matter how many times you protested this, because often times this meant you aided him in his own chores and the man would do anything for that extra time to spend with you.
And above all else, it was the extra sprinkling of oregano in your pasta sauce. The day your nose crinkled when Sanji asked for you to taste test for him, announcing the sauce needed some oregano, he was instantly sent back to the Baratie. Of course, Sanji couldn’t stop himself from uttering the phrase “oregano is for savages”, just as he had so many times to Zeff. He didn’t have it in him to throw the ingredient into the whole pot, but he found himself adding the ingredient to your plate alone.
But all of these acts seemed to fall on deaf ears. You didn’t acknowledge them, for the most part, as this was just Sanji. Despite being reserved solely for you and you alone. You never seemed to notice.
When the Sunny docks onto an island, much to everyone’s relief, the crew is more than ready to head out and explore. Groceries are the number one priority with a captain that could consume the entire ocean three times over. But, groceries are not Nami’s main concern as she is dragging you and Robin away from the group and to a couple of shops nearby.
You spend your day split between a dress up doll and personal hype woman for the navigator. When Nami deems herself done and the shop keepers are all seething in rage at her lack of purchases, you meet your crew outside of a restaurant. Luffy had decided your chef needed a break and, after hearing a local rave about the marinated meat that was a local delicacy, he was more than excited.
Your waiter is an older man that regards your group with immediate distaste and huffs off when Luffy orders one of everything.
When the man returns with a tray of drinks, he places the glass of ice directly in front of you, a lemon wedge on the edge of the glass. Your nose crinkles at the sight. Sanji, caught up in a conversation with Nami about the grocery bill, doesn’t even seem to realize as he plucks the lemon off of your glass to drop it in his own water. After all, your chef knew of your distaste for lemon in your water.
And you simply shrug it off, because he is Sanji after all.
Before the food arrives, Nami requests you follow her to the bathroom, a silent plea in the room full of unfamiliar faces. You follow her with little protest.
Upon returning to the table, plates litter the surface and your food is presented at your seat. You notice Ussop’s eyes lingering on you for a beat too long as you settle down. An arm swoops in at your side before you can question it and a small ramekin of sauce is placed next to your plate. You cast a confused look to the waiter but he is already off.
“Sanji asked for it for you.” Ussop answers your silent question, his brows raising. “And he did that.” He nods towards the raw circles of onion placed on the edge of Sanji’s plate. The raw onions you specifically had asked to not come with your meal.
“Oh.” Is all you can mumble out.
“Oh.” Ussop mocks you with the roll of his eyes. “You should be used to this, ya know.”
Your brows pull together, “What do you mean?”
A smirk pulls to his lips, “So you really are just dense?”
“Says you.” You scoff defensively. At your weak retaliation, Ussop drops the issues and focuses on defending his own plate from Luffy’s hungry gaze. Your eyes drop to your plate as the words ring in your mind. “You should be used to this.”
The meal is good, the marinated meat just as lush as described, but you couldn’t seem to focus on your plate. Sanji’s knee knocks against yours under the table and you are quick to meet his eye.
“Everything okay, darling?” He prompts, lifting his drink to take a sip as his eyes level at you. You can only focus on the extra lemon swirling in his cup.
You clear your throat, “Yeah, i’m fine.”
“Enjoying your meal?” He asks further.
“ ‘S good.” You nod slowly. Your next words leave you before you can even process them, “But i’m almost certain you could do better.” And you begin to wonder just how long you have spoken so freely to Sanji without any thought.
A bright smile pulls to his lips and heat rushes color to his cheeks. “Thank you, mon amor.” He hums in thought. “The marinade is quite good, I believe I could recreate it if i tried hard enough.” That was the thing about your chef, he was excellent at dissecting a meal and recreating it to be a thousand times better. “And I could easily make it more to your taste.” He bumps your knee again with a smile and you find yourself leaning into that touch, much to his surprise.
Your knee rests against Sanji’s as you turn back to your plate- which looks suspiciously lacking from when you last focused on it. Across the table, Luffy chews with a goofy grin on his face.
Yet, you cannot bring yourself to care. Your thoughts rush in your mind as you attempt to piece together just when this all started. When it stopped just being Sanji.

It’s Okay to Cry…
Sanji x reader, Ace x reader drabble
Summary: Sometimes we all need a shoulder to cry on and a little reminder that it’s okay to cry. Written with f!reader in mind, Ace says “yes ma’am” but i believe that’s the only gendered thing.

Sanji
The cook of the thousand sunny was notorious for doting on other. Always there to serve or lend a helping hand. Sanji was a gentleman above all else, a nice guy who cared for his crew, and there would never be anything to stop him from aiding those in need. Though, sometimes this made others forget that he was in need sometimes too. That sometimes his daily chores take a little bit longer than normal or he needs a late night tea more often than not.
Sanji would never blame his crew for this. He would take it in stride and work through his own emotions within the safety of his own kitchen.
And that’s where you found him.
You could make out the form of Sanji, his back turned to you as he leans over the sink. His sleeves were still rolled to his elbows and the dishes still placed on the drying rack. Yet Sanji stands unmoving, unwavering, even as the cigarette held in his fingers began to burn to the filter.
“Sanji?” You call out to him and his shoulders bristle. He takes his time turning around, rubbing at his eyes for a long moment, before finally turning. Hair falls in his eyes more than usual to nearly block out his view entirely.
“Hi darling, is everything okay?” A tiny smile tugs at the corner of his lips. “Can you not sleep? I can make you some tea and maybe a-“
“Sanji.” You quickly interrupt, stepping further in the kitchen to approach him. You walk closer and closer until you are standing right before him.
His breath catches in his throat and he swallows hard. “Maybe a glass of water-“ He chokes on his own words as you hesitantly raise your hands to cup his cheeks. Sanji reaches a hand back to grip the sink. Stepping even closer so there was barely a gap between you, you trace a finger along his cheekbone and up to sweep the hair away from his eyes. You brush his bangs back to reveal both of his curly brows, smoothing your thumb over the line in his forehead, and forcing him to finally meet your eyes.
His eyes were bloodshot, the deep blue shining even brighter with the tears brimming in them. You had always believed the man to have the most beautiful eyes that you have ever seen. As deep and blue as the ocean. Your own all blue to gaze at in wonder. It was even more evident as he pointedly tries to avoid your eye.
“Sanji, honey, what’s going on?” The man nearly crumbles as the affectionate name falls from your lips. His bottom lip quivers and the tears begin to glaze over his eyes. “Ji, come here.” You guide him to rest his face into your neck, pushing your fingers into golden locks, and placing a delicate kiss to the side of his head.
And that finally did it.
Sanji clings to your form as he presses his nose into your skin. You can feel warm tears fall against your skin, his body beginning to shake, before a sob pushes past his lips. He holds you close as if you were his lifeline that tethered him in place.
You rub at his back and smooth his hair, pressing kisses to his head, and offering the occasional squeeze. “You’re okay, Ji. I’m here, you’re safe, and we’re okay. I’m right here.” You coo to him soothingly. “I’ve got you Sanji. We’re safe. Just breathe, honey.”
You hold him for as long as he needs. Eventually, the sobs ease and his trembling body stills.
Sanji’s fingers release the fabric he was clutching so tightly, but he doesn’t make to move out of the embrace. He mutters something into your skin with a muffled voice. You hum out in question and Sanji huffs. He pulls back slightly with lips near your ear, “Said ‘m sorry.”
“You don’t have to apologize to me.”
“I know I just,” He huffs as he buries his face back in your shoulder. “You shouldn’t haven’t to put up with me l-like this, darling.”
“Sanji,” It rushes out of you as a humorless laugh, gently touching his jaw to guide him out of his hiding place. “Don’t apologize, okay?” Your fingers brush against his cheeks to wipe away his tears. “You have no idea how much I care about you, do you?” You prompt as you lean in a bit closer. “How much you mean to me.” A deep sigh as you lean your forehead against his.
“You- you don’t mean that.”
Your laugh doesn’t hold any humor, “Of course I do. You’ve no idea how precious you are to me, Sanji.” His breath shudders. “I’d do anything for you.”
“Careful, darling. That’s enough to make a guy fall for you.” He sighs lowly. “Head over heels.” Hands tug you even closer, your bodies fully pressed together. “Even more so than I already have.”
“That wouldn’t be so bad.”
Ace
It was a well known fact that the second division commander carried the world on his back. He took responsibility for any man that fall under his lead and fought for his life to protect anyone that called him brother.
Portgas D Ace carried more burdens than any man could ever know.
As a result, it wasn’t uncommon to find the man standing below the stars late at night. Often leaning against the railing and contemplating each and every thought that passed through his mind. They were manageable, more often than not, but sometimes they made him spiral.
And that is where you found him, leaning over the railing of the Moby Dick, deep within his spiraling thoughts.
“Can’t sleep again?” You call out to him, bounding down the stairs to join him at his side. Ace is quick to tip his head away to avoid your judging eye… though he knew deep down that you of all people would never judge him. “Ah, one of those nights, huh?” You hum, met with silence. “I can go if you want?”
“No,” He is quick to interject. “‘S better when you talk to me. Just like listening to you talk.” He mutters out, still avoiding your eye, and only slightly regretting the confession.
So you go about rambling about your day and over time Ace manages to meet your eye. Eventually, your timeline catches up to the present and you fall silent in contemplation. “You know, Ace. Nights like these are always my favorite.”
Ace glances up towards the sky and scrunches up his freckled nose in confusion. “Whys that?”
“Because I get to sit out here and talk to you for as long as I want. I get to be there for you, because you’re always there for me.” Upon your confession, Ace bows his head.
“You can’t-“ A strangled noise leaves his throat. “You can’t say stuff like that.” His elbows press into the railing as he buries his face into his palms. “You can’t-“
“I can.” You lean in a little bit closer so that your arm presses against his, his warm skin a stark contrast to the night chill. “Because I mean it. All of it, Ace. I care about you.”
He takes a shaky breath and you’re almost certain that he is going to remain silent. Then you hear his voice, barely above a whisper. “You- you shouldn’t. Shouldn’t care.” His face is still buried in his hands so his voice comes out muffled. “No one should-“
“Well, when have I ever cared about what I should or shouldn’t do.” You interrupt. “I am a pirate, after all.”
Ace laughs at this, allowing his hands to finally drop. You can only view his side profile but it’s not hard to see the tears streaking his cheeks from the moon light.
A hesitant hand lifts to his cheek, as if he would bolt if you moved too quickly. Your palm gently rest against his jaw as your fingers brush the tears away. His eyes flutter closed and he leans in to your touch for a brief moment.
Knowing that this moment of vulnerability could be shattered in mere seconds, you move to gently take his chin and guide him to face you. “Ace,” Your voice is low as he slowly opens his eyes to meet yours. They’re glossy with tears. You know he is only moments from pulling away and ending the conversation so you give one final push. “You are so, so loved.” You can feel just how tight his jaw clenches in your hold. One of his hands grip the railing tight. His breath hitches once. Twice. A third time and you’re pulling him into an embrace.
Fire fist Ace crumbles into you, burying his face in your hair and clenching the fabric of your shirt in his hands. You soothe his back, his bare skin almost searing to the touch with how much he was holding in. “No one else is around, it’s just us.” You reassure him, brushing your fingers through dark locks. “You can let go.”
And the tears begin to fall.
Quiet sobs huff into your ear as you hold Ace close to your body. He clings to you tight with a fear that you would just disappear into thin air. That you would leave him, just as he had been left so many times before. Fear that in leaving him, you would declare the same realization that everyone else has. That he is no good. He shouldn’t be here. His bloodline is doomed and he shouldn’t exist.
But none of that happens. Instead, you coo loving words into his ear in a way that he has never experienced. Gone was the joking air that was normally between the two of you, the teasing banter, and instead it was replaced by affirmations and everything else he was unfamiliar with.
“Just breathe, Ace. I’m here for you, always going to be here for you.” You continue to rub his back. The emotional release came with a few flickering flames, bursting for just a moment, but never touching you. It seems as if his skin was less searing hot now and he was comfortably warm. “You’re okay. It’s okay to cry sometimes, our bodies need it.”
“You tellin’ me it’s doctor’s orders to be a cry baby?” Ace huffs a laugh against your neck, voice far more raspy than usual.
“It’s my orders.” You poke at his shoulder.
“Well, yes ma’am.”
