This is so depressing.
#romance novels#the cartoon covers have totally taken over#more expensive and worse#I’m not saying they’re all bad but#(a) most of them are contemporary romance which I don’t like nearly as much#and (b) it’s hard to tell the New Rom Com Romance from the kind I like#idk whenever I read the new rom com type#I’m just like#this worked better in fanfic#or this worked better in a romantic comedy movie that put more emphasis on the comedy#or this worked better when it was the 2000s and it was called chick lit#chick lit is so interesting to me as a basically dead genre#because I read it all the time in middle/high school#and there was a lot of sex and shopping#but there were also a lot of novels about ordinary women dealing with regular life stuff#like light-hearted in tone but they took regular adult life seriously#and it’s kind of bizarre that they were so dismissed#hot take but Tom Perrotta and Nick Hornby are both chick lit writers
