 ‘Ship Bias’ {curious about your top five!}
send 'ship bias' and i will tell you up to 5 of my preferred ships for a muse !!
elain archeron. - azriel. i know that it's a point of contention for the fandom, but i think az and elain choosing each other despite all odds is something i really love. they're passionate and they developed a tentative friendship even before she was turned fae, and i loved watching her fall in love with him. - lucien vanserra. he's her mate, he's trying to be good to her. they've got a long way to go to reach communication that works for them, but they can work. - eris vanserra. i'm not remotely sorry about this, and i blame @alicxnte almost entirely for this being one of my ships. i love them together, i love their passions. - dorian havilliard. think of how cute this is?? crackship gone wild, and i fucking love elain as queen of adarlan. - ruhn danaan. another crackship where she gets to explore that wildness and freedom that ruhn would offer her. daenerys targaryen. - robb stark. i just... always loved the king in the north with the queen in the east. it's one of those things that has just always resonated with me, and i wish they'd have gotten to meet and learn of one another. - jon snow. i prefer him to be a son of stark and not a targaryen, as i still believe aegon is young griff. so in those instances, i believe they would be a good match. - daario naharis. precious daario who loves her so dearly, who truly would keep picking flowers for her and loving her no matter what. - sansa stark. i love me some queen loving and they would have been an unstoppable duo. - margaery tyrell. like the above, i think dany and marg would have literally taken westeros completely by storm. it's beautiful. rey kenobi. - ben solo. i'm not ashamed of being a filthy reylo, and i have and always will have it as my primary ship for rey. i am especially fond of tlj reylo more than tfa/tros, but that's pretty typical. - finn. they're just *so cute together* and i love them to pieces. i am pretty convinced that finn leans gay but i think he and rey are just... so soft. - poe dameron. in the right circumstances, poe and rey are super cute. - jannah calrissian. i looooove jannah and rey is very gay for her. very gay. - rose tico. cute little engineer ladies being cute and engineery. bryce quinlan. - connor holstrom. i loved connor from the moment i met him and bryceconnor is one of the softest most precious things i ever experienced and i wanted more of them. SO MUCH MORE. - danika fendyr. they're the image of "friends to lovers" pipeline and it deserves more recognition for it. - aidas. the pretty pretty prince of hel has always been fascinated by bryce and she has been fascinated right back. - hunt athalar. mostly from hosab, bc in hoeab i'm still cross at him. she needs time. - tharion ketos. look at them!! look at them!! merboy was so cute and he sent her an otter! padmé amidala-naberrie. - sabé/tsabin. their closeness and care for one another is transcendent and i love them so deeply. i am especially fond of aus where padmé lives. but they have been through so much. - obi-wan kenobi. having them raise luke and leia together is one of the softest verses i have and i really love them. plus... obi was so pretty, how could she not? - dormé. they are so close to one another in their young adult years. she's so loyal.

What do you make of the CC2 title?
Oh boy, you don’t know what bag of chaos you are unpacking.
FIRST- I half expected the title as we knew they were going to be following the theme of the first book, but this confirms what house is going to be the central focus. It’s Bryce and Hunts house. So I feel like that means the autumn king is also going to be a huge component in this book. He’s an interesting player in the story, I feel like he could go good or bad. Though he leans towards evil. I am definitely looking forward to more Rhun content, as well! (His tattoos are spicy)
Secondlyyyyyy- ITS BLUE. If you haven’t noticed the back drop is BLUE. I’m am looking forward to putting a blue book next to the pretty red one on my shelf. I love the design of the first CC book so I am pumped to see what this one is.
Third and most importantly- Otters. They have always been my favorite animal. I almost dropped dead when they made an appearance in HoEaB and Sarah confirmed in the tags there will be 500% more otters. To say I’m elated is an understatement 😂

Crescent City Worldbuilding Questions
The Four Houses:
The four houses of Midgard are the House of Sky and Breath, the House of Many Waters, the House of Earth and Blood, and the House of Flame and Shadow. The members of these houses are based on species, and each has a corresponding god (or gods).
I think this element of the series should’ve been expanded on or scrapped entirely. As it stands now, the houses have no major effect on the world or the characters besides being a fun sorting gimmick. Furthermore, characters like Jesiba Roga can switch alignments with no serious consequences.
The house system also raises many questions. Are the gods of Crescent City real or did the Asteri fabricate them? If they are real, why are they not doing anything about the Asteri? Have they been captured or killed? Do they just not care? If it's a religious thing, why were the houses decreed by the Imperial Senate?
In Chapter 57, we learn that HOEAB priestesses offered Ember and Randall asylum and protection when Bryce was a baby. Why doesn’t the HOEAB intervene more to improve the treatment of humans? If the Asteri want to wipe out the humans, why would they assign them a house? They created the four houses, and it’s not like they haven’t removed a race from their house before (ex. sprites).
What does it mean to be loyal to your house? Is it the same as being loyal to your ruler (ex. the Ocean Queen) or your god? Is it being loyal to your fantasy race and the other creatures grouped with it?
Humans share the blessing of Cthona with shifters, fauns, witches, and otters in the HOEAB. Is there less animosity between these groups because they share a house/goddess? Do the other Vanir look down on the ones in HOEAB for being grouped with the humans? What does it mean to have a god’s blessing or be their vessel? Are there any special perks or powers? Do creatures aligned with a certain god have a better chance of speaking with them or getting their prayers answered?
Witches vs. Sorcerers and Other Confusion:
It’s stated that Jesiba Roga was a witch and a member of HOEAB before she became a sorceress. What’s the difference between a witch and a sorceress? Is a sorceress just a witch that has defected? Do witches and sorceresses have a difference in strength or magical abilities?
Speaking of magical abilities, what are the limits of magic in Crescent City? Does it have limits? How about risks?
Where do witches originate from? Why are they in HOEAB? Did they cross with the Asteri and the rest of the Vanir? Are they a mix of humans and Vanir? Are witches the same as they were in Throne of Glass lore?
This is a bit of a nitpick, but Hypaxia is described as being half-necromancer on her father’s side. In this world, are necromancers their own distinct race, like witches, or is the ability to raise the dead just genetic?
Vanir Appearances:
This is a point that I’ve seen brought up by others, but I’d like to take a stab at it myself.
Why do most of the Vanir—even the Asteri—take on human appearances? Was it a disguise to ingratiate themselves with the humans before colonizing Midgard and it just stuck? Did Vanir try to look like humans because they thought it was cool, making it a fashion trend? Or, do Vanir have human-like characteristics because they share a similar origin?
Why does Rigelus, an Asteri, use the body of a lanky Fae teen? Why can’t they use their true forms? Would it be too powerful, thus killing whoever sees it? Are they arrogant, believing their underlings don’t deserve to see it? Have the gods placed restrictions on Asteri appearing on Midgard in an attempt to mitigate their damage? Also, do Asteri hosts need to meet certain criteria, or can anyone do it? If it could be anyone, why choose a body that strains to contain your power?

Crescent City is Ragnarok
1. The Vanir: In Norse mythology, the vanir are a set of gods and goddesses associated with health, fertility, wisdom, and the ability to see the future. A lot of major characters and subplot lines have to do with similar themes as health (Hypoxia) and seeing into the future (The Oracle). Also the name is literally the same for the 'magical' beings of HoEaB. -It is also to note that Freyja is one of the main goddesses of the Vanir. Besides the obvious name association with the SJM's other books, Freyja represents a lot of charcteristic's that Bryce has, or is described by other charcater's as having; love, beauty, sex, war, and Sidr (a type of magic practiced by the ancient nords mainly practiced by women). Sidr had a lot to do with soothsaying. Practicioners were also known to wear special amulets. Siodr spells were carried out by the Mage calling out to a specific diety (In Bryce's case just making a huge call out for help), and the spirit of a more powerful mage assisitng in the ritual. Freyja's type of Seidr involved sacrifice (*cough danika's immortal soul cough*). 2. Realms: Norse mythology mentions realms a lot. For all intents and purposes, we'll be focusing on Midgaurd (the Mortal realm), Helheim /Hel/ (the realm of demons/devils/Underworld), and Alfheim (the realm of elves //fae// elf is a blanket term for demigod like beings or beings with magic). -Alfheim specifically is watched over by the god Feyr (Freyja's brother) and Alfheim is the original home of the Vanir. Elves were notoriously known to go to midgaurd and get jiggy with humans, and or causing them a ton of problems. Half-elves were not uncommon, but for the most part the elves and humans didnt get along super great. Alfheim is also refered to home of the light elves (starborn) and sits on a rift next to midgaurd. -I'm going to combine my explanation for Hel and Midgaurd, as I think they're more obvious and easily digested. Aside from the names and over all population's/enviroment being the same or very similar as in the book(s) Hel and Midgaurd there are some thing's id like to take note on. Midgaurd is surrounded by a huge body of water with a giant serpent (sadly not hunky mermen and cute otter's) that just kinda vibes in the water mysteriously. This is fairly similar to Crescent City itself. The main difference's with norse hel and the book's hel is that in Norse Mythology the realm is ruled by a baddie with the name Hel instead of a bunch of cat guys. Hel (goddess) has been known to show mercy and be helpful to those who she thinks deserves it, very similar to Aidas. 3. Ragnarok: Ragnarok is described as the fall of the gods, the end of mankind, doomsday, etc, etc. This is how part of it is desrcibed: The dome of the sky will be split, and from the crack shall emerge the fire-giants from Muspelheim. Their leader shall be Surt, with a flaming sword brighter than the sun in his hand. As they march across Bifrost, the rainbow bridge to Asgard, the home of the gods, the bridge will break and fall behind them. An ominous horn blast will ring out; this will be Heimdall, the divine sentry, blowing the Gjallarhorn to announce the arrival of the moment the gods have feared. Odin will anxiously consult the head of Mimir, the wisest of all beings, for counsel. sounds very similar to the demons of Hel coming through the gate/rifts, a sword of light, and a magical horn. Ragnarok is meant to be the destruction of the gods, and here I would like to mention that the god's except for the vanir, are refered to as Æsir which when prounoced is very similar to asteri. While I still think the romance part of the book is based off of Persephone and Hades (Bryce and Adias or Hunt),I counldnt help but think of all the correlations between Norse mythos and the book. I honestly see Bryce teaming up with Hel and taking down the Asteri also a giant bad ass wolf named Fenrir comes back and helps kill the gods and id love to see Danika fuck some shit up/.

HOEAB spoilers below
My main takeaways after finishing House of Earth and Blood, in no particular order:
this book needed to be about 400 pages shorter
world building...phew...give me a freaking minute to catch up
I would die for Ruhn Danaan, my stoner bi punk fae son
Juniper and Fury 🥺
Danika is a fascinating character and I’m pissed we don’t get her more
also Hunt is not white, bye
OTTER COURIER IN A VEST
can someone give me a geography lesson on this planet because idgi
so we gonna ignore the fact that the Autumn King clearly was over the Autumn Court politics so he came over from Prythian through a gate to CC and made his own new court, or?
also Ruhn is a descendant of Rhysand and Feyre, don’t @ me
Aidas though...👀 what’s goin’ on there...
ah, another one-dimensional female villain who is at odds with the main love interest...sigh
Hunt Athalar aka “Umbra Mortis” Is An Ass Man
the entire Drop scene...fuck, that got me
Bryce helping Hunt out of the shower...help me, I’m soft
overall, I dig the unique setting and motley crew of fantasy creatures
I’m definitely going to need to reread and theorize on how it all connects
yeah
what were your thoughts? let me know!
