eyy,, i made a pokétrainer oc !!!! been trying to design them for nearly a month, i think- only managed to finalize her design with some help from some friends,,, sksmsknsjs. lineart isn't mine, btw!! instead made by my friend sap @pinesented my good friend sap. colors are by me, tho! (and no i definitely didn't just steal the color palette from the gender-fluid flag, bc i am. so good at colors).

anyway this is malachai last-name-pending and he specializes in dark/ghost types <3. she looks scary but really they're pretty chill and just a bit introverted. prolly messes with tarot cards, too,,,

How do you draw your chibis? No need for an elaborate explanation I'm just. a beginner artist trying to feel around some things

o!! i will be honest, my process isnt exactly very . helpful. its pretty much just circle -> basic head shape -> Draw The Rest Of The Owl(tm) due to my tried and true method of Fuck It We Ball.

but um! some scattered tips are smthn i Can give! though its kinda just what everyone else says. my best one is just kinda... imitate art you like. whether its proper Style Imitations or just Kinda Whatever is up to you, but th point is to practice something and then Do What Feels Fun. and then you can just drop whatever parts Arent fun. and then you keep doing that over and over until it frankensteins itself into something new :] mayb even sprinkle in smthn you just wanna try for funsies. who knows. art styles r like corkboards to me, yknow?

also have fun simplifying shapes. i like... Never enjoy drawing limbs unless theyre vaguely shaped like mlp pony hooves. its always just that but to the left a little. find shortcuts! do something silly! at the end of it all it really is just. Fuck Around Find Out Have Fun. sometimes it doesnt work. turn it into something else. or do it again if you want. what ever ! no rules. <33

theres always the Use Refs Do Studies and like yeah, definitely do that when you wanna push things, but also just like... have fun. do something weird. maybe youll like it. maybe you wont. but therell always be some sort of art :] and thats always good!

also dont delete your old art, youre gonna want to so bad but thats the devil talking ok even if you dont like it even if you can do better, keep it!!!! tuck it away in a file under your bed if you must, but theres nothing quite as nice as looking back and seeing how far youve come, or how the energy changes, or what you focus on-- and that info can be used for fun little stuff too!

Beautiful thing happened today: the guy doing headshots had these brilliant nautical tattoos and I, a known ship nerd, pointed them out and said I thought they were brilliant. And he launched into how for 12 years he worked on a tall ship at one point as the captain. He got all excited telling me about it and asked if I was working on any ships. I said no, but I’d love to, have wanted to ever since I was a kid; he asks if I know so-and-so, to call him and even just being a passenger will get you credit with skippers. And at this point I’m grinning and laughing and I really want to talk more about sailing and historical stuff with this guy. He goes “Right tilt your head this way, you wanna look warm and approachable yet tough for any skippers!” Probably the best headshots I’ll ever get, those smiles were sincere. Then he recommended me his favourite book - its 700 pages and it’s 300 years of historical fiction called “We, The Drowned” which I’m checking out asap because it sounds brilliant

1:30am poorly worded thoughts with Roswell. Tbh I'm not a fan of when people pretty much arbitrarily assign Anton the "dumb as bricks" trait in their interpretations of him. He's goofy, chaotic, obnoxious, and impulsive, so sure maybe you could playfully call him a little stupid bc of the way all that works out for him, but definitely not in the way I've seen some people doing it. Taking a character whose main/defining character traits can be summed up as "irritable hot-headed drunkard who works a hard labor trade job" and also going "he's probably fucking dumb lol" when there's really nothing to suggest that sits ummmm not very well with me. Like ok why do you think this. Do tell. Why is he not just some guy to you.
