Good Omens graphic novel update: April 2024

PledgeManager

Earlier this month, we launched the PledgeManager, where shipping is being facilitated. If you missed it, you can read the initial announcement here. We have been adapting the FAQ page to add further recurring asks, so please do visit there if you have a particular query as a starting point. You can view this here. We are working through all queries received - some are taking a bit longer than others, as they need to be raised with PledgeManager, or others involved, so we appreciate your patience in these instances where we are yet to get back. The most common question, which we include here, is the sock sizes:

If you need to change your size, you have the ability to self-unlock your order and make any adjustments you need to. For socks that are part of a tier, there is a button to unlock and modify on the bottom of your receipt where you can alter your choice. If they were an add on, PledgeManager recommends that you remove the item from your cart and add it again with the correct size selected and complete their order to finalize the change.

Shipping

We are also aware of queries arising about the shipping rates themselves. While we have been open from the start of the project that shipping will be charged at a later date, we understand that the resultant cost has come as a surprise to some and that some prices are higher than expected. We want to be transparent on this: we have been working with our fulfillment partners on confirming product weights and the rates for shipping globally during the months since the project’s completion. The cost of doing this ethically - ensuring that everyone involved in the process from creators to those packing boxes is paid fairly, as well as ensuring the packaging is robust at this scale - is substantial.

We’ve done our best to minimise extra costs around shipping, while also not cutting any corners – we want your pledge rewards to reach you safe and sound. We have also subsidised costs across a number of territories, but costs for shipping to many locations remain high. The final thing we’ve done is lock in shipping costs now, a year out from fulfillment. We expect third party shipping costs to increase over the coming year, following the upwards trends across the board so far, but we will continue to absorb any subsequent rises.

We want to assure backers that the shipping does not include a profit margin for us, and every charge to our backers is something we’ve tried to minimise.

We absolutely understand that this is disappointing to many, and we endeavour to keep making the surrounding campaign the best it can be.

The timeline

The PledgeManager will run across 2024, and close at some point ahead of publication date (Spring 2025). When that date has been decided, we will give everyone as much notice as possible.

The phone buzzed. I was sound asleep when I woke up to its vibration, but didn’t care to check it since it was too early in the morning. “I’ll check it later,” I thought.

Buzz

Again. I tried to ignore.

Buzz

I finally gave in. I went to the other side of the bed and took a quick look at who was calling.

It was my father. I picked it up.

“Hello?”

The voice was glitching. Probably due to the poor internet connection from my side, I thought. He couldn’t hear me properly, but that one sentence he said left me astounded.

“Heard you got arrested?”

“What?”

The phone hung up. I tried to process what just happened. “Arrested? The fuck-”, I thought.

Buzz

I picked it up again. This time it was a video call from my mother. She said the same thing. “Heard you got arrested?”

“What are you talking about?”

“Where are you?”

“In my room, sleeping. Where else?”

I have never been more confused. What are they even talking about? Besides, my post-slumber-hangover hadn’t worn out, so I was even more puzzled.

Then they explained the entire story, about what exactly happened. Turns out someone had called them disguised as a police officer, claiming that their child had been arrested for doing drugs with four other people, that the media was waiting to interview them, and that they needed a ransom of about 1 lakh rupees to bail us out, or our entire careers are going in the trash. Guessing that these are some kind of hackers, I wasn’t surprised to hear that they knew my full name and the country I live in currently, which is out of India.

It took me some time to comprehend what I have just heard. I don’t really know what I was feeling, but I thought it was definitely a hilarious and interesting story they made up. Not very creative, but works. They asked them not to hang up or call me, but my mother did it anyway, which, now, I’m glad she did. My father hung up their call and buzzed an actual police officer he knew. After a brief conversation with him, he came to know that this scam call has been going on for a few days now. These fraudsters usually target families with offspring who are students abroad, and many have fallen victim to this scam by emotionally manipulating the students’ parents.

I knew this was the case, and my parents did too, but just for good measure, they gave me a call and I’m thankful they did. I called the same police officer my father had buzzed, and after talking awhile, I got to know about another ongoing fraud in India, the Fed Ex fraud, where someone calls you claiming that they have found illegal substances in a package ‘you have ordered’ and ask you to pay a ransom for them to spare you your lives from getting imprisoned for roughly 10-15 years. He asked me to make everyone aware of this, just in case it happens to them, which got me writing this article/essay/whatever you want to call it.

If any of you receive any such shady calls regarding your relative/child getting arrested abroad, or about an unknown package ‘you ordered’ with illegal substances, kindly do not take them seriously. A true police officer will never do something this way. They have legal procedures to let you know about your wrongdoings (if any), so kindly ignore these calls.

Why are there so many hoops to jump through to get a fucking state ID?

Like why is there so much to moving than there needs to be.

I already didn't want to move gkdkkdkdkdk but I wanted the help my relatives are giving me but I didn't want to move across the entire fucking country away from everyone I care about to be with people I've only seen occasionally over the past 10 years. Like I'm grateful. I'm not trying to sound like a whiney bitch baby about it but my best friend of 10+ years is across the country. I had to leave my favorite roommates behind, the first people I've lived with where I've felt like I actually get to, y'know be a person. I had to cut a relationship short because I was moving in 6 months. (If I hadn't we'd be close to our 1 year anniversary, now I've barely talked with them in 3 months) I get here and get told it's normal to be homesick (no shit, I've moved cross country 3 times now. I know) living is a little less expensive and a little more affordable here, but I'm still going to need roommates once I cana actually get somewhere to permanently live. But I keep getting encouraged NOT to have them because I've had so many terrible experiences with roommates over the years (yeah, I wonder why I fucking hate people?) but that's not feasible at all. Ohhhh get a better job!!! You can control your life and how you're doing with a better job!!! No, no I fucking can't. The economy sucks. Rent is too expensive, there's a bunch of other shit, and you're expecting me to eat only health food and honestly I'd rather be able to save money than eat gluten free fucking bread. I know it sounds ungrateful but FUCK. I'm not paying rent because on paper I'm homeless, this isn't a permanent address or place for me so I can't even receive mail in my own fucking name unless it's at a PO box, that I can't even have packages sent to. Like I know my family isn't going to go through my mail, at least not intentionally, but I don't wanna explain why I like BL so much or why I've ordered it or anything because about half of my explanation for that is "oh yeah, helps me deal with gender dysphoria." Because .. it does. It's one of the things that actually, really helps. That's not an acceptable answer though btw, so I would just have to use the good 'ol " I like it for the same reason guys like lesbian porn" excuse I used in high school (lmao). So I can't order BL because what if someone else opens it. I mean I guess I could but that's not a conversation I want to have. Despite being handed a pack of condoms when I started going on dates. Like I could but I don't want to explain myself. And adults should have their own mail anyway. I got treated like a kid for so long that it's something that's important. It's autonomy that I like having (if it falls under that?).

Speaking of DYSPHORIA, good fucking god it hasn't been this bad in YEARS. Like I could kinda manage it to a point but pretty much everyone I was close with knew I wasn't cisgender. I got gendered fairly correctly on a regular basis, no one expected me to be girly. I wasn't expected to put on makeup when doing certain things outside of the house. I'd go literal MONTHS without touching my makeup, now it's maybe 2 days at the most and I want to rip my skin off. I wasn't told to wear low cut shirts to show off the body part I'm most dysphoric about because it's an asset. I wasn't expected to be pretty, I could just kind of be. Like yeah I was perceived as a woman but I didn't have to put effort into a fucking performance art of being feminine just to meet other people's expectations. And maybe I don't have to but I don't want people to know I'm queer and I feel like an aversion to most things feminine is like a neon flashing sign. While probably somewhat ok I don't feel safe being out. It's exhausting. I want to rip my chest off. If a box cutter would get it off without killing me I'd do it. Like??? This is so fucking uncomfortable and no one understands. I had a meltdown last month because of it and had to just say they hurt more than usual. Oh, but they're a good thing to have! At least they come out further than your stomach! Men love them!

Consider: I've wanted them off of my body entirely for over 2/3 of the time I've had them. They're not only uncomfortable but they get in the way, and I could care less about what any man I might fuck thinks about them? Like??? What the fuck? I don't care, mother fucker doesn't have to deal with the back pain that comes with them or any other drawbacks. Get them off me.

I also can't smoke weed? Which yeah it's shitty but like, it's not legal here and it's something that helps. I have to moderate my drinking which I should have been doing anyway but being an alcoholic and quitting over night and then not... Not telling anyone I'm struggling with that is an accomplishment. And despite being able to realize that's a big accomplishment for me, it kind of feels like the bare fucking minimum, but pair that with everything else and it's another straw on the camel's back of stressors. Some sort of ability to use a substance would be fucking nice. Just on days off. Come on.

Like I'm grateful I'm being given help. I'm tired.

It's not like I hate everything about being here. I'm just tired and I can't hit the ground running like I've been expected to. It's a lot. It's too much and I'm so fucking tired. But no breaks. Not allowed. And I get being an adult means you don't get breaks, I've been one for long enough but like, everything from gender dysphoria, missing everyone, significantly reducing my alcohol intake, quitting weed, getting a job, pretending not to be fucking disabled everyday is a lot. It's a fucking lot and I don't know how long I can do it. I'm doing my best. I like working. I'm grateful I have a place to stay. I'm grateful I'm getting things done to try and finally get a driver's licence. But I'm so fucking tired and "just get a better job" isn't going to fix my income issues. If I'm this tired from part time how the fuck am I going to work full time? I don't think I'm even capable of doing that? Hell the last time I worked full time hours was when I started cutting. Like I made it through all of high school, go my first job and started actively self harming a couple months later (maybe not even a full month lmao). Like I'm disabled and will probably always be a part timer because I'm barely functioning. But oh, take these supplements and eat healthy and you'll have more energy. No??? No I won't? I'm still exhausted?

I know I'm a weak fucking failure but that's what I've always been? And essentially cosplaying as a person that isn't is so fucking exhausting. I finally actually cried about being homesick for the first time today and I feel terrible about it. I haven't responded to text messages since last night. There's 4 people waiting on replies and I'm so fucking tired. One of them is the guy I've been dating and I'm dreading telling him I wasn't able to get a fucking state ID today and I fucking hate it. I'm a failure and annoying and I think as soon he actually realizes that he's going to stop talking to me and I'm desperate to spend time with people I'm not related to. I'm desperate to not be told religious stuff or that the church can help me because religion isn't going to fix me. Like. Work is great! I actually really like my new job!! I like the guy I've been going out with. I have another friend. I'm working really hard. There are things I like here but I the expectations are too high and even though I'm meeting them I feel like I'm barely managing that and I'm not even myself whatever that is anymore.

We’re parked right out front.

No sooner had Nellie received the text than she stepped outside the airport terminal with Torrance and saw Kyle, standing next to a car parked at the curb. She picked up her pace, wheeling her suitcase behind her, and he smiled at her, wide as ever. When she reached him, she let her bag go and stood up on her toes to wrap both arms around his neck. Her feet left the ground as he picked her up in a warm hug.

“Welcome back,” he said. “I missed you.”

Nellie’s heart soared. “I missed you, too.”

He set her back down, and she was tempted to take his face in her hands and kiss him. But then she saw Will out of the corner of her eye and remembered they weren’t alone.

“How was the flight?” Will asked.

“Nerve-wracking,” Torrance returned. “I’m so happy to be back on the ground.”

“There was some turbulence on the connecting flight,” Nellie explained. “Nothing crazy, but yeah.”

“Well, I’m glad you’re safely here,” Will said. “But let’s get going; I’ve already had to argue with some prick trying to tell me I’ve sat here too long.”

They loaded their luggage into the trunk of his car and then all piled in, Torrance up front with Will, Kyle in the back with Nellie. Torrance had to scoot her seat all the way up to accommodate Kyle’s long legs, and as soon as they were all buckled up, they were off.

“Is Mark at the house?” Torrance asked. “I don’t know why I expected him to be here, too.”

“Probably because he and Kyle are a package deal,” Will commented. It made Kyle scoff.

“We are our own people, thank you very much,” he pointedly returned. “But Mark’s actually picking up takeaway for us. We kind of figured you two would be tired and hungry and just want to head straight back.”

“Yeah, I hope Chinese is alright,” Will added. “It was the easiest thing.”

“That sounds perfect, actually,” Torrance gratefully said.

“It does,” Nellie agreed. She smiled at Kyle. “Thank you; that was thoughtful.”

“Well, I’m a thoughtful person,” he smirked, and he reached for her hand and intertwined their fingers, giving her a wink as he did. Nellie’s insides warmed. Two months had been too long.

The drive back to Will’s house felt longer than it took, and by the time they arrived, Nellie and Torrance were both ready to crash. It was barely past 7 p.m. in London, but that meant it was after 3 a.m. in Tokyo, and they were exhausted from more than eighteen hours of travel. But Mark had timed picking up dinner just right, and they all sat in the living room and made tentative plans for the next day while they ate, and then it was off to bed—Torrance and Will to the master suite, Nellie and Kyle to his room. She’d decided it would be easiest—not to mention free—to just stay there for the night. As for the rest of the weekend, they’d discussed the possibility of getting a hotel room if they decided they needed more privacy.

“So, that’s the loo,” Kyle told her with a point at the door directly in front of them as he carried her suitcase up the stairs. “Mark and I share that one; Will has an ensuite.” They took a left at the landing. “That’s Mark’s room.” Another sharp left and they continued down the hall. “Towel closet… that’s the master. And this is mine.” He opened the door and stepped aside so she could go in first. It was on the smaller side, but it was tidy and his bed was made, which didn’t necessarily surprise her. But she wondered if he’d tidied up extra because he’d been expecting her.

“Sorry; Mark got the bigger spare because of seniority,” he apologized.

“No worries,” she assured him with a smile. “It’s cozy.”

He set her luggage down and pushed the door nearly closed. “Did you want to take a shower, or are you just gonna crash?”

“I was thinking I’d take a quick one,” she nodded. “Just to rinse off the airplane and everything.”

“Okay, I’ll get you a towel.” He went back out and returned a few seconds later with a fluffy gray towel. “I got you a washcloth, too, in case you need it,” he said, and he set them on the bed for her. “And if you need body wash, you’re more than welcome to use mine.”

“I have some, but thanks,” she grinned. It was cute, how he wanted to make sure she had everything she needed.

“Okay. Well, I’ll leave you to it, but…”

He trailed off, and then he cupped her face in his hands and kissed her. Nellie melted into it, into him, curling her fingers in the fabric of his shirt. She hadn’t forgotten how soft his lips were. She hadn’t realized just how much she’d craved the feel of them against hers again.

“I’ve been wanting to do that for the last two hours,” Kyle said as he pulled away.

Nellie tilted her mouth toward his. “So have I,” she breathed, and they kissed again.

“You sure you want me to leave you to shower?” he grinned against her lips.

She laughed. “Yes. Not tonight,” she said, and there was no need to elaborate on what she meant. He knew.

“I know,” he returned. Another kiss. “I’ll just be downstairs if you need anything.”

“Okay,” she said, and he left and closed the door behind him, leaving her with butterflies in her stomach, her lips tingling.

The hot shower had made Nellie even more tired, and she’d drifted off to sleep almost as soon as her head hit the pillow. But she’d felt Kyle climb into bed sometime later and wrap his arm around her, pulling her back against his chest, little spoon-big spoon. It had been a perfect fit, the way her body tucked into his. And when she woke up next to him that morning, she hadn’t felt so well-rested in weeks.

“Morning,” he smiled as he stretched awake. His hair was a messy mop atop his head. Nellie wanted to run her fingers through it.

“Morning,” she echoed. “How’d you sleep?”

“Mm… good. Really good, actually. I quite liked coming back to you in my bed.”

“Oh, did you?”

“Mhm. Getting you in my t-shirt is next.”

Nellie just smiled.

“C’mere.” He lifted his arm, and she snuggled up to him and laid her head on his bare chest, her hand sliding over his abdomen. She swore he’d gotten bigger since she’d seen him last. It made her think about how Riley had called him a twink when they’d run into each other at the bar—and how wrong he was.

“You know you snore?”

“What?” She lifted her head to look at him. He smirked.

“Not loud. But you definitely did. It was cute, actually.”

She laid her head back down. “I’m blaming the jet lag.”

He laughed. “I don’t think that’s how that works.”

He rubbed circles on her shoulder, and Nellie closed her eyes, content. She felt like she could stay there all day.

“This is so ironic,” Kyle said.

“What is?”

“Well, I was just thinking about how the first time we met was because you’d stayed the night with Riley back when we lived together, and now you’re here with me.”

Nellie laughed lightly to herself. “I thought about that last week. Torr and I ran into him when we went out the night before the tag league final. I might have told him you and I have been talking.”

“What did he say?”

“He called you a twink.”

“What?” Kyle returned, audibly appalled. “Whatever, he’s obviously jealous for being a big fat loser.”

Nellie just laughed again.

“You know I had a crush on you then?” Kyle asked.

“You did?”

“Oh, big time,” he confirmed. “I remember this one time you were over, and I got up to go to the loo, and you were coming out of it right as I was trying to go in.”

“I remember that,” Nellie said.

“Yeah, you were only wearing a t-shirt. I might have filed that image away and used it for stress relief later, if you know what I mean.”

“Kyle!” Nellie gasped and picked up her head to look at him again.

“I’m just being honest,” he smirked. “Plus, I was only nineteen then.”

“Oh, God,” she winced. “Don’t tell me that.”

He laughed again, and then they heard both their phones chime in succession, Kyle’s from his nightstand, Nellie’s from on top of her suitcase. It must have been a message in the group chat.

“I bet that’s Will,” Kyle said as he reached for his phone. Nellie could see the screen as he unlocked it and opened the text. It was from Will.

We’re making breakfast so finish fucking and come downstairs.

Nellie laughed under her breath. “I guess there’s gonna be a lot of that this weekend.”

“What—us fucking or them teasing us about it?”

He looked at her as if it were a genuine question. She smirked. “Yes.”

Kyle grinned. “Alright. Touché, Nellie, touché,” he returned, and Nellie kissed his cheek and got out of bed.

“Come on, I’m hungry.”

The plan had been to do something as a group that day, but no one was really surprised when Will said over breakfast that he and Torrance wanted to go off on their own to do some sightseeing around London. However, they all agreed to get back together that evening for “one of our famous United Empire dinners,” as Will had put it.

“But Torr and I aren’t in United Empire,” Nellie had said.

“Yet,” Kyle and Will had simultaneously returned.

But just because Will and Torrance were doing their own thing didn’t mean that the rest of them had to change their plans, and so later that morning, Nellie, Kyle, and Mark all got ready and headed out to an indoor adult mini golf course to meet up with Francesco Akira, who was also in town for the RevPro show the next night. Neither Nellie nor Torrance had met Francesco, but the guys had all been talking him up all morning—they swore they would both love him.

“So, how long have you known him?” Nellie asked as they arrived.

“Not long. Like a month-and-a-half, maybe?” Mark said with a questioning look at Kyle, who nodded.

“Yeah; his first RevPro show was one of the ones last month where we had the singles matches. But we all clicked straightaway. I think Will wants him to get a bit more experience and then we’ll probably get him to join UE.”

“A bit more experience?” Nellie curiously returned. “How long has he been wrestling?”

“Only since the start of this year. Mostly in Japan for AJPW, actually. You two might have crossed paths and not even realized it.”

“There he is,” Mark said, and Nellie looked over to see a young man with red hair standing near the ticket counter.

“Hey.” Francesco smiled as they walked over, and Mark and Kyle both greeted him with friendly bro-hugs before Kyle introduced Nellie.

“Francesco, Nellie; Nellie, Francesco.”

“Hi,” Nellie waved.

“Ciao bella,” he returned, and the next thing she knew he leaned in and gave her two air kisses, one on each cheek. “Finally I get to meet the RevPro Women’s Champion. I’ve heard a lot about you.”

“Oh,” she smiled, a bit flustered by the whole display. She hadn’t expected the cheek kisses, but maybe she should have—they had said he was Italian. “Only good things, I hope,” she said with a glance up at Kyle.

“Yes, but I don’t think Kyle did you justice.”

“Alright, you’re charming and Italian, she gets it,” Kyle interjected, and he put a hand on the small of Nellie’s back. She grinned slyly up at him. Was he getting jealous? “So, which course do you think we should do?” he asked no one in particular.

Mark shrugged. “We’re not pressed for time. We could probably do both if we wanted.”

They got in line. Nellie had planned to pay for herself, but Kyle bought her game for her and genially told the cashier not to listen to her when she tried to pay instead. “Fine, but I’m getting the next one,” she told him. Then they picked out their clubs and balls—bright purple and neon pink for Nellie, lime green and electric blue for Kyle—and stepped aside to wait for Francesco and Mark.

“Francesco seems nice,” Nellie said. “You’re right, I think he would fit right in with UE.”

“I don’t know, I’m having second thoughts about it now,” Kyle said. She grinned at him.

“Don’t worry; he’s not my type. Will might want to think twice about introducing him to Torrance, though.”

His brow furrowed in surprise. “I thought Torr was into older guys; Francesco’s the same age as I am.”

“She is. But she also has a soft spot for gingers.”

“Hey, what color are your balls?” Mark suddenly called over, presumably so he and Francesco wouldn’t get the same colors as them. They both held up their golf balls to show him.

“Blue,” Kyle said.

Mark shook his head. “That’s not nice, Nell.”

Kyle laughed. Nellie pursed her lips. “That’s two,” she muttered. She wondered how high the count would get.

They ended up playing both mini golf courses, and while Nellie’s competitiveness normally would have made her a sore loser, she was too entertained by Kyle and Francesco competing with each other to be bothered by how awful she was. Francesco had handily won the first course, much to Kyle’s annoyance, and during the second Mark took to doing commentary during Kyle’s turns, which only frustrated him more. But the second game was much closer than the first, and Kyle ended up winning by the skin of his teeth. He might have won the Master’s with the way he’d celebrated.

Afterward, they all got a bite to eat, and when Mark invited Francesco to come out with them later that night, Francesco asked Nellie if she’d be there. She laughed and said she would, and then Kyle told him Torrance would be there, too—“You’ll like her.”

“Yeah, but she’s with Will,” Mark purposefully noted, which earned him a pointed glare from Kyle. Nellie just laughed again and put her hand on Kyle’s knee under the table. They were intentionally messing with him.

By the time they got back to the house it was after 3 p.m., and Nellie’s jet lag was catching up with her; it was nearing midnight in Tokyo. “I might need a nap if I’m gonna make it through this United Empire dinner tonight,” she said as she and Kyle went into his bedroom; and as soon as she saw his bed, she knew that was exactly what she needed. She toed off her shoes and climbed under the covers, still in all her clothes.

“You’re gonna sleep in your jeans?” Kyle asked in amusement.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Shen disturbance is a disruption of the mind that can have physical and emotional symptoms. Shen is considered the mind of the heart and is said to govern activities in the mental, spiritual, and creative realms. It embodies consciousness, emotions, and thought. 🤍 These are the folks you may see at parties being obnoxious, those that can't seem to ever stop talking or giving unsolicited advice.  Condo Karen's, and in my case, the homeless guy that's at LA Fitness every day.  Yes it sounds like a conundrum, but he has a membership and when in the locker room he is #expertlevel Chatty Cathy doll.  I dread going in the locker room when I hear him droning on and on. 🙄  The other day I fished on it before I walked in there, and he barely said hello to me when his cell phone rang and he took the call and started rambling!  I'm thinking who's calling him?  But then at least he's not chewing my ear off about the mundane.  Thank God for My Liquid Fish, Change made simple! 🎣 I hope today that peace and tranquility find you!  Even if for only a moment, and in silence you feel grounded and at peace.
