koujiro rinko, our main character. she starts off at 18 in season 1. programming nerd. gemma from m3gan. trying to find herself and figure out how adulting works. millennial (affectionate). she’s determined that college is going to be the best years of her life. the entire fandom universally agrees she’s bi and in love with her best friend mayumi who gets introduced in season 4. rinkoyumi vs kayarinko debates plauge twitter for months until her actress posts a tweet on june 1st saying she’s always considered rinko to be bi and wanted to play her with the intention of her crushing on mayumi. every gay person fucking loves her she has so many comfort character edits on tiktok.

kayaba akihiko, Just Some Guy Turned Main Love Interest. starts season 1 at 19. somehow everyone in the university knows who he is. he keeps to himself and has a foreboding mysterious sense about him. fans either headcanon him as bland and emotionless or secretly a massive softie who volunteers at animal shelters. math nerd. he usually ends up solving most of the bullshit the squad gets into. the amount of autism coding in this man.

sugou nobuyuki, fandom-nominted misunderstood soft dork (negative). never have you ever seen a character be misconstrued like this. starts season 1 at 18 but turns 19 like halfway through the season. he’s originally an english major but changes his degree in season 2. he is a dick but he’s good at hiding it therefore people think that he’s gonna be The Bad Boy Love Interest. he briefly is bc he and rinko start dating at the end of season 2 but she cheats on him with kayaba in season 3 (yay). his entire tiktok hashtag is either thirsty edits or people screaming at other fans for liking him. his actor likes tweets hating on him. after the finale he tweets a picture of himself on set flipping off the camera like “so long asshole i will never miss playing you” and then later he posts a picture of the whole cast and crew like “i lied i miss these guys already”

higa takeru, fan favourite smol bean. 18 but acts like a 14 year old boy. he is solely comedic relief for the most part. he’s hardcore crushing on rinko the entire series. he has a million dumb catchphrases. his Big Moment is when rinko breaks down crying in her dorm bc Boy Problems and he comforts her like “you deserve better anyway. do you wanna come sit on the roof and we can finish some beers and you can insult me again like you always do?” and she kinda laughs and follows him onto the roof and they sit there drinking and talking and he’s like “wouldn’t it be cool if we could make an entire world of ai’s?” and its this moment and its like the only time he’s serious

professor shigemura, george feeny 2.0. he sometimes drops major life advice in the middle of a lecture. he gets super invested in all his students and gives them advice and wants them all to change the world. very loving dad. yuuna makes a cameo a few times and fans adore her. any scenes with young yuuna are played by the professor’s actor’s irl daughter and it’s just super wholesome.

yuuki kouichirou, cameo character. he’s mentioned a few times in the first 2 seasons and makes a couple of cameos but fans love him and so he officially joins the cast in season 3, when he’s 19. he’s the sweet doting older brother who doubles as nobuyuki’s childhood friend. he’s never super plot relevant but he’s cute and sweet and people like him. he does a lot of fairy dance foreshadowing and his actor is like tom holland levels of accidental spoilers

SAO Volume 24 chapter 9 spoilers: Kirito met Eolyne

Plus spoilers of volume 18 (Alicization arc’s Finale) and volume 21 chapter 2 (Unital Ring I).

I know for sure there will be anime-only viewers who will try looking for v24 spoilers so you guys need to know some things from previous volumes to understand, and I feel these plot threads are connecting, so I’ll talk about them as well without going into too much details, so you’ll still have something to look towards to in anime and LNs. Well I’m sure people will get mindfucked from just the first spoiler, so buckle up, you’re in for a ride.

Focal characters in spoiler post: Kirito, Eugeo, Eolyne Herlentz (with few mentions of Asuna, Alice S30, and other spoiler characters).

1) By the end of Alicization arc, there are 2 different Kiritos, literally and separately

If you think your head was already difficult to comprehend 2 different Alices (kid Alice and Alice Synthesis 30), then now we have 2 separate Kiritos: real world Kirito (RW Kirito for short) and Star King Kirito of the Underworld (who is still playing somewhere in the virtual world). Well the situations that lead to this is quite different from Alices so maybe it’s much more easier to digest for you... or not.

Volume 18 spoilers below:

Asuna/Suguha/Sinon’s wills appeared in Kirito’s depressed mind and tried to help him awaken, but due to his own trauma from Eugeo’s death and all sufferings from Aincrad, Kirito refused to awaken, blocked everyone out and tried to kill himself (it’s very graphic). But thanks to Eugeo’s memories being left in the Rose Sword, which somehow gained a pseudo consciousness of his own, he helped Kirito awaken and fought alongside Kirito for the last time, though unfortunately this consciousness also burnt out and disappeared.

Before the final fight, Kirito was informed by Higa that the UW’s acceleration rate will be multiplied 1000x time for plot reasons, so if Kirito didn’t get out he’d get stuck in UW for hundreds of years. Of course Kirito being Kirito, he refused to do so, and told Asuna & Alice to log out before him without telling them about the acceleration. During the fight, Eugeo’s "spirit” (aka Eugeo’s memories in the Sword) burnt out and disappeared. After the fight, Kirito cried his heart out for how he would continue to exist in Underworld alone without any of his loved ones for hundred years. But of course Asuna didn’t listen to him and stayed there for him, because she’s Asuna. So Kirito and Asuna stayed in Underworld, 170 years past and in that time they became Underworld’s Star King and Star Queen.

This is when Kirito’s existence got “splitted” into two:

1. Real world Kirito: the Kirito we know, who got back to real world with Asuna after they were done with their duties in UW. Kirito made a request to Kikuoka to erase all his & Asuna’s hundreds of years’ memories in Underworld because their brain in real world can’t sustain such huge amount of data for a long time without dying soon. Of course the time he had with Eugeo can’t be erased in his mind, he went home, broke down on his bed and cried so much for his lost partner that Suguha had to come in to comfort him and Kirito told her all about Eugeo;

2. Star King Kirito: the Kirito with full hundred years of UW memories who's already got erased with Star Queen Asuna. However Higa hid from Kikuoka and Rinko a copy of Star King’s Fluctlight and he “revived” Star King in secret by installing the copy into a Lightcube Cluster (the mad scientist >”< ). At near ending of Volume 18, Star King Kirito talked to Higa:

His last sentence prompted quite a lot of readers of thinking Star King will become an antagonist in the next arc, Unital Ring.

2) Kirito, Asuna & Alice S30′s 1st dive back to Underworld (end of vol 18, the aftermath was recapped in vol 21 chapter 2)

At end of v18, Kirito, Asuna and Alice S30 dived back into Underworld. This world has spanned outside to its own universe, and there we see two female Integrity Pilots, Stica Stricnen and Laurannei Arabel (who are Tiese and Ronie’s descendants respectively) fighting a Space Beast, Abyssal Horror. Kirito, Asuna and Alice S30 jumped in to defeat the Beast, and through witnessing their powers, Stica and Laurannei recognized them as Star King, Star Queen and legendary Knight Alice. However, when the three waved at the Pilot girls, both also saw a male “spirit” standing beside Kirito. They said they both recognized him from the depth of their souls.

The aftermath was talked about in vol 21 chapter 2 (translation by Defan), the translation below is pretty old, and in official Yen Press version “Machinist” was already changed to “Pilot”:

Attack on Titan: The Final Season (Marley Arc) EP#01 (60) - The Other Side of the Sea: During Marley’s expansionist phase, it is engaged in a four-year war against the Mid-East Allied Forces and is attempting to conquer Paradis Island. Eldian soldiers are being used as cannon fodder to attack Fort Slava, including Falco, one of the young Eldian warrior-candidate soldiers, along with his older brother Colt. Colt proposes to General Magath that they use the power of the Warrior Titans, but he refuses due to the Allied Forces having an armored train, along with cannons capable of destroying Titans. Gabi, a promising candidate to be the Armored Titan and Reiner's younger cousin, manages to approach the train while appearing unarmed and disables it with hand grenades. This allows Pieck's Cart Titan, Galliard's Jaw Titan and Reiner's Armored Titan to attack the fort. From an airship above Fort Slava, Eldian humans are transformed into Pure Titans by Zeke and are dropped down rashly, causing destruction and mayhem. Zeke then transforms into the Beast Titan and throws ammunition towards the ships of the Allied Forces, sinking the fleet. The Marleyans capture the fort and win the war with a heavy sacrifice by the Eldians, however the existence of weapons capable of injuring even the Warrior Titans causes Marley to realize that they need the power of the Founding Titan more than ever.

Note: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Funimation added a disclaimer at the beginning of the episode (onwards) stating that the English dub voice actors were able to record their lines from the safety of their homes.

Sword Art Online: Alicization: War of Underworld Part 2 (Alicization Lasting) EP#19 (43) - Awakening: Kirito fights Vassago at a disadvantage, unable to use his right arm to prevent the foreign players from escaping and attacking the others, until Eugeo's spirit appears next to him and together, they use the power of both swords to forcibly log out all red players from UW. Vassago attempts to use their residual life force to empower himself, but Kirito uses it to restore Eugeo's sword instead and revert to his old SAO avatar. Kirito then fights and defeats Vassago, but when the enemy threatens to never quit until he kills him and Asuna, Kirito uses the power of his sword to transform him into a Demon Tree, trapping him inside UW for eternity. This caused Vassago's real life body to age rapidly. After using the power he obtained to restore the survivors, Kirito departs with Asuna to help Alice who is traveling to the World End's Altar with Miller chasing her. Meanwhile at the Ocean Turtle, the American soldiers release the limiters of the UW server, which will accelerate time inside UW millions of times and by an open channel Higa established directly with Kirito's mind, Kikuoka warns him to escape with Asuna through the World End's Altar before it happens, or they will be trapped there for 200 years. Having reached the altar, Alice orders her dragons to flee, but they decide to confront Miller instead, and just as they are about to be killed by him, Kirito and Asuna arrive to protect them.

Fire Force Season 2 Chinese Peninsula Arc EP#7 (31) - Road to the Oasis: The Fire Force team arrives at Avalon on the Asian mainland and Takeru Noto reunites with his mother. She reveals that someone has raided their vegetable garden while the rest of the group prepare to travel to the location of a spatial rift. As they drive inland in a covered half-track, the team, apart from Victor who is wearing a mask, are affected by a gas escaping from cracks in the land's surface which acts like a stimulant, causing them to act erratically and recklessly. They are suddenly attacked by a giant worm-like beast and a talking mole leaps onto their vehicle for safety. Shinra and Orgun divert the worm away and they discover the mole, Scop, was responsible for raiding the Noto garden for its potatoes. Scop offers to guide them to its home, an oasis near the spatial rift which has since been taken over by invaders. Along the way, they meet Scop's friend, Yata, a talking crow, and that night the team witness a multitude of Infernals wandering the countryside. When the team arrive at the oasis, Yata shows Shinra the Tabernacle, an Amaterasu similar to the one in Tokyo Empire. Scop leads them through a forest scattered with debris of past human habitation, and they arrive at one of pillars surrounding the Tabernacle. As they approach, they are attacked by Infernal dogs associated with the invaders, but Tamaki puts them to rest. Later, Shinra hears an internal voice telling him to save the forest.

Assassination Classroom EP#16 - School's Out/1st Term: The students of Class 3-E and the students of Class 3-A fight against each other to slay the test problems before them, with the students of Class 3-E benefiting from Koro-sensei's unique teaching methods. When the results are revealed, Nakamura scores higher than Tomoya in English; Isogai scores higher than Gakushū in social studies; and Manami scores higher than Koyama in science. Koro-sensei shuns Karma for losing to Gakushū due to studying very little and being overconfident. Terasaka, Yoshida, Muramatsu and Kirara Hazama each earn an additional tentacle for scoring top marks in home economics, resulting in a total of seven tentacles overall. Having won the wager for the contest, the students of Class 3-E decide to use their reward, a summer vacation at an island resort in Okinawa, as the venue for their assassination attempt.

the theme of Otoge Hanami is, of course, flowers! each game here is assigned a flower, which is to be used as a guiding prompt for the entries. Otoge Hanami is entirely sign-up based, first-come, first-serve, with art piece and one writing piece per character.

WHAT ARE THE GUIDELINES?

of course, in order to be able to run this smoothly, we have to have some overarching guidelines!

GENERAL

There will be one drawn and one written submission per character.

From the date you claim a character, and are confirmed for that character, you have three weeks to complete your piece.

If extensions are needed, please let us know, as early as possible. Please don’t rush your work!

Contributors are more than welcome to submit for multiple characters (and series), but only one may be reserved at a time.

This includes submission type – one person cannot claim both art and writing for their chosen character at the same time.

All submissions should be specifically created for this project!

All submissions should be set in their canon verse – while the timeline doesn’t have to be specified things like high school aus won’t be accepted! The idea is, also, that these will be pairing/route based with the heroine of the game and the character chosen, making it a pair.

While we’d advise to be careful of spoilers, some are rather unavoidable. This does make this project inherently not spoiler free, so keep this in mind.

And as another general note, no NSFW submissions will be allowed.

Writers and Artists can coordinate on their pieces for a character, if they choose to. 

ART-SPECIFIC

The submission should be digital or scanned art, only. No pictures with a phone or camera for digital, but ones with a clear scanner are fine.

The submitted artwork should be on a 800x1000 canvas, and submitted as a JPG.

The piece should be fully colored.

Images do not require a fully-drawn background, it’s really up to the artist. It can be as simple or as detailed as the artist prefers. However, it’s preferable that the background isn’t just plain white.

Please keep the prompt in mind.

WRITING SPECIFIC

The submission should be no shorter than 500 words, but no longer than 2000 words. We know it’s not easy to write a lot for some people, nor is it easy to trim down for others, dependent on the writing style. That’s why we decided upon such a range.

The piece should be, preferably, in the third-person point-of-view, with a focus on the character chosen.

Try your best when it comes to grammar and spelling. We’re here to beta-read for you, if you need a fresh pair of eyes.

Going back to the note about rushing in the general section, but really rushing it tends to effect characterization – which we’d love to stay true to!

Again, please be mindful of the prompt at hand.

As of right now, we have SIX games to choose from, for a total of 92 entries (46 of each kind). These SIX games are our starting goal, but if there’s enough interest in this project, or a particular game that isn’t on this list is requested enough, we’ll expand it at a later date!

Toonami Weekly Recap 1/2/2021

Sword Art Online: Alicization: War of Underworld Part 2 (Alicization Lasting) EP#18 (42) - Memories: Still in a coma, Kirito is haunted by painful memories of his past while Vassago threatens to kill all Japanese players and UW residents until he awakens. Hearing Yuuki's words of encouragement, Asuna rises up again and pushes the enemy back, almost defeating him. However, Vassago siphons the energy around him to restore himself and takes control of the red players, ordering them to attack. Meanwhile, Higa realizes that Asuna, Sinon and Leafa's Fluctlights combined are not sufficient enough to bring Kirito back, until a fragment of Eugeo's own Fluctlight reaches Kirito, giving him the final push he needs to overcome his guilt and restore his Fluctlight. Back in UW, Kirito finally awakens and uses Eugeo's Perfect Enhanced Armament to freeze the red players, and confronts Vassago to protect his friends.

Fire Force Season 2 Fifth Pillar Arc EP#6 (30) - The Time to Choose: Shinra tries to convince Inca to join him, but she decides instead to stay with the White Clad and Charon leaves Shinra badly beaten. Inca's surviving accomplice, Panda, catches up with them and demands that they let her go. When Charon goes to stop him, Inca sees what is about to happen so she engulfs Panda in flames instead, then departs with the White Clad. After the recent events, the Fire Force is left wondering how to deal with the forces against them. Following discussion with the other companies, Obi announces that Shinra, Arthur, Tamaki and Victor will be part of a joint operation with Takeru Noto and Ogun Montgomery from other companies under the command of Purt Co Pan. Their objective is to investigate the Great Cataclysm of 250 years ago hoping to obtain insights into the Adolla Bursts and the Evangelist's motives in collecting the eight Pillars. The research will be conducted outside Tokyo Empire on the Chinese Peninsula, and the seven member team board a paddle steamer bound for the Chinese mainland.

Assassination Classroom EP#15 - End-of-Term Time: With the final exams approaching, Koro-sensei offers an incentive, in which each student who gets the best overall score in their top subject will get to shoot off one of his tentacles during their next assassination attempt. Meanwhile, Shindō informs the students of Class 3-E about Class 3-A's Big Five (Gakushū Asano, Teppei Araki, Ren Sakakibara, Natsuhiko Koyama and Tomoya Seo), who are all determined to take Class 3-E down. When Nagisa, Manami, Yukiko, Isogai and Rio Nakamura go to study in the main campus library, the Big Five proposes a contest, stating whichever class snags the most top spots in the exams can demand anything from the losing class. While Class 3-A sets their sights on making Class 3-E show complete servitude to them, Koro-sensei proposes his own suggestion of what Class 3-E can ask from their opponents. With both classes determined to win, the stage for the end-of-term final exams is set.
