Hyejin helping (a drunk?) Dusik in his home(?) (this is from the new 15 second promo)
8 notes · View notes
I like the fact that when Hye Jin hugged him, Du Shik didn't spend 30 minutes being shocked by her hug. Sure, he is a bit surprised but he quickly recovers and hugs her back as if it was the most natural thing in the world to do.
They're not even dating guys.
In most k-dramas, when one of the main lead hug the other, the other lead usually either stay stunned for an insanely long amount of time before reciprocating very hesitantly or they don't respond at all.
I've even seen cases where the leads already were in a relationship and the one getting hugged didn't even respond??
Of course I understand if it's part of their character to be like that but, most of the time, that is not the case. I don't know about you guys but if someone I care about hugs me, I hug them back.
So, to see Hong Du Shik returns her embrace so easily, as if he had done so a million times, that was truly refreshing.
I feel like the acting in this drama is much more realistic than others, they don't tend to exaggerate their reactions and instead we get to see the characters's micro-expressions. This, in my opinion, makes the show more enjoyable to watch and you can appreciate the characters's reactions more, especially the big ones because it helps the viewer realize that what happened has truly impacted them.

CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS ❗❗ HOMECHA EP 14
i just watched the 14th episode of hometown cha-cha-cha and im overwhelmed at the emotional ride it took me through. yeah, the episode reveals dusik's trauma and from the looks of it, it's pretty deep. imagine saying to someone who is already blaming themselves that they deserved to die instead. it's horrible. and dusik has been mature since he was a child and he has learnt to keep his feelings bottled. just imagine what he must be going through.
and people, after watching the episode, decide that homecha isn't a healing drama. like wtf. for me, this is exactly why it's a healing drama. it shows the wounds of the town and its people healing in one way or the other. it shows that it takes time to heal and for dusik, such a trauma is not easy to get through. im glad they dragged it out till the end, brought it to a point where dusik is pushed to open up because opening up about a trauma that he's clearly hurting from can be like tearing open an already open wound. it takes a lot of strength and willpower to open up. im glad hyejin has also offered to stand by him until he gathers the courage to do so.
and the line 'what may be easy for someone can be difficult for other' is what we all need to hear. just because hyejin has been transparent doesn't mean dusik has to find it easy to be transparent as well. im so so glad hyejin handled it very well.
there were so many things in the episode that made my heart ache: hwageong and yeongguk finally talking it out (that woman's acting skills are extraordinary), when dusik asks gamri if he deserves to be happy, when cho hui's mother cruelly called being in love with the same sex as an illness, when dusik's trauma was revealed, especially the scene with the older brother on his grandfather's death anniversary (his acting omg)
there were so many things that made me smile through my tears as well: euncheol and miseon skipping a few bases hehe, ji PD and dusik's healthy bromance, the town gathering together for the after party, gamri and JUNE caring for each other. So so cute.
feeling dusik's trauma as a viewer was painful and the wait for another week to see the pieces come together is frustrating. but i think ep14 was a painfully beautiful episode with one of the best acting of the cast. the characters are vulnerable yet strong at the same time and props to the show for showing it right. they couldn't have done it any better.
i never thought i'd write so much about a kdrama episode but i had to. so if anyone's trying to say homecha is not a healing drama imma come at you.

Drabbles for HCCC
Because waiting is torture and I don't want this to be one of those shows with a major turnoff in the pivotal moment.
---
Dr. Yoon Hye-jin is not stupid.
She knows, as one lonely soul to another, that whatever secret is in Du Sik’s past haunts him. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be allowing it to swallow their fledgling relationship. And she’d suspected as much, the city-dweller in her head said, because nobody is that compassionate without trauma. He’d been running ever since he left Seoul, doing his level best to keep the guilt at bay by taking care of everyone around him. It’s not that she doubts his sincerity, to the neighborhood or to her. Rather, this is what she wants, for her, for them. The intimacy that comes from exchanging vulnerabilities, the trust that can build something that lasts.
It’s not that she cares so much about the what as she is hurt by the obvious lack of trust. And so she leaves, even as she wants to hold him, because they deserve better if they’re ever going to be more. And, she reminds herself firmly, trying to hold it together long enough to get away from prying eyes, she can’t actually be there for him if he won’t say what’s wrong.
She remembers halfway home that she was nowhere to go, nowhere to be alone, and veers off to the one safe haven she has left in Gongjin. She lets herself into the clinic, trying not to think about him in here or her plants or that time he came running on his day off. How he pulls her in despite herself but then holds her at arms’ length. When she wakes, curled against the door and stiff from a night on the floor, she’ll tell herself it wasn’t entirely because of Du Sik. She was just exhausted. Gongjin is getting to her. She needs a trip to Seoul, to remind herself who she is.
His desire to be selfish, to try one more time, was a burning, visceral pain. He could feel his heart straining towards Hye-jin, because he wanted to tell her, wanted the chance to have this happiness together. But the echoing voice of memory in his head grew louder and louder, screaming until he couldn’t hear, couldn’t think, afraid to move because the tension threatened to consume him.
You don’t deserve this. You don’t deserve happiness. You are nothing.
She’ll leave when she knows.
You should have been there! Don’t ever let me see you again.
He hears two doors shut, one in his memory and one down the hall. Suddenly, he is alone. Again. Like a sail without wind, he collapses, tears falling onto the photo of his almost in-laws.
If only you’d been there for her. If you’d gotten there sooner.
He couldn’t have both; couldn’t be there and be him because one day it would happen again and he would miss his chance. He would always be there for everyone except the ones he cared about the most.

Hye Jin spit nothing but facts. So glad she said this in addition to saying how Du Shik’s grandfather would be sad if he knew DS was thinking like that. Du Shik needed to hear this bad
