Manders, I've been checking here since yesterday hoping to read your impressions of the panel & nothing!!! I hope you'll have it soon. C is under attack again, it's ugly & this time it's gone nuclear. Nothing & I mean nothing some of these women say about her is good or true. I watched the panel & thought she was wonderful throughout, eloquent, funny & a true professional. My heart really breaks for what they're saying/doing to her while cuddling, excusing & pampering S. Their hate is horrible.
Everyone needs to calm down. I thought the panel was fine but in general it lacked energy. But Caitriona was most definitely not the sole culprit in that. I think this was a jetlag issue—they ALL looked tired. Yes, he led the IG takeover (which was 95% focused on himself, but I’m glad he remembered he was on Outlander for once). But Sam was also very subdued throughout the panel. This jetlag issue is very poor planning on the part of production and Starz. Sam and Caitriona have had a couple strings of days off in the last month. I realize it’s probably easier said than done, but I’m not sure why they couldn’t do them a solid and move some of those off days to give them a cushion.
I also think that the tone of this panel was different, it was more professional and serious. Which is definitely fine by me. We have enough games and whisky and people prefacing questions to Sam with, “I’m in MPC and you changed my life…” It’s not a fan event. This is about their craft and performances. Members of the Television Academy were there. This was part of a campaign to get them Emmy nominations. They also did another panel because of demand (maybe even three, I’m getting conflicting intel)—so who knows if the subsequent panel flowed better or was livelier.
I was surprised to find out this morning she was getting dragged for this. Like what on earth? I am 100% resigned to the fact that she CANNOT win with some of these fans. But it is incredibly frustrating. Caitriona’s answers were thoughtful, insightful and showed her investment in her character. I just think she truly gets Claire, but because she so subtly infuses that into her performance, it goes unnoticed. She took Claire from grief-stricken to a cold woman living a half-life, to finally being herself because she was back where she belonged and with the man she was supposed to be with. People don’t give her enough credit for a very layered performance this season. I don’t even care that she talked a lot about Frank. She clearly enjoyed working with Tobias and those were very meaty scenes with a lot of layers that both of them did well with. She absolutely lit up when Toni Graphia was talking about how her favorite moment was Claire’s decision to leave Brianna and go back to Jamie and how it was really important to show that. Also her beautiful work in 3x10 with Albie as Elias Pound, which really should be what she submits for the Emmy.
Both characters made sacrifices and lived compromised lives and both actors portrayed that beautifully. Yet, why doesn’t Caitriona get any credit for her 3x05 performance, yet people go on and on about Jamie’s similar thread and Sam’s performance in 3x04, especially at the end as he’s riding away from Willie? Is it because people care more about Willie than Brianna (Jamie and Claire’s child together!)? Or is it because, without fail, anything Jamie ever does is inevitably going to be justified, elevated, and/or preferred over Claire?
I don’t ever want to hear how Sam doesn’t get enough promotion or attention again. They’re clearly campaigning for him this year. They didn’t do this for Caitriona and “Faith.” They pushed costumes and sets during Season 2. I’m still bitter that she was never rewarded for that phenomenal performance other than the Scottish BAFTA. Yes, she has three Golden Globe noms but that doesn’t necessarily mean she’s on the Emmy radar.
You want to know what actually annoyed me about the panel? Sam’s constant attempts to be funny, which rarely land. When they were asked about what they thought of the others best moments, Caitriona was like “you were so heartbreaking and nuanced” in 3x01. But then, because of his need to be cheeky, he was just like “you were good” in 3x03. It was awkward. I wish he would go back to being humble and unabashedly praising Caitriona like the early days. Because that’s one thing that hasn’t changed with her, she’s always championing him.
The mutual camaraderie that was visible throughout Season 1 promotion has seemingly evaporated. That drew a lot of viewers to the show. The public displays of mutual support and awe for one another were infectious. But they have been tragically lost. You can look out for number one and your career and STILL be excited about your job and costar. In general, I think people (myself included) are reading into this one panel way too much. I just think people are starting to notice some behavior that has actually been going on for at least a year. I think they do have a great bond and truly have fun on set together. But, in general, they’re done with any excessive displays of exuberance or anything that could be “misconstrued.” While part of me blames the fans who ruined it and forced them to withdraw in this way, the other part of me blames them for allowing it all to get to them. They make it weirder and they seriously need to cut it out and get back to selling me Claire and Jamie together.

THE TOO GOOD TEN with OLIVIA KING
Up-and-coming pop/soul artist Olivia King is the complete package - singer, songwriter and entrepreneur. Since her first official release in 2017 the Rhode Island born singer has racked up over 5 million streams on Spotify alone, has received placement on Spotify’s convented New Music Friday, been placed in campaign for Netflix’s Stranger Things, made the cover image of Tidal’s Rising: Pop placement, has started two businesses and so much more - and the exciting thing is that she’s just getting started! Never slowing down, her latest release - “Number 1″ marks her 8th release of 2021 alone and she’s already promising more music to come. Lucky for Too Good Music, King took some time out of her current world takeover to take on the latest Too Good Ten. Learn more about this straight-up boss, her latest single, what her experience on The Voice was like, the story behind her self-proclaimed title of “your friendly singing cat lady” and so much more. Full interview below:
The Too Good Ten. Ten Questions. One Artist. Too Good. Let’s go.
Tumblr media
1. Let’s start from the beginning – what was it about music that you were so drawn to? When did you decide that you wanted to make a career out of it?
OLIVIA KING: I was always drawn to music as a kid. Constantly singing and putting on shows for my family! My freshman year of college was when I realized that I could make this into a career if I put my mind to it.
2. You started writing your own music at age 17 – do you remember the first song you wrote? What was the most surprising thing to learn about songwriting?
OK: I honestly don’t remember the first ever song I wrote but the first official song I co-wrote and released was called “In My Head.” I always had a love for songwriting but got really confident with it by the end of college. Songwriting really is about doing it over and over. You really need to write 100 songs to get even 1 that has potential to be a “hit.”
3. At age 19 you auditioned for “The Voice” and made it through two rounds. What was that experience like? Looking back, is there anything you’ve changed about your audition or song selection?
OK: It was a pretty cool experience. I’m not sure I would do it again but was definitely a fun time! Looking back, I would have really made my song choice super different and put my own spin on a super popular song while also focusing on making my “look” a little more unique!
Tumblr media
4. Congrats on the recent release of “Number 1!” What’s the inspiration behind the song? What’s your favorite lyric(s) in the song?
OK: I very rarely write about my current relationship. I’ve been in a healthy relationship for going on 9 years now and thought it was time to give credit where credit is due, ha! In past relationships, I never felt like a priority but in my current relationship with my now fiancé, he has ALWAYS made me feel like his first priority and I can’t tell you how awesome that feels. So this one is a little ode to him, always making me feel like “Number 1!”
5. In celebration of your song “Number 1” let’s see your number 1 pick (or favorite) for each category below:
a. Celebrity Crush: Chris Brown b. Ice Cream Flavor: Mint Chocolate Chip c. Drink At The Bar: Water with lemon (ha-ha, I don’t drink!) d. Vacation Spot: Disney e. Animal You Wish You Could Have As A Pet: Monkey f. Piece Of Advice You’ve Gotten: “If someone tells you ‘no,’ ask someone else.” - My Grandfather g. Song You Wish You Would’ve Written:  “Here” - Alessia Cara h. Favorite Part of Your Hometown: Living close to the ocean! i. Thing To Do When You’re Not Working: Thrift shopping!
Tumblr media
6. As an artist and growing up with social media, how do you balance the obligation as an artist to constantly post while not letting it affect your mental health? Anything you’d like to see change about social media in the future?
OK: Honestly, I post when and what I want to post. I do feel a bit of pressure to stay consistent because there is a direct correlation to how often I post and how successful my career is. I’ve learned to love it and see the positives in it instead of looking at it as a bad thing. It’s important for my mental health to only follow people who post things that make me feel happy or confident or entertained! If someone is posting something that doesn’t serve me, I unfollow. Simple! The one thing I’d love to change about social media is Instagram to go back to chronological order instead of them choosing what we want to see. If I follow someone, I WANT TO SEE THEIR POSTS! LOL!
7. You describe yourself in your IG bio as “Your Friendly Singing Cat Lady” – how did you gain that title? In a world where money and space wasn’t an issue – what would be your ideal number of cats to own?
OK: OMG HAHA!!! Probably would like just 1 or 2 more! Probably two boys to balance out the two girls I have lol. That title is definitely self-proclaimed ha-ha! I just want people to know off the bat, that my account shouldn’t be taken too seriously. I will answer just about everyone’s (nice) dm’s and want people to know that we can be friends! I don’t want to be seen as this unreachable artist. I love connecting with my supporters through social media!
Tumblr media
8. In addition to being an artist you also are the CEO of Make Music Moves – an online course aimed at helping independent artists find major success. What was the inspiration to start this company and pursue this awesome mission? What has been the most popular course so far?
OK: MMM has been put on the back burner for the past year or so as other things have just taken the spotlight! I’m hoping to resurface it soon. I created this course so that I could directly help and lead other artists to success as I never had a mentor in the business. Recently, I’ve focused my efforts on my own music career and have really grown my Influencer Marketing Agency, A-List Me with my fiancé. We are hoping to intertwine this with music soon and can’t wait to show people what we have up our sleeve!
9. If you could only listen to (5) artists for the rest of your life, who would they be?
Frank Sinatra
Ariana Grande
J. Cole
Lauryn Hill
Beyonce
10. What’s the rest of 2021 look like for Olivia King?
OK: A LOT OF MUSIC! I’ve made it a point this year, to release as much music as humanly possible lol!

The Sunday Series Vol. 3
Happy Sunday Everyone! We’re back with our 3rd edition of our Sunday Series and touching on everything from AR/VR, to personalization to an inspiring podcast and a new apothecary discovery. In case you’ve missed the last two posts, our Sunday Series is where our team shares one thing we discovered/were inspired by/or enjoyed during the week. I loved hearing your responses to last week’s post and hope you continue to share what inspired you during the week in the comments section below.
Julia- On this last trip to Paris, we stayed at the absolutely beautiful Rosewood Hotel de Crillon. After being closed for renovations for over 4 years, they finally re-opened this past July with much anticipation. We’ve stayed at our fair share of Paris hotels in the past, but this was, without a doubt, one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had. I keep raving about it to everyone, because honestly, it was exceptional. The staff was so kind, everything about the hotel was dreamy and my favorite part, the Buly products they use throughout. I had quite a few readers reach out when they saw that we were in Paris, telling me to go to the Buly 1803 store in Saint Germain. And once I put two and two together, I added it as a must-stop on our trip. After smelling all of the mini samples that were in our hotel room bathroom, and asking the staff at the hotel which scents were used in the lobby (the alabaster in “woody”), I headed out to the shop. The store was lined with old, intricate wood cabinets filled with everything from candles and incense, to perfumes and beauty products, with each one bursting with aroma. My treasure I took home with me? Their “Rose” perfume. Unlike a typical alcohol based perfume, Buly’s are water based, which actually makes it last longer. Each one slightly changes when applied, making it unique to your own personal scent. While I wanted to take every single candle home with me, the heavy marble and glass made it a little impossible. Instead, I made sure to stock up on all of the goodies that were in our bathroom at the hotel, with plans to savor every last drop. Once our house in finished next year, Thomas and I said we would treat ourselves to some of our favorite Buly 1803 scents to bring back the wonderful memories we had in Paris.
Thomas- My discussion this Sunday is about Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality and what I think their future is in our lives. Last Christmas, we bought Julia’s brother an HTC Vive, which according to her Computer Science majoring brother, was the bee’s knees of VR systems. We had a ton of fun playing games on our holiday break, but I haven’t thought much on the topic since then. AR/VR mostly have entertainment functions now, think about Pokemon Go (catching virtual Pokemon while out in the real world) or IG and Snapchat face filters. Besides a few laughs and some fun, they haven’t made much of an impact on our life; they don’t make our life easier or make us more productive.
I believe the next most significant opportunity for AR, specifically, will be with shopping applications. Maybe you’ve seen AR features popping up in stores for the past couple of years. These novel applications are fun, but I’m not sure they make a significant impact. I think the next major adoption of AR will come via our phones that allow even more substitutions for shopping in person, driving higher e-commerce sales. For instance, Warby Parker launched an app that utilizes the iPhone X selfie camera to analyze a person’s face to suggest eyeglasses.
Amazon just launched an AR feature on their iOS app that lets you place thousands of virtual products into real life to see how they look before buying. Amazon is notorious for launching big ideas, giving them massive exposure on their site and then waiting to see how they perform. While most fail (by Amazon’s standards) the enormous successes like Prime, Prime Video and Alexa have been responsible for insane growth. AR may or may not be a big hit for Amazon shoppers but seeing as Alexa helped grow Amazon’s US ecommerce sales market share from 38.1% in 2016 to an estimated 43.5% (a jump of $50 billion in sales) in 2017, each product announcement Amazon makes is worth paying attention to. If AR ends up working for in home items like furniture, televisions and cooking appliances you can bet that Amazon will put everything they have into creating AR experiences for apparel, a market that they are determined to takeover and that they currently account for 6.6% of US Sales.
Laura – Ever feel like a robot when it comes to your morning routine? As of recently, I did. When I wake up I turn on my Spotify playlist to listen to as I get ready thinking some of my favorite tunes would get me in the right mood to start my day. I would listen to the playlist all the way into my car, on my drive to work, and again on my way home. After a while it started to feel like the movie Groundhog Day – doing some of the same things over and over, and lately I began to feel really blah about it. The time change with an earlier sunset didn’t help my weird mood either! Thomas had showed me a website of a successful career/life coach name Marie Forleo, we were simply admiring her website but while doing so I found her amazing self-help podcast. Don’t be deterred by the words “self-help”, this is a podcast geared towards business minded individuals with an entrepreneurial spirit working towards living a productive, meaningful, and more fulfilling life. Marie’s voice is so captivating and she is wildly entertaining to listen to (she was even recognized by Oprah)! She keeps almost all episodes short, sweet, and straight to the point – no extra fluff. Some great topics included are “How to Keep Stress From Shriveling Your Brain into a Raisin”, “Don’t Let Comparison Steal Your Joy, Profits and Prosperity”, “How to Make a Big Career Change When You’re Afraid You’ll Fail”, and so many more valuable topics. Now every morning as I’m getting ready I listen to a few episodes and her positive attitude has been the best motivation for the start of my day. My favorite thing about her advice is that it’s applicable to anyone’s daily life. You don’t have to be an entrepreneur to implement her tips. If you ever find yourself in a creative rut or are often contemplating wanting more out of life, take a listen to Marie. She is the definition of optimism and empowerment and it will certainly rub off on you!
Margaret – From media sites to beauty products, a growing trend is the ability for consumers to customize company service offerings and products to meet unique preferences. There is a broader cultural movement toward personalization. Media is catered to consumers via personal preferences and unique interests, and new beauty products are designed to add a personal touch. Product recommendations based on recent online behavior can be delivered straight to an inbox or appear within a retailer’s site after purchase. Ads are served based on behavioral data on social platforms. We’ve never been served on such a personal level so fast. Whether this is a good, bad, or necessary trend is up for debate, but nevertheless it’s important to be aware of what services and products we can personalize. Here are a few companies I’ve recently noticed are taking hold of this trend:
Glossier You Perfume : A personalized perfume for your unique scent
Amazon : Scroll down the Amazon home page to find related items to the one’s you’ve purchased and ‘more items to consider.’
Eater : Subscribe to your city’s Eater newsletter and receive new places to check out near you
Netflix: You can customize your experience and recommendations in a variety of ways
Cuyana : Create a personalized Cuyana leather piece
Medium: Identify the topics you’re interested in, and Medium will serve you those kinds of articles and identify more articles you may be interested in based on your activity
Gmail: Customize your inbox for a productivity system that suits your needs
