Absolutely losing my shit at that one scene where Sandy and Kitty are both chasing Mark down the hall and fangirl-screaming out his name and then Alec comes out of nowhere and helps him hide from them 💀

currently losing my shit over Sandybell slapping this guy, robbing him, than dragging him to the police while sobbing because she believes he’s a thief who stole art supplies from rich boy Mark, while having no idea he’s actually rich boy Mark

Been thinking of the old cartoons I used to watch when I was a kid because who doesn’t love some of that bittersweet nostalgia? Hello! Sandybell was probably my first anime. It seems to be a bit obscure though? Has anyone else seen or heared of it and if you have please tell me what you think of it. I lpersonally loved it.

La bellissima doll simil Barbie di "Hello! Sandybell". I only saw maybe two episodes of Hello! Sandybell on TV as a child, but it's so cute, I was very disheartened to come online and find both English and Arabic-speaking people only mention how much they hated her or found her annoying. ;_; It seemed like such a sweet show, you're the first person I've seen speaking about it positively!!
I think it’s because they were exposed to “cute blonde protag that’s kind and wants everyone to get along” a lot and they just got tired of it. I’m debating whether I should watch the Spanish dub of Sandybell again before it gets taken down (I’m betting that the Countess that Sandybell meets is her long lost aunt or mom), or Ashita no Nadja. They both pretty much follow some of the beats of “plucky *foreign* orphan/only child growing up/ historical fiction plot” (Ashita no Nadja especially seems to be a callback to 70s-80s shoujo like Candy Candy and Alpen Rose despite being made in the early 2000s)
Side note: I won’t be watching more of A Little Princess Sara, after reading that post regarding the interview with the director and his comment that Miss Minchin is a good role model, and the fact that Sara - from what I saw - never lashing out or at least calling out on Miss Minchin for not being kind like in the book. Miss Minchin is even given a “tragic backstory” in the anime, where none should exist, or at least could be implied like in the 90s film. Miss Minchin was written to be unlikable for a reason, oh, and in the anime, Sara forgives her for all the abuse that she had to bear. (Plus, the anime is, while closer to the book, also took some 4-5 steps back by having her exhibit every emotion but extreme anger or resentment, not even throwing down her Emily after bottling up her frustrations like any little kid would. And I admit, I found Lottie a bit irritating for crying so much, even though she’s four and an orphan.
It’s another adaptation where Sara is portrayed with fair skin and long hair, even though her complexion and hair in the book is described as dark and short, which, interestingly enough, some people theorized that Sara could be half-Indian, which would add another layer as to why Miss Minchin and the servants would treat her so badly - it’d anger them to serve someone who “”naturally”” should be inferior to them. (For awhile, dark or tan skin was considered as a sign that someone worked outside, therefore part of the lower classes, while having light skin meant that you were rich enough that you didn’t need to have the sun “ruining” you.)

My first ever animes were ‘Heidi, Girl of the Alps’ (1974) and ‘Hello! Sandybell! (1981) bc Mexico licensed a lot of anime during the 90s. Some of my earliest memories are of watching these two shoes on tv while my aunt was taking care of me, before I was old enough to go to school (I was maybe 4, since I started school when I was 5).
Good times.
