CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT QUESTIONS.

     HIS FAVORITE PLACE IS NOT STATIONARY .   it  isn’t  found  on  solid  ground  ,   chained  down  by  the  pull  of  gravity .   it  is  a  place  of  freedom  ,   ever - changing  &  unpredictable .   it  is  the  sky  ;   wind  shear  at  his  back  ,   sun  beaming  onto  slivers  of  skin  peaking  beneath  his  armor  ,   surrounded  by  fluffy  clouds  that  weave  effortlessly  between  his  fingers .   

         hiccup  has  always  found  a  home  in  a  place  without  roots .                                  (  once  a  runaway  /  always  a  hopeless  wanderer  ) .

                        so  the  answer  isn’t  where  ,   because  it  surrounds  us .   it’s  more  like  why  ------  and  that  answer  is  simple  :

                         hiccup’s  favorite  place  is  his  home   /   a  place  among  the  dragons .   and  wherever  the  dragons  may  dwell  ,   that  is  where  he  wants  to  belong .

the gods were truly testing her, she thought.  

it was cold- she was cold && tired && wet to the touch, her hair heavy with rain water && her eyes laden && strained as she had tried && tried for what felt like hours to see through the dark && the downpour.  there was no hint of thunder- not yet at least.

how long had she been searching for him?  taking stormfly out when she could && scanning the skies && land formations for hiccup?  she’s not entirely sure- mostly because she didn’t want to think about it.  she didn’t want to lose hope just yet- to lose hope that she couldn’t very well find him, she didn’t want to think of the time she had that was quickly ticking away, && the thought that hiccup was simply out there...  drifting further && further into this now very large world.

no, she couldn’t give up- she had to find him- she had to return him home, she had to do SOMETHING because everyone back on berk- snotlout, fishlegs, ruff && tuff- HIS MOTHER- they were all waiting for him to come home- to see their friend- for valka to see her SON-

she had to get him.

stretching out to peer through the shower, she finally hears it- that crack of thunder she had been absolutely dreading- that flash of purple tearing into the grey && black sky.  stormfly below chittered in displeasure- && astrid was faced with only one alternative. 

find shelter- your time was up.

she couldn’t very well travel back to berk with thunder approaching, && her search had to be over if not for her safety, but for her dragon’s.

quickly finding a rocky cove, she had stormfly dipping into it immediately.  it was surely no lap of luxury, but it was better than braving the storm.  

at first she was...  disheartened.  another day && she again had not been able to find him- sure there was SOME evidence astrid would stumble on here && there, but for the most part, she always found herself coming out empty handed.  after all, hiccup had always been great at hiding.

turning a corner, her shoes kicking up pebbles, she sees something that at first..  deceived her eyes.  traces of life that had not been washed away by the rain, a light in the distance that seemed too...  out of place.  

she didn’t want trouble- not now at least.  but what if...  perhaps..

she did not hesitate as she shuffled into a hole in the wall cave- stormfly chirping happily- seemingly pleased to be away from the cold.  astrid however, continued to follow the dim light that only grew brighter && brighter the further she descended until-

     “...hiccup?”

         attentive  as  he  was,  perhaps  ebony  beast  for  once  wished  it  were  otherwise.  though  unchallenged  would  grand  beast’s  love  for  young  boy  remain,  when  past  smiling  lips  escape  words  meant  to  be  found  humorous,  even  lightning’s  unholy  offspring  must  exercise  patience  and  restraint  alike,  lest  either  runs  thin.  unappreciated  in  his  time,  one  might  name  future  chief,  with  jests  of  a  nature  few  could  tolerate  without  disappointed  shake  of  their  head.  thus  contrast  is  drawn  between  two  inseparable  friends,  joy  draped  across  features  of   a human  boy  and  naught  but  exasperation  laid  'pon  that  of  reptilian  company. 

       and  as  interest  in  rider’s  humor  dwindles  for  the  moment,  emerald  gaze  averts,  narrowed  in  clear  display  of  a  judgement  most  silent.  no  sway  of  impatient  tail  /  no  rumble  from  firebreathing  throat,  only  a  rare  stillness  brought  forth  by  exhaustion  of  dragon’s  sufferance.  such  sad  display  of  comedy  would  not  incite  a  reaction.  he  could  not  allow  it,  choosing  instead  for  bestest  friend  to  know  how  much  appreciation  was  given  —  none.

honestly if you want to know what beth is like, one time i didn’t laugh at her joke like at all and she paused the show we were watching because she legit thought my internet went out because i didn’t laugh at her joke

it’s still one of the funniest things that has ever happened to me literally her first thought wasn’t ‘oh it wasn’t that funny’ it was ‘lena’s internet must have gone out thats the only logical explanation as to why she didn’t laugh at my joke’ 

she thought it was more plausible that i wasn’t able to hear her because there was no way i didn’t laugh at her joke FUCK i still laugh about that to this day shoutout to beth @hlccup for reminding me just now

a good question

there isn’t much astrid is afraid of- she tries not to be afraid of much.  she’s a viking, after all- there are MANY things that reside out in their now very large world that could be a potential threat, && as a warrior/protector of berk, she must present herself as an unwavering force for those around her- quell their potential fears with the courage befit of a true viking.

but she is after all, still human, && one of astrid’s strongest goals is to be stronger- not simply for herself however, but for those she loves && cares for, for the people she wants to protect so desperately.  though astrid is not a person who weeps at lose, the people she cares for are held near && dear to her heart, && the thought of losing them to a mistake made on her part, or not making the right decision that could effect the lives of those she loves- it absolutely terrifies her.  because she is a protector of berk, one of the finest dragon riders ( next to hiccup ) that there is.  she has a RESPONSIBILITY now as an adult to be a role model for those younger, && to help guide her people in the right direction as well as protect && preserve this new && invigorating way of life.

she fears the potential mistakes she could make within her position- though she’s not as sheepish as hiccup- although she is forthright in her decisions, the thought that she might be wrong does catch her from time to time, the thought that in just one moment she could hurt the ones she protects does cross her mind now && then.  though she tries not think such a way, such thoughts do occur.  

she is terrified of being a failure as a protector- this role she walked into herself the day she took upon dragon fighting training as a young teen- the day she decided that she was not simply fighting for her family, but also for the protection && salvation of the isle of berk.

&& although she may not be fighting dragons anymore, there are always threats that linger with every turn of the corner.

um hello yes i find it so funny that a lot of people here probably don’t know ab me and beth bc we don’t write 2gether a lot on this blog mostly bc like ? U KNOW WHAT. I DON’T KNOW WHY. CROSS FANDOMS ISN’T AN EXCUSE BETH TF 

anyway !!!!! beth and i have been like makin duo blogs for the past like (i do this once a month but literally beth how long have we been friends) 3 years ??? and i’ve literally travelled to see her and stay w her (AND VICE VERSA) more than i’ve ever travelled for anYThiNG IN mY ENTIRE LIFE 

going 2 stay w/ her was my first time flyin alone !!!! and just !!!!! i hold so many fun and special memories w/ her that ? could literally never be replaced ? she’s literally one of the best people i’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing and i just ? i love beth so infinitely i could DIE with it ? DIE FOR IT ? I’D TAKE A BULLET FOR BETH ?

                GENUINELY ,   HE THOUGHT    that plan would go better .   the wrecked cabin in front of him ,   however ,   spoke otherwise .   shattermaster cowered behind his human’s body ,   knowing the   ‘ wrath of hiccup haddock ’   wasn’t far off .        ❛   in my defense ,   the cabin would have gone down anyway .   not structurally stable .   ❜
