To an unparalleled lifetime experience !!! (Bloukrans Bungee at 216 meters-South Africa)
After my near **suicide attempt** bungee jump, I read the signboard “FEAR IS TEMPORARY, REGRET IS PERMANENT” and I knew that this will be something I am going to stay proud of my whole life !
The preparations for our (me and Husband) bungee jump from the world’s highest bridge at Bloukrans started months in advance. Poor me was reading every blog, article and post about it. True to my nature, I had even started pestering the FACE ADRENALIN team via Facebook regarding queries on the actual jump etc etc. As the trip was a week away, I was getting nightmares of the jump.
Eventually the jump date was staring into my face and each cell of my body was petrified to death.
The Bloukrans bridge is the world’s highest bridge, located in Tsitsikamma National Park of South Africa, at a height of 216 meters. It is a world famous tourist attraction spot and FACE ADRENALIN has a fatality free record of carrying out Bungee Jumping for the past 25 years.
Mr. Husband is “”thee adrenaline junkie”” and doing this jump was on top of our bucket list since long ago....
OK lets do it now !!!
Step 1- We walk up to the jump point on the bridge through a caged walkway as high as the bridge .....’‘‘which by the way was infinitely more scarier than the jump itself” even if you try to not look down at the mountain valleys and river right below your feet....
I was walking like a robot on the walkway...measuring each step before lifting it...
That was when my inner voice shouted “what the hell did you think before putting your head in this piece of shit” and Mr. Husband was busy clicking my zombie face photographs....
Step 2- Scheduled to jump at 2nd number in a group of 10 people. View from this bridge was captivating and there was a DJ playing loud music to make the jumpers calm and relaxed. The place looked like a happening party place !!
Step 3- My feet were tied together with the harness and all my belts were tightened except my hands which were left free to cry for help
Step 4- 2 men hopped me to the edge of the bridge and instructed me to dive off 216 meters down.
Step 5- The brain starts giving signals “SAVE THYSELF.......Its SUICIDE “
Step 6- The 2 men tell me to not think much and just jump else I would only make it all the more difficult for myself. Timidly I ask him Will I die? and he responds confidently No, You will not die...One last look at Mr. Husband and I just know I’ve to conquer this...
Step 7- -----3----2----1-----and I dive off
The minutes spent free falling in the air till I was brought back up were like frightening years...where I am hanging upside down, swinging back and forth like a pendulum between the mountains and trees and above the gushing river and rocks...In a few seconds the swinging stops and I am hanging all alone upside down in the middle of nowhere. I have never heard my own voice more clearly than I heard it at that moment.
It was strange because I was talking to myself weighing the chances of surviving this jump or making it straight to heaven/hell.....
Although at that time I hated it, thinking of it today, sitting in my comfortable couch, i laugh at how silly I was and also how thankful I am to be alive today...
IT WAS PURE ADRENALINE RUSH I FACED IN THE CRAZIEST FORM.........
Step 8 - And then this guy comes hanging from his chord, to take me back to the same place i jumped from...
I was ecstatic and overwhelmed to the brim. He attached my harness chord to his and started taking me up while bringing my head up and feet down. He was happiness personified.
I changed from a yellow shade of fear to a fairer shade of pink blushing cheeks......
When I reached up and all my fellow group members hooted for me. It was the highest feeling experienced ever coz never in my life I have done anything that could count even closer to THISSS !!
Well after me, Mr. Husband jumped and I, the experienced jumper, felt super proud and relaxed to see him go down and put up a good show!!!
It is the best memory of my life.. and we also got certificates for doing this bungee..:):)
There is an option to purchase the video and photographs of your bungee jump. Do not miss doing that !!!
I recommend any person visiting South Africa to definitely try the world’s highest bungee jump. I can assure this that the entire jump was very smooth and did not cause any kind of injury.People who have already done it, please do share your experiences in the comments....
You may see the video here and as it is pretty evident how this jump has scared the living daylights out of me, I still love it for making me so proud of myself...#patmyback :):)
P.S- while hanging upside down I sensed my feet freeing from the bungee chord. I did panic a little at that time, but was later told that every jumper senses something like this during his/her jump..Hence just enjoy it because you will love remembering every moment of it all your life!!!
