Beckett Harrington x Emma Carlyle (MC) Masterlist

☆☆☆ All the shorts in this Series can be read as individual stories and take place during the early parts of the first book.☆☆☆

☆ Detention I : the beginning

Beckett and Emma chase unruly books as part of their detention in the library.

☆  Detention II: everything’s okay

Beckett is troubled, and Emma is there to offer some advice and some well earned teasing.

☆ Detention III : Helios 

Emma is running late for detention and Beckett is less than thrilled especially when he found out she brought her Arylu, Helios with her to the library.

☆ Detention IV : a walk in the dark

Following the day's detention, Emma calls Helios back to her to protect her as they walk home in the dark.

☆ Detention V : a look forward

Flashforward/future story: Emma and Beckett reflect on how their time in detention led them on a path of finding each other.

☆ Detention VI : Valentine’s Day

Emma is upset that they have detention, even on Valentine's Day. Beckett has a surprise for her.

☆ Detention VII : a kiss

Beckett lost a bet with Emma and now he owes her a kiss.

☆ Detention VIII: mixed signals

Emma struggles over the hot and cold nature of her relationship with Beckett.

☆ Detention IX: the shade

The Shade finds Emma and Beckett and chases them through the library.

☆ Detention X: supposed to be

Emma realizes she's come to love her time in detention with Beckett and she's exactly where she belongs.

☆ Little Stars  Brought to Earth  + Moodboard

Beckett finds Emma in a field and is curious to know what she is doing.

☆ Detention XI: returning

Emma returns a book she borrowed under Beckett's account, though she may have dog-eared some of the pages *gasp*

☆ Detention XII: reflection

Emma is startled by something in the mirror. Beckett and Emma revisit their rule of only kissing when a bet is loss. 

☆ Detention XIII: What did you do?

Emma and Beckett discover a mysterious waterfall of light.

☆ Detention XIV: The Warmth of the Sun

Beckett and Emma find new ways to entertain themselves during detention. (so much for their kissing rule)

Detention III

[Beckett Harrington x Emma (MC) Masterlist]

This takes place when Beckett and Emma have detention in the library at the beginning of book one.

“You’re late,” Beckett criticized as Emma entered the library two minutes past the time they were supposed to start detention.

Emma closed her umbrella and shook off the rainwater on her clothes. Her Arylu did the same, shaking some water on Beckett’s pants. 

Beckett looked at them in disgust, seeing the water droplets on his pristine clothes. “I know you probably feel the rules don’t apply to Sun-atts like you, but as I said before, the rules state no companions in the library.”

Emma sighed. “I know, I just wanted to spend as much time with Helios before detention as I could. He’s such an excellent companion.”

Helios barked softly as he rubbed against her legs.

“Good boy,” Emma knelt to hug him. “I’ll see you later, Helios. Go to the Ether.”

“Wait,” Beckett said reluctantly. Helios turned his head and looked at Beckett. Beckett took Emma’s hand. “Here. Hold Helios with your other hand.” 

Emma apprehensively did as told. Beckett moved her hand with his and muttered some incantation she’d never heard. A shimmering orb of light surrounded them for a moment before disappearing with a soft pop. When it vanished, Beckett, Emma, and Helios were all warm and completely dry.

“How’d you do that?” Emma marveled. 

“Maybe you should actually read up on Sun-atts and how to use your gifts,” Beckett chastised. “What’s the point if you don’t learn to use what you have?”

Helios moved between them, brushing up against both their legs. It was only then, that they both realized they were still holding hands. Emma silently dropped her hand away from his, reaching down to pet Helios. “Off you go, sweetheart.” Helios disappeared into the Ether.

“Thanks,” Emma offered, as she set off to the library. “You coming?” 

Beckett followed a step behind. “You named him Helios?” 

“Clearly,” Emma smiled, not sure where he was going.

“Was Apollo taken?” Beckett snarked. 

“Apollo may have become synonymous with the sun, but he originally was not. Helios, on the other hand, was the actual Greek god of the sun.”

Beckett’s lip turned up slightly.

Emma quirked her eyebrow at him. “Did I pass?”

“I’m not sure to what you are referring,” Beckett answered coyly. “Now, can we get started on today’s tasks?”

“Helios,” Emma called the second she exited the library.

Her Arylu appeared by her side instantaneously.

“Who's a good boy?” She cooed, scratching the space between his ears. “Did you have fun with your new friends?”

Beckett cleared his throat. “Arylus are not pets.”

“Who said Helios is a pet?!” Emma covered his ears.

“I…” Beckett rubbed the space between his eyes. It had been a long night and he didn’t need to spend another minute arguing with her. 

“Exactly,” Emma interjected proudly at Beckett’s frustration. “Why do you even care what I do?”

“I don’t,” Beckett claimed. “I just hate the thought of such a prestigious creature being subjected to play the role of a common canine and endure listening to baby babble.”

“Take that back!” Emma held Helios close. 

“I call it how I see it,” Beckett shook his head in disgust.

“Helios is the most important thing to me,” Emma defended. Her tone shifted as she exhaled. “I need him… okay? If you’re not the one sending that thing after me...someone else still is. I need his protection. It’s late and dark and I don’t want to be alone.” 

“Oh,” Beckett breathed. “I could… I mean… If you want… I could walk with you back to your dorm.” 

“It’s fine. I would hate to inconvenience someone of your stature. I mean clearly, I’m already enough of a hindrance to you,” Emma turned away from him.

“It’s not… you’re not,” Beckett resigned himself, his voice softer. “I’m sorry.”

“What?” Emma stammered. “Was that an ... apology?”

“Do you want me to walk you back or not?” Beckett questioned, his tone quickly returning to normal.

“I would like that,” Emma smiled. “Thank you.”
