saw au where adam isn’t put in the bathroom game and isn’t a full-on professional stalker. instead, he’s working for a true crime magazine and often sneaks into crime scenes to get exclusive pictures. this leads him to have tense, unpleasant encounters with hoffman (mark’s still an apprentice in this au) multiple times.

hoffman eventually decides to stalk adam as an attempt to find dirt on him and give himself a proper reason to put him in a game. he succeeds. after days of stalking adam, hoffman finds out he’s been doing side gigs. by that, i mean he’s agreed to take bribes from local politicians and take compromising pictures of their opponents.

hoffman then kidnaps adam and puts him in a trap. to his surprise, adam survives but seriously injures himself, resulting in hoffman having to nurse him back to health in secret.

and once adam’s fully recovered, hoffman blackmails him into taking pictures of his next targets for him.

bonus points if lawrence gets involved later on.
